Yeah, the percentage chance is weird. I went a long period without getting any and then went through periods of getting one almost every time. I do Campfire Tales for ant meat, antiseptic, and tick blood anyway though so it wasn't that bad, just had me worried the info was out of date until I got one.
They are pretty easy to do, I just saved up the bug parts in my stash after events or hordes then there’s always a rad roach in the closet so like 5-10 to do both. Or you can always trade for them.
I would have paid also but at some point if you don’t have FO1st the over encumbrance and constant emptying of inventory gets annoying. Couldn’t take it anymore.

Backpack is easy, you don't have to do any possum/tadpole for it, do stings and things, operation tidy and campfire tales, they have a 25% chance to give you a badge.
Athlete, Archer, and pick the least annoying third challenge. I think I did hunter as the third ? Took a few hours straight, but wasn't that bad. Getting the possum badges is going to be worse, fuck those challenges which limits me to 3 dailys that might give a possum badges once in awhile.
I almost got all the stamp plans in less than 90 days. Once I get the last few, seeing sunlight for the first time in several hundred levels will be a brand new game.

Atlantic City: The Most sensational Game - the fastest expedition there is and dead east to boot. Killing everything takes about 10min, speedrunning past all enemies (also easy to do) and it can be done in 5min, if you don't hit escort mission.
Not anymore, I did it when there was no Atlantic City, it's much quicker and more fun now, The Pitt is long, buggy and dull as hell. Cold Shoulder is my main, it rocks!. Been using it for 250 levels.
Liked it too, but in a weird and sick kind of way. Take a picture of x… look up where x spawns, …. Take a picture of y… look up where y spawns. Repeat ad nauseam.
But nothing beats staying in The Mall in PA with vamp weapon and letting robots kill themselves on Tesla Coils. 2h per challenge, from what I remember. Still better than trying to do it "the proper way"
I chose archer, athletic, and the Entymology taking pictures of bugs one. Less than an hour. I think you guys are choosing the wrong badge challenges.
Get the crossbow at the mountain Pitstop. Craft bolts, kill enemies, repair when the crossbow is just slightly damaged.
Athletic - the courses to run are easy enough.
Taking pictures of Bugs - easy if you do the Camp Adams event. Otherwise, just fast travel to the locations of known bugs and snap away.
For whatever reason the fireflies stopped spawning for me and path of enlightenment wasn't going on during the equinox. It was terrible. My camp is even a spawn spot for them so I server hopped repeatedly.

You don’t even need to go to the pitstop - there’s a free crossbow at the pioneer scout camp where you obtain this quest (right where the shooting range challenge for it is).
It’s kinda funny because when I needed to revive some one for that quest, after an event finished (I think scorched earth) I just turned my mic on and said. “Hello, can I revive someone? I’m trying to become a tadpole” and no lie 2 people turned their mics and helped me out. Maybe try that next time? lol
Seriously, nobody should be afraid to ask, I think most people would be cool with it for nothing more than helping avoid the grind of those challenges. A newbie wandered into my camp a couple days ago while I was building and asked so I just yeeted myself off the cliffside we were on, took all of 90 seconds and homie was back on his way to conquer the wasteland.
I was able to complete it in about 6 hours, while occasionally taking a smoke break. The hardest part was messaging random players in my lobby, but once someone took me up on my offer without asking for anything in return it was smooth sailing. You can find 3 crossbows that spawn in specific spots and are already damaged. If another player has taken it you just have to server hop.
I actually just go that one on my lunch break. Also still need wolf picture which I thought I got in the taxidermy basement but I dont think it counted.
Join the event “Encryptid” anytime you see it. There’s a very small pond in the center and people die all the time in that area. I die on purpose in there to hopefully help someone else cross it off their list. Or just have a friend help you out, that’s the easiest way to do it
Yeah, I've levelled up a few characters now, and I've only gotten to Possum quests once. Those quests are so much more demanding than anything else that it's just not worth it.
There are items you can unlock for badges, mostly just camp stuff, but there are mods for the backpack which are very useful. Or you can get the mods by spending Gold at certain vendors.
For future "Order of the Tadpole" adventurers, you don't have to find broken crossbows. There is a guaranteed crossbow plan spawn on the outside table at the Pioneer Camp archery range (if it's not there that just means someone else picked it up on your server and you can just server hop until you find one). Once you have that you can make your own crossbow, use it until it's just a tad broken, and then repair it. Don't wait until it breaks all the way; you can repair a weapon any time as long as its durability bar is not 100% full. And, you do not have to repair 3 different crossbows, you can repair the same one 3 times and it will count. This will save you a lot of time.
Yeah, I can’t imagine a new player doing that. I am level 600 and still ran away to make the timer rather than fight that nasty shit. The noise actually scared me.
Just an fyi for people needing animal pics. In the woods behind the Morgantown station is a passive animal spawn spot. So frogs, beavers, fireflies, rad does and calves, rabbits, chickens all spawn there.
CAMPs attract a scorched from the railyard. Packs of super mutants, mole rats, scorched and mutts. But usually just that one guy. Sofia is pretty handy at taking them out.
Tadpole was a waste of a day, but possum is fucking worse for me. I’ve gotten 2 badges over the span of 4 days. The challenges are abysmal, and the other sources are rng hell.
7/10, 120 carry weight would recommend

I struggled through only 3 tadpoles, then reading possums make me drop this quickly. I'll just slowly grind possum badges through the repeatable dailies thank you. It's evil for bethesda to gate the high capacity backpack mod through this hell
I went through possum's archer, athlethic, and swimming. Took me about 3 hours of dread, except Athlethic is fun! The courses is nicely built and I loved the ski mountain one
My proudest moment in the game was getting my standard sized backpack a couple of weeks ago because I knew it would be a long time before I think about doing more Tadpole badges.
Yea, am traumatized from it. Keep thinking about it even though it’s over. It sucked. Now buy the backpack mod to add to your large backpack. I got 120 carrying cap.
The thing that kills me the most is it doesn’t retroactively count the things you’ve already done. “Mod a ProSnap Camera” with a 105mm ProSnap already in inventory…
Yeah. Some stuff it does like when I looked in the world challenges and tadpole challenges a lot of them had been checked off through normal playing over hundreds of levels.
Yea but not enough. I finished up Athlete, Hunter, and I think Mammalogist, then skipped the rest of Tadpole to go to Possum, and I swear there should be more completed than there is, but such a pain to track the challenges.
When doing the race on the bridge, I failed three times - on the third failure the counselor sounds crazed and just gives it to me. I laughed super hard, then went on to the next horrendous challenge.

Stimpaks get heavy once you get a few hundred and chems are very much good. Thru hiker is for food. It really depends on your build though in where you need to have the weight reduction perk cards. Food kind of expires so I use my freezer in camp and don't really need the weight reduction on my person. In general the 90%weight reduction will be better than a little bit of extra carry weight. I use all of my strength points for other cards so I run the backpack instead of traveling pharmacy.
So if you use the chemists backpack it frees up that space in your perk cards to use something else or reallocate the points to a different special stat. 300 stims, but then you have your other chems that take up alot of weight as well and seriously boost your damage and damage resistances ap and special stats.
Conversely, they were some of the most fun I've ever had in a Fallout game. None of them are impossible, they encourage teamwork, and they're easy to work on a little bit at a time then go do something else. Taking pictures of the water slides was hilarious, me and a few others were posing for the pictures and all did them at the same time.
I loved this quest so much I've done it on all 3 of my characters! But if you're doing it now, you'll never understand how painful it was trying to find Deathclaw hides back in the day.....or the stimpak diffuser plan....the spawn rate for these was ridiculous compared to now.
The only big issue I had with it is the amount of 'show next question' screens in the tests on the terminals - made taking all those tests take super long to finish.
It's actually kind of refreshing to have so many different challenges to complete in my opinion. Sure it's not easy, but that's the fun of it.
Fun is subjective. I wasn’t so much entertained by the quests themselves but by the variety of enemies that appeared along the way. It’s like the game knows what you’re doing and tries to slow you down.
This is very true, fun is definitely subjective. And some of those tasks were definitely not easy. I'm currently going through them again on an alt character. I tend to try and pick off one or two tasks at a time when things seem slow on the server I'm on.
But the one you are talking about can only be added to the small backpack to get 90 cap. If you do the quests and get the large one you can get 90 and then add the mod you bought for a total of 120.
OTOH, if you are making a mule character, then a small backpack + a HC backpack mod from a main is far easier than grinding a mule to get the standard backpack. +90 carry weight instantly > +120 carry weight plus several hours doing the tadpole quests.
Try doing the possum badges. Took me a week of grinding to get enough badges for the high capacity backpack mod. You also have a 25% chance to receive a possum badge from the daily tadpole quests.
I had bought the mod before and had it on the small capacity bp… luckily can put it on the large tadpole one and now 120 capacity. I’m good. That stuff drained me.
I have been thinking about in between events, doing these quests again and trying for everything in the vendor. I'm running around playing camp counselor now 😂
They are definitely something that take time. I finally got to the possum and I had to repair a crossbow which for some reason was difficult lol the one that is kinda hard to achieve is healing someone while in water. They always move haha. Also the “wear a fedora while looking for bones “” made me laugh.
Can't be bothered to scroll through all the comments, but if no one's said it yet: Heart of the Swamp is a great way to get the "revive in water" done, esp. if the final boss is the Grafton monster.
I did mine, after years, the last one task long ago, at cranberry glade during Beasts of Burden. Also I read about people saving a player at encryptid, there’s a puddle there.
I done the archer challenge by going to Raleigh Clay's Bunker and killing the 7 radroaches there, server hoping to get them to respawn didn't take very long.
The crossbow was easy for me, at least. Take off any weapon degradation perks, then kill enemies, repair bow every 15 kills. But the swimming is hard if you don't have a trusted friend.
I ended up doing the athletic badge, entomology badge, and herpetology badge.
The worst part was finding an Ant to photograph as it seems they have no certain, dedicated spawn but can spawn at many locations.
Took me all of two hours, I believe.
The entomology badge plays into the quest as well when you do the insect repellent bit at the dolly area, and you can immediately get most of the bugs photographed.
The honey beast can be photographed while doing that part of the quest, along with bees, near the botfly search area in northern Mire. The rest, besides ants, are part of the quest. So photograph them before killing them.
Haha. Not really. I’m a completionist and needed to get them done. You can spend the badges at the vending machine. Also gives me something to do other than dailies, events and such.
I finally finished my three badges this past weekend! It only took me roughly 270 hours to get around to it. Lol. Crossbows were a PITA because I kept having to server hop to find spawns. I did codebreaker, Archer, and Athlete.
I also launched my first solo nuke this past weekend also. Although I've heard there are shortcuts in that process. I wanted to do it legitimately at least once.
I just repaired my crafted one 3 times. It’s a waste but you can just use it slightly and repair it. Like literally 8 or 10 shots and then repair. Getting the 50 kills was so tedious.
Then I did mamoligist where you just take pictures or animals and milk a cow 10 times.
Then the athletes is by far the easiest I used chems to reach the level required which cleared them then did the 3 obstacle courses.
2 ways: crafting them -> you need to perfectly finish Project Paradise and pray. Or that mutated packages. Second one: buying at a player vendor. There’s no diffusers on the map.
I'm hesitant in starting this challenge, not sure what's better though. Just flat out paying for the monthly sub and using the survival tent whenever I need to stash junk or going through hell with these series of challenges for the backpack stuff.
It's really not that serious, I run around with a out 350 carry daily, with a survival tent that's not an issue. And by the way you get an extra 10 carry weight, a max of 60 from that quest. So your standard backpack is 40, plus the 10 mod you get from regular story line, so that's 50, you break your neck for 10 more, it's not worth the B's for that 10. The Order of Tadpole quest line will reward you with a regular backpack which can be crafted at your level + 10 to a max of level 50. So the most it can hold is 60. Waste of time.
Not exactly accurate. Small bp is 60 and you can buy a mod for another 30, so 90 tops. With the tadpole you can add that bought mod to the large backpack which is 90 plus another 30 for the mod so 120.
Just did this quest yesterday. I did Athletics, Swimming, and Mammalogy. Athletics is a joke, the 3 obstacle courses are so simple. Barely had to even run for them. Mammalogy is just taking pics of animals, not hard at all. Swimming is a swim test that you can run through most of, and you have to revive someone in water. You have to revive someone anyway and doing it once in water takes care of both.
I need to *craft* antibiotics myself and I can't find diffusers anywhere and apparently the only way to earn it is to do the Project Paradise event which no one attends...
You can buy from other players an upgrade that adds 30 to the small bp plan but u have to do the tadpole quests to get the large bp and then add 30 with the upgrade purchased from others so 120 total is possible. I carry like 40 guns. Need it.
I believe I beat ghouls melee style with my crossbow and then repaired it when it even showed a sliver of damage.
You can also use the crossbow to tag mobs during events, then let other players kill the mobs, it helped a ton to get 50 kills part done.

i looted 3 Crossbows in the wasteland and repaired them... took me 5min to get them.. easy
Sometimes people beat you to the crossbow spawns, so then you beat ghouls with the crossbow you do have
Best way to get badges is doing the 2 scout daily missions. You have a 25% chance of earning a badge each time.
Me having run those every day for a week and a half straight on top of doing the campfire event when it comes up and never getting a single badge

Swimming was pretty easy. Swim around some buoys, take a few pictures of the water park and you're done

You just need to follow the overseers log quest line to get the plans. I think it's maybe step 2 at Morgantown Airport Terminal.

Go to the overseer camp next to the wayward, they moved the plans to the overseer cache there.

I did it after they lowered it to 300 and with AC TMSG. I just looked at the original and just noped straight away with huge "fuck this shit!" :)

I just left them as saw some require cooperation in a team. Although I intend to revisit them as they reward atoms and backpack mods.

Yea but not enough. I finished up Athlete, Hunter, and I think Mammalogist, then skipped the rest of Tadpole to go to Possum, and I swear there should be more completed than there is, but such a pain to track the challenges.

When doing the race on the bridge, I failed three times - on the third failure the counselor sounds crazed and just gives it to me. I laughed super hard, then went on to the next horrendous challenge. Big Thanks to those who published the answers to the test questions!

Stimpaks get heavy once you get a few hundred and chems are very much good. Thru hiker is for food. It really depends on your build though in where you need to have the weight reduction perk cards. Food kind of expires so I use my freezer in camp and don't really need the weight reduction on my person. In general the 90%weight reduction will be better than a little bit of extra carry weight. I use all of my strength points for other cards so I run the backpack instead of traveling pharmacy.
That’s the one… traveling pharmacy. I run with nearly 300 stims and radaways. Idk why. Addiction. Fear or running out of idk.
So if you use the chemists backpack it frees up that space in your perk cards to use something else or reallocate the points to a different special stat. 300 stims, but then you have your other chems that take up alot of weight as well and seriously boost your damage and damage resistances ap and special stats.

Conversely, they were some of the most fun I've ever had in a Fallout game. None of them are impossible, they encourage teamwork, and they're easy to work on a little bit at a time then go do something else. Taking pictures of the water slides was hilarious, me and a few others were posing for the pictures and all did them at the same time.

I loved this quest so much I've done it on all 3 of my characters! But if you're doing it now, you'll never understand how painful it was trying to find Deathclaw hides back in the day.....or the stimpak diffuser plan....the spawn rate for these was ridiculous compared to now.
Wow. You should do it for others for a fee if you could. Many would gladly pay.
The only big issue I had with it is the amount of 'show next question' screens in the tests on the terminals - made taking all those tests take super long to finish. It's actually kind of refreshing to have so many different challenges to complete in my opinion. Sure it's not easy, but that's the fun of it.
Fun is subjective. I wasn’t so much entertained by the quests themselves but by the variety of enemies that appeared along the way. It’s like the game knows what you’re doing and tries to slow you down.
This is very true, fun is definitely subjective. And some of those tasks were definitely not easy. I'm currently going through them again on an alt character. I tend to try and pick off one or two tasks at a time when things seem slow on the server I'm on.
Prob a good way to do it.
If they added a large backpack plan to the atom shop I would pay any amount of money so I would never have to do tadpole quests on an alt ever again.
Can attest, finished it last night at 3:30am and got 2 hours of sleep because of it.

But the one you are talking about can only be added to the small backpack to get 90 cap. If you do the quests and get the large one you can get 90 and then add the mod you bought for a total of 120.
OTOH, if you are making a mule character, then a small backpack + a HC backpack mod from a main is far easier than grinding a mule to get the standard backpack. +90 carry weight instantly > +120 carry weight plus several hours doing the tadpole quests.
Yes agree. That’s why I waited till I couldn’t take it at level 600 to do tadpole. PTSD is finally subsiding.
Try doing the possum badges. Took me a week of grinding to get enough badges for the high capacity backpack mod. You also have a 25% chance to receive a possum badge from the daily tadpole quests.
I had bought the mod before and had it on the small capacity bp… luckily can put it on the large tadpole one and now 120 capacity. I’m good. That stuff drained me.

They are definitely something that take time. I finally got to the possum and I had to repair a crossbow which for some reason was difficult lol the one that is kinda hard to achieve is healing someone while in water. They always move haha. Also the “wear a fedora while looking for bones “” made me laugh.

I played this game starting in February 2019. When I read about what it took to finish the tadpole quest I never even bothered to visit the camp.

Can't be bothered to scroll through all the comments, but if no one's said it yet: Heart of the Swamp is a great way to get the "revive in water" done, esp. if the final boss is the Grafton monster.
I did mine, after years, the last one task long ago, at cranberry glade during Beasts of Burden. Also I read about people saving a player at encryptid, there’s a puddle there.

I done the archer challenge by going to Raleigh Clay's Bunker and killing the 7 radroaches there, server hoping to get them to respawn didn't take very long.
The crossbow was easy for me, at least. Take off any weapon degradation perks, then kill enemies, repair bow every 15 kills. But the swimming is hard if you don't have a trusted friend.
I ended up doing the athletic badge, entomology badge, and herpetology badge. The worst part was finding an Ant to photograph as it seems they have no certain, dedicated spawn but can spawn at many locations. Took me all of two hours, I believe. The entomology badge plays into the quest as well when you do the insect repellent bit at the dolly area, and you can immediately get most of the bugs photographed. The honey beast can be photographed while doing that part of the quest, along with bees, near the botfly search area in northern Mire. The rest, besides ants, are part of the quest. So photograph them before killing them.

Haha. Not really. I’m a completionist and needed to get them done. You can spend the badges at the vending machine. Also gives me something to do other than dailies, events and such.

I finally finished my three badges this past weekend! It only took me roughly 270 hours to get around to it. Lol. Crossbows were a PITA because I kept having to server hop to find spawns. I did codebreaker, Archer, and Athlete. I also launched my first solo nuke this past weekend also. Although I've heard there are shortcuts in that process. I wanted to do it legitimately at least once.
Lvl 600 … just did tadpole yesterday and have never nuked
I just repaired my crafted one 3 times. It’s a waste but you can just use it slightly and repair it. Like literally 8 or 10 shots and then repair. Getting the 50 kills was so tedious. Then I did mamoligist where you just take pictures or animals and milk a cow 10 times. Then the athletes is by far the easiest I used chems to reach the level required which cleared them then did the 3 obstacle courses.
The only thing that would be worse would be doing all this irl

I need stimpack diffusers, have needed them for a while. Gave up looking lmfao
2 ways: crafting them -> you need to perfectly finish Project Paradise and pray. Or that mutated packages. Second one: buying at a player vendor. There’s no diffusers on the map.

I just followed some guys YouTube tutorial and got it done in a few hours. The possum ones for the backpack upgrade looks daunting though.
Get the large bp from tadpole reward and then do a looking to buy group post for the bp capacity upgrade. I think it goes for like 8-12k
I'm hesitant in starting this challenge, not sure what's better though. Just flat out paying for the monthly sub and using the survival tent whenever I need to stash junk or going through hell with these series of challenges for the backpack stuff.
These challenges are not worth doing. More power to those who do, but the rewards are not worth it.
Can’t get to 120 backpack capacity any other way
It's really not that serious, I run around with a out 350 carry daily, with a survival tent that's not an issue. And by the way you get an extra 10 carry weight, a max of 60 from that quest. So your standard backpack is 40, plus the 10 mod you get from regular story line, so that's 50, you break your neck for 10 more, it's not worth the B's for that 10. The Order of Tadpole quest line will reward you with a regular backpack which can be crafted at your level + 10 to a max of level 50. So the most it can hold is 60. Waste of time.
Not exactly accurate. Small bp is 60 and you can buy a mod for another 30, so 90 tops. With the tadpole you can add that bought mod to the large backpack which is 90 plus another 30 for the mod so 120.
I am missing the mod, that's my issue. I have the small one.
I'm at a point i just need 2 crossbow repairs and a team revive in water, somehow the most difficult.
Palace of winding path. Go in by bus and stay to left. You will see an archery area and a table with broken crossbow. Look online for other locations.
I just started this quest at Lvl 31. Have I made a grave mistake??? Should I put it on the back burner for a bit until I’m a higher level??
Depends if you like a challenge and are persistent. I tried several times over the years to start it and always gave up till now.

Just did this quest yesterday. I did Athletics, Swimming, and Mammalogy. Athletics is a joke, the 3 obstacle courses are so simple. Barely had to even run for them. Mammalogy is just taking pics of animals, not hard at all. Swimming is a swim test that you can run through most of, and you have to revive someone in water. You have to revive someone anyway and doing it once in water takes care of both.
I need to craft antibiotics and stimpak diffusers and I don't have the recipes for either of them ;-;

I got the large one after tadpole .. it’s one of the rewards. I think possum is the bp carry capacity upgrade but you can buy that from other players.
So I just came back recently after 4 years or something and I have a 60 lb backpack, is there a bigger one now? I forget everything pretty much lol
You can buy from other players an upgrade that adds 30 to the small bp plan but u have to do the tadpole quests to get the large bp and then add 30 with the upgrade purchased from others so 120 total is possible. I carry like 40 guns. Need it.
