A FYI if you like taking pictures in photoshop mode or thinking of messing with it, and have high stealth you can get right up next to enemies. Then switch between poses, I have a few sweet photos of me with random hostiles. Just took one in the church at Kanawha County Cemetery surrounded by worshiping cultist while I did the blue flame emote.

dotsuicide

Sir, it's illegal to not share those photos with the rest of us!

Bl00dAngel22

https://imgur.com/a/ihVNlav sorry it took a bit, I just got home.

bivoir

Just an FYI for all, make sure you take off any chameleon armor first! Edit: unless that’s been patched?

NoMoreFuckingPants

Welcome back to the Wasteland. You were missed. So many radioactive squirrels, so little time!

ecksfiftyone

Right?! I love the game. I'm not a big gamer, but I play this game almost everyday for at least 30 -60 minutes. When I tell friends or colleagues who are into games that they should get it they say.. nah, it's full of hackers and assholes with OP weapons because of all the bugs. It's a hard point to argue, I try to tell them it's not like it sounds... But they just give me the.. yeah maybe I'll check it out. But they never do. To be fair that's been about 6 of the 8 people who are into games that I've tried to get to play it... So my 8 person pool might not be typical...

fenriq

Its a pretty great game and highlights just how unplayably toxic games like GTAO have gotten.

thatguyad

Gaming and its culture in general.

BcTendo

My wife knew how excited I was for Fallout 4 (she bought me it on release). We got 76 to play it together and we quit maybe a few days in. Two months ago I had an itch to revisit it and see what changed. I've been in the dark with this game since launch. I've now played it more than any other Fallout. I'm not saying it's the best, but I genuinely look forward to getting on it after working and building camps while she watches and helps out. I've played this game so much now. I'm glad I gave it another chance.

A77eycat

It is nowhere near as bad as it was in the beginning.

TowerJanitor

Been playing since beta, they’ve added very very very little content for a “live service game.” I’d agree if they were better about upholding what they said that they’d do, but the fact of the matter is building and gold roll chasing are the end games and there are a lot of options for both of those. People who played this game play the whole thing and move on in 2-3 months if the prior 2 don’t capture them. The fact is this game has been very popular from a net user perspective, but they failed to do what it takes to retain and grow daily average users. And that’s not to mention all the broken promises/things they said they’d do that never happened.

BeforeDaybreak

> People who played this game play the whole thing and move on in 2-3 months if the prior 2 don’t capture them. As someone who started playing in October I feel this sentiment. I finished nearly all of the main quests (enjoyed those a lot, especially the Brotherhood storyline) but find the daily fetch quests annoying (Find a magazine? Build something in my camp and scrap it immediately because I don't need it? Find dog food to eat? Lol) All of that stuff, in addition to the low daily legendary scrip limit, makes it feel like they're optimizing for daily user login statistics and not player happiness. And sure I can skip the daily fetch quest stuff but there's no way to revisit an old scoreboard so I feel like I'm missing out if I don't do them. I like the game a lot but don't really see myself staying long term unless they tweak things around a bit.

WitchDoctor_Earth

As a former WoW-player I love how much fallout gives you every day.

Stellarjay25

I wish I had these feelings. It doesn't run well for me and I get awful FPS and constantly being kicked from the servers. I've had 2 different ISP's as well. It's unplayable for me. I know my laptop isn't the BEST but should run it at above 15 FPS.

cgj002

**Some tips for you to hopefully get it running better** * If your laptop has a 4k monitor, run the game in fullscreen and set resolution to 1080p (setting to fullscreen instead of borderless will help fps regardless btw) * Set the game to run as admin * Disable background processes i.e. MS gamebar + non-essential background processes * Download fallout 76 quick configurator from the nexus to easily tweak your ini and install the following mods (primarily used to disable vsync, fix black screen load in bug, reduce render distance and turn off grass) * Download the mod big fps boost * Download the mod tex lite with your preferred texture quality (gives you better quality than vanilla lower resolution textures)

pola-dude

If you do not mind please share your configuration (CPU model, GPU model, amount of RAM. SSD or HDD drive) and whether you did any steps already to customize the game settings or .ini files. There are several things that can be done to improve the performance. (For iGPUs and older GPUs with 4GB or less VRAM I would suggest disabling the built in V-Sync by changing iPrensentInterval from 1 to 0 in the Fallout76prefs.ini (Project76prefs.ini for Gamepass/MS Store version). Then use your machines GPU driver to manage the game. Changing the in game setting textures to low, general/object draw distance to medium, grass draw distance to low, lighting detail to medium, water to medium and shadows to medium should increase FPS. The mod FO76 optimized textures contains the original game textures in a more compressed form and can be applied over the current game files if small VRAM is an issue. It was not updated for a while, still seems to work.)

Tonipg

I have played plenty of online games and I can say for sure this one right now has the least toxic community of all of them. I guess the lack of chat helps lol

FIELDSLAVE

It has been laggy as hell lately. Is Microsoft doing budget cuts?

knightfluttershy

I played it for about 100 and something hours, finished all the storylines then never tried it again. It was a lot of fun for sure, but not something I can play for hundreds of hours like the other games.

vipck83

I’ll admit, I was skeptical and came late tot he game, but now that I am playing I agree. This game is great.

VoltageKid56

While 76 has made a remarkable comeback (especially this year in terms of new content), unfortunately the disastrous first few months of 76’s life (the bugs, lack of content, lack of developer communication, lack of canvas bags, and various other bad merch drops) will likely always haunt the game’s reputation. Such a bad start is hard to shake off in the minds of potential players considering trying the game. Which is honestly really sad. This game a wonderful community and is pretty fun now, essentially compared to launch day. I should know considering I’ve played since the beta.

Riomaki

I can't really agree. It basically gets what it deserves... a small but fairly dedicated community in exchange for sluggish, often uninspired updates that don't really offer *that* much content.

Natural-Setting1512

My biggest issue is inventory management. It nearly ruins the game for me. But overall its decent so far. gunplay is pretty...mediocre. but Im trying to figure out the game. I dont really see where or why the game is mulitplayer.

fenriq

Join some events and the multiplayer part makes alot more sense. There is a kinda steep learning curve to getting your guns to be effective but its worthwhile.

TripMcNeelE

Once the remove script time gate I would agree.

True-Bar8817

Awesome! I love the game and find taking breaks between finishing Scoreboards keeps it fresh for me.. but I stil dip in and play in between. I'm 100% fine with F1st as well. It's well worth it for something I spent/d so much time playing!

Opening_Horror4627

Hey, congrats on completing the Scoreboard! Just in time!

goodbye2007

Just bought the game on sale last week, haven’t had a chance to give it a try but as a huge Fallout fan, I’ve always wanted it to be a good experience. So I can’t wait to give it a go!

Liminal_Critter817

It's a great game now but I think it's right where it deserves to be considering how badly they've butchered some things going all the way back to launch. Unfortunately the story of this game will always be unrecognized potential.

CrustBoiiMemo

I agree!! I played on day one and was extremely hyped being a fallout fan, but was sadly let down by how buggy and empty the world was. I tried my hardest to keep engaged, but in the end I just moved on to a new game. Four years later(this year) I started looking for a new game to play with some friends and I jokingly asked, "What about Fallout 76?" We all laughed and I downloaded it thinking I was going to forget about it in a week or so. I jumped back in on October and was immediately hooked. Not only was there more things to do, but there's also free season passes now?!? And grinding out events has been so much fun. Not to mention how chill most of the community is, haven't really had any problems with griefers but im sure there are some out there lol Anyways, I love what the game has become and as a day one player I can say the developers have redeemed themselves more than enough. The counsel agrees: https://i.imgur.com/pIs7XMX.jpeg

SamMarlow

I don't think it's not popular though?

Rude-Amphibian6848

A lot of people I know refuse to try it because "the game is a boring disaster". They won't give it a chance because of how it was at launch. They love Cyberpunk 2077 though...

Brix106

This game is literally on gamepass, if it was going to be a smash hit it would have happened by now. I like the game but its the truth.

JuiceHead2

Cyberpunk and Fallout 76 are completely different situations imo. Cyberpunk has always been good on a PC and next-gen (mostly), but CDPR did some bad stuff with last-gen/reviews Fallout 76 literally had Fallout 4 bugs on release that led to a shit load of server instability, not to mention no dialogue choices. Thankfully Fallout 76 is pretty fun and great for new players now (except the endgame)

berkeley-games

Cyberpunk was still fucked up on a good PC. Tons of bugs and crashes.

Sekiberius

It's definitely in a much, much better state than at launch, but it still needs a lot of work. Combat is extremely clunky most of the time do to server hit reg lag, which in some severe cases can take up to almost 10 seconds for your shots to even register, even in the best case scenario most enemies don't go down the moment they should. Balance is still completely wacked 4 years later, hopefully they make this a priority as using the same couple weapons is extremely boring. The whole perk system could seriously use a slight overhaul as it is quite restrictive in the sense that it kind of limits you to the same certain perks for any particular build because of the 15 point cap. Imo, the thing that's really hurting this game is the lack of meaningful end game content and worthwhile endgame rewards. I hope they use the expedition system to add lots of new activities, weapons and cosmetics into the game.

[deleted]

Agreed

hiddengirl1992

I was on the receiving end of a gift copy on launch week. I played for a little while, but everyone else who played at the time, including the gifter, stopped pretty much as soon as I began.

Vault-A

I disagree, while the game has improved, it still has many flaws, both new and old. It took the almost four years to finally give us an update on the explosive energy weapon "adjustment", just for them to delay it a month later. It should not take 1300 days for a patch, let alone from a company of this size I think it's current popularity is more than fair until they actually address the issues

R_Meyer1

Game has improved greatly since launch

thretion

Not with dat optimization

monsieurdl

Fallout 76 has greatly improved since launch, and certain seasons are way better than others for scoreboard items. I really enjoy the content they have been regularly producing with all of the updates. Rockstar left us all hanging with Red Dead Online and almost completely abandoned what was an amazing game. I don't think people fully appreciate what Bethesda has done with the game that has been out there for 4 years. My only beef is the Fallout 1st scoreboard items which take a large chunk of the really cool CAMP items which used to be for everyone grinding in earlier seasons. I'm glad more people are revisiting Fallout 76, which is a tremendously generous online community!

Big_Transportation24

I never post on Reddit but I'll give this one a shot since this game has been such an enigma for me over the last 4 years. To preface, I played this game at launch, it was a terrible, slow, monotonous, wreck of a game. I as with most dropped the game shortly after due to the frankly award winning amount of bugs. I checked in constantly with the game as I loved 4 so why wouldn't I love 4 but multiplayer? I was there for nuclear winter(actually one of my favorite battle royals for some shameful reason), hardcore mode(still don't understand why this was removed, I know it was kinda pointless but that XP bonus was nice and I always preferred a hardcore mode anyways), and many more long gone "features". But seeing how this game has evolved over the years I can for sure say that I agree. It should be more popular, but I don't think it ever will, here's why. #1 this game completely hamstrings you but still dangles the carrot in front of you in nearly every facet of the game. Examples: Stash limit and inventory management being extremely limited past the first few hours with a paid fix. C.a.m.p budget being restricted, this feature is already limited by the fact that it has a definite area where you can place things, which is fine, but there isn't really much point in not giving the player more freedom to express themselves and build their camp however they want as long as it fits inside the area, at the very least there should be "upgrades" to the budget that you unlock through quests or even as cap purchasable budget expansions, it's been 4 years of micro transactions and scoreboard rewards and we still have a ridiculously small camp budget. Scrip I mean how is it honestly better for the player that this is so heavily time gated...if people want to grind out and get a bunch it should be their choice, most of us I'm sure have kids or at least a wife so playing every day for some arbitrary scrip limit isn't realistic and adds nothing to the game. Gold bullion, same thing as scrip, no reason at all for this to be time gated. #2Mobile game style progression, obviously this doesn't need much of an introduction, all the cool stuff is in the shop/end of the scoreboard, and (most) of the stuff we get in game is just recolors of the stuff they've been selling for atoms or just objectively worse in comparison. #3 the launch, this goes without saying but it's burned so many people that will never come back, and it's got a stigma, and rightfully so about being a dumpster fire for most of the last 4 years. #4 it's poorly optimized, I've played the game on Xbox 1( at launch), pc, and ps4, this game is so horribly optimized that I'm even surprised it has the number of players it has, constant disconnects, buggy quests, glitchy enemies, spawning under camps....and the worst part is there's always new bugs/optimizations breaks...it's frankly unexcusable how poorly this game runs and how many problems it continues to have. #5 poorly received and slow updates, the quality of the updates this game receives is almost laughable, Im sure a majority of the content from launch to now could be completely in less than 75 hours and that's being generous, not to mention every bug fix/update always bring back old bugs or adds new ones to the mix that don't get addressed until the next update 4 months down the line. Not to mention the Pitt...incredibly boring and uninspired it's just a daily op with more steps and takes 2-3x as long(if you're lucky) and wouldn't surprise me if it's their least engaged feature they've added so far. #6 they ripped nearly all the assets straight from fallout 4, this doesn't need much of an introduction but most of the weapons, items, buildables, and other assets are straight copies from fallout 4, while that would be fine in most circumstances as it's not like there's many ways to reinvent the 10mm pistol and there's better things to use dev time on, they cut corners using these assets and the game still runs like a 3 legged horse on half a treadmill. I could go on but I just don't have the energy to, plus as someone who's excited about the NWOT update tomorrow...it's kinda bumming me out. There are many positive things about this game too, like the community, free scoreboard updates, quests, and just being a decent way to waste a couple hours. I don't want it to feel like this game deserves hate. But in closing I think it's just that, it doesn't deserve hate, they've put some reasonable work in and this game has come a long way from launch, but it also doesn't even come close to deserving to be more popular. The game where it's at now is where it should have been at launch, and I think if it was then this game would be around for many more years, but in it's current stay I can only see it's player base dying from being time gated and choked of it's passion and life at every turn so Bethesda can get their engagement metrics up. I hope I'm wrong, but based on how slowly this game has been sinking and how few new players it attracts...I think it will be 5 years max before we're talking about servers being closed and it wouldn't surprise me if it was sooner if they continue to squander what good will and passionate fans they have left.

DasGruberg

Couldn't upvote it more. New season and content for destiny 2 today. Great example of how to make a proper service game. Compared to this one. You're dead on with the gacha / mobile model. I wanted to love the game so long, but not getting any improvements for next gen consoles (ps5) is the last drop. People should be warned. And don't spend your most precious currency on it. (Time)

fenriq

TLDR. Shout some more or something.

SuperTerram

I don't think Fallout 76 has the formula to be more popular now. It resolved it's main issues by 2020, and that was 2 years ago. We're going into the games 4th year... and to date, something like 11 million people have played the game. Compare that with the 40+ million who have played Fallout 4... and I think you see the point. People want single-player RPG Fallout, not multiplayer Fallout a-la microtransactions/subscriptions. This sentiment has been echoed almost everywhere. Just because a minority of gamers really likes this particular rendition of Fallout, does not mean the majority do... and the games numbers reflect that quite vividly.

WitchDoctor_Earth

I didnt gave this game a chance because of bad press but for 10$ I tried it with friends and im totally addicted. People are missing out.

monsieurdl

Fallout 4 has been out since 2016 and its release was smooth, while Fallout 76 got a lot of bad press and struggled to get right. To infer that a "majority" of Fallout gamers prefer single RPG Fallout is utter nonsense. Your opinion is your own and like it or not, millions of us really enjoy the game and will gladly spend our money on content just like ANYONE ELSE would for the Fallout 4 DLCs and beyond. We've been spending the extra cash for years and years, going back to Fallout 3 DLCs onwards. So your attempt to stifle the newly found appreciation for Fallout 76 is ridiculous...

TreaDHeaD19k

Disagree. Most are waiting on Starfield, the next Elder Scrolls an finally another main Fallout title. Updates on 76 are meh at best and ending in the next year or so anyways. Alot of us you new players replaced checked out years ago.

SuperTerram

Actually... I don't really have an opinion about the number of players. The data is all public. Additionally, there have been several articles, community polls, not to mention thousands of discussions over the last 4 years about this exact subject... many of which I've been a part of. I have over 5000 hours in Fallout 4, and another 4000+ hours in Fallout 76. I'm a very pragmatic, logic brained person, who just follows the conversation, and shares what I see/hear with this community. If you want to take a look at my accounts posts/comments, you'll see that ALL my time spent on reddit is spent here in r/fo76... mostly informing, and discussing topics like this... and the game in general. I really hate it when people like you "finger" me when I share my perspective. I realize that is can be called opinion... but I don't "hate this game" or something... I'm probably a much bigger fan than you... or at least, we're peers. So lets agree to disagree about whatever bug crawled up your ass... haha. Cheers.

x12bx

It doesn't deserve anything. It exists to make money from you.

monsieurdl

This person will probably buy Fallout 5 and all of the DLCs that come with it and yet STILL whine about Bethesda "making money"

x12bx

Yeah, if I spend my hard earned money on a game and the product comes full of bugs and micro transactions. Of course I'll say something. You should too. I am not going to spend $60 and get a shit game and be quiet about it.

scoyne15

I never enjoyed the Power Armor/ Heavy Weapons meta. I stopped playing long ago when I saw rifle/pistols were basically forgotten and ignored. I stay subbed in the hopes that they make them viable.

FIELDSLAVE

crusader pistol/plasma thrower

NotGaryGary

No it doesn't. The way it was released it deserved to be canceled. I am glad it wasn't but the content drips we get are far far far from industry standard. The game deserves to be moderately popular and die a slow death.

monsieurdl

What is the "industry standard" for a game that is still going on after 4 years? You're cracked...

fakeprewarbook

he’s an avid commenter in r/teenagers i don’t think you need to sweat his professional opinion

NotGaryGary

Well it never even came close to a professional development standard.

TreaDHeaD19k

4 years ain't shit. You realize there are live service games on a dacade or more. One major update from Bethesda (wastelanders) and they passed it off.

[deleted]

Probably would be if the ammo didn’t weigh anything and the stash housed scrap like the scrapbox. I’m a big Bethesda fan. I’m also aware of the scrap box and ammo box coming out, but I’m just saying those are contributing factors.

R_Meyer1

Fallout 1st is your best friend

TreaDHeaD19k

Gotta pay a sub to get a game feature. I'm sure that'll go over well with the masses. (Spoiler: It didnt)

NjFERXZZ

as a new player my only issue of not recommending it for other ppl/friends is how awful the servers are.. enemies reacting late to my bullets and dying half a second late.. it's like you're playing with 250-300 ping even thou i got 60 ping in eu in every other game with no lag.. this makes the combat worse than fo4 even thou it should be the same thing(and i love fo4 alot)

WitchDoctor_Earth

Never happend to me. I do miss with the war glave on sure shots though. Its the only weapon it happens with.

NjFERXZZ

well, that might mean the game is putting me in us servers or some shit, not sure.. either way a bad experience in combat that i never had in any other multiplayer online game.

OscarMyk

The main thing I found playing through with a bunch of friends is that it could really do with some way of triggering a lot of action - taking a workshop ended up being the best experience, but maybe camps need an alarm that acts to call large waves of enemies to your camp. Solo, it's a really cool exploration/survival game. But trying to follow quests (especially text heavy ones, or ones that require a lot of travelling) in multiplayer gets a lot harder to manage.

Sean__Wick

Not really. The developer is garbage. Updates are generally anywhere from neutral to pretty bad. And there is a remarkable lack of direction and community involvement. It's an acquired taste.

[deleted]

I love the community of this game. Almost 95% of the people I have met/played with have always been the most helpful and kindest people I have ever met in a video game. People dropping loot, helping out with quests/events, making new friends, and so many other things. This game for sure had it’s rough launch and as any game, there’s always room for improvement. I will always stand by that Fallout 76 had one of the best communities and countless of things to do in the game. I too also just got back into the game after a year and a half break!

Minute_Fisherman7553

I played the game when it came out I finished the main quest lines but stopped playing when I had no one really to play with. Coming back after my brother begged me to has been amazing I loved the fallout series. And realizing they messed with quests that I now had to finish again. Ugh
