If you’re close to Surry Hills might as well just go a bit further to Haymarket. The best Thai is there and nothing else really comes close; especially if you’re after “cheap and cheerful”
As a Thai person, this! Good ones are in the city (near Capitol Theatre) or haymarket. Good Thai food is cheap and cheerful - type you find on streets and markets. Some options: Caysorn, Doodee Paidang, Tawandaeng
This is the way.
If it helps, I asked a lot of Thai chefs and community groups and plotted all their recommendations [on a map](https://haveyoueaten.co/cuisines/Thai). If you want to get more specific you also also search for southern Thai, Isaan and northern Thai.
Joe’s Table in Darlinghurst.
Best authentic Thai in the area, great for sharing, BYO (and drinks menu). He moved to a slightly larger venue late last year which I’m yet to visit but used to be a hole in the wall that was operated solely by Joe himself
My trusty locals are Thaipower in Potts Point and Thai Tharee in Darlinghurst! Also unrelated but Dumpling and Noodle House in Potts Point is worth checking out too 🤌🏼
A little further out on Glebe Point Road is a cash only place called Tom Yung Tum Gang, and it’s so good. They have a lunch special where most of the menu is like $10 or $11.
Joe's Table and Spice I Am are both great, and slightly further over in Thai Town/Haymarket, Yok Yor, Porkfat, Khao Kang Maruay and Show Neua are also delicious.
Thai Tharee. I spent a few months puppy sitting in Darlinghurst last year. Thai Tharee was the best Thai out of the bunch. It’s a nice little restaurant and you can eat in there. If you’re after a few cocktails with your Thai, Darlo Bar has a few items sourced from Tharee on their menu as well.

Adding Yok Yor and Show Neuw to these!
And Yod across the street from Yok Yor
I love Tawandaeng! Go there every time I come back to Sydney.
Spice I am is near there, so good!

Pork fat Haymarket, chat Thai and Thainatown, thai is all cheap can’t really find anything fine or expensive don’t worry about it
Pork fat is the bomb
Third Pork fat
Eat Thai on Darlinghurst road. The only thing I’ve not liked from there is their spring rolls
The prawn Pad Thai is to die for
Try Spice I Am in surry hills.
Came here to say this!
Thai Nesia Oxford Street
Still there. Been there for at least 35 years. That must say something.
An institution. Love it.

It’s delicious, but I wouldn’t call it cheap. Do recommend though.
Tongue Thai’d on Crown St is amazing and they have a lovely courtyard out the back

Yep Thai Taree is fantastic and definitely casual dining.
>Thai Tharee in Darlinghurst! Another vote for Thai Tharee here. Excellent & good value I think.
I’m Thai…. It’s average at best
Llankelly Thai

Just go to Thai Town in Haymarket for the best food and dessert shops.
Second this one. Thai town is the place to be for Thai.
100% especially the desserts and coconut icecream
Great place
Yok yor is under rated I reckon best Thai in Sydney.
Joe's table! Not cheap but very recomendable
I know him pretty cool is he still open? Same location in darlo?
He's now on in the corner of William St and Bourke St!
Spice I am
Nung Leng Potts Point
Thai Power in Potts Point is great
Thai Power is 💪 Great lunch specials.
Konger, on Victoria St.
I like 3 seasons Thai on Darlinghurst road. I'm thinking about it now
I went to Kindness Vegan a few days ago and would recommend them. Atmospheric outdoor seating, decent price, friendly service, good meal
Thai town Haymarket. Spoilt for choice
Not sure if it’s good but Chilli Basil is having $5 discount offer at the moment. And the average dish costs around $20-ish. It’s is Burwood tho.
Campbell street is Thai Town
Yok Yor!
Abb Air World Square in the city
Eat Thai is good
Wandee Thai was my fave when I lived in the area! Close to central on the Surry side, right opposite El Loco
“Spice I am” is the best Thai in Australia
