The breadtop just at the end of that exit onto George street also has some good stuff for under $4. I personally love their spicy chicken buns and chicken and mushroom donuts. I haven't seen those at other breadtops.
I wanted to add a hot chocolate but the nice places have all raised their prices. Same with a hot drink from "T Totaler", all over $5 now :/
I reckon those snack items from Oiden/Mappen would still be ok like karaage or takoyaki, as is chips (KFC or Oporto)
Sweets wise
- Macaron (e.g. La belle miette)
- Portugese tart - Good Vibes only near Barangaroo stocks from Tuga pastries which IMHO is the best in Sydney
I like a yoghurt from the supermarket sometimes when I pretend to be healthy
Not sure if Darling Square is considered CBD but a tiny scoop of Messina (as 'basic bitch' as that is) for $5 always hits the spot. Also enjoy the snacks from Thai Dessert Corner next to the Capitol Theatre, there are a couple there for $5.
The flavours of the Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts other than the Original are just over $5 but still a nice dessert that can be enjoyed hot or cold, or even just freshly purchased!
Breadtop sausage bun, I think it's around $3.50-$4? Also their twin sausage bun is around that price.
I've gotten $5 takoyaki from somewhere before but can't remember where, it might have been the UTS sushi place
I feel like the quality of bread top hasn’t kept up when there’s competitors like top impression and 85 degree. Have you tried Dragon Pastry in Haymarket? Beautiful red bean, lotus seed, taro filled goodies, not too sweet for $2-5
Davids kitchen does a bag of fried chicken skins from their hot bar. I think its about $6. Its super addicting and moreish. It's sometimes sold out by evening so best chances would be lunch time!
The giant pork and chive buns from cutie puff at town hall out the front of the Citi grocery Asian supermarket near breadtop
Yes good spot! There’s also a little Japanese store next to Woolies Town Hall that have $2 steamed buns

No no no don’t go to that particular breadtop it gave me violent food poisoning twice!!

Pushing the budget a bit but the $6 taiyaki at Tsukiyo in Darling Square is a nice hot treat
would be great if the CBD has those vietnamese bakeries scattered in the suburbs, cheese and bacon rolls for $2.50-$3 are a great snack
A Hokkaido Cheese Tart from World Square should be less than $5 and it's 🤤
Original and yuzu flavours are my go to!

KFC Go Bucket for when I’m feeling something savoury
Custard puffs!
Samosa from any Indian restaurant.
Walking from town hall to QVB on my way home, there’s a fish place that has everything for $5. You can get 3 crab claws, or a salad.
I didn't know $5 snacks from CBD locations existed

Guzman y Gomez tacos. $3
I just get a Chobani pouch from Town Hall Woolies lol
Woolies has a 2pc ham and cheese croissant for 4.50 which is not bad at all, pretty filling too
Egg roll at the bakery above Wynard station, with Siracha.

Where in Wynyard is this mochi donut? I must have it!
It’s called mochi donuts on the ground floor of the MetCentre connecting to Wynyard station!
Thanks heaps!!
Pretzel from Luneburger at town hall where the underground meets QVB
