This could easily be either oil separation that then hardened in the cold, or mold. I suggest popping it in the microwave for no more than 30 seconds and seeing what happens.
If you end up with a clear puddle on top then it's just oil.
Don't forget to give it a sniff. Does it smell earthy? Mildewy? Just like it's supposed to?
