I’ve had 2 players I’ve brought in come out. One was the best striker I’ve ever had in a save, David Davidson. Would skip practices partying hard, get fined, show up on match day and do his job. Loved that lad.

Never personally seen that event in my games and haven't got a son yet but today I saw 2 things I thought were not possible, a goal ruled offside was given after a VAR review and a red card review that I didn't even know was a thing, both during the same match, I appealed the suspension and was overruled
A gay son is fine, but a 1.5 star potential is where I draw the line. No son of mine is gonna come home with slightly downward pointing arrows next to him.
Out of all seriousness, because I haven’t had this event happen to my in any FM saves so far, how does this affect the game? Do their ratings change in some way? Does the club sell more jerseys? Does their transfer value increase/decrease?
I hope it mostly stays cosmetic, and only affect things like shirt sales.
I dread if they introduce things like positive or negative reactions and relationships from team mates or positive or negative reactions from fans. Even though it will be realictic, it would be a bad thing to introduce to the game. Same with racism. I don't think that's in the game too. But would be aweful if you get things like players getting demotivated because of racial insults from the fans. Or something.
You shouldn't worry. The devs refused to add covid to the game because it is supposed to be a "escape from reality". So I doubt they'd add anything like that.
If you look at some of the causes they've partnered with, Kick It Out is one of them. Kick It Out is a campaign against racism in football, so racism is not going to make its way into the game.
SI is generally against putting anything unsavory into the game, so don't worry about it.

And to answer your question, since there's so little representation of gay people in sports (and also in esports for example), gay people will flock towards that person. I don't follow most sports, but in League of Legends esports, Biofrost (a player that's been around for a while) recently came out and the amount of support he got from the community was overwhelming, and he had a new spike of like 10k followers on twitter just from that. Same reason why big companies all start using pride logos during June - marketing makes them money.
