Super common on the first gen fusions. Go to autozone. They have a handle for like 40 bucks. You will need a trim tool if you car about your trim or you can use a flathead if you don’t. I think there are 3 8mm bolts if I remember correctly. I did it like 2 years ago.

GreatValue-exe

Woah, $40? I just replaced mine and bought it on amazon for $10.58

mrcalihockeyguy91

This is the way Amazon and/or eBay the replacement handle can be found dirt cheap on there

unspecified89

Did this to my ford fusion not too long ago. Takes 10 minutes without mechanical skill. Dealership wanted to charge over 200 dollars.

GoatCountry

would it be cheaper to look for my model of car with an intact handle in the junkyard?

ExtraVirgin0live

There’s a small plastic hook/clip I don’t remember exactly the part but that’s what breaks and doesn’t allow the handle to engage. They last around 8 years so if you’re grabbing once from a pick and pull chances are it’ll break sooner than it should again.

V20FRILL

A piece from a junkyard will probably have the same or more amount of wear on it already. Probably better just to buy a new one and be done with it for a while. They make them out of metal as well, and that's what I replace mine with. I will say it does not have the same smooth feel as the plastic one it's a little ridgy, but I know I'll never have to replace this one again. I got mine off of eBay. Around $40 USD. Or you could just keep opening the door like that for $0.

ShotConsideration173

Also got a metal replacement. I’ve noticed a clicking sound when using and it’s a bit smaller than the original. Is this something you experienced?

V20FRILL

No clicking with mine, but it does sit a tad bit more angled inward than the stock one so the lock isn't exactly lined up with the handle when in the resting position. Nothing major though. Still getting used to that huge ridge Lol.

It_is_big_faze

Yes for sure. Just look at it to make sure the wire didn’t dig through the plastic yet.

dabangsta

I buy these from the you pull it junk yards for $6 a piece (used to be $4), but with new ones available for pretty cheap (aftermarket or direct from China), I dealt with it using the work around which is to also pull the door lock above it at the same time (like you did)...but it you should replace it soon.

BickNickerson

Check eBay

Perfect-Gap-8295

i got the door handle on Amazon for 10$ and replaced it for 45 minutes. There’s a Youtube instruction video for you. Don’t go to mechanic shop. They will rip you off badly

DoomsdayAlgorithm

I think our handle was like $12 as well from Amazon. Did it ourselves after watching a video on YouTube. It was super easy!

ShotConsideration173

I got a more expensive metal handle on Amazon but it makes an annoying clicking sound. Do you have a similar experience or no?

Deo-Sloth24

It's broke, homie. Turn off the auto lock/unlock feature, it'll help prevent breaks (speaking from experience here). Thankfully a replacement part isn't more than maybe $20, and there's DIY tutorials on YouTube. Stupid plastic pieces 🙃

whitelightning91

Yup. Bought a $10 replacement off eBay and put on myself within 20mins. If a dummy like me can do it, anyone can. It’s just removing the screws and putting them back on.

ThoseRMyMonkeys

My 2011 did something similar. I went to get out and the cable snap off the handle. A couple of days later I had the new handle and it took less than an hour to replace it. Now I've got to do something with the back door handle. It still works, but it stays sticking out.

-Midwest_Menace

Super common on these. Everyone who has owned one has replaced at least one. I had to do all mine eventually over the 5 years that I had it. They are like $14 each on rock auto or at least they used to be anyways.

81toog

I’ve owned my 2008 Fusion for 15 years and this is my first time hearing about this. My door handles are fine at the momment

-Midwest_Menace

You must pretend you’re shaking hands with a cat that has osteoporosis when you use your handles or something. You’re the first person Ive heard of with a first gen fusion with original handles. That’s honestly impressive.

81toog

Well I’m glad I know about this so I’ll be careful with them going forward

-Midwest_Menace

At least they are cheap and easy to replace if it does happen.

Nopenopenope00000001

Yes, my Fusion has this, and my husbands fusion broke like this too before

SeawardFriend

Yes sir. Happened to mine. I just replaced the handle and it was all good. It was under $20 on eBay motors and quite a simple repair. Though I do suggest buying some door clips because they break almost every time you take off the door covers.

Arts251

Yes very common, the fix is to order a replacement from ebay, not too difficult to install yourself.

Agreeable_Situation4

Buy one of the internet and replace it. I did it. Was easy.At least you can still get out haha

SquidBilly_theKid

Yep. Got the replacement but decided it was too cold to do outside in the winter and now it’s too hot. I’m living with it

HUNTERNIXON

My dad ordered me one on amazon for about 18 dollars. I installed it in our workshop in about a half hour. Very simple job just take the bolts out take the wire and reattach the qire to the new handle and put it all back together. Bounus points if you use some black automotive adhesive on the door plastic when you reinstall it on the door for that crisp waterproof seal

RockLobsterSDV

Super common, I'm on my 3rd handle. The fix is pretty easy and takes about 40 minutes to do. Theres a few youtube tutorials! Just gotta buy the part.

RedStinkyFingers

Lock door actuator, common in ford fusions year 2006-2009 around 80,000 miles to break. I’ve purchased multiple on eBay for $9-12. Simple tools and a YouTube video and you get it done in less than 30mins.

tntjperic

I bought a spare on Ebay years ago and this issue happened last year. Its an easy fix.

AngryPercy98

Mine's been broke for 5 years now. I don't even think about it anymore, it's just a habit for me to open it that way.

dylarson5

I'm in the same boat 😂 I stumbled across this post and it has me thinking maybe I should fix it now

AngryPercy98

Nah. Still not fixing mine 😅

mattthefucker

Easy fix it happened to me 3 times on the same door never fixed the backseat but I think every door handle had to be replaced once on my 09

Unhappy-Plastic-8563

I’ve had it happen on 3 doors so far. Just go to the scrap yard and get and “new” one for like 10 bucks. They’re super easy to replace

Sir_BusinessNinja

Just get a handle off of eBay for like ten bucks and just swap it out yourself. It’s super easy.

gregalmond

yep. careful removing plug that covers the screw - mine didn't want to come out and got a little messed up... junkyard one is probably ready to break, too pretty simple repair

GreatValue-exe

Inside the handle there is some plastic that connectes the handle to the lock and it is a common thing for that plastic to break. MAYBE you could so some janky epoxy job to fix it, but you can buy 3rd party replacement handles on amazon for around $11 and its super easy to fix. If you have never done any car work then this is a great project for you to work on and should take 15 minutes or so. Just check out some youtube videos and documentation. About 2 weeks ago I had to do the same thing

xMarty_710x

Amazon has it cheap, and then just YouTube the steps it’s fairly simple 🙂

ReasonAmbitious326

Yup I had to replace the door lock.

Prestigious_Ear505

FWIW, my 2011 SE passenger broke this way when the door was unlocked by driver electricly at the same time someone pulled the outside handle. Repaired and never repeated. May have been a coincidence.

boogeyman270

Happened to my 2012. I had to get it replaced. I think just over $300 iirc. The smaller button will wear out and break off quickly, so I would get it fixed soon.

Altruistic-Knee-2523

This is the craziest thing ever to me 😂😂😂 I been rocking my handle like this for almost 2 years. Forgot I even opened it like this until you said something. Doesn’t bother me anymore and tbh the 45 minute fix sounds like too much hassle. 150000 miles running it into the dirt

deepfriedtots

Yeah I have the same generation fusion and my handle is busted

Weak-Preference-2405

It's happened to literally EVERYONE else. 😂

Mpharns1

Always happens. Easy to replace

ShadowRabit

I use my exterior handle whatttt!!

roehlstation

Yep, costs about $12 for the part and takes about 30 minutes to fix.

RJT2030

I had my door panel off over the weekend. Remove the panel and reconnect the white piece. Here is a YouTube video to show you how to remove and fix. https://youtu.be/cIOF8DHYa2U?si=jmTRNGLSDaTjnFXl

ShotConsideration173

Different car, different generation, does not not show how to remove op’s door, is not the solution to op’s problem

RJT2030

Oh that stinks. That would have been an easy fix.
