Just street circuit things
Sucks that motor racing will be at least half street circuits in a few decades since permanent tracks will be less and less feasible in the future.
Sort of. It was a (fairly flimsy) drain cover on the outside of a turn, so definitely not anywhere near as bad as a solid metal manhole right in the middle of a straight. Between that and the fact that Portimao wasn't even on the calendar three months previously people weren't too critical of that one.
seems like a drain cover or some sort of the track is popping out of the ground. hit zhou’s car and then sainz bottomed out and it killed his engine/suspension or something that caused him to come to a complete stop
That was pretty quick for Ferrari to lose millions from their budget cap because the FIA didn't do a good enough job checking the track, and we only got 8 minutes before it broke, who knows what other issues there may be.
That would be one hell of a coincidence. The issue happened at the exact same point the drain came up and theres images showing the bottom of Sainz’s car basically ripped out. It’s probably safe to say he hit it.
Pretty bad start, not a great look.
I will say though that they're not the first track to have issues with drain covers popping loose - so let's keep that in mind when shitting on Vegas.

Grosjean in Malaysia 2017 the most dramatic I can think of.
I'm worried about who has to test the rest of the track.
Not to overreact, but Carlos has a destroyed car, and who will want to test the track next practice when we only got a few minutes of running.
Hope they check anything that could remotely do what we saw happen to Carlos, that was a serious hit. Ferrari are our of potentially a suspension, gearbox, floor, and chassis.
That's a massive hit of their budget.

Holy shit, is there a record for shortest practice session?
Azerbaijan 2019 was 12 minutes after George hit that drain cover.

Grosjean hit a drain cover in Sepang before, so its not only limited to street circuits
Didn't Portimao also have issues in 2020? Or am I mistaken?

Lots of data collected, and even more rubber put on the track...
lmao
We got 9 minutes of cars. All in I consider this an absolute win.
Don’t wanna spoil the crowd too much
Almost as much action as Spa 21.
Lmao poor ticket holders
They better bring out Cirque De Solie or something to entertain the crowd
blue man group was already there so maybe they start just drumming random shit
Drum on the water valve boxes
Nah they'll want people back in the casinos
Exactly. That manhole cover was an inside job.
As long as they can repair the track issues, they may just extend FP2 and FP3 to a longer timeframe. They’ve done that in the past.
Surely they will have to, being a new track the drivers need the practice out there.

Fans about to get mayo and cheese sandwiches
Not for what I paid, cheaper than drinks at the sports book 😂
Well done boys we back in Azerbaijan 2019.
Lmao
I've been watching without audio, what's happened?
Sainz hit a drain cover and caused a red flag. No injuries.
And Ocon and Zhao
[удалено]
Yes he did lol, it’s clear.

HAAS TAKES 2ND AND 3RD IN FREE PRACTICE!!! AMERICA!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!! 🇺🇸🦅🗼⛲🎲🌃🇺🇸
My man
lmfao what a joke
Track isn’t ready and it ruined sainz bottom. They need to repair. Great start
Also apparently Ocon and Zhou as well. Ocon is actually changing his chasis. What a mess.
It reportedly broke his suspension, gearbox and chassis.
I feel like this shouldn't impact the cost cap. FIA should pay for the damages
Probably the circuit. Just like Sepang (it's insurer) paid Haas.
This comment is low key hilarious out of context lmao
it will need a lot of hard work to repair, and then they still have to fix the track!
Did Sainz actually hit something? I thought it was a mechanical failure unrelated to the drain cover.
That would be one hell of a coincidence. The issue happened at the exact same point the drain came up and theres images showing the bottom of Sainz’s car basically ripped out. It’s probably safe to say he hit it.
You're right, just saw a picture of the damage on Carlos' car.
Lmao what a shit show
Imagine paying a few thousand dollars for that
Plenty of people bought day 1 only because that’s all they could afford. Mount up lawyers
Prepare for "I went to F1 vegas and I only got this lousy t-shirt"
Opening ceremony lasted longer than FP1, what a joke!
Now you know where their priorities lie. Absolute cringefest.
What a disaster start to the weekend l. Holy shit.
Germany & Malaysia died for this.
What the fuck
great start
Apparently they don't want more cars to hit that bump hard.
Well off to bed
That was fun
The track needs to be inspected… is it ready?
If Sainz car was broken by a rogue manhole cover or whatever, does that mean he gets free repairs?
Well worth staying up for.
Fucking lol
Lmao
What a shit show
this weekend is already kicking off like i hoped it would.
Session won't be resumed? Embarrassing but not surprising
uhh bad omen anyone?
Welcome F1 to Vegas baby!!
Wait do they not like...check the track before the cats go out ????
Disasterclass
Well then
I got up at 4am for this shit
But why, it's just practice.
Love waking up at 4:15am for no reason
If you're waking up at 4am for a practice session, that's on you lol
I mean, if it was any other practice session, I'd agree with you. But this is Vegas, even I was excited to see how the cars fare here.
Even if you are not excited for Vegas particularly, being a new track is exciting enough to justify waking up early.
Why are you waking up at that time for a practice session lol
Shit show!
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
What a disaster
This race is gonna be so shitty I can’t wait
FOM CLOWNS

This is America.
What a shitshow but the 9 minutes if shots we got did look really nice if I am honest.
Lmao fucking disaster. Couldn’t have happened in a better country tbh
THANKS OBAMA
Yikes, embarrassing
This never happened under Trump.
Jfc
Wow that is crazy
Amazing, imagine having paid to be at the track just for this.
Well, well, well...
more like weekend cancelled
[удалено]
>Only seeing 9 minutes of action because there's a pothole on the track: ~~priceless~~ Vegas Ftfy
Open drain cover... how many more could be like this
Did none of the teams bring this up or notice during track walk?
it probably looked fine during the track walk and came loose during the session
Feel bad for the ticket holders
IT'S A YOKE
We're off to a brilliant start.
I'm worried about who has to test the rest of the track. Not to overreact, but Carlos has a destroyed car, and who will want to test the track next practice when we only got a few minutes of running. Highlights are going to be short lol
And so the shitshow begins
“I can only afford $300 for first two practice sessions, but at least I will get to see something”
