Hamilton and Verstappen are the only two guys on the grid whom teams want as badly or worse than they want teams.
Or, put another way, they have dramatically more leverage in their contracts than any other drivers (even the likes of Alonso... he's incredible still but he's burned enough bridges that he can't wag the dog as hard as the other multi-WDCs).
Bottas was on a whole series of one-year contracts, which had to be abysmal for his mental health. With Mercedes so dominant, they didn't want the seat next to Hamilton locked up or expensive to make available. So long as Bottas was good enough (and Russell wasn't deemed ready), they kept extending him, but he never had security and had an entirely different experience as a Mercedes driver than Hamilton.
It sucks massively for Bottas, but it's unfortunately perfectly rational on Mercedes' end. He was an emergency replacement for Rosberg, and never part of their long term plan. They were happy with his performance and what he did for the team, but it was very obvious he couldn't come close to Hamilton over a full season, and that's what they wanted in the second car. He absolutely had to be on his best behavior to ensure he didn't get managed out.
Yeah, I guess it just surprises me because he did his job well at Mercedes, and he and Lewis seem to be good mates, and I always felt like Toto really liked Bottas on a personal level.
You kind of see this in DTS, where he's trying to decide whether to pick up George or keep Bottas, and he definitely struggled to make that decision, because he felt Bottas was the perfect fit for the team.
But I imagine it was only a matter of time until Toto had to look towards the future, as he has to find a Hamilton replacement at some point and he was probably very worried that he was going to miss out on all the younger talent.
So I imagine a majority of this unhealthy mentality was unfortunately just Valterri putting a lot of stress on himself, along with the pressure of driving alongside an unstoppable force as a teammate and the uncertainty of one year contracts.
He and Lewis got along better than any other teammate Hamilton has had. They were honest and straightforward with each other, and neither made any attempt to start drama with the other to improve their relative position and competitiveness.
Toto was his manager from his junior days until he joined Mercedes. So Toto likes him a lot as a person. Toto is also an executive, and is expected by the other shareholders to put the best interests of the team first regardless of his feelings.
The writing was on the wall that George was a more compelling long-term option, and so long as Hamilton performs and wants to continue racing, he essentially has the safest seat on the grid besides Verstappen's. They weren't going to manage out Hamilton for Russell, and that left Bottas without a seat even if he likely was the better short-term option for Mercedes.

I feel like it's a combination of things. I think she's definitely been really good for him. They seem like a perfect match. Then you have the fact he left Mercedes and their very... Corporate atmosphere.
I think it's also self-fulfilling in that people respond to it positively, which encourages him to keep going. I think showing his body a lot is an empowerment thing, given he used to have body image issues.
As an Ålander which at times are similar to finns (we are autonomous), I'd say most of us are this way from the beginning but the problem is being too shy to show it unless drunk haha. I know I'd be doing the same thing as Bottas here if I was in his shoes.

The tan lines are definitely questionable after seeing that neon green guy. But I believe they are from cycling bibs and a chest strap fitness monitor. I think the cycling tops they wear don't protect from the sun at all, so whatever is underneath can form the tan lines.

That all makes sense. I'd completely blanked out on the heart rate monitor (I am so stupidly used to iWatches or the like tracking that kind of thing, I keep forgetting the chest bands exist).
Somehow I knew it was a heart rate monitor (maybe because I've seen soccer players wear them) but the cycling bibs I had to look up to see what they looked like to see if it matched.
The sportsbra looking things you see football players (and rugby players and lots of other team sports players) wear are more than a heartrate monitor, they also track gps data to track performance and gather data.
They do protect a bit (or at least some do), but still, riding for hours can easily leave a tan line. There's some very light mesh ones that don't protect at all, but you don't need to wear those to still get this tan line.
