You really have to appreciate the huge turnaround McLaren has had. They went from basically being sponsorless 10 years ago to probably the team with the most different sponsors now.

one factor i believe, is that Ron Dennis maintained an overinflated view of McLaren’s market value. When he left it kinda of persisted during more fallow years. It lead to them holding out for bigger blue chip sponsors and rejecting less desirable partners. Bad results led to nearly no sponsors and lots of money just coming from investors.
Zac sorted all that out. I think his American mentality was just to sell more spots for less. He also has really pushed a more approachable vibe for McLaren. The cultural difference with the Hakkinen-Hamilton years is huge.
Because they went backwards on the grid severely. There is a reason why [GP2 engine became a thing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwpiDqdugYY&pp=ygUKZ3AyIGVuZ2luZQ%3D%3D). They basically went through what Williams has been going through on terms of speed relative to the grid, with the difference that they worked hard on fixing their issues while Williams is just happy at the back of the field and has goal of ever going back to winning form.
And ya know they had the facilities. Williams have just started upgrading their facilities and now have to put aside some of their budget each year for that since Vowles came in.
Yeah they still do, but it's a shadow of its former self in that regard, mainly because a huge umbrella of Amazon -like sellers of stuff has risen in the last 10 years
Here's a tip for useful eBay searches:
Use the "-" operator, often my searches are appended with "-fits -for", etc. Gets rid of the nonsense listing, especially for automotive parts.
Yeah it’s still usable if you’re looking for something specific, but a lot worse for just finding cool things within a certain category than it used to be before it was overrun by drop shippers.
It’s all about what you are looking for. Something made five plus years ago? eBay might be a good bet. I get a lot of clothes half price or lower, some even new with tags.
Yeah I just bought a pair of brand new sneakers for half retail in a fairly rare colour way. I’ve never had any problems using eBay, both buying and selling
What are you shopping for on eBay that isn’t matching your ideal outcome?
I’m a relatively heavy user and I don’t really understand the complaints like this.
It does get annoying that eBay pushes and focuses on new merchandise so much when I’m there primarily for used, older items.
Also when I’m looking for a specific item and the same one that I don’t want comes up over and over again because it’s sponsored, gets really annoying. Happens with clothing and jewelry where it’s difficult to be specific. The same item being listed at multiple price points and the seller does it with multiple items.
The 10000000x listings of the same product from China, supposedly from local sellers, that have 2-3 week shipping times?
It's 99.99% business sellers, rather than a car boot sale for people too lazy to get out of bed at 06:00, which is what it used to be like.
Naa man eBay is solid, i always find items cheaper than Amazon, and free shipping, and its a heaven for Open box items that is backed up paypal money back Guarantee, from legit veteran sellers not just any sellers, where Amazon you are on your own if bought from third party seller.
Nah eBay is better than Amazon. I honestly love buying and selling on eBay. I’ve sold £700 of used car parts on eBay this month and I’ve got some decent deals on products I’ve bought.
It’s really funny seeing these reactions to eBay. I started my business there about 4 years ago, and last year did about $450k of $610k on eBay — all “Business and Industrial”, not consumer goods, predominantly because the *buyer* fraud rate is so high in popular consumer categories.
I will criticize them all day on their growing fee structure (nearly 14% for most users now) but they are nothing compared to Amazon, and have equal if not better buyer protections, and infinitely better seller protections (in other words, ANY seller protections). Thankfully I’ve built up a large enough customer base where about 50% this year have bought direct, but those customers were largely acquired via eBay.
A friend of mine does about $3M/yr, mostly on Amazon, and just about much breaks even - they take about 30-40% of each sale, and you must have a no questions asked return policy. If you see something being sold on Amazon, the company/seller is sacrificing nearly all their margin just to have placement on Amazon; better to sell something just above cost than nothing at all. I guarantee you’re more likely to be sold a junk/fake product on Amazon - it simply doesn’t make sense for many legitimate retailers to sell on Amazon.
used to work for an agency that managed paid eBay and Amazon listings. the profit margin difference between the two is actually insane. All of my clients offered cheaper prices on eBay with free shipping and still had a better margin than Amazon. I'm in the habit of checking eBay first before I buy from Amazon as usually you'll get better prices.
Yeah that’s the very straightforward explanation for anytime someone asks why a certain brand isn’t on Amazon — but of course a knockoff version usually is, including Amazon’s own, “Amazon Basics” brand.
My friend I mentioned is predominantly selling on Amazon in order to get attention from larger brands, as he would prefer a buyout once they have enough reach.
Na eBay is better than Amazon now by far. I’ve been ordering all the stuff I would usually get off Amazon from eBay now. It’s cheaper and ships just as fast.
Like everyone, I tend to subconsciously think advertising doesn’t work on me. Also, I saw this news and immediately thought “who still uses eBay?”
But now without quite meaning to I’ve just read like 100 posts discussing eBay, their strengths and weaknesses relative to Amazon and so on and suddenly thought: “whoa, eBay already got their money’s worth from this deal.”
It’s weird to realize that advertising works on people and I am, in fact, one of those people.
My account got banned without any explanation other than I violated some rules, never even bought anything or put something up for sale. Just kept it me logged in every now and then just so it wouldn’t be deleted. I then tried to make 2 more accounts, two new email addresses, same shit. I got the accounts banned a few minutes after creating them. Support never offered an actual reason or explanation on what I did wrong.
Red Bull controversy, Mclaren announces a new sponsor, Ferrari hyping something up that will probably end up in a dissappointment.
Sounds like a tuesday.
I don't get why everyone shits on eBay lol I get lots of good stuff from there. Marketplace is definitely cheaper but eBay just has whatever you need. Also if you have a credit card you can charge back stuff that is a scam if you ever encounter one lol
Marketplace is terrible outside of the USA where it's maybe tolerable at best. Every region has different popularity with online purchasing platforms. Japan is Yahoo Auctions (which is a cheat code for Western collectors of technology). Australia's marketplace-like platform is largely Gumtree (owned by eBay and designed to compete with itself). I'd be surprised if Marketplace is the go-to in Europe, but I haven't spent enough time in recent years there to know that.
eBay is the platform that is geared more in favour of the customer. Which is the grind point for sellers. But at the end of the day, sellers are motivated. Buyers are what you need to capture. So eBay will likely continue to be successful due to this.
I'm Canadian and we have Kijiji, but Kijiji sucks nowadays so everyone uses Marketplace and Marketplace is honestly great, at least where I live.
I just prefer eBay because it comes to my door and I don't have to potentially drive 100km+ for something lol. And I've never personally been scammed
Not really they are forced to put Mercedes branding on their car as they are using their engine. If Zack had an option he probably would put some other sponsor on there 😂
McLaren can end the partnership at the next cycle but sign a contract to buy the engines at a higher cost and then re-badge them with a different sponsor. But with the price difference per engine vs dealing with another engine brand that isn't getting a single technical aspect on the engine being used... It's just not really worth it when McLaren and Mercedes have a relatively stable and amicable relationship.

How did McLaren lose their sponsors, they were a championship winning team before right? I'm new to f1 so I don't know about it.
one factor i believe, is that Ron Dennis maintained an overinflated view of McLaren’s market value. When he left it kinda of persisted during more fallow years. They still had more sponsors than Mercedes who pretty much survived off Petronas, Blackberry, and Pirelli in the early hybrid era. /s
I mean, I'm *aware* of it. I wouldn't say I appreciate it
Gotta cash em all
McLaren Racing announces Pokémon as an Official Partner.
So that's where they're pawning off Malukas.
I was wondering.
I miss the golden era of Ebay when it was just people selling their junk. Now it's more like a shittier Amazon.
Lol...It's just Amazon...with extra steps.
And the coupon codes they do for ‘selected sellers’ never apply to the seller you wish to buy from.
EBay has a ton of great finds from smaller sellers
Yeah they still do, but it's a shadow of its former self in that regard, mainly because a huge umbrella of Amazon -like sellers of stuff has risen in the last 10 years
Only if you can actually find them when you search while digging thorough the six gazillion flippers selling stuff.
Why are you digging instead of using the search bar?
Because the search is as useful as google search
I don't agree the eBay filters work quite well. It's just a PITA to use them all the time
Here's a tip for useful eBay searches: Use the "-" operator, often my searches are appended with "-fits -for", etc. Gets rid of the nonsense listing, especially for automotive parts.
Maybe if you’re a literal ape
I'm only half-joking, because google has made their SEO worse over the last couple of years...
I will only buy used stuff on Ebay, I've gotten some great golf gear off of Ebay
Works fine for me
They do but the filtering is absolute trash.
Yeah it’s still usable if you’re looking for something specific, but a lot worse for just finding cool things within a certain category than it used to be before it was overrun by drop shippers.

Amazon is trash now unless you like buying from AXECHR or EUGGUGK
Then next week they'll disappear and be replaced by BXECHR and FUGGUGK
What are you shopping for on eBay that isn’t matching your ideal outcome? I’m a relatively heavy user and I don’t really understand the complaints like this.
For real. I’m into cameras and used watches. eBay is great. You just need to do your due diligence.
It does get annoying that eBay pushes and focuses on new merchandise so much when I’m there primarily for used, older items. Also when I’m looking for a specific item and the same one that I don’t want comes up over and over again because it’s sponsored, gets really annoying. Use the filters.
eBay Certified Refurb is where it is at.
Naa man eBay is solid, i always find items cheaper than Amazon, and free shipping, and its a heaven for Open box items that is backed up paypal money back Guarantee, from legit veteran sellers not just any sellers, where Amazon you are on your own if bought from third party seller.
Unlike Amazon, Ebay actually shows me garbage in stock.
Unlike Amazon, eBay actually has proper search and filters.
Sorting by price+shipping is actually goat. Idk why AliExpress or similar doesn't do that and make me do math myself.
Nah eBay is better than Amazon. I honestly love buying and selling on eBay. I’ve sold £700 of used car parts on eBay this month and I’ve got some decent deals on products I’ve bought.
Filter by "used" or "auction" and you cut out all the Chinese dropshipped rubbish.
ebay is better than Amazon in about every way besides a few extra days of ship time. real ones know

Unless you need customer support, and then you're fucked...
I love ebay for buying shoes lol
Hard disagree. It's one of the best platforms out there right now.
Lots of scams too!
Na eBay is better than Amazon now by far. I’ve been ordering all the stuff I would usually get off Amazon from eBay now. It’s cheaper and ships just as fast.

FOE YOUR RIDE OR DIE!
It got away too expensive to sell stuff there, eBay fee plus PayPal fee made it not worth it
I hate facebook, but facebook marketplace is one of the last bastions of selling shit you want to get rid of locally.
My account got banned without any explanation other than I violated some rules, never even bought anything or put something up for sale. Wake up dear, your weekly McLaren sponsor has arrived.
McLaren is the car with most sponsors, right??
[Chick Hicks vibes](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BZDg5YTM3ODgtZmNhMS00MjcwLTg4YzUtNTc2NDRmZTY0ZTZhXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTMwMTgyMzQz._V1_.jpg)
I saw this news on my Yahoo homepage. I will share it on Myspace account
Yahoo Finance is honestly really good
Are you still using internet explorer?
I still use Netscape Navigator
The GOAT browser.
Sucker. I got Netscape Navigator **Pro** from Limewire/WinMx/Morpheus for free.
That's way too high tech. I prefer Lynx
eBay is making hundreds of millions in profit per year with less than 100 employees. I don't think you can compare it to myspace and yahoo :)
Yahoo Japan has its own auction website. Billions of USD in revenue.
Sir this is Reddit.
McLaren leading in the Sponsors Cup.
Red Bull controversy, Mclaren announces a new sponsor, Ferrari hyping something up that will probably end up in a dissappointment. Sounds like a tuesday.
Does that mean they'll be buying parts off eBay for the next car?
Better than Excel
No no Excel is where you keep track of the parts you bought on eBay
eBay Motors is good enough for McLaren
Oh man that livery is going to look even more convoluted now.
They might match the Google Chrome wheels
Chrome front and Ebay rear wheel covers from Miami onwards lol
Even easier, you just say the wheels are now Chrome/Ebay wheels.
James: Hey Zak, could you please, ask your buddies at eBay if there is a chassis on sale for a reasonable price?
Ends up receiving a picture of an F1 chassis
If it was a detailed picture of the Red Bull floor, that would be OK
I don't get why everyone shits on eBay lol I get lots of good stuff from there. Marketplace is definitely cheaper but eBay just has whatever you need. Also if you have a credit card you can charge back stuff that is a scam if you ever encounter one lol

At this point I'm just waiting for the announcement that another F1 Team sponsors McLaren.
Mercedes does that already
Not really they are forced to put Mercedes branding on their car as they are using their engine. If Zack had an option he probably would put some other sponsor on there 😂

Adrian newey money
Guesses on which brand they'll sign a deal with next ?
ToysRUs
AOL
That's how the get Adrian
I don't think you can sell/buy people through Ebay
Anything's possible with a high enough bid
Good driver, would buy again.
McLaren are collecting sponsors like Thanos collected the infinity stones.
Another day, another sponsor for McLaren
A++ would sprint again
Another day, another partner.
Yawn, wake me up when they're selling Lando Pez dispensers
Dammit! Why is this something I never would have considered but now NEED!
I hope this comes with McLaren selling old parts on eBay for HASS to buy.
Think Williams are more in need than Haas right now!
eBay actually has a pretty decent motor parts business
At some point they will run out of space on that car...
Bring back the shark fin F-duct. Just for the space.
Zak Brown can't stop winning.
Ebay still kicks ass for car parts and golf clubs
Our man Zak continues getting some big ass sponsors
hear me out: when microsoft turns windows back to the old 4-color logo, zak will snatch it too
It wasn't that long ago the side of a McLaren was mostly empty space. Quite the turnaround.
I assume they will be purchasing all parts from eBay auto now?
Someone should tell them the gas saver is a scam
And then there’s rumors of Mastercard trying to be the main sponsor
Fred and Zac both collecting infinity stones
Is this so Lando can bid on a win?
Time to get Newey. Let's get Lando a win!
It‘s going to look like a harlequin car soon enough
eBay Certified Refurbished Should be on the Front Wing.
No more eInk display panels then where they had been trialing those?
