Is Leclerc now generally accepted as the best qualifier on the grid? I think his raw qualifying pace is definitely unmatched and the way he pushes the car to the absolute limit and sometimes beyond is Senna like. He has 24 pole positions and had the most poles out of anyone in 2019 and 2022. Max does have more poles but I think most of his recent ones can generally be attributed to a simple car advantage, however you can tell when it’s Max that made the difference and not the car like in Imola. He also has pulled out some magical sectors and laps like Monaco 23 etc. So I’m not sure it’s def either one of the two as best qualifier, I’m biased but I’d say Leclerc is the best at qualifying.
On raw speed, Leclerc was always considered as the fastest qualifier on the grid, but not the best overall because he have a hard time putting that lap together
