A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

This always bothered me (ironically with your username lol), shouldnāt it be a Perez sandwich? We name sandwiches after the fillings donāt we? Every time Crofty says X is in a team sandwich this thought keeps coming back to me
On the other hand, usually it's a given that bread makes the upper and lower layers. Maybe that's why we don't say "chicken bread sandwich" and just say "cheese sandwich". In this case, there's no bread in the Haas (I hope)
Barcelona is still the litmus test for a championship challenge but that Mclaren is good everywhere and I canāt be happier
If Ferrari and hopefully Mercedes can consistently dice race-in/race-out it should be a fun season even if the championship is decided early
Really the lucky break is that Ferrari and McLaren are both good this year, and will probably scrap and take points from each other for most of the season. If it was just one challenging team RBR would probably be P2 right now.
I went on board and watched both Russell and Lewis' last laps. Lewis didn't noticeably do anything wrong on his lap. They both were a tenth off their fastest laps they set on used sets which makes no sense. Merc will be extremely disappointed. Lewis was on it the entire qualifying but didn't do it when it mattered most.
Wind on both Merc final laps, coupled with Russell getting a tow on his pole lap, might be some useful context. Stonking lap by Russell and all but thatās why they didnāt improve at the end
Biggest ooft for Lewis "bottling" it is starting 7th. He has to get past Alonso and two McLarens which have been very racy to even get into the midst of the battle at the front.
In all likelihood he's going to be like 10 secs behind the leading pack by lap 10 and hope for a SC. Going to be a frustrating race for him isn't it.
You do realise the two McLarens ARE part of the battle at the front? They're front runners on pure merit.
The arrogance to dismiss them like they're cars that are out of position and in Lewis's way is wild.
Tows around Montreal are not worth more than a tenth. At most it dragged him ahead of Verstappen and Norris. He would have been ahead of Lewis even without it.
Without the tow, he would still have been around two seconds faster than Lewis. Given how close the top 7 were that's a fair chunk of time. The point is the tow did not account for even half of the gap between them.
If you actually check the telemetry it's clear it isnt. Lewis went with a lower df setup so he was gaining a bit of time on the straight (about half a tenth it seems, looking at the telemetry). On the back straight the gap grows from about .050 in Russells favor to .150 because of the tow. So essentially the tow is 1-1.5 tenths.

Australians all let us rejoice for we are 4th and 5th
Even better than that they are surrounded by people who can drive clean. And Sainz and Stroll are a ways back!
I actually sung that, absolute banger š
We're number four (and five)!! We're number four (and five)!!
In a commonwealth country. God save the king and all that.
Perez in a Haas sandwich
This always bothered me (ironically with your username lol), shouldnāt it be a Perez sandwich? We name sandwiches after the fillings donāt we? Every time Crofty says X is in a team sandwich this thought keeps coming back to me
Perez in a HAAS spit roast
I suppose "Magnessun and Hulkenberg making a Perez sandwich" would work but outside of that "a Perez sandwich" doesn't really make sense in my head
The bread is called Haas ;)
āHaas is the bread in a Perez sandwichā? Or is that too much of a mouthful?
Instructions unclear. Now Perez is in my mouth
But is it a Perez Sandwich or a Perez Burger?
On the other hand, usually it's a given that bread makes the upper and lower layers. Maybe that's why we don't say "chicken bread sandwich" and just say "cheese sandwich". In this case, there's no bread in the Haas (I hope)
Perez sandwich on Haas bread?
Where have I seen this before?.. š¤
Zhouās thoughts exactly.
Perez v Magnussen pt 2
If he dies, he dies
Oh no not again lmao
Perez should have signed with alpine because he is about to be Eiffel Towered
Haas + Perez crash 2.0 Electric boogaloo
Ocon ā ļø
Don't worry he's nowhere near Gasly this time
You mean he's extra motivated to reach himš
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
itās been tough this season after getting used to yuki jumping 2-3 spots on most starts last year
DR!!! Noice
Jacques Villeneuve must have motivated him lol
What were Redbull smoking with that two year extension?
Perez merch sales probably
Mexican cigar
Slims
Giggles
Dammit, you beat me to it
Ask the coco pops enjoyer
Horner wants his guy there, itās all part of the internal politics of the team. Definitely not performance related.
Fun fact: Last 2 races George was off 0.001s to Sainz P5 in Imola and 0.001s behind P4 to Norris in Monaco. He finally found that missing 0.001s.
Barcelona is still the litmus test for a championship challenge but that Mclaren is good everywhere and I canāt be happier If Ferrari and hopefully Mercedes can consistently dice race-in/race-out it should be a fun season even if the championship is decided early
Checo will cost them the WCC
They got lucky that Ferrari qualified poorly today tbh
Really the lucky break is that Ferrari and McLaren are both good this year, and will probably scrap and take points from each other for most of the season. If it was just one challenging team RBR would probably be P2 right now.
Luck comes and goes. Sainz was lucky to not be P20 on merit in Monaco
For this year and 2 more to come
Perez proving he deserves that Red Bull seat once again.
Nice Perez, good job buddy
This race is gonna be very spicy, especially at the start. I'm hoping it actually rains too for some extra drama.
Forecast is for thunderstorms
McLaren 1 2 when George claims max "turned into him" and fucks them both. Let's go
Canāt believe I missed qualifying.
Rough outing for Ferrari š

Lewis didn't even do any errors on his lap he just lacked confidence really...
Russell got a tow, will be interesting to see how long he holds on tomorrow
Tows around Montreal are not worth more than a tenth. At most it dragged him ahead of Verstappen and Norris. He would have been ahead of Lewis even without it.
There's five cars between them, that 'at most' is nearly half the amount of cars.
Without the tow, he would still have been around two seconds faster than Lewis. Given how close the top 7 were that's a fair chunk of time. The point is the tow did not account for even half of the gap between them.
Russell was 0.026 slower without the tow on the second run. The tow was insignificant.
The tow still got him pole.
Shame the comment chain is about Rus v Ham then.
They way they have been flirting with (and kissing) the Wall of Champions I feel there has to be a safety car tomorrow.
He didnāt bottle it. Russell got a tow.
What was that tank slapper at the wall of champions?
Tow is not worth almost 3 tenths here. In fact it's less than a tenth. He didn't bottle it. It's just a reflection of his current form
Pete Bonnington told him the tow was three tenths. Argue with his engineer.
He lied to make him happy Edit: downvote all you want, fact is you don't lose 3 tenths without a tow
He was still faster in his second run without a tow. The excuses after every bad quali performance for Hamilton are getting tired.
Who did he get a tow from? I missed that
Albon on the second last run. Lewis didnāt say a word to Pete Bonnington all lap. Lewis is already done.
Albon in the first run
albon
Lewis was up almost 2 tenths in S1, up a tenth in S2 and lost it all in S3 cause Russell got a tow to the line
He was down 0.017 after S2, I donāt know where are you pulling those tenths from
Well that's complete nonesense. He was up 2 tenths on the previous best time, not George's.
I don't think a tow can gain you almost 3 tenths mate.
do we know which side is better to start from?
Actually think it depends how far back on the grid you are because of the weird line the drivers take down the straight
Lewis threw front row I think, mercs had pace in dry. Anyone knows how race will be wet or dry or transitional
Isn't the first slot on the other side?
Imo not the best layout decision to alternate sides, my eyes bugged out for a second seeing Sargeant in the first column lol
If Danny Ric can finish with similar results like this and Perez shitting the bed continues surely they look for a change even after extension?
I'm scared of what Hamilton might do at the start
