Oscar and George being less than 10 points behind Perez is at the same time impressive from them and so embarrassing for Perez
But yeah it’s mostly embarrassing lmao
I don't understand how Red Bull is remotely fine with this. Even with sponsorship money it's hard to see the logic in this. Guess I don't have the fucked up logic of a rich billionaire who fucks up the hard work of people that actually know what they're doing.
I assume Checo's contract allows him to be swapped with RB drivers like what happened with Gasly and Albon back when they were in RBR/RB. I wonder if they'll let Yuki drive for RBR tho
I don't think RBR would gamble a 2-year contract with Checo if there weren't an exit strategy. Hope that clause is in there to let other drivers have a shot at RBR.
I think it has to do with Max. There is clearly a dynamic within the team that's leading to him being dominant, and I'd be pretty reticent to disrupt that if I were RBR leadership.
i'm of the opinion that the red bull isn't all that great it's just max driving it on the limit almost 100% of the time because he's a freak
combined with checo being a solid *midfield* driver and there ya go
That's a fine joke if I ever saw one. If a driver can't over drive a car, clearly the car's real potential is shown by Verstappen.
You can't be serious about talking big about the RBR team being peak and at the same time conveniently put the car down as being midfield car the way Perez drives it.
The whole of this season is everyone saying that RBR is peak driver with peak car and pitstops and design. There's no way the RBR is the 4th best car on the grid.
Don’t believe the echo chamber, Max is a generational talent but the the current car is very close to McLaren where I think the latter has the edge.
Fortunately for all of us the rest isn’t far behind
Edit which is literally what I was saying with my first comment
But god forbid Red Bull giving Gasly, a 23y lad at the time, in his third F1 season, more patience than a 12-race stint in the teaam, and Albon, also a 23y bloke at the time, after having competed in only 12 F1 races in his career with Toro Rosso, more patience than one and a half season with the main team.
Just for context, Pérez is 34y in his 14th consecutive year in F1, and is currently in his 4th season with Red Bull, having recently extended his contract for 2 more years after this one.
Yeah, his strategy - of driving into others - actually worked. It’s always worked, actually.
EDIT: Everyone answering below Lando is not the cleanest, where did I claim that? And by the way, in all fairness, when Lando did dive bomb, and was “dirty”, he gave the position back immediately.
I mean its a bit too close to say now ofc, but i kinda liked the rule they had in 21. Lewis and Max only title contenders: if we see someone punting someone off on purpose, it means high penalty.
it's pretty crazy that nicking someone's rear tyre by veering slightly more left then he should've is classed as 'driving into others', if that's the case then Ocon tried to kill Gasly in Monaco and Hamilton tried to kill Alonso in Miami.
I know people hate outcome based penalties but I really think they need to introduce them. Because just using “10 seconds for causing a collision” every time makes causing a crash if you’re going to be overtaken a viable strategy.
This is also the first time Checo has ended up ahead of anyone else from the top 4 teams since Miami
- 8th in Imola (all ahead)
- DNF in Monaco
- DNF in Canada
- 8th in Spain (all ahead)
- 8th in Austria Sprint (all ahead)
- 7th in Austria (Leclerc 11th after damage and 2 extra stops, Lando DNF)
See this is why crashes are great because now Lando is still only 6 points ahead of Charles instead of 31.
With the amazing new Ferrari upgrades coming in Silverstone (let me live in denial please i’m pretending Barcelona upgrades never happened. never heard of any accelerated package??) Ferrari will easily be back on top and Charles will re-overtake Lando!!
Max gaining more points because of the incident than he would have done beating Lando in P1.
Also George, Oscar and Lewis are coming up on Perez very quickly.
Yep. 81 points lead and with how often Ferrari/Merc and McLaren are taking points off each other it's pretty much over barring several failures in a row for Max.
I think that Lando fucked up by going as fast as he did after they had their accident. It seems like he destroyed his whole car with the puncture. I don't think there was much damage from the clash itself, but I could be wrong.
Gasly gets points and finishes ahead of Ocon for a 4th race in a row, love to see it.
Piastri will finish 3rd if some small details which are usually against him start going his way. You could say the same for Leclerc of course (regarding luck) but I believe McLaren will be consistently better than Ferrari.
> Piastri will finish 3rd if some small details which are usually against him start going his way. You could say the same for Leclerc of course (regarding luck) but I believe McLaren will be consistently better than Ferrari.
Charles used up all his good juju to win his hometown race
Damn it, Lewis messing it up in the one race he would've been rewarded for staying in the running. I'm 99% certain something like this isn't gonna happen in Silverstone or the Hungaroring. Disappointing, should've just kept ahead of Sainz instead of letting him by.
He let him by because he was being investigated for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. I honestly thought he’d pass Sainz back but I guess he was just a little too fast.
Man it's really unlikely Lewis beats George now, can't help but think of what might have been if Lewis did not have to give the place back to Sainz. But fair play to George he's been fantastic this year
If Lando had won, the table wouldn’t have changed much at all. Lando deserved the win today after a poor performance from the Red Bull pit crew. Gutted for Lando here. Also, that 10s penalty is a joke, Max should have gotten a drive through there

Russell especially since Mercedes were so far back at the start of the season.
I don't understand how Red Bull is remotely fine with this. Even with sponsorship money it's hard to see the logic in this. Guess I don't have the fucked up logic of a rich billionaire who fucks up the hard work of people that actually know what they're doing.
Maybe it's just desperation. We already had this situation a few times and it happened every time.
Today we saw what would happen every weekend if Red Bull had hired a competent second driver.
I know, it's just a thing that everyone here used to believe that Checo is 100% going to be that driver.
I assume Checo's contract allows him to be swapped with RB drivers like what happened with Gasly and Albon back when they were in RBR/RB. I wonder if they'll let Yuki drive for RBR tho
Checo's current contract doesn't allow for that, but it's very possible/likely his extension does.
I don't think RBR would gamble a 2-year contract with Checo if there weren't an exit strategy. Hope that clause is in there to let other drivers have a shot at RBR.
I guess Checo brings in more money with sponsors and hats than the difference between 1st and 2nd in the wcc
I think it has to do with Max. There is clearly a dynamic within the team that's leading to him being dominant, and I'd be pretty reticent to disrupt that if I were RBR leadership.

At this rate, both of them will definitely beat Perez. They are competing for podiums while Perez is trying to avoid getting lapped by Max
There is a high chance they will both be in front of him next weekend in the standings.
They should just change drivers during the summer break and check if Tsunoda can do do a better job at Red Bull.
Or the car isn’t that good as some think
Perez puts the car 0,1 in front of haas. Max is a way better pointer of the redbulls speed than perez, he is just slow
That's a fine joke if I ever saw one. If a driver can't over drive a car, clearly the car's real potential is shown by Verstappen. You can't be serious about talking big about the RBR team being peak and at the same time conveniently put the car down as being midfield car the way Perez drives it.
Where did I say RBR is peak?
The whole of this season is everyone saying that RBR is peak driver with peak car and pitstops and design. There's no way the RBR is the 4th best car on the grid.

Redbull is the better car than Mercedes. Mclaren are close but still redbull are better
Checo is still ahead of the mercs in the ranking. I don’t think the Redbull is better than the Mclaren.
He got passed on track.. by a Haas.
This is about his position over the season, not claiming he is a top F1 talent.
Yeah, Max is a good 4s/lap faster than everyone else.
He isn’t
Perez is going to finish 8th
Came to comment exactly this. Consistently the worst driver of the top 4 teams.
*Imma fight for the WDC* *damn the Haas got hands*
I got second hand embarrassment when the Haas passed him on the last lap.
At least Max didnt lap him
We're not talking about him not being in the top 2. He's quickly slipping to be the last of the top 4 teams.
He will be 7th after the next round as long as Oscar and George don't suffer from any bad luck
Yup. He's probably going to be 7th after the next race.
Breaking Verstappen record of the worst WDC teammate.
I think pay drivers of the 80s and 70s got that title instead of a rookie
He's lucky Aston is shite, because he could've potentially finished 9th.
With a WCC car
Max extended his lead by more than if he had won the race with Lando second.
They can't finish close to you in standings if they can't finish the race.
Great job by Max.
Two-time unlucky with the pit stops, wouldn’t have been in any trouble if it weren’t for that.
And not having new mediums. RBR strategy and pitcrew dropped the ball this weekend
hope they keep doing it, Max will still win, and we get excitement
Yeah, his strategy - of driving into others - actually worked. It’s always worked, actually. EDIT: Everyone answering below Lando is not the cleanest, where did I claim that? And by the way, in all fairness, when Lando did dive bomb, and was “dirty”, he gave the position back immediately.
I mean it’s not like Norris was the epitome of clean w2w today, though I agree Verstappen’s at fault for that crash
Oh yea Lando is the definition of clean driving.
He gave the position back because he would be forced to by stewards. That's not a show of good sportsmanship.
Tell that to Checo or Sainz
I know people hate outcome based penalties but I really think they need to introduce them. Because just using “10 seconds for causing a collision” every time makes causing a crash if you’re going to be overtaken a viable strategy.
Only if you can assure that you won't get significant damage
5D chess
Just wreck out the competition, not too dissimilar from 2021
Truly embarrassing from Perez
Leclerc finished 16secs behind while doing 2 extra pit stops
This is also the first time Checo has ended up ahead of anyone else from the top 4 teams since Miami - 8th in Imola (all ahead) - DNF in Monaco - DNF in Canada - 8th in Spain (all ahead) - 8th in Austria Sprint (all ahead) - 7th in Austria (Leclerc 11th after damage and 2 extra stops, Lando DNF)
And with a busted front wing that took him out of the points
Embarrassing for leclerc tbh /s
He was unable to pass a Haas.... He maybe be the Minister of defense but passing people is not his strong suite
Minister of Merch sales
So Ricciardo and Yuki have been doing well, but I remember Lawson being promised a seat… SO WHY THE FUCK DONT THEY JUST SACK PEREZ TABARNAK???
On a trouvé le québécois 🤣
Checo officially became a ghost. Buddy will not survive Oscar and George if he keeps driving like this.
He won’t even survive Hamilton
The guy is going to end up in 8th place by Spa and Russell and Piastri will overtake him in the next 2 races.
Its funny none of the top 3 had a good race today
Charles with that busted front wing, Lando and Max with that everything.
We should refer to it as top 4 now. Merc is stronger
OP meant top 3 drivers in the WDC
Man at this point Perez finishing 8th is not just a possibility, it is a probability. This is just depressing
8th place finish for Perez is looking more likely
It took until the last day of June, but Ollie Bearman is FINALLY doing as good in F2 than F1. P14 in both standings thanks to Hulk's points
Points in the last 5 races Verstappen 93 Perez 14
Max has this championship in the bag still but with any luck next year is a proper fight.
Max has this year locked up but the WCC is far more open. Seems like we're seeing more volatility this year.
Max driving like theres a 5 point gap
Perez is so gonna finish P7/8
Max actually made a bigger gap because of this result 7(6 if norris fastest lap) point increase if max would've finished 1st and now its 10 points
Alsono stole fastest lap out of boredom so he wasn't getting that.
Honestly I can’t deny I was a little happy that Alonso took that point away
Maxterclass. Killing Norris and extending the lead on Norris and Leclerc.
Just like Hamilton at Silverstone 2021
That was a 25 point swing at silverstone which was even more insane. This was just a 4 point swing as max was 1st and lands second w fastest lap.
Yeah feels unfair but if they don’t change the rules it will happen
Gap between Russell and Hamilton doubled today (13 to 26 points)
Yeah that will be trouble for Lewis. Just a bad day all around for him.
Both Piastri and Russell should take care of Checo by next race. What a struggler. lol
Isn't it surprising Ferrari is still 2nd after all the s**t that happened since Montreal?
Wow George needed that. Really gets him back in the thick of things. What a June for he and Merc (considering the vibe after Canada).
Only thing am interested in this stats is seeing Perez tumble from 2nd to 8th before season ends!
Verstappen's friendship with Norris took a bigger knock than his WDC chances.
Ooof, nearly a 100 point gap. Norris needs to win basically every race from here to win the WDC. Realistically it’s probably already over.
Max actually extended his lead more like this than by finishing 1-2 3d chess
Happy Leclerc is still only 6 points back to second place in the standings after this shitty weekend. I hope Ferrari finds a fix for the SF24 quickly.
hurts as a leclerc fan. I'd like to think Lec has better race pace than Sainz, so a win was on the table.
See this is why crashes are great because now Lando is still only 6 points ahead of Charles instead of 31. With the amazing new Ferrari upgrades coming in Silverstone (let me live in denial please i’m pretending Barcelona upgrades never happened. never heard of any accelerated package??) Why is Mercedes in Aston color

Oscar and George gunning hard for that 5th spot
man if max was taken out and lando survived the contact that would have been a big meaningful swing
Watch Checo end up 8th in a few races.
Carlos would likely be P3 in championship if he didnt miss Jeddah!
Damn it, Lewis messing it up in the one race he would've been rewarded for staying in the running. I'm 99% certain something like this isn't gonna happen in Silverstone or the Hungaroring. Disappointing, should've just kept ahead of Sainz instead of letting him by.

well, Lewis is just one win away from the guy in front of him... and after all the next race is silverstone :P
Would need a George DNF as well though, which is the issue
Bearman 14th sum up how this point system is broken.
Max playing 4D chess
This race awakened Max 2021, and along it his critics I love it
Perez gonna finish 8th with Max winning WDC
How did everyone here forget the damage to Perez's car?
another run away championship from max this year yawn
If Lando had won, the table wouldn’t have changed much at all. Lando deserved the win today after a poor performance from the Red Bull pit crew. Gutted for Lando here. Also, that 10s penalty is a joke, Max should have gotten a drive through there
Even if he passed Max without incident he got 5s penalty. So it would be still 2nd place for Lando
Give him points penalty
Might sound unlikely at this point but I wouldn't be surprised if Alonso also passed Perez when the season is over.
The fact that Max caused the collision, and extended his lead even more makes me sad lol
That's not a first on that racing series
