My girlfriend loves SUVs because:
1) higher driving position gives you more area awareness
2) higher suspension makes it easier to drive the car on a curb (or make it less terminal, if you do it by accident - not that it never happened to my gf, lol)
3) more spacious - not that she uses the space
4) better looking - arguably
Nah, for ultimate all-around car I prefer some AWD station wagon with beefy 300+HP engine. More flexible, more useful and more fun to drive than SUV.
His wife wanted an SUV but he was too concerned about the safety of them as they have a bad reputation for rolling over since high centre of gravity. Instead he opted for a minivan instead which people make fun of him for since you don't expect such a masculine looking guy to be driving a family van.
Mainly Porsche I guess, who set a trend with the Cayenne. Fitting that we'll get them as manufacturers too now, we'll have electric Cayenne turbo GT2RS Weissach packages as safety cars by 2026
Porsche were just following the market, the ML and X5 arguably kicked off the luxury sporty SUV trend in the late 90s. But even that was in response to US demand for domestic SUVs like the Jeep Cherokee and Ford Explorer.
+1 to the fuck SUV train.
Saloons all the way. *Maybe* estates; the M340i estate looks *niice*.
That said, I wish the RS6 came in a saloon variant; would love to track both it and the M5 CS for the lulz.
Or when they're coming the other way, and me in my appropriately proportioned hatchback gets blinded by their stupid poorly adjusted eye-level fucking floodlight strength headlights.
Even in my work Ute which is at a standard 4x4/SUV height they are blinding. Toyotas seem to be the worst offenders. Every morning i am blinded as i leave for work.
i grew up in the rural midwest in the USA and one of the most annoying things about driving a car instead of a truck/suv is that you simply can't see around you half the time. and most truck/suvs drivers are completely, totally oblivious to that.
it's a huge issue when they are next to you and you are trying to pull out onto the road. you literally cannot see if there's traffic.
Are you me? My commute to work is mostly lovely single lane roads and almost always there’s the inevitable SUV or CUV going far too slow holding up traffic. I think my GTI has just made me more impatient because every minute stuck behind an SUV is a minute of fun lost.
Hahaha the roads I go on aren't single lanes and there's always a bloody SUV parked in the passing lane. I've been wanting to upgrade to a GTI or R but they're crazy expensive
I consider myself very lucky I bought my GTI a couple of months before the pandemic started. It definitely wasn’t the best financial decision at the time, but considering all it can do, and the joy it bring me every time I get behind the wheel, it’s been well worth it. It’s downright therapeutic at times.
The R is priced crazy now, for that money you could get an S3, and why wouldn’t you?
Same story here, got a GTI with under 10k mikes on it for a great price just before the pandemic, but a little bit of a stretch for me financially still. I’m reminded how worth it it was every time I get in the seat and it feels like I’m wearing the car.
The trade-in value on KBB today is listed at a few thousand dollars more than when I bought it a few years ago, it’s baffling
I live in a small village with a single-lane road to get to it. Every so often there are passing places you can reverse to to let other cars past. Every year the holiday makers come and they're famous for not being able to reverse very well. SUV drivers however are on another level, they seem to have no control of their vehicles at all. It's scary. They'll sit there refusing to reverse at first, even though there are three cars behind me (so i can't reverse). Then they'll angrily accept they have to reverse, and that's when the wild sawing at the steering wheel starts, as they damage their front bumper on the hedge, in their multiple attempts to reverse along the road.
It really seems like the average type of person who chooses an SUV is also a terrible driver.
You’re telling me you don’t want an SUV? They’re great if you want a car that is slower, heavier, turns worse, brakes longer, higher centre of gravity, larger corner blind spots, brings more energy into collisions, all for a marginal perceived increase of interior space
Volvo V60, V90, and Subaru Outback. But yeah I do wish others like BMW and Audi still sold theirs here. Volvo recently took the normal station wagons off the market in the Americas - left the uglier and 3 inch higher V60 "Cross Country" available. Shame on them.
Not a dad and I'm about to move from a Saturn Astra (Opel/Vauxhall/Holden outside of the US) to a GR Corolla, if I get lucky. My oldest video on YouTube is my brother tray drifting a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon.
Love the stationwagon life.
I think the problem is that this AM car has a relatively high center of gravity. They want to market these ridiculous sports SUVs which are for some bizarre reason selling very well.
I hate them too but they sell well because most people are going to just buy one car and they want one that's sporty and can fit everything. Also they tend to be old so their bad knees are gonna feel a lot better slipping into a higher seat than bending down into a sedan/hatchback. Not to mention there is now this M.A.D. race of everyone and their dogs getting bigger and bigger vehicles to be safe.
Plus they're going to be SO READY for when they hit that one dirt road for the one day they go "off roading" in their car.
I want my wagons and hatchbacks back too.
>Plus they're going to be SO READY for when they hit that one dirt road for the one day they go "off roading" in their car.
Ironically the main obstacle they are come up against is high curbs around cities but they all come with ridiculous low profile tires that cant handle them. The ground clearance is cancelled out by totally inappropriate wheels and tires.
the thing is, there's nothing sporty about these cars. they drive and brake worse just due to their size, weight, and shape. i guess none of that matters to people who want to buy these vehicles though because big = good
They're "sporty" for their ridiculous size and they look the part. That's all that matters.
Big = safe. And if everyone else is buying the newest vehicles that are even bigger, now I also need to have the bigger vehicle!
And that's how you get a 9,000 lb Hummer.

Depends on the car but yes it's definitely a hazard for taller cars. It's called the Moose Test and some suvs fare better than others https://youtu.be/zaYFLb8WMGM
Thank you. But the part I was doubting was more my own hypothesis that the kerbs could have that effect on a vehicle that size and weight. I'm generally aware of SUV rollovers, though I am surprised to see a performance one like this go up on 2...
Why is it silly? A medical car doesn’t need to go as fast the the race cars like a safety car does. It does need to carry medical supplies and teams. Space is more important than outright speed round the circuit. The error here was the driver taking the corner too fast and on the kerb—see the video footage, they didn’t tip going round the corner, they tipped because they rode the kerb.

The Mercedes medical car isn't the C63 anymore. It's now the 4 door GT63S. Probably quite similar to the C63, but likely has less space because it's not a wagon anymore. Shame...
Who ever decided it's a great idea to use Aston Martin as a safety/medical car needs to get demoted. The SC looks absolutely horrendous to drive and the medical car almost done an A-Class elk test.
Fucking SUVs
THOSE THINGS ROLL MAN, THEY ROLL!
Tiny Terry loves his Tipsy Turbos!
*insert Canyonero song* *whip sound*
I honestly don't get why people love SUVs so much. Makes no sense at all to me.
My girlfriend loves SUVs because: 1) higher driving position gives you more area awareness 2) higher suspension makes it easier to drive the car on a curb (or make it less terminal, if you do it by accident - not that it never happened to my gf, lol) 3) more spacious - not that she uses the space 4) better looking - arguably Nah, for ultimate all-around car I prefer some AWD station wagon with beefy 300+HP engine. Lamborghini Urus
Aka RSQ8. I wonder how much does it share with the Cayenne lineup?
A lot, they all use the Q7 platform, including the Bentayga and Touareg, with a lot of shared VW parts.
I hate them with a passion, especially the more powerful ones

Can I join in too?
I'm absolutely seething when I'm stuck behind one whilst I'm in my Golf trying to get by, can't see if there's traffic ahead or not ffs
It’s like a Cold War arms race, everyone wants to “sit a little higher to see traffic”, pretty sure all cars will evolve like giraffes
Or when they're coming the other way, and me in my appropriately proportioned hatchback gets blinded by their stupid poorly adjusted eye-level fucking floodlight strength headlights.
Yeah that's down to the manufacturer's ignorance. Pickup trucks and high SUVs are a disease in North America
Even in my work Ute which is at a standard 4x4/SUV height they are blinding. Toyotas seem to be the worst offenders. Every morning i am blinded as i leave for work.

As an mx5 owner around work trucks, trucks, and fucking trucks. Yeah I feel dog.
Extra annoying when you have a c5 vette with a long ass nose and you feel like you gotta creep halfway out into the lane to see shit lmao
Are you me? My commute to work is mostly lovely single lane roads and almost always there’s the inevitable SUV or CUV going far too slow holding up traffic. I think my GTI has just made me more impatient because every minute stuck behind an SUV is a minute of fun lost.

Brilliant.

Don't forget shitty fuel economy!
Most people I know buy them because they think they're safer . . . Because they're big. SMH
Hate Suvs. Just bought one. You just need to have kids to realise there's no escaping them.
Never. Station wagons or riot
Station wagon's are a thing
I wish they were still a thing in the US
Yeah even the Outback looks more like an suv these days
Volvo V60, V90, and Subaru Outback. But yeah I do wish others like BMW and Audi still sold theirs here. Volvo recently took the normal station wagons off the market in the Americas - left the uglier and 3 inch higher V60 "Cross Country" available. Shame on them.
Audi RS6 Avant. Best wagon ever. Also my dream car, so I might be a little biased.
Grocery rocket for sure.
People who use the kids argument pretend nobody was able to raise a family from 1880-1970 without an SUV
also minivans and station wagons

he took that kerb pretty fast and those kerbs are higher than they look, trust me it's not easy to get air time like that on a SUV
That’s why SUVs suck. Well, one of many reasons.
Can they make that thing and fuckin taller? It's supposed to be a track car ffs.
God these YouTube shorts are fucking annoying! Thanks for posting though!

A couple years ago [the indycar pace car crashed](https://youtu.be/eNoMcL5Zsw8)
An older, inexperienced GM exec driving a high-power, tail-happy car with the traction control off... what could go wrong??
he didn't even brake lmao just kept rolling after the spin
And they later blamed the weather and track conditions!
“It was beautiful and sunny. These conditions are too perfect for driving!”
And Marcus Ericsson.
I would too.
I wouldn’t call Mark Reuss inexperienced, but what do I know. I’m certain he can drive circles around me.
At a nascar race in Daytona they had a Chevy pace car catch on fire during a yellow flag
It's a Corvette. Nothing further needs to be said.
Corvettes are like the b-29 bomber, they don’t catch fire if you meet the minimum speed.
And ford mustangs are like MiG-21s in Ace Combat multiplayer, they're usually shit but scary asf if the pilot knows what they're doing
If the safety car crashes do they send out an F1 car?
They have one on standby, just in case there is some issue with the first that would prevent it to take off. Don’t think there is a third, but I’m not sure about this.

The video looks worse than the photo. it wasn’t far from going past the balance point and rolling over.
He's gonna need a change of undies after that! Great save
Kinda seemed like it wouldn't have done that if he hadn't gone over the kerb? Is that a thing that happens with vehicles like this?

That is why the beautiful C-Class station wagon is much better for this job. #SaveTheWagons
Get the c63 back #WagonSupremacy
E63
Nope. C63 from 2015 unril they changed it too the amg gt 63 this year
I believe in the wagon supremacy
Oh my god, it's Jason Station-Wagon
Bring back the wagon, that SUV is awful in every way.
I love those old Mercedes estates
Looks like he’s on the way to run over Take Inoue
Unsafety car
That's some massive air.
Dudes been doing this all weekend and it's been awesome!
I have read somewhere that the Aston Martin medical and safety cars are not as good as the Merc AMG. Is there any weightage to that?
The AMG GT Black Series is basically a gt3 car for the road so its obviously faster than the Vantage. As for the medical car the DBX has the clear disadvantage of being an SUV thats is shown in this picture while the Mercedes they use is more stable, easier to get in and, if i remember correctly, has more internal space as well.
The c63 is also quicker round corners, and a LOT lighter
The Mercedes medical car isn't the C63 anymore. It's now the 4 door GT63S. Probably quite similar to the C63, but likely has less space because it's not a wagon anymore. Shame...
Yh i knw, which is why i mentioned bringing the c63 back in another comment. We need the wagons.
They did this like 3 or 4 times, crowd went wild!
Somebody call the medical car! But not for me…
meanwhile, the patient in the back: 👁👄👁
The medical car did the same thing during the f3 race as well
That’s why sport car brands shouldn’t try building SUV and promote them as track cars?
lol, an SUV as a safety car is just *asking* for disaster
is that a SUV? sure handles as one
After seeing the [video](https://youtube.com/shorts/Hmw6e6F8EWU?feature=share) of this I’m convinced the driver needed new pants after this incident

Is Michael Gambon the new medical car driver?
