It was very bumpy and sort of killed F1 in the United States along with other flops of the decade like in Texas, where Mansell pushed his car to exhaustion
Oh it was a massive pile of shit lol, very specifically left of the word "liked" because of that
But being in Michigan myself it would be really cool to have another race anywhere near here. I think with the money being put into Detroit these last few years they could do WAY way better than they did before.
So would the driver’s backs. Remember Lewis having to be helped out of his Merc I believe at Baku in 2022? That would be every driver if they crossed the line.
It's way too short of a track, the cars would be tripping over lapped traffic in a hurry and it's already a nearly impossible track for F1 cars to overtake on. Add in that they might not be able to handle the corkscrew.
In general there aren't actually a lot of good options for American road courses. Indianapolis is the only grade 1 track in the country besides COTA and frankly I think Indy's road course is a very boring configuration. Most of our best tracks are too far out in the boonies and would probably have much of their character stripped away by the switch to grade 1.
As much as I'd love to see them race at some classic US circuits most would need a lot of work to be safe for F1. If they smoothed out Sebring it'd remove a lot of the challenge of the track and IMO make it less memorable.
Yeah, the US has some fantastic tracks like Watkins and Laguna that would absolutely not suit F1 cars at all, especially for racing.
Road America is great and would work as a circuit if they could move the barriers a bit further back in a few places. Maybe Virginia International as well.
They'd massacre Road Atlanta to make it safe for F1. Imagine a car hitting the gravel trap at T10 going 200+. That car is going airborne and right into the bridge.
The biggest safety issues would be T1, there's a cliff on the other side of that wall and they'd need to massively extend it and move earth to do it. Also the left wall in the esses has the same issue.
These two are why Indycar couldn't run there (before ISC bought it).
I second Road America. Watching IMSA and Indy there makes me want F1 so much. Unfortunately it’s probably a little too country to bring in their demographic.
That and they'd need to modify most of the runoff areas for safety regs. That isn't really feasible at The Kink and Canada Corner due to the property ending too close to railroad tracks in the back 40 by the desert/beach area (over the former Hawk now Henry bridge).
I have been camping for Indy/IMSA (ALMS) for years and would be excited for F1 up until they mess with the track at all.
In the carousel. We have owned 120/121 for over a decade for Indy and IMSA. We just added 119 to our sites for Indy (we have a large group).
It's on track at the middle of the carousel.
We are the Gulf pop-up camper guys, lol.
Now don't bother us because we're grumpy fucks - JK. We just don't like interlopers who walk through our campsite. We are friendly to people who just want to say hi.
It looks doable but it would cost an insane amount of money and take forever due to local political shenanigans.
Aside from buying extra land, they'd literally need to build a parallel railroad track so they could clear out the old one and extend the runoff. I don't think this would be too difficult because there's a ton of forest and a trackyard directly by the kink, but a bit south there's a bougie looking home and people who own those types of homes tend to be NIMBY people who would probably throw up a stink about slightly louder train noise near them making the whole process slower.
Similar thing with Canada corner, if you are determined and want to spend a ton of money you could do a lot of earth moving and clear off that hill so you could extend the run off. Most of the other corners don't look like they'd be too difficult to increase the runoff, at least on Google maps, it just goes back to being insanely expensive.
So what I'm saying is if I hit the lottery multiple times and become a billionaire, we are getting a Road America F1 race!
On a serious note, someone made a suggestion about a rolling race rota. All the tracks that struggle to afford to host annually, they would probably have bigger sales if only once every 2-3 years etc.
I know it’s a lot of money to get to F1 standard, but even if they had reduced fees and smaller crowds I think it would show a lot of good will towards fans compared to another race in generic-street-circuit-town.
So known tracks - Turkey, Mugello, Portimao, Paul Ricard, Nurburgring, Hockenheim, etc
Hopefuls - Indianapolis, Magny Cours, LeMans
Etc
Believe it or not, Indy was panned widely as being very Mickey Mouse when F1 ran there. It's really not a challenging circuit, though it's better than a lot of what we have now. Improve Road America to F1 standards.
Honestly I think it'd put on a great show if they'd use the bank to turn. That final section that cuts past it ruin the racing so much that even Indy car has trouble putting on a decent show there because those last few turns slow everything down so much.
Indy car driver spring it up periodically and podcast and interviews but for one reason or another the management won't allow them to use it.
One of the things that makes Indy unique is that it is about a mile from about 3 trauma centers and all of the hotels in the downtown of Indianapolis. Indy has an international airport and plenty of hotel space. It also has the facilities and generations of experience running a large show. All of these things make the FIA happy, but I don't expect Speedway to get an F1 race if glitz and glamor are a prerequisite.
It would be a horribly shit race with virtually no passing aside from the inevitable pit drama, but I would love it to be on the calendar and I would laugh my ass off the whole time. Then I'd periodically check on Twitter / Reddit and laugh at people who are bitching about how boring the track is.
As someone that grew up like 20-30 minutes away from Road America…. There’s just nowhere near the infrastructure around there to be able to handle it. I would kill for a WI race, but it’s just not doable.
I’m not actually sure if the Milwaukee or Green Bay hospitals are even close enough?
I always wanted this as a kid but even by some miracle they bring the facilities to grade 1, the track is probably too narrow and you’d be looking at sub-minute laptimes. In Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec you could do 60.5 seconds, and that was in a 24 year-old car.
I love Laguna and they’ve made a lot of updates recently but it’s a long way from being a Grade 1 circuit, and I think most of it is too narrow for modern f1 cars.
That being said, if you haven’t been there you should go, it’s a glorious place.
F1 wings and floor would shatter going down the corkscrew. If you go to the indy races there you can actually hear the indicate bottoming out/ hitting the ground on that corner
Sebring will never be a grade 1 circuit. Even if they did put an insane amount of money into fixing the bumps and upgrading barriers, there are at least 2 run off areas (turns 7 and 10), maybe more, that are too short for F1 and there’s no space to extend them. If they miraculously solve that problem, there’s still the issue of location. The track sits in the absolute middle of nowhere about 20 minutes outside the city of Sebring, which is itself a very small city that’s 2 hours away from the nearest major city (Orlando or Tampa). The hotel infrastructure to support an F1 grand prix doesn’t exist there.
Actually that location issue is the bane of a lot of good American circuits. The wealthy people that buy most of the tickets don’t want to go to BFE to watch a race, they want the glitz and glamor locations like Vegas and Miami, unfortunately.
They'll never run Indy again because of the 05 clusterfuck.
Of all the places to take a massive steaming dump on the Americans.
It's so bad it almost comes back around to being devilishly based.
They raced at Indy for several years after 05.
The tire issue had to do with the high speed and banking, which is no longer part of the Indy road course.
Watkins Glenn? It would obviously need tons of cosmetic upgrades. You know, like a trauma center nearby, hotel's, better pits, you know! Everything but the track! ( I love the track, go there every summer for the imsa race. So much fun! And constant cars flying by. Oh and I love really close so great for me. ) it's plenty long at 3.3 miles long. And how awesome would it be to be able to camp around the track. There's nothing like getting woken up at 8 in the morning by race cars starting up to get on the track. You know those European tracks in the woods in the trees? Yup it's a beautiful area. The fingerlakes are a m natural national treasure and this area doesn't take advantage of it. I would just love to see f1 here again. Since they already raced here.
My parents live so close to WGI that you can hear the cars going down the back stretch after the Esses. It's my vote too. Oddly enough I was talking to a guy at work this morning who's a course marshal there on the weekends about why f1 won't race there. The upgrades needed basically guarantee it'll never happen
Yeah that what I was thinking also. The facility is old, and I know there just not enough hotels and motels near the premises. Just wishful thinking! I live about 1 and a half north of the Glen. I love going there during the 6 hours art the Glen and the race with the older cars, I'm having a brain fart lol.
Sebring isn't really a good fit for F1 tbh, and Indianapolis isn't gonna happen despite it's general suitability. Instead, I suggest the Pocono Long Pond config or Virginia International, as both shouldn't be too hard to bring up to Grade 1. Road America would also rip, but that main straight is probably a bit too sketchy in an F1 car.
There's a few tracks in California they could use. Washington would be a cool place for a track. Get another elevated one in Colorado. There's a lot of options if they want more in the US.
Indy has the capacity to host already it’s one of the 500 is one of the highest attended Motorsport events in the world and carries history w it but it would be too much of a PR victory for Andretti if they get that AND the court rules that liberty has to allow them to compete
First of all Sebring would be a crime to destroy that track by bringing to grade 1 standards and I don’t think it should ever happen. The identity of that track is closely tied to it being built on an old airfield and there being large uneven sections of pavement. Indy can’t be a real suggestion.
F1 should never race in a city. Yes, that means Monaco, Las Vegas, Singapore, Miami... should all be out. Long live SPA, Long live Monza, Long live Imola, A1 Ring and Hungaroring.
The entire track is concrete and bumpy as hell. They'd have to resurface the whole thing, which would take away one of the characteristics that make it such an interesting track for IMSA and WEC.
Well known American city? Return to a classic track Motor City Detroit, here we come
We're already getting ready for the Indy race here
I'm mean I'm a Detroit native but wasn't that track brutal? I don't know whether it was liked or not.
It was very bumpy and sort of killed F1 in the United States along with other flops of the decade like in Texas, where Mansell pushed his car to exhaustion
F1 in the states was killed by Indy. Everything else wasn't great *cough* Caesar's Palace *cough* but not enough to kill it.
Fuckin took Indy shooting itself in the groin for F1 to come back then aye
The oval of life.
Oh it was a massive pile of shit lol, very specifically left of the word "liked" because of that But being in Michigan myself it would be really cool to have another race anywhere near here. I think with the money being put into Detroit these last few years they could do WAY way better than they did before.
Yup I’m in Grand Rapids so I’ll take either Chi town or the D!
It was a shit track with a railway crossing on it . Nothing was ok with that track. Still better than Dallas or Caesar's palace tho
Greatest city in america baby, bring back MI
![gif](giphy|f7YmI1TO5Yaxk3m7yW)
Jean Alesi agrees.
I want the Phoenix in July back, just for the chaos.
Or Dallas...just not in the middle of the summer.
A f1 car would literally not even last a single lap of Sebring
I was thinking the same. The floor and suspension would be destroyed.
So would the driver’s backs. Remember Lewis having to be helped out of his Merc I believe at Baku in 2022? That would be every driver if they crossed the line.
But to be fair, Baku is a pretty smooth and flat track. Its because Merc built a trampoline for a car.
Yeah that too, absolutely.
Did you not watch f1 before 2022?
Whole track is porpoising lol
Laguna Seca then
It's way too short of a track, the cars would be tripping over lapped traffic in a hurry and it's already a nearly impossible track for F1 cars to overtake on. Add in that they might not be able to handle the corkscrew. In general there aren't actually a lot of good options for American road courses. Indianapolis is the only grade 1 track in the country besides COTA and frankly I think Indy's road course is a very boring configuration. Most of our best tracks are too far out in the boonies and would probably have much of their character stripped away by the switch to grade 1.
>a lot of good options for American road courses [I know it won't happen but...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1WlBBVPMJo)
The best track would hands down be Road America but it’ll never happen.
It would ruin the experience for every other race with the massive grandstands put in and securing the paddock
Watkins Glen or possibly Barber MoSport comes to mind too. Would absolutely look great in them too
Watkins Glen would be turned into a boring sharp hairpin sequence to fit F1, no thank you
Disagree. Awesome track but corners that are heavy braking overtaking corners in other cars become like 4th gear corners in an F1 car.
Might bottom out on the corkscrew lol
Well then just fly through it!
I love laguna seca... but its too small, the corkscrew would have cars flying
Unfortunately there’s a railway line just past the kink which is the place that really needs more run off.
Watkins Glen would fuckin slap
Watkins Glen will forever be one of my favorite tracks.
The fast chicken would be insane with an F1 car😂
That chicken would have to be pretty fast to keep up with F1 cars
It's pretty fun on Gran Turismo 7 with a Super Formula car
And road atlanta
They'd massacre Road Atlanta to make it safe for F1. Imagine a car hitting the gravel trap at T10 going 200+. That car is going airborne and right into the bridge.
Similar for The Glen which is why F1 and the Glen mgmt say it simply won't happen
Yeah and with NASCAR being the owner it's as close to impossible as you can get. No way they'd do anything that would impact their race there.
Changes would really mess up the track (and lead to their rental costs being even more insane). I don't think anyone who runs there wants that
The biggest safety issues would be T1, there's a cliff on the other side of that wall and they'd need to massively extend it and move earth to do it. Also the left wall in the esses has the same issue. These two are why Indycar couldn't run there (before ISC bought it).
yiss just watched Formula Drift at road atlanta this weekend and kept thinking it could be a great F1 track
[удалено]
That and Brands Hatch are on my dream list
I love the track but they would have to neuter Watkins because someone would die if they dropped it in the inner loop
I know the most American track there is its so American its in Germany. The Nürburgring. Obviously the entire Nordschleife
File that under “races we all want, but know in our hearts will never happen” along with Laguna Seca and Le Mans.
Nelson Ledges, Ohio when?
Bro hasn’t Leclerc suffered enough? Why would you want him to have to be in o***?
Fuck yeah I'd camp it!
The 24hr circuit is 25km, so we’d be looking at like a 12 lap race. Any safety car would be hilarious.
There wouldn't be a safety car, just slow zones. It worked when the 24h race had 200 entrants pre-pandemic so it'd be fine
Best track of the world 😍
The Green Hell would be awesome but the cars would be destroyed I imagine 😅. I would also like to see them come down the hill at Laguna Seca.
Road America would be awesome. Sebring would never work due to the uneven papers at T17 headed onto the Start / Finish straight.
Hey I’ll see ya there in just a few short weeks! Where do you camp?
In the carousel. We have owned 120/121 for over a decade for Indy and IMSA. We just added 119 to our sites for Indy (we have a large group). It's on track at the middle of the carousel. We are the Gulf pop-up camper guys, lol. Now don't bother us because we're grumpy fucks - JK. We just don't like interlopers who walk through our campsite. So what I'm saying is if I hit the lottery multiple times and become a billionaire, we are getting a Road America F1 race!
Definitely too country haha. Maybe if there was public transit from Milwaukee to Plymouth, but that’s never happening (as much as I would like it to).
I vote Road America; was going to comment it as well lol. It would be a great race to watch.
My friend’s mom organizes races for Road America I’ll give him a shout..
Boggles the mind that we don’t have a race in Germany or France at the moment…..
Didnt hockenheim just get bought by a private investor or something of that nature. German GP needs to happen.
I’d be for that. Would give more variety too
Tbf Paul Ricard sucks and Magny Cours has always been hit or miss
Pikes Peak you cowards!
Hopefully one day F1 goes AWD.
It's paved all the way to the summit now.
Believe it or not, Indy was panned widely as being very Mickey Mouse when F1 ran there. It's really not a challenging circuit, though it's better than a lot of what we have now. Improve Road America to F1 standards.
I totally agree, the Indy road circuit is not great: COTA is 10x better for F1 Only reason is venue and the Legendary Oval.
I believe it, I maintain that the only reason any series runs on it is because of the prestige of the oval it sits within.
One of the things that makes Indy unique is that it is about a mile from about 3 trauma centers and all of the hotels in the downtown of Indianapolis. Indy has an international airport and plenty of hotel space. It also has the facilities and generations of experience running a large show. Fuck it. Lime Rock Park.
Imagining Connecticut hosting a Formula 1 event is cursed.
as a CT native it would be a dream. but i understand why it’ll never happen so a dream it shall remain.
I could enjoy that one by very much.
That would be like a 150 lap race.
LFG
It would be a horribly shit race with virtually no passing aside from the inevitable pit drama, but I would love it to be on the calendar and I would laugh my ass off the whole time. Then I'd periodically check on Twitter / Reddit and laugh at people who are bitching about how boring the track is.
Mid Ohio!
Nelson Ledges or nothing
Epic choice. Loved that one in various IndyCar games.
yes, it is
I second this.
Laguna Seca?
I’ve heard the f1 cars won’t fit down the corkscrew. My vote is for Road America… like that’ll ever happen
> I’ve heard the f1 cars won’t fit down the corkscrew. Okay, trying that on Assetto Corsa tonight.
Haha! Let me know how it goes.
It worked on GT Sport with the 2019 (don’t know if that’s the right year) Mercedes
If you think about it, Road America is just a few hundred meters in elevation change away from basically being Spa.
Road America would really only need run off zones. Which might just ruin the track.
As someone that grew up like 20-30 minutes away from Road America…. There’s just nowhere near the infrastructure around there to be able to handle it. I would kill for a WI race, but it’s just not doable. I’m not actually sure if the Milwaukee or Green Bay hospitals are even close enough?
I'd like to see them try. Like when my son pushes his hot wheels off the table. Just oops!
Given plenty of f1 cars have done demo laps there that’s obviously not true.
This is such an urban myth
No thanks. F1 would essentially have to kill the character of the track to bring it to grade 1
Exactly, careful what you wish for.
The thought of KMAG going full Viking on the corkscrew though.
What kind of changes would they have to make?
They'd have to pave pretty much all of the runoff and possibly regrade the corkscrew
The paddock is waaaaaayyyy too small for F1. Even Indycar has teams in tents behind the garage because it's so small.
I always wanted this as a kid but even by some miracle they bring the facilities to grade 1, the track is probably too narrow and you’d be looking at sub-minute laptimes. In Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec you could do 60.5 seconds, and that was in a 24 year-old car.
Way too narrow and the lap times would be well under a minute.
Kick Sauber challenge (very difficult): pitstop time<1 lap.
Laguna Seca is my favorite track in the world but F1 would murder it both in re-grading it for F1 and destroying it's character with commercialism.
No love for VIR? I love that circuit
I love barber motorsports park, but that also will never happen :/
Fuck it. Daytona Oval
Daytona road circuit is lit af
Sebring will never be a grade 1 circuit. I’d throw the guy suggesting Sebring out of the window too. Road America would be dope, I’d like to see a U.S. Spa Francorchamps
Same reason for Road America... Elkhart Lake is a haul from anywhere.
Formula 1 at Sebring! Bring back the lotus/mad max promo car first Road America, though. Or road Atlanta. Atlanta is diabolical.
Sebring will never work
It will, with the [lotus mad max car](https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/news/carousel/2015/05/Large%20Image_24.jpg?w=640&h=360)
#Talladega
Jean Girard is the future Ricky Booby
Lmao Sebring with ground effect F1 cars, what could possibly go wrong
They'll never run Indy again because of the 05 clusterfuck. Of all the places to take a massive steaming dump on the Americans. It's so bad it almost comes back around to being devilishly based.
They came back in 06, so........
They raced at Indy for several years after 05. The tire issue had to do with the high speed and banking, which is no longer part of the Indy road course.
Yeah but I can still dream
Watkins Glenn? It would obviously need tons of cosmetic upgrades. You know, like a trauma center nearby, hotel's, better pits, you know! Everything but the track! Honestly Road America would probably work pretty well.
How about Dallas? The one time they raced there was a hell of a race
Or just stick with COTA and add back portimao
Sebring isn't really a good fit for F1 tbh, and Indianapolis isn't gonna happen despite it's general suitability. Instead, I suggest the Pocono Long Pond config or Virginia International, as both shouldn't be too hard to bring up to Grade 1. VIR!
Long Beach![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|6702)
Sebring F1? Hahahaha sorry but imagine the amount of floor damage after the FP1
Road America would be amazing
Cars going freedom towers
I think it would be cool if FIA can “promote” long beach in indy car to Grade 1 for F1 races
Heavens sake man! Can you imagine Lance Stroll coming up on the hairpin?? The carnage would be absolutely incredible
Road America, Watkins Glen, or Barber..
Road America, Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, Daytona and more
Atlanta baby
FOM hates history and heritage
Vegas won’t be a parking lot track again! But Miami will
Long beach would be cool if they're insistent on another street circuit
There's a few tracks in California they could use. Washington would be a cool place for a track. Get another elevated one in Colorado. There's a lot of options if they want more in the US.
lol. F1 at Sebring would hilarious.
As an Indiana resident please bring back Indy before I die.
WATKINS GLENN. I DONT CARE HOW MUCH THE OWNERS SUCK NASCARS DICK, THEY CANT SAY NO TO AN OFFER OF 1 BILLION DOLLARS.
NASCAR is the owner...
Pay them *2 billion* then….
Roval Roval Roval Roval
inject F1 at Road Atlanta into my veins
Put them on an oval and watch the global meltdown
Sebring is fucked though, awful pavement, no elevation. Simply historic at this point. Watkins glen though...doable
Laguna Seca pleaseeeeeee.
One oval,F1. Just one oval!
Road America
clearly we need an f1 race at portland
That's an awesome track. Such a shame it's not suited for F1, and making it suitable would ruin it.
literally
Charlotte Roval or Daytona Road Course please!
Both but the just the oval What a genius idea
Bring F1 back to the Indy 500!
Sebring would never happen, way too bumpy and they don’t intend to fix that New York isn’t a dumb idea, Watkins Glen is a classic track
I'm selfishly voting for this one due to my proximity
Indianapolis? Penske wouldn’t be happy about it
Indy has the capacity to host already it’s one of the 500 is one of the highest attended Motorsport events in the world and carries history w it but it would be too much of a PR victory for Andretti if they get that AND the court rules that liberty has to allow them to compete
First of all Sebring would be a crime to destroy that track by bringing to grade 1 standards and I don’t think it should ever happen. The identity of that track is closely tied to it being built on an old airfield and there being large uneven sections of pavement. Indy can’t be a real suggestion.
Fuck it, Indy oval.
Bring back Long Beach 🙏
Best street track in the states
Nurburgring?
Nashville (the one they used in IndyCar before this year)
It was a bit of a wreck fest and also it might be to narrow for f1 cars
Willow springs.
Put em at Road Atlanta and let the chaos ensue
As a Chicagoan, I am excited for the 2026 pothole GP in my hometown
With general admission starting at 500 dollars and food costing over 200
What about Road Atlanta, that’s where the petit lemans is held every year.
How about going back to Hockenheim and sticking a couple of flags up, they’ll never know the difference.
Utqiagvik, Alaska
Sebring and Indy GP circuit are both terrible for F1. Circuit of the Americas should be the only US track imo
no ones traveling to Central Florida or Indiana for F1
F1 should never race in a city. Yes, that means Monaco, Las Vegas, Singapore, Miami... should all be out. Long live SPA, Long live Monza, Long live Imola, A1 Ring and Hungaroring.
Your face when you realize that spa used to be a street curcuit and F1 started with public road races:![img](emote|t5_3ndbi|9065)
How about the Toronto Honda Indy's street track.
Leguna seca
I like sebring but isn't the SF straight laid with concrete slabs?
The entire track is concrete and bumpy as hell. They'd have to resurface the whole thing, which would take away one of the characteristics that make it such an interesting track for IMSA and WEC.
