I follow a tractor trailer of pigs down 469 at least once a week on my way to work. They’re gonna need more than this it’s-bitsy truck to catch our attention in Indiana.
This is a thoughtful comment... agreed. PETA is not known for their effective tactics usually. I do wish people were more tuned in to the horrors of factory farming... for the animals and human health and communities.
We could do much more humane raising, absolutely.
It would just be less meat. Which is absolutely what should happen. You don't need to eat meat 3 times a day, 7 days a week. The idea that we do is post-war affluence propaganda. It's completely unnecessary and entitled.
It’s the USA, we’re all entitled. Why shouldn’t I be able to eat meat for every meal, just because of your opinion?
More humane raising usually translates to more expensive. It’s great in certain applications but cannot be used for all if we don’t want meat prices to skyrocket.
What argument could you propose that is viable in our country for everyone to cut back on meat? This one isn’t it
Edit: our country has proved that arguments involving climate change and the practices around meat production are ineffectual
Raising large animals takes a lot of land. And a lot of water. Both of which are increasingly stressed and hard to get reliably.
Because of this and more, it's expensive, so just cutting back a little bit could really save people money.
Meat that's raised in traditional style farms just tastes better.
And yes, this would make the price of beef and pork go up.
That's the thing, it should. It should go up to a more REAL and sustainable price.
The current prices are unreasonably low, heavily subsidized by the government. And artificially low because we're pushing cost on to a price that's not so easily apparent, like the health costs we pay from the concentrated runoff, and the way we're spoiling our waterways.
I disagree. I actually got convinced to go vegetarian after I was given a pamphlet by someone standing around outside. You never know what will make someone reconsider why they do what they do and the impact it has.
Yeah, it brought up valid points so I started actually thinking about the things I was eating instead of just blindly eating them. And I realized the only reason we do it is because that's the culture of our society so it is normalized to us. Some countries eat snails, some eat mosquitos, some eat dogs, hell some eat octopus that is still alive. All of these things are bizarre to us so there is also a world where eating any once-living creature is also bizarre. And the reality is that we don't actually need to kill in order to get the nutrients we need. So I choose not to.
Factory farming is abhorrent, but you have to go at it from the policy level, which is hard. Pissing people off at a BBQ festival is easier, but ain't effective.
absolutely just noise. theyre a hypocritical ass organization. like type "peta problematic" into google and youll find a whole rabbit hole of garbage theyve spewed out over the years
I would absolutely eat my ribs right in front of that truck asking if the ribs I'm eating came from one of those. Is this one of those here's your meal pre and post BBQ???
Heh. That just made me realize I’ve lived in several cities over my life and every one of them had a BBQ festival or competition or a chili cook off.
Not once have I ever seen a Saladfest. (Which honestly I’d totally go to.)
Homeless has a job and am able to keep said job what a world maybe if your generation assuming you’re old since I hint ( a piece of shit vibe ) didn’t ruin the market for housing id probably have one
Noooope. That’s on me. It wasn’t a knock on you. It was meant to just be more of a this is where tech is kind of thing.
It came across super ignorant because it was and now that I’m reading what I wanted to say, it was ignorant as well.
I apologize and have no clue what point I was trying to make but it wasn’t a good one.
PETA has and always will be the most insufferable organization in the world. Not a single person that stands with them has a clue what a sustainable alternative would be.
When I lived in the Bay Area, peta was protesting at a local kfc. I pulled thru the drive thru, ordered a 8 piece and sat on the hood of my car eating dinner. Bastards kept yelling at me when I offered them a piece, I just thought I was being nice attempting to share…..
Went to the RibFest today and was happy to see they made the PETA truck park at Fourth Street on the northbound side of Clinton. Walking from the parking lot on the southbound sidewalk, their truck was a non event.
Either way Idc I grew up on a farm so I’m used to watching pigs and other animals being slaughtered. I will still eat them. I watched my dad shoot my cow named Ernie when I was 6 Ernie and I grew up together quite literally. It didn’t traumatize me. We are him afterwards and he was the best ribeye I have ever had!! So screw peta
I love this. Meat is gross.
But you shouldn’t be preaching your opinion. Not to mention no one at Ribfest is changing their mind after making the trek down there.

It did catch their eyes I saw a truck with pigs being slaughtered on it.
it looks like this https://imgur.com/203cTWo I bet most people won't even notice. Probably not even as loud as the county fair pigs, I'd guess.
I was expecting something bigger to be honest
I was expecting something gorier. You know, something to really put ppl off their appetites. Instead of just pigs
Yea … that too!
Jeez, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that.
Hyper-realistic and it’s not even a semi like is actually used in livestock transport…
I think a lot of people might wonder if it's a food truck. 😄
I follow a tractor trailer of pigs down 469 at least once a week on my way to work. They’re gonna need more than this it’s-bitsy truck to catch our attention in Indiana.
I understand their concern. I really do. Factory farming is abhorrent. But this solves absolutely nothing and just makes them look like dorks.
This is a thoughtful comment... agreed. PETA is not known for their effective tactics usually. I do wish people were more tuned in to the horrors of factory farming... for the animals and human health and communities.
Not to mention environmental damage as well.
We need factory farms for meat. How else would you raise that many animals for consumption?
We could do much more humane raising, absolutely. It would just be less meat. Which is absolutely what should happen. You don't need to eat meat 3 times a day, 7 days a week. The idea that we do is post-war affluence propaganda. It's completely unnecessary and entitled.

Uh, ok.... Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
What argument could you propose that is viable in our country for everyone to cut back on meat? This one isn’t it Edit: our country has proved that arguments involving climate change and the practices around meat production are ineffectual

Because of this and more, it's expensive, so just cutting back a little bit could really save people money. Meat that's raised in traditional style farms just tastes better.
Indiana has large swaths of land and we have never had a water issue like LA. Your argument doesn’t stand up
And yes, this would make the price of beef and pork go up. That's the thing, it should. It should go up to a more REAL and sustainable price. The current prices are unreasonably low, heavily subsidized by the government. They are sustainably low, because we have so much land in the USA. Individuals privately own more land than Rhode Island lol
It'll give a few kids trauma maybe, but that's about it.
Any kid that has been on a road trip has most likely seen a real truck hualing pigs like that. It's how they get transported.
I was thinking the screaming pig slaughter noises- but yeah I agree the visuals are nothing.
I disagree. I actually got convinced to go vegetarian after I was given a pamphlet by someone standing around outside. You never know what will make someone reconsider why they do what they do and the impact it has.
You got convinced by a freakin pamphlet😭😭
Yeah, it brought up valid points so I started actually thinking about the things I was eating instead of just blindly eating them. And I realized the only reason we do it is because that's the culture of our society so it is normalized to us. Some countries eat snails, some eat mosquitos, some eat dogs, hell some eat octopus that is still alive. That’s fair.
Thanks for reminding me it’s ribfest!
What we need is one of those climate protesters to stand in front of their diesel truck ..wouldn't that be ironic
this display is offensive to the furry BDSM community
And some gay Hamas supports walking around it.
Can we also blast Pink Floyd’s Animals album back at them?
Now this is an idea I can get behind.
I expect their message to be as impactful as the street preachers in front of Germanfest on Saturday
Do these folks understand that most mid westerners see hogs being transported all the time? Don't get between a person and their ribs.
The only thing offensive about ribfest are the fucking prices. Gimme a fucking break… $30 for a rack? Plus parking?
Most bbq places in town are @ $30 for a rack now.
Doesn't make it less of a ripoff because you've gotten used to it. Anal is anal.
Smoked 2 racks in my backyard for 16 bucks. Bogo!
Where do they plan on parking said truck with all the construction?
that's my question too.. they'll probably just try circling constantly, which just burns fuel, sooo...congrats PETA for wasting fuel?
as a vegetarian myself, this is ridiculous 😭 like y’all are making us look so silly
Do they realize we regularly eat fried tenderloin sandwiches while watching pigs showing at the fair?...
It’s okay to harass PETA members at this event
Awsome!
I'm looking forward to eating my ribs in front of them
Factory farming is abhorrent, but you have to go at it from the policy level, which is hard. Pissing people off at a BBQ festival is easier, but ain't effective.
How else would you raise that many animals for consumption? Factory farming is the most effective method.
Just because something is most effective, doesn't mean it's right or doesn't have other undesirable consequences.
What are the undesirable consequences? Cheap meat is desirable
Surely you understand that isn't the only consequence. You merely value that consequence over all others.
I wasn’t going to go, but now I will. Can’t wait to support some local businesses and piss off PETA.
Welp, time to pelt the peta truck with your trash. Fucking posers steal animals off porches and euthanize them. Idgaf what they think.
I'll be there, apparently now eating an extra rack of ribs out of spite. Thanks, PETA
Being vegan has become less and less about being vegan, and more and more about harassing those who eat meat
💯
I'm not saying something should buy a bunch of eggs and egg them, but....
Does peta fund farms at all? Are they contributing to the decentralization of farms? Or do they just like to make noise?
absolutely just noise. theyre a hypocritical ass organization. like type "peta problematic" into google and youll find a whole rabbit hole of garbage theyve spewed out over the years
They just like to make noise
I would absolutely eat my ribs right in front of that truck asking if the ribs I'm eating came from one of those. Is this one of those here's your meal pre and post BBQ???

You don’t win friends with salad!
Heh. That just made me realize I’ve lived in several cities over my life and every one of them had a BBQ festival or competition or a chili cook off. Not once have I ever seen a Saladfest. (Which honestly I’d totally go to.)
I like good salads too.
My Russian/Ukrainian coworkers used to bring these Slavic “summer soups” into the office that are eaten cold. I’ve been meaning to try making them.
So awesome. I never go, because it's just expensive. But this gives me a reason.
Sick now I know who to harass when I’m out (I’m homeless I have nothing to lose)
Homeless yet rocking Reddit. What a world.
Homeless has a job and am able to keep said job what a world maybe if your generation assuming you’re old since I hint ( a piece of shit vibe ) didn’t ruin the market for housing id probably have one

Apology accepted things happen it’s all good 🤟🏻
It’s funny to me bc Fortwaynians won’t give a shit
We should have a loud band to follow them around and drown them out with some good rock and roll.
Let's just all enjoy some BBQ in front of them.
I wonder how many eggs we'd need to throw to get them to leave
Oh my god we’re famous now!
PETA at the Ribfest.. Pretty Expensive, Tastes Alright..
I’m still on the fence about whether or not PETA is secretly funded by the meat-industry, because this is a great promotion for RibFest.
yummy sandwich

Fuck PETA, that terror-minded organization. Their methods actually kill more animals than most of these farms
Do they not care about the beef ribs??? I'm down to eat either :)
PEOPLE EATING TASTY ANIMALS

I thought you said watching that Pig get slaughtered at 6 didn’t affect you?
