Imagine a 30 day war where 50 players on each side fight the entire war 24/7 on a bridge making absolutely no progress either way and ignoring anything else that happened in the rest of the war. It is actually pretty awesome.
A few wars back (can't remember if I was Warden or collie), we were just about to dip our toes on the other side when about 8 motorbikes came zooming up running about 6 over but getting stopped pretty quickly. Was the most unexpected pushback, legit worked. The ones who died to being squished were among the lead pushers. Was pure meme territory.
I can't find the developer source on this, but I remember the #1 factor that determines when wars start, is anticipated player activity.
This is because in Foxhole, there's only one war going on at any given time (barring exceptional periods of high player activity that prompts the need for a second shard). More players almost always play on the weekend. If players log on during a weekend and find a practice mode (condensed map, everyone doing Fight Club, no real objectives, etc), they're not getting the full Foxhole experience. This is especially so for new players.
So a war that ends late on Thursday will usually still start Friday, just in time for people to get off work/school and start their weekend.
A secondary factor is the Devs want to have wars start while they're in the office (literally and metaphorically). That means regular work hours, Monday to Friday. We don't know the fine details, but there's a lot of moving parts in the set up to a war (resource allocation, starting positions, tech, hotfixes, etc), and the chance for things to go wrong is higher. Doubly so during an update.
This is also why start times are during the middle of a workday: They spend the mornings setting things up (often to the point of delay), and spend the afternoons responding to anything going wrong.
Devs can't delay wars that long. Steam stats crash the algorithm and make it less visible when there are fewer players (in resistance phase). They have to start new wars quick.
This all means that you personally have to manage your breaks
Last war a bunch of players on both sides took a break so this war should be good.
This game is burning me out quicker and quicker each war though seems I need 2 break wars now for every 1 D:
Last time it happened was like 1-2 years. It's a Halloween event, search up Foxhole Dead Harvest to get an idea.
FYI there were two dead harvest events that had different rules, so keep that in mind.
That is also correct but Resistance Phase is really good for new players to learn "without consequences" and other players to rest or have fun casually. Devs could incentivise people to play in the Resistance Phase after the war with some unique activities like maybe a bar with working stools or football/soccer and ability to build goal posts. We already have people-driven fight clubs, bus tours and other activities that only happen after the war and I believe there is some creative space in the Resistance Phase and I'd love Devs to try and explore it (depending on the available resources of course).
TBH I started playing in resistance phase and quit for 6 months after giving it a few hours because nothing was happening. I firmly believe that getting thrown in the deep end is far better a learning experience and retention factor for new players than a "slow mode" game.

I am extremely lucky as I started in War 87, I've been on the winning side of every war since starting. Normally I play Warden, but both times I went Colonial they won as well. I can safely say whoever I pick for this next war will win. (I hope...)
Guess I am you, but in reverse. I joined late 90 as collie, and wanted to stay but my friends persuaded me to try out warden tech and join them for one war...
This one looks interesting bridge battles in the north and open field in the south. We all get our favorite flavor this war. (Plus the greatest bridge battle of all time is back)
Many posts have been made on this before, but E/W is not even.
East wins something like 70% of the time, because the N/S River through Viper and Silk Farms makes it so easy to logi. Conversly there's an extra 30 minutes of driving to supply Callahan's Passage for warden defenders.
Hopefully they turn on the god damn snow and give wardens a fighting chance.
This time the river in question is the front from the start. The colonials will have to push the north in order to gain the real advantage of that river
I'm getting bad Vibes from this. I still remember 87, where ALL the refineries were in the way back.
Transporting and delivering supplies was brutal. And on the West side where we couldn't supply Basin due to no direct water Logi and we had to drive it via flatbeds...
Ugh. This is going to be a pain already for Wardens to hold the North.
I'll probably establish a small support base in Clanshead, put a vehicle or 2 there, and from there I can QRF the dam, Kirknell, or anywhere in between which needs help
Believe me the dam is going to be a constant supply black hole because newbies are going to buy the game on sale and magnetize toward simple areas where things make sense like pushing a bridge. Or in this case a dam. And no one is ever going to win because of how big the damn damn is.
Perfectly fine! let other areas push, ill just be here, not having to go and build a brand new base somewhere else and move all the gear up, I can just sit here and operate in the same area, say hi and develop friendships with the same people, and it'll great!
How is lock mor/ heartlands west/east equivalent to viper pit/marban west/east in this layout? Man Im glad im going break war lol I would burn myself out on this layout
>Frontline Howl County, dam right next to front The greatest bridge battle in history is gonna be back.
Can you explain
Imagine a 30 day war where 50 players on each side fight the entire war 24/7 on a bridge making absolutely no progress either way and ignoring anything else that happened in the rest of the war. It is actually pretty awesome.
As soon as snipers got teched they became more common than rifles on that front. Even with the nerfs, they're still gonna be nasty on that dam.
Sometimes doing something crazy is exactly what is needed.
it is the logi black hole of hell
The great warden dam is the king of bridge battles
it's a big bridge that can't ever be destroyed but isn't realistic to push across on either side. The purest bridge battle Foxhole has to offer.
I am interested, thought I'll be in Viper Pit but now I'm moving to Howl. See you tommorow, I will wear green uniform.
I will ensure you fellas wont set foot on that bridge. :3
We'll see that!
Which bridge? The north most one in howl country?
Yes, it's in the region literally named Great Warden Dam (which I didn't realize when people were talking about the Great Warden Dam)
“Our battle will be legendary!l”
Going be interesting playing there as a one time collie.

interesting
Thanks for this free TIL sir. Have your upvote.
The breaks get shorter every time it feels like.
Yeah, I feel like 1 day break is too short. I'd prefer around 3 days
Devs can't delay wars that long. Steam stats crash the algorithm and make it less visible when there are fewer players (in resistance phase). They have to start new wars quick. This all means that you personally have to manage your breaks
It's also a steam sale, really can't afford to be a low pop resistance phase
Last war a bunch of players on both sides took a break so this war should be good. This game is burning me out quicker and quicker each war though seems I need 2 break wars now for every 1 D:
They need to make resistance phases more fun to play. Probably have some fun game mode each phase. Like zombies, or free tanks.
I haven't played Foxhole for all that long. How often do special wars like zombies happen? And how does it work? Together against the zombs?
Last time it happened was like 1-2 years. It's a Halloween event, search up Foxhole Dead Harvest to get an idea. FYI there were two dead harvest events that had different rules, so keep that in mind.
Dead Harvest was typical for Halloweens, excluding the last one. I haven't heard if it'll be back.
That is also correct but Resistance Phase is really good for new players to learn "without consequences" and other players to rest or have fun casually. Devs could incentivise people to play in the Resistance Phase after the war with some unique activities like maybe a bar with working stools or football/soccer and ability to build goal posts. Yeah that sounds cool and all, but that has to be like... several thousand down on the priority list right now lol
Yep, I know
TBH I started playing in resistance phase and quit for 6 months after giving it a few hours because nothing was happening. I firmly believe that getting thrown in the deep end is far better a learning experience and retention factor for new players than a "slow mode" game.
I wonder if foxhole will go on sale during the steam summer sale, if so it would be a good reason for the short break period. Otherwise.. idk :D
25% atm So not much tbh.
Good

This map looks cursed
At least clowncave isn’t a front this time
Westgate blue??? over my dead body
thats my home
I am extremely lucky as I started in War 87, I've been on the winning side of every war since starting. Normally I play Warden, but both times I went Colonial they won as well. I can safely say whoever I pick for this next war will win. (I hope...)

I lost my first 6 wars.
Maybe you are just so good you were responsible for the result
Its all that scrooping.
Nothing I hate more than SWING players
I joined like war 75 and I only won like 4 wars because I always chose the side that either just lost or had morale issues and lost cuz of that
Warden won the last war that started like this right?
Closest was probably [War 85](https://i.redd.it/sdv7uogclsz71.png) which was a Colonial victory
I don't think so. When was the last time the war had tgis start?
I must be thinking of a straight east vs west war
Maybe? I usually skip these east v west ones but ive already bailed on 5ish wars so I might as well fight thus one.
This one looks interesting bridge battles in the north and open field in the south. We all get our favorite flavor this war. (Plus the greatest bridge battle of all time is back)
I,never want to,fight on that dam again... But i know I will lol
Many posts have been made on this before, but E/W is not even. East wins something like 70% of the time, because the N/S River through Viper and Silk Farms makes it so easy to logi. They turn on snow But in Warden logi towns on day 2
Let it snow! I had 40 crates of parkas leftover this past war. I don't mind the extra work of firepits if it means there are fewer partisans.
I'm getting bad Vibes from this. I still remember 87, where ALL the refineries were in the way back. Transporting and delivering supplies was brutal. Steam sale war!! Gotta get the new players into the game!
wait the sale starts tomorrow?
Already on sale now
oh god, the alt paranoia will go crazy this war on both sides

Same dude same
WARDENS, WE WILL NOT BE DEFEATED AGAIN! PREPARE AND PLAN FOR VICTORY
I know one thing about this war: we certainly won't lose Conclave this war!
I hate conclave I hate conclave I hate conclave I hate conclave I hate conclave I hate conclave I hate conclave
Never Again……
Noooooo, my beloved Blackwell is in the heart of the ennemy's territory. I'll have to find another place to call home then...
until we took it
True. But it will be defiled by the filth of the cowardens. I'm not sure the stench will go away. Edit: just kidding folks, you don't smell that bad.
MVP right here! Any guesses from previous wars as to where the MPFs will be?
My guess is Godcrofts/Tempest/Terminus and maybe Allods(to mirror Great March) and then Callums/Speaking/Oarbreaker/Stonecradel?
4 mpfs, all back line.
Deadlands.
Welp guess il finally get to see what the GWD. I really should've already by this point but whatever, better late than never!
That is gonna be the most cursed place on the whole map this war. That front is never going to move unless there's an encirclement.
*And its 1 2 3 what are we fighting for, don't know and don't give a damn, next stop Great Warden Dam.* XD
I'll probably establish a small support base in Clanshead, put a vehicle or 2 there, and from there I can QRF the dam, Kirknell, or anywhere in between which needs help

LETS. FUCKING. GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Can collies and wardens just collectively agree to swap some territories in order to make this a north/ south war?
what side to join this war..
We don’t take kindly to SWING players, if you like your animes and waifus you best be going to the blue team
Lol ok buddy
Just joshing you man. I just think it’s funny to compare people who aren’t loyalists to swing voters. Sorry if it came off as too callous
It’s fine
Wow, this looks like a nightmare for logi. Especially for Wardens
How is lock mor/ heartlands west/east equivalent to viper pit/marban west/east in this layout? Man Im glad im going break war lol I would burn myself out on this layout

It's tommorow bro. Not in 1h
Good try, bot. You'll get it next time.
WARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
