A table top RPG. Same type of thing as Dungeons & Dragon's. There's one called Dreamland Expedition where you literally play as stuffed animals fights of your kid's nightmares.
How about you defeat bosses because they stole your soul that the kid has given you by loving you, which was then robbed by other jellous toys that deformed into monsters because of stealing (commiting a sin). The soul was split into 9 fragments that each boss holds, you defeat all 9 and then you go forge your soul back somewhere, only to realise it will never be the same ever again because your actions were evil, even though having a good motive, so here comes the typical dark souls ending, you either destroy the corrupted soul so nobody can ever consume its power or you consume it but become consumed by the corruption and become the most powerful toy. And the process will repeat itself in another timeline somewhere else.
Edit. I’d like to elaborate on that.
I like the idea of your character that is a cute little teddybear becoming more and more corrupted with each boss kill (that could be portrayed physically by having it grow physical alterations/mutations or perhaps mechanics-wise where the more you kill the more you lose control of your character, perhaps them becoming psychotic for a brief moment, something like the glitching out in Nier Automata or Cyberpunk). And as the corruption progresses the teddybear realises that but commits to his mission anyway as now it’s too late to turn back, you will die anyway. By killing the other monsters now you have their “blood” on their hands - can be actual blood as the toys started to become human like because of jealousy (a human sin) that took control over them and have blood running through their body, turning them into deformed monstrosities that may or may not resemble human or perhaps begin to be re-born as a human baby, taking a form of a slug-like creature or embryo.
And as we progress through the story we get to choose our path, we may forge the split parts of the now tainted soul and consume it and live in delusion that everything has gone back to normal, eventually completely losing our mind, OR destroying the soul, with which we as a teddy will die but that will also put end to it all, stopping the spread of corruption and eventually sacrificing ourselves to save the world and save the kid or what not.
I think a style like the no rest for the wicked game would fit great, or just the usual soulslike like in Lies of P, soulslike style with a unique art style/ theme.
Yep the art style could be similar to little nightmares and souls like combat system could actually work with a teddy bear body. They could make other toys side characters with there own quests. Have wepons scatterd across the house and the bosses as well. it could be like shadow of the collusus where you have to go to diffrent rooms and kill diffrent boses. The game could be straight fire.
Imagine a hot detergent swamp filled with zombies which are actually older stuffed animals who fought for years before getting shredded by the monsters and now their bodies rise to fight anything that tries to escape the swamp.
Imagine an NPC villain who was actually a stuffed animal who was mistreated by his kid, being tortured, broken or shredded and substituted by other toys. And another who now kicks other stuffed animals off cliffs when he gets the opportunity.
Imagine a teddy bear looking like solaire, who is actually the bear of a shy kid who is bullied for "being too old to keep a stuffed animal by their side", but the kid actually knows what stuffed solaire does for him and the horrors it prevents.
We are kinda saving baby Mergo from being kidnapped by fighting monsters. Bloodborne is basically already what OP described, if you squint your eyes a bit. lol
Honestly sounds cool as fuck. It's a cool idea, has plenty of potential in how it's portrayed.
It's the kind of thing that when you think your mind runs wild with plenty of ideas
I have a screenplay written out inspired by this image alone. I'm now realizing since I've had the idea for so long it's probably so unoriginal at this point in time 😪
Of course, what about where you play as the monster defending the child so you get the kid yourself?
Feels more in line with what fromsoft does, they gotta make it depresso
The teddy bear is actually the soul of the kids brother who previously died to the monsters. The only way to save the kid is to either sacrifice yourself in a never ending cycle of fighting, or to scar the kid so they no longer have dreams. Sufficiently depressing yet?
How about:
1. Dawn Arrives: you’ve defeated the monsters this night, and the child is awake, but another night looms (Yharnam ending)
2. Dream No More: you destroy the source of the monsters, but with it the child’s sense of wonder and innocence
3. Sweet Nightmares: you succumb to the allure of the dark, becoming the very nightmares you swore to stop.
4. Eyes of a Child: you swap places with the child, awakening to a new morning with fresh eyes, your precious teddy bear with slightly damp button eyes.
I would if the monsters were also stuffed animal themed; but dark and twisted. And the child being protected would have to have multiple game mechanics.
This would be sick. I just like good soulslike games, so if it's good I'll play the heck out of it.
Currently eagerly anticipating Stellar Blade and Another Crab's Treasure, the later of which is definitely cutesy like this idea could be.
The designs for this could go hard. I'm thinking something like the "Numeralia" cards from Yu-Gi-Oh!, or the Ba'al designs from Bravely Default"
I would play a game where I'm a decapitated octopus head fighting fish to get back to the coral reef where my headless body is getting devoured by starfish as long as it's well executed.
the first boss is the monster from under the bed; then you go under the bed to find the rest and it's a whole other dimension of captured children to be rescued.
I would need more info if I were to ever consider getting a game but I do really like the concept and would be interested in a project like that. Lots of interesting things could end up in a world like that.
Only if it had a heart wrenching ending where the bear died after a long fight after the boy falls into a coma due to one of the monsters getting to him as the bear was occupied. It could have left, but the bear decided he didn’t have the right to run away after failing the kid and so he fought to the last monster, Halo Reach style
Me and brother had a dumb idea for a souls like, you play as a lizard and the world is a backyard and the bosses are our cats(our cats hunt lizards on occasion)
Expand on the idea some-
The monsters turn out to be real and eventually your owner wakes up and helps you fight the final boss of the game: Your Dad who has a milk jug as a shield and a belt whip
Hell yeah!! I love playing different types of life forms in games. Especially if the game was really dark and nightmare ish. Maybe have the vibe like Lies Of P.
If it is actually a good game the idea is good .Just turning into a horror game would be pretty bad .Since the last 10 years every horror game takes place in a
A)Market,Shop,Fast Food
B)Toy Factory,Movie Factory
“FOUL TEDDY, leave these foolish lullaby’s to rest.”
“Thought you for dead? No matter, lay out your toys then.”
“I am Melania blade of Mac & Cheese.”
“Brave Teddy, Twas nobly fought.”
“May Playtime take the world, MAY PLAYTIME TAKE THE WORLD.”
Fuq Yeah. dark fantasy where the the dream realm is left in ruins in a shroud of darkness cavers all as nightmare abominations lurk. But an bear warrior awakens from a bygone era to battle the darkness to restore dream realm to its peaceful place or plunge it further into the darkness (cause you gotta have some multiple bad and good endings)
Yes, and make the world spaces all souls like in how grim they are, but have a pink elephant companion named "Mr. Fluffles" help you out and actually be quiet beefy.
Yes, also make the teddy bears magic work of love and imagination. Also the monsters be absolute nightmare fuel. Also make the teddy bear bleed glitter when damaged.
Are you secretly [The Rock trying to capitalize on your poor purchase](https://www.theverge.com/2013/1/25/3914760/dwayne-johnson-movie-deal-based-on-deviantart-drawing-artist-responds) from last decade?
Probably not. Very neat idea, but a lot of why I love From Soft games is the art direction. If it's taking place INSIDE the kids dreams then maybe. They could even have different game segments have different designers based on the kind of dream the kid is having.
No, more than likely not. I love from softwares unique and interesting worlds and monsters. Desolate, decrepit, and worlds a shell of their former self. A teddy bear game with monsters seems like it would be limited to a bedroom or house setting and I feel that is a limit I wouldn’t like.
Do I get to have a comically oversized colossal sword 5x the size of the teddy bear?
yes, except it’s just a sword lol
B O n k
You get a comically large toy hammer that squeaks when you hit someone
If it does chunky damage (which would be funny) I take it
Squeak (-2345 health)
Charged attacks make the rubber chicken squeak noise
HUUUAAAGHHAAAAA (-5423 health)
thatd be hilarious
Normal damage Cutty damage Stabby damage Chunky damage
Yes please. Give it now
Zweihänder
the moonlight stuffed sword?
OP, any chance you're a fan of the TTRPG that is literally this exact concept?
what’s TTRPG?
A table top RPG. Same type of thing as Dungeons & Dragon's. There's one called Dreamland Expedition where you literally play as stuffed animals fights of your kid's nightmares.
Ohhhhh! Unfortunately I know about D&D I just haven’t played it cuz all my friends aren’t nerd like me
Get better friends
You can always look if there is a local game store that does public dnd
Stuffed fables is the same idea, produced by plaid hat games. Amazing for getting kids into games
You know I think Suffed Fables is the one I was thinking of, but Dreamland Expeditions came up first on a Google search.
Where can I get this game?
I gotchu https://dsteph.itch.io/the-dreamland-expedition
Nice
Ooo, gonna have to check that out.
That sounds cool as hell. I would love to play a game about that
How about you defeat bosses because they stole your soul that the kid has given you by loving you, which was then robbed by other jellous toys that deformed into monsters because of stealing (commiting a sin). W story for the game
Someone please, i need it
you should be a game developer
Yeah thanks, now i cant play anything else because i wanna play this.
I think a style like the no rest for the wicked game would fit great, or just the usual soulslike like in Lies of P, soulslike style with a unique art style/ theme.
The OP and you have cooked very much. love it
![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy)
That gif is clean af
I think you just cooked
fr? :)
Yep the art style could be similar to little nightmares and souls like combat system could actually work with a teddy bear body. They could make other toys side characters with there own quests. Damn, I’m actually upset this doesn’t already exist.
This is giving me so many ideas for my next D&D campaign
Its absolute kino, start working on it or pitch it to your really rich friend
ah, I have no rich friends and no skills in game development 😔
So Bloodborne playing as teddy bear? Sure. Bloodborne is just slaying Gehrman’s nightmare, he’s just old, what’s the difference if it’s a kid.
We are kinda saving baby Mergo from being kidnapped by fighting monsters. Bloodborne is basically already what OP described, if you squint your eyes a bit. lol
Teddy Bear with a fucking GLOCK
Honestly sounds cool as fuck. It's a cool idea, has plenty of potential in how it's portrayed. It's the kind of thing that when you think your mind runs wild with plenty of ideas
![gif](giphy|wNlks0ID1igO4)
A similar game already exists, it is called Among the Sleep.
oh but that’s a horror game. I’m talking about making a soulsborne
And besides, you play as the child, not the teddy bear
Gameplay wise it isn't nothing revolutionary but the ending hits like a truck, I remember playing it many years ago when I was just a kid.
Who do i have to nut in for this to be born
![gif](giphy|WRuBiZKB6xgsS9DrFA|downsized)
Oh yeah. That would be very cool. I think with a proper souls makeover this would be amazing.
yeah you just cooked, then again I would play a soulsborne game where a taco bell burrito is fighting through the digestive track to become a turd
you just cooked too mr, cuz I would hella play that 🤣
Oh shit that's an amazing metaphor for the "link the fire" endings of all three Dark Souls games...
Link the fire sauce.
I have a screenplay written out inspired by this image alone. I'm now realizing since I've had the idea for so long it's probably so unoriginal at this point in time 😪
As long as the game isn’t made, your idea isn’t unoriginal. :)
Seems like an indie souls-like that really doesn't fit fromsoft
Amazing concept
A cool concept indeed, but just too many soulsborne games out there.....
There are exactly 6.
Well there’s all of the soulslikes like Lies of P.
And a lot of them are dope, a lot are bad, I agree. But OP said Soulsborne, not Soulslike.
that sounds awesome
:D
I'm honestly sold.
Aye there you go! You are on the right track!
How about: 1. Dawn Arrives: you’ve defeated the monsters this night, and the child is awake, but another night looms (Yharnam ending) 2. Dream No More: you destroy the source of the monsters, but with it the child’s sense of wonder and innocence 3. Sweet Nightmares: you succumb to the allure of the dark, becoming the very nightmares you swore to stop. 4. Eyes of a Child: you swap places with the child, awakening to a new morning with fresh eyes, your precious teddy bear with slightly damp button eyes.
Perfect for the endings!
Hell yeah
i love this concept but i just don’t think it would work with a fromsoft vibe
Hell yes. I’ve thought about this artwork (and some of their other pieces) at least once a week for the past decade lol.
I would if the monsters were also stuffed animal themed; but dark and twisted. And the child being protected would have to have multiple game mechanics.
that is one of the best concepts ive heard, and it would be so fun to see how you can use different things around the house to use as weapons...
100%
This would be sick. I just like good soulslike games, so if it's good I'll play the heck out of it. Currently eagerly anticipating Stellar Blade and Another Crab's Treasure, the later of which is definitely cutesy like this idea could be. The designs for this could go hard. I'm thinking something like the "Numeralia" cards from Yu-Gi-Oh!, or the Ba'al designs from Bravely Default"
I want a courage the cowardly dog from software game
The darkest tales is the game you're looking for
I would play a game where I'm a decapitated octopus head fighting fish to get back to the coral reef where my headless body is getting devoured by starfish as long as it's well executed.
Feels like Alice: The Madness Returns honestly. Might be better in that genre or art style.
the first boss is the monster from under the bed; then you go under the bed to find the rest and it's a whole other dimension of captured children to be rescued.
I thought this was a monster tucking in his daughter at night and now I'm a little disappointed that it may not be.
sounds freaking awesome! I would love to play something like that :0
Not a soulsborne game but have you ever played Among the Sleep?
I would play this 💯
You had me at “souls.”
Final boss: the kid but a teenager
Do I get to wear the hat?
That’s a brilliant idea
No
No
Basically sekiro but wolf
but wolf?
Totally yes. Double yes.
I would most definitely play a soulsbourne game.
Absolutely.
Yeah that sounds awesome. I would play
For different level and visual design, you could enter nightmares and fight bosses there. That way you could have all kind of different sceneries.
I’m surprised no one mentioned SCP yet cuz there’s one literally about this
No
I will purchase literally any Souls game
No
I'd play anything with Fromsoft's name on it at this point.
Absolutely
100% yes I mean I loved Lies of P so why not
I remember the first time I saw this image 9 years ago. I think there is also a book "Stuff of legend" inspired by this.
You had me at soulsborne. I'm in bonus. I get to be a teddy bear, love the idea, and would 100% be interested in that type of game
Yes
Yes. Yes I would.
if this monster is in it, hell yeah
I would need more info if I were to ever consider getting a game but I do really like the concept and would be interested in a project like that. Lots of interesting things could end up in a world like that.
Yes
Yes.
Nope
Neowiz would be more suitable for that kinda game.
hell ya
Only if it had a heart wrenching ending where the bear died after a long fight after the boy falls into a coma due to one of the monsters getting to him as the bear was occupied. It could have left, but the bear decided he didn’t have the right to run away after failing the kid and so he fought to the last monster, Halo Reach style
Now I want it
Me and brother had a dumb idea for a souls like, you play as a lizard and the world is a backyard and the bosses are our cats(our cats hunt lizards on occasion)
On the sixth word of your title I was already answering yes.
I’d play the fuck outta this.
The answer is yes. The answer is always yes. ‘Will you play a souls-like…”…sir, stop right there, the answer is yes.
I would play any soulslike game that is well made
Oh ya I’d love that it’s sounds great
See no evil, bear no evil?
Well I do now. Little Nightmares but I have a fucking sword. Make it Bloodborne and give the teddybear a gun.
Expand on the idea some- The monsters turn out to be real and eventually your owner wakes up and helps you fight the final boss of the game: Your Dad who has a milk jug as a shield and a belt whip
Yes
Yes, as long as the lore, gameplay and characters are good. If it has a fair maiden it's a huge plus.
Hell yeah!! I love playing different types of life forms in games. Especially if the game was really dark and nightmare ish. Maybe have the vibe like Lies Of P.
Only if the final boss is under the bed
Yes.
This is the best idea yet. Instead of armor you just have doll parts you swap out with different attributes.
That game would go so fucking hard
No
If it is actually a good game the idea is good .Just turning into a horror game would be pretty bad .Since the last 10 years every horror game takes place in a A)Market,Shop,Fast Food B)Toy Factory,Movie Factory
This fucking concept should sound lame but it just hits all the spots and goes into peak fiction, cooked a whole ass gourmet buffet brother
Well the last one had me playing as Pinocchio fighting off other puppets to save humans and I had a blast with that. So why not?
Somebody make a sekiro skin that’s a teddy bear
Sounds awesome
i wish I could play as a teddy bear that fought children, NOW that's a unique idea.
Absolutely! That's a really cool idea!
Does my failure mean the kid gets eviscerated? Because that would be pretty metal.
Bro, literally had this idea as i was going to sleep a week ago. I think would be a huge hit
As long as it's a cut scene after you die and not like the kid is an in game entity you have to protect. Nobody likes an escort mission
YES
No
“FOUL TEDDY, leave these foolish lullaby’s to rest.” “Thought you for dead? No matter, lay out your toys then.” “I am Melania blade of Mac & Cheese.” “Brave Teddy, Twas nobly fought.” “May Playtime take the world, MAY PLAYTIME TAKE THE WORLD.”
Sounds really bad.
Such a cool premise, we could be traveling through the kids nightmares helping them Hage sweet dreams!
I save this image every time I come across it.
I'll play any souls game game as long as the combat is fun and responsive
I would.
I would not play a soulsborne game where you don't get to create a character
Nope
No. Not at all.
I would play a souls game about doing my taxes if it was made by fromsoftware.
Fuq Yeah. dark fantasy where the the dream realm is left in ruins in a shroud of darkness cavers all as nightmare abominations lurk. But an bear warrior awakens from a bygone era to battle the darkness to restore dream realm to its peaceful place or plunge it further into the darkness (cause you gotta have some multiple bad and good endings)
The final boss would be the kids abusive parent
Yes where is it. Take my money.
Idk I’d have to see the game first
Hell yes!
Yes, and make the world spaces all souls like in how grim they are, but have a pink elephant companion named "Mr. Fluffles" help you out and actually be quiet beefy.
If it’s Fromsoft then the you yourself will end the kid’s life cause that’s the better than whatever evil that is now within the kid.
Yes, also make the teddy bears magic work of love and imagination. Also the monsters be absolute nightmare fuel. Also make the teddy bear bleed glitter when damaged.
Any chance you got that idea from that one SCP that does exactly that? Seems like it could be pretty fun!
That actually sounds like a cool ass concept hahaha
The Darkest Tales is very similar to this concept. Kind of a cool game.
This is an scp
Nah.
Actually the teddy was trying to assassinate the child and his pet monster came to protect him.
I’d literally play any FromSoft soulsborne until they make one that flops. But for over a decade, every release had only gotten better
I’d play anything fromsoft creates organically. Miyazaki will always have my money. Literally hasn’t missed once.
Stuffed, but with swords instead of guns.
Yes
Lean more on Shadow of the Colossus with soulsborne art for boss/enemies and childish items to fight them with and you have a winner.
Yeah
souls games aren't nearly as one-note as this idea so good luck keeping people's interest
YES
That sounds epic
Are you secretly [The Rock trying to capitalize on your poor purchase](https://www.theverge.com/2013/1/25/3914760/dwayne-johnson-movie-deal-based-on-deviantart-drawing-artist-responds) from last decade?
Teddy Wrecksbin
Nah
I’d play a soulsborne game where I play as a monster fighting off kids to protect a teddy bear.
Probably not. Very neat idea, but a lot of why I love From Soft games is the art direction. If it's taking place INSIDE the kids dreams then maybe. They could even have different game segments have different designers based on the kind of dream the kid is having.
Literally the plot of beyond the sleep
I love the idea. Please make it split-screen co-op so that my girlfriend and I can play this game together, and I guarantee you have a sale.
No cause that sounds stupid
It would sound fun!
No, more than likely not. I love from softwares unique and interesting worlds and monsters. Desolate, decrepit, and worlds a shell of their former self. A teddy bear game with monsters seems like it would be limited to a bedroom or house setting and I feel that is a limit I wouldn’t like.
