Noooo did yall bully that guy?! 😭 I saw that shortly after he posted and thought it was ugly as sin but I didn’t ever go back to check the comments later
Yeah I’d agree honestly, after looking a bit more closely the clothes themselves aren’t awful, but the cut of the jeans just doesn’t flatter him at all
Look at his tree-trunks for legs, and he’s probably on the shorter side considering the thick fold job at the bottom. There’s no pair of jeans out there that’s gonna fit him right off the rack.
I agree he needs to have them tailored, but I’m sure there are jeans out there with a short enough inseam and a wide enough fit around the thighs that could fit him “good enough” without any alterations. In the end I agree (especially as a shorter dude myself) that tailoring is the way.
If a shorter / huskier person can find a pair of jeans that don’t cling to their thighs and then flair out at the knee then straight > skinny for sure.
Otherwise if it clings and loosens at the knee down then skinny >> straight for sure.
The irony is that the 90s were the JNCOs decade and 2000's brought us low rise slim/skinny. I lived it! I feel like I'm being gaslit lol, Abercrombie & Fitch was king of the mall with slim fit everything.
We're getting there. I remember JNCOs were a mid to late 90s thing (into the 2000s). Skinny fit was closer to 2010's with the hipster and lumberjack stuff.
We're still in that early 2000's y2k era. Colorful and vibrant or goth/emo and moody. Jnco, FUBU, Sean John era.
I expect a luxury diamond encrusted puka shell necklace sometime soon. Then full Abercrombie to get into the mid 2000s, then skinny jeans and hipsters by the 2030s. It's typically a 25ish year gap.
It’s not that they’re not skinny. He would look awful in skinny jeans. It’s just that the fit is supposed to be loose and straight legged but it’s just hugging him in the wrong areas and it just makes the whole thing look wack. Just my opeenion of course
Can't win with jeans on social media right now. I've seen people insist that slim and skinny are the same thing, both icky. Stacked jeans are out. Then I see straight fit getting roasted too.
Baggy came back, I remember, but now it's chaos...there is no consensus whether we're in a baggy or skinny era. Just people trying to dunk on anything that moves.
90s fit for jeans are in right now but definitely depends on your style. If you can pull it off it works.
I don’t think straight fit or regular fit will ever go out of style. There’s a reason 501s are still around
90s fit wasn't even in style in the 90s. Pretty sure the fit was called "Jeans". It was more about stone wash or not stone wash silvertabs. Then there was the brief JNCO scene.
Agreed. I think people forget that whats-in is hardly a consensus and multiple trends can exist at the same time. And even then there’s people who don’t really care about trends and just wear what they think looks good on them
Most people have no idea why something isn't looking good to them. It's one part culture, and another part aesthetics.
Trends, cultural shifts, are easy to hide behind. If your outfit looks like shit aesthetically, well, at least it's on trend. Right now, wider fits are on trend, so easy enough if you don't want to think. Doesn't stop you from looking like shit though, and that's what causes the death of trends; getting your vision saturated every day with poor, trendy fits.
Aesthetically speaking, here's the thing... most people don't really know how to style either skinny, or wide fit jeans. They're the hardest to style. If you want things to be easy, stick to slim straight, classic workwear style straight, cowboy cut, or regular taper fits. Those are easy, they line up in an aesthetically pleasing way for most people, in most outfits.
The problem with skinny jeans is that your proportions can be completely out of whack, and make you look uncomfortable, or really top heavy. Like a lollipop with two boards coming out the bottom.
The problem with wide legs is also proportions, but we also have to add other dimensions; weight, and drape. Skinny jeans contour to your form, so those things are not as much of an issue as long as you can get a good feel for your proportions overall. Drape is a whole other beast. Jeans are heavy, they don't really drape in a classic sense. This adds a ton of "weight" to your outfit, and as a result, you need to work to try and balance out the top half, and it's actually a bit harder to do that than with skinny fits.
Overall cohesion is arguably more important with wide fits or you end up as an ugly, shapeless blob, without any visual interest. Or, one lacking any dignity (think literal toddler proportions). If you're in decent shape, slimmer fits can do a lot of the work for you. If you wear a long, boxy shirt, and wide jeans, it's hard to not look dumpy.
So, yeah, people will continue to dunk on shitty fits as long as people try to be like models without putting as much thought into their outfits as the models wardrobe designer did.

There's a reason why people moved away from wearing jeans/denim. Everything became "this way is the right way" or you have the guy that smells like literal shit saying "well you aren't supposed to wash your jeans". Are you just releasing wet farts into your jeans and not washing them?
Sure raw denim you can wash it less to get the wear marks in, but those stretchy jeans smell AWFUL, they're not like full denim. Stop bringing wafts of shit into the room. You smoke? Guess what your jeans smell like cigs, ALL THE TIME.
Stretchy is an outlier of Raw Denim, far from the norm.
I seldomly wash my raws. I am pretty sure they don't smell. They pass a sniff test, and when they don't or they get stained, they get washed.
Not sure where you live that people have moved away from wearing jeans, but the majority of people where I live wear jeans out October - April.
When the last guy posted his and I read the comments I felt like 90% of this sub is stuck in the early 2010's. Straight/wide fit is what's trendy right now and definitely not skinny jeans.
If you want to wear skinny jeans forever then go for it but just know you look ridiculous trying to clown on someone who is actually wearing a more current cut than you are in a "fashion" sub.
Slim (not skinny) with a slight taper or straight looks good to me for the last 14 years. '00 - '10 was all about slim bootcut.
Baggy in the top block looks frumpy to me, but who knows how my thoughts on that will change. Like, look at suits from the early to mid 90s, how in the hell will that ever come back in style?
Having said that, I don't shit on people's style. People were being dicks in that other thread but it just made the OP seem really damned cool by taking it in stride. The sheet for a curtain comments were damned funny though.
Someone downvoted you but you're objectively right. Levi's 501 is a straight cut and there is literally no time in the last ~80 years that they would have been seen as out of fashion.
This sub is quickly becoming one of my faves. Light roasts and good deals. Keep it up boys. Btw I think the Japanese Denim looks good. Feel free to cook me for that opinion though lol.
This looks like a nice straight leg to me. If you got them hemmed they would look even better. Good luck convincing anyone on this sub that anything slightly more relaxed than a 501 isn’t baggy.

I can't buy J Crew stuff new because of a personal creed I swore to several years ago, but, hands down, they are the most affordable producer of high quality, well fitting and timely clothing in the market.
I get asked all the time by people about what to buy for weddings etc, and for both women and men, it's like, if you don't want to work much at it, "buy a JCrew shirt dress and call it a day" or "buy a Jcrew suit with the best fabric you can get (touch it, you'll know) and call it a day" in both cases, know a tailor.
But really, I buy their khakis used all the time and the quality of their jeans, for mall clothes, is exceptional.

This is what happens when you skip leg day
Get them tailored
Every single guy has one of those black racks for saving space and storage thqt ahould be in yhe basement or garage but has it in a finished room.
This guy is the target audience for every Esquire "'what to buy your man boyfriend for father's day" list
Damn I missed out
I can't buy J Crew stuff new because of a personal creed I swore to several years ago, but, hands down, they are the most affordable producer of high quality, well fitting and timely clothing in the market.
Not my style but you do you bruh. Fuck the haters who comment about it negatively
Yeah, I understood some of those words
