I should rewatch Buffy. It was so 90s, and super campy... but so fun too. And of course there's Spike, one of the greatest villains/antiheroes in any TV show ever.
Who Joss Whedon apparently hated. Keeping Spike around was a studio call.
Edit: just to be clear, I was talking about Joss hating a living Spike, not James Marsters himself.
I wonder if it was how he "hated" Spike or how much he hated being told what to do on his own very popular show and took it out on James Marsters, like he had any control of what the exc did..
According to Marsters, Spike was supposed to be a one off villain, and JW was against Buffy having any sort of positive relationship with vampires, because it killed the metaphor of an adolescent handling their problems.
[Here](https://youtu.be/hynZ2j9M9IE?si=WYDAa0p63pWGwj5v) is the clip I saw of Marsters explaining it.
That episode is the most realest thing in the entire show. I’ll never watch it again, but from personal experience, that episode is more documentary than drama.
Wasn't impervious but couldn't be killed by weapon forged by man, all they could manage to do was cutting him to pieces to stop him from ending humanity. In the past it took an entire army with swords to accomplish it but Buffy and her rocket launcher where a little more efficient.
Yeah. And they were able to get it only because Xander still had memories of being a soldier from when he dressed up as an army guy for Halloween and someone cursed all the costumes so people turned into what they were dressed as
Yup one of the best buffy episodes ever. They keep hyping this guy up by saying no mortal weapon can defeat and the ingenious twist is that you stop and think about how the text was written when bow and arrows were the best we could do and so Buffy shows up with modern tech and rocks his shit.
Damn Buffy was a great show.
Clips of Buffy fitting the rocket launcher were later used on the 24 news cycle when some politicians were crusading against violence on television. Just the shot of her raising the weapon and no context. On repeat. A lot. I'm pretty sure it was a Columbine reaction, and even though the episode aired a year earlier it was the best they could find from the show that involved modern weapons in a school setting.
Some politicians really hated that show.
They fully removed an episode from airing after Columbine because it sort of implied a school shooting. But the teenager who took a gun to school was actually going to use it to committ suicide. So an episode about mental health and suicide got yanked when it was actually >!the lunch lady putting rat poison in the jello that was going to kill kids!<
I definitely remember the media complaining about the show around that time though because in the season finale Buffy and the gang actually told the whole school about the monster that was going to attack at graduation so they were all armed under their graduation robes. But it was all axes and swords. Lots of people went nuts about "kids bringing weapons to school" in the show
That sounds right. I recall the Mayor also saying something about feeling like they should be wearing trenchcoats in the first episode you referenced. (For those too young, the Columbine shooters wore trenchcoats, but I'm the scene in question it was clearly meant to imply a cloak and dagger situation, and as we all know spies wore trenchcoats)
Also Azrael in Gotham who was quite tough and even the bullets didn't kill him. He was about to kill Bruce, Gordon and Alfred when Penguin came and shot him with a bazooka.
Gotham was such a gloriously stupid show. There was this big impending fight scene, the climax, and Penguin swoops in with a rocket launcher from offscreen.
Sent this clip to my dm in DnD when he was talking about a demi god thats been planning on conquering a kingdom for like 10,000 years, he just said 'i know exactly what that is, im the dm, i make the rules'
Yes. The Judge. Something about the image of a short teenage girl with a giant bazooka rocket launcher thing was hilarious to me the first time I watched the show. Really thought out of the box with that one 😂😂
Reminds me of Pratchett talking about Doom:
> Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil... prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon...
Not a problem OP. I've been going through some health stuff for awhile and am working out of a bad depression spell. Thanks again for making me smile today. These things matter more than a lot of people realize.
Reminds me of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A demon was summoned. A demon that had to be imprisoned 300 years ago, because no mortal weapon can cause permanent damage to him. Humans have no means to harm him, and now he will rule the earth.
Buffy and the gang thought real hard on it.
He arose and gave his speech, stated as such as i said.
Buffy used a rocket launcher to blow that fucker up.
The End.
lol
Reminds me of Joel Haver who has such a similar sense of humour (and art style) I’m unable to figure out if that’s actually you
https://youtu.be/iP468OEln4U?si=VevCUoyQIDE5mChR
I was hoping I wouldn't recognize the voice as Joel and it'd be some new endeavor, I mean that should have been expected from him sharing the technique
Yes. It's made with some kind of a free rotoscoping program, and often with some VHS filters on top. You can search for 'Joel Haver animation tutorial'—he's the first one to get popular with this style.
Is this inspired by the [Tony Lazuto](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP468OEln4U&ab_channel=JoelHaver) guys? I thought it was them until you said something.
> Not to take away from OP
I'll do it. I'll take away from OP.
It was a good video, but obvious that he's trying to capitalize off of Joel's success.
It's one thing to use the art style, but he's completely copying the entire format, and I believe even tried to make himself look like Joel and gave himself no lines so that people would have a hard time knowing it wasn't Joel.
I did have a hard time knowing it wasn't Joel. While OP is 100% copying the art style, Joel is very open about sharing his style for others to use (he even built a tutorial about it).
> Joel is very open about sharing his style for others to use (he even built a tutorial about it).
Yes, I am aware. Art style is only a single piece though.
Character style, comedic style, and a lack of lines from the protagonist make me feel that OP is betting on people assuming it's the same channel or is an associated production.
Pretty sure the guy with the gun is also Gus Johnson’s “imbiamba jones” as well.
I originally thought this was a Gus johnson / Joel haver Imbiamba Jones crossover.
I'm not sure what you mean, this guy is Joel Haver.
I thought he was a different guy than Joel Haver, but when I watched it and saw his profile picture looked like Joel Haver and saw the content was Joel Haver's content, I realized this guy is Joel Haver.
It is like in that show undercover boss where the person decides to go out in the wild to be a normal person and not be recognized for the powerful person they are. But as usual the disguise failed.
Oh man you’re not Joel Haver or Matthew McClesky? That’s great news! Always looking for more content like this. And thanks for giving the shoutout to Joel in your description.
I don't mind the animation style being similar, but the comedy pacing and voice acting was also very similar to Joel. Makes it hard to distinguish as unique from Joel.
I like it as well. OP has credited Joel haver.
It’s just that it’s like watching a cartoon that looks just like The Simpsons but it’s made by someone else.
Yeah either that or its some software that basically fills in key art which is why the animation keeps overlapping with everything and looks crude. Or AI rotoscoping.
Honestly for the kind of content people produce today, this feels right out of 2002.
This reminds me of a Superjail episode where someone awakens an ancient God and then immediately shoots it in the chest and it just dies kinda pathetically crawling and bleeding. Very funny in the moment but now that I describe it ...
What an embarrassing anachronism at 00:51. The mummy says "BCE" (meaning Before Common Era), but the BCE nomenclature did not start being used until the 19th Century, far after the mummy was entombed. I sure hope someone was fired for this blunder!

Yep the judge. “No weapon forged by man”
"That was then, this is now"
"What's that do?"
"uh, arm..."
Gonna have to check that out!

Except by then she already had a positive relationship with Angel - a vampire
Right, but I've read from random internet super fans that Angel as love interest was thrust on him as well, so this was pushing further over the line
Spinoff Angel is good too.
Just skip ‘The Body’ episode.
Mornting makes me dehydrate out of my face like that episode
That episode is the most realest thing in the entire show. I’ll never watch it again, but from personal experience, that episode is more documentary than drama.
I wasn't a fan of the Jesse Ventura cameo either.
why'd you pick one with such low volume? https://youtu.be/WkykWGkv0Mg?t=67
[link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkykWGkv0Mg&t=82s)
Brian Thompson has such a distinct face you can tell it's him under a metric ton of make up
Descriptive, not prescriptive.
Wasn't impervious but couldn't be killed by weapon forged by man, all they could manage to do was cutting him to pieces to stop him from ending humanity. In the past it took an entire army with swords to accomplish it but Buffy and her rocket launcher where a little more efficient.
Technically, a rocket launcher isn't forged, so it could kill him.
Man, Buffy would have wrecked the ring wraiths.
IIRC the rocket didn’t kill him though
Just aerosolized him into tiny bits?
Yeah. And they were able to get it only because Xander still had memories of being a soldier from when he dressed up as an army guy for Halloween and someone cursed all the costumes so people turned into what they were dressed as

Ethan Rayne! That's the Halloween episode, foundational to a lot of cool crossovers
He brought the right tool for the job.
If i recall correctly, they also just used a shitload of explosives on the Mayor.
Well, gosh!

Phenomenal game might I say
Phenomenal writer, too.
My biggest question… how did he know it was 2600 BCE when he was mummified?
Didn't you hear him? They were at the pinnacle of human technology.
*This also explains how his English was so fluent, of course
Damn, that’s a really good point.
They were counting down for somebody's birthday probably.
Lol, I'm just glad he learned to speak English, otherwise this clip wouldn't make sense.
Boy I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder
Okay, I laughed at this. Thanks OP
Hey thanks for letting me know friend :)
I love everything this guy does.
Not a problem OP. I've been going through some health stuff for awhile and am working out of a bad depression spell. Thanks again for making me smile today. These things matter more than a lot of people realize.
I ain’t your pal friend.
I ain't your friend, chum
Yeah first laugh from Reddit in at least a day. Well done
I love that the 12,024 future guy has a Kiwi accent…like that dialect will conquer the world. Sweet as…I’d be ok with that.
We can dream, can't we
The vowel shift is REAL
I mean, Bluey is giving kids around the world an Australian accent. Maybe Bluey 2 is gonna be Kiwi

I think it was stated as no \*forged weapon. And Xander was like "What if we use a weapon that isn't forged?"
Machined weapon > forged weapon > cast weapon.
It was both. Technically, a rocket launcher isn't forged. Also, his prophecy was largely outdated.
Hell yeah Buffy!
Dude. That was hilarious. What’s it from?
Thank you bro! Appreciate it! [It`s from my Youtube page](https://youtu.be/ebjNf4I88nk?si=_OkvZVCWVROQlKpH)!

Haha, I'm not him but I take that as a huge compliment! This was made following his animation tutorial!
So awesome how he inspired others to make vids in this style, you killed it with this one
I was hoping I wouldn't recognize the voice as Joel and it'd be some new endeavor, I mean that should have been expected from him sharing the technique
I watched that tutorial when it came out and was in awe. Seeing you do this is wild. It was super fun.
It captures a lot of his comic style too. Can't have too many Havers!
Weird. I just assumed this was him.
fuck..those were 3 years ago..
Reminds me of [Goat-on-a-Stick](https://www.youtube.com/@Goat-on-a-Stick) animations :3 \*updated to link to goat-on-a-stick youtube\*
I`ll check them out!
Is this animation like some kind of rotoscoping? It looks interesting.

Your RPG clips were awsome! To kill or not to kill the rat, thats the question.
How do you do the animation?
Very cool animation. It looks rotoscoped. Is it mapped onto video footage?
Pretty sure OP is using the style and tutorial of Joel Haver. Not to take away from OP, good video :)
> Not to take away from OP I'll do it. I'll take away from OP. It was a good video, but obvious that he's trying to capitalize off of Joel's success. It is like in that show undercover boss where the person decides to go out in the wild to be a normal person and not be recognized for the powerful person they are. But as usual the disguise failed.
Rotoscoping was my first thought too as the animation is so precise and fluid.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” - Arthur Clarke
Some ancient demon junk at 1:55ish
A little something for the eagle eyed viewers
[Trying to build up a wee YouTube Portfolio](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebjNf4I88nk) with more skits and the like!
Oh man you’re not Joel Haver or Matthew McClesky? That’s great news! Always looking for more content like this. And thanks for giving the shoutout to Joel in your description.
I felt it only right after rewatching his tutorial about fifty times haha
Have y'all found a more efficient method to make vids in this style or is it still absolutely insane?
It’s a good bit but I can’t get past the Joel haver styling.
OP credits Joel in their video description so they're being honest about the influence.
I it is nice to know that. It’s not something you see watching it on reddit.
Joel Haver also has a video explaining how he does it in detail so that animation can be more accessible to whoever wants to try it.
Joel posted a tutorial on how to make these, I wonder if op used it
He said he rewatched that tutorial more than fifty times, so yes.
I don't mind the animation style being similar, but the comedy pacing and voice acting was also very similar to Joel. Makes it hard to distinguish as unique from Joel.
Fair!
I like the styling. There’s something about it I find entertaining. Not sure why.
I like it as well. OP has credited Joel haver. It’s just that it’s like watching a cartoon that looks just like The Simpsons but it’s made by someone else.
Joel made this style available for content creators to use for videos just like this. I'm happy to see others carrying the torch for him.
I always wondered how Joel does this?
I`m not Joel, but he did inspire this and has a pretty sweet [tutorial on his channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq_KOmXyVDo)!
This wasn't Joel.
Is this AI generated? Reason I ask is the weird changes around 0:47. Definitely not drawing since stuff randomly appears and disappears.
Yeah either that or its some software that basically fills in key art which is why the animation keeps overlapping with everything and looks crude. Or AI rotoscoping. Honestly for the kind of content people produce today, this feels right out of 2002.
The moaning cry after he gets it at the end is a premium sound. lol.
Haha thank you
So it's not Joel stiver?
No but heavily inspired - his [tutorial is super informative](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq_KOmXyVDo)!
“Piss off ghost!”
Korg!
Well done btw.
Thank you Penguin!
How did you animate this? Looks like a layer on top of a video
They could've spent more time allowing whatever program they were using to adapt to movement. Its a bit rough
Little bit yeah haha - I'll do better next time!
Great attitude! I'm sorry for being so critical! I should've included it's honestly a great skit. My eyes just hurt a bit haha
Apology not necessary! You weren't mean with it and criticism is always welcome
This is baaaad
Rotoscope goes crazy
Very funny. But him walking off set calmly while being laser blasted was a bit off-script. Maybe cut it a second earlier.
If y'all don't follow Joel Haver, you should
Loved it. Thanks OP.
My pleasure!
That was a good laugh right there. Thanks OP, good work!
Thank you!
That's quite funny, nice OP!
I enjoyed the hell out of that!
I'm really glad :D
The ending was my favorite.
Is OP the guy in youtube who "animates" using live actors (himself) then turn it into cartoon-like clips?
No that's Joel Haver - but I made this following his tutorial!
Haha lost it at the magical light instruments moment lol
Haha I'm glad!
His first mistake was messing with an American, his second mistake was messing with a South African
Too right!
Thought the second guy was Aussie. How do you tell that apart from South African?
Voice acting could use some work, but still pretty funny
Appreciate it!
They were doing so good Was hoping for a better ending
Fair!
Was expecting the person in the future to fuck with the zombie with a laser gun the way the guy with the pistol did lol
Haha yeah it definitely could go on like that
For a another really good take on this theme, see "Cheech Wizard meets Yellow Death."
This reminds me of a Superjail episode where someone awakens an ancient God and then immediately shoots it in the chest and it just dies kinda pathetically crawling and bleeding. Very funny in the moment but now that I describe it ...
That was spot on. Thanks for the laugh!
this style reminds of stuff that used to be on adult swim at like 3am
That went on about 1:50 seconds longer than it needed too.
What an embarrassing anachronism at 00:51. The mummy says "BCE" (meaning Before Common Era), but the BCE nomenclature did not start being used until the 19th Century, far after the mummy was entombed. I sure hope someone was fired for this blunder!
I just laughed so hard I scared my cat. This is wonderful
Hey, it's Joe Haver
So in 10k years kiwis rule the earth. Or at least the tombraiding parts of the earth
To be fair, Buffy the Vampire Slayer killed a demon with a rocket.
Funny, but also a big Buffy joke from 30 years ago
Unexpected Kiwi from the future.
Ancient demon about to experience the power of a Vacuum Bomb
This is just cartoon Imbiamba Jombes?
What's your animation technic?
Is that the guy from "hey, I don't work here"?
Joelmation is my favorite. Good sketch
This gave me a good chuckle!
Loved the little dance the explorer did. This is actually funny and made me laugh. Good job Cool Giant.
This was funny OP
Why is the blue guy translucent?
I like the idea that in 10,000 years the kiwi accent will be standard as it is, objectively, the best accent.
The mummy adventure awaits! Huzaaaah! Glad to see Joel's apprentice there. Good laugh on this one, keep going!
That's some crude ass rotoscope.
Huzzah!
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic
This is essentially the Mac/Charlie sword vs gun debate with a mummy twist https://youtu.be/fvX60ubzB6Q?si=94uYQC95jJAx-97F
Shout-out to It's Always Sunny
Very funny! Do more of this sort of thing, please!
lol
i love how the mummy tries to just walk it off at the end
What is this channel
cool, what did they use to make this?
Rick O’Connell Core
Lol. Love when he was listening to music 😂
For any baldurs gate fans who haven't seen their other works https://youtu.be/tg0bGUdJ9hg?si=YS3jqV-AM4YL3rk6
Fan of Joel Haver I see.
People thinking they could fight a resurrected mummy p whos internal organs where removed thousands of years prior by crude metal hooks.
Picked on the wrong kitty. Meow meow
Joel Haver!!!!
Love this art style
I love their channel, it's so weird and hilarious
It's a little too on the nose, a bit forced
