So, any chance you work for Saatchi & Saatchi? Because thats exactly what I was expecting some time after the airing of the tide ads.
I expect the first videos of this kind to be professionaly produced and prepared and released in controlled timeframes until the first normal users start to copy this meme bulshit and produce their own stuff.
absolutely, but when you realize that it takes a long long time to make such a concept to plan and produce the ads, book a studio camera, actors editor... and coincidentally the TidePod challenge starts out of nowhere and only weeks later the superbowl ads make it around the world.
I'm from germany and never heard of tide or tidepods before. Everybody heard about the challenge and now the ads. This is a very unusual coincidence.
What if the challenge has been initiated by tide just to prepare the masses for the ads and memes in a worldwide Internet advertising campaign? Seems totally logical to me, but this would also mean that an advertising company has given its approval that the challenge may be imitated.
BTW /u/OptimizedEarl is it a coincidence that your most frequented subreddits are /r/SEO (searchengingeoptimization) /r/bigseo /r/affiliatemarketing /r/marketing /r/analytics /r/ecommerce /r/webmarketing and you are now doing exactly what I was expecting from the advertisingcompany of this massmanipulation? I mean this is your field, I would think you would see how this all works, but instead you are hopping on the bandwagon
Edit: letters
Whatever man. I hate ads usually but this is advertising I can get behind. It’s fun, hilarious, and gives us all material to play with. Pharmaceutical ads and car ads, on the other hand...
Holy fuck yes. I’m in finite mathematics and we had a quiz question where you have to decode a message using matrices, the message was fucking “Tide Pods”. I understand professors trying to be hip but really
I hear exactly no one say Dilly Dilly and if I did I'd have to tell them to shut the fuck up because it's stupid. Ok maybe not tell them but I would give them an odd look.
The only failure part of it was after the first commercial. They say all ads are tide ads since the clothes are clean, but the next commercial was that Rock movie Skyscraper, and the first shot was of him in a dirty shirt.
The ads were funny, but they really were just copies of the old Energizer Bunny ads.
The genius of the Tide Superbowl ad:
Our brains are both physically and functionally as "linking machines".
We have brain cells (neurons), linked together (with synapses). The links get stronger with use. Nothing is digital. Everything is stored as links.
Now, Tide got to plant the seed as a new link in our brains that says, "Clean clothes in an ad = a Tide Ad".
That means, if some other company spends $2,000,000 on a new ad, and dares to put clean clothed people in that ad, they are now just helping fire more synapses to reinforce the link that "clean clothes everywhere is a Tide Ad".
This should be a case-study in propaganda/marketing/psychology for many years to come.
And, I wouldn't be surprised if other ads (for cards, shaving cream, etc) might start showing more people with stained clothes, or no clothes.
If other people change their ads for that it will be even more obvious. Dirty clothes in an ad and you’ll immediately think if it was clean it would be tide. Now everything clean or dirty is a tide ad
It was smart but also ballsy. How much did they spend? 12 million? I think we will see a lot of ad buyers trying to get big blocks of time like that do to something ongoing in a series of ads. Is Old Spice the first to really go hard and crazy like this?
See how there is no blood on his face? Tide ad.
Or his clothes? Tide ad.
Just remember, when you hit a tide ad never wear whites.
My my my... look how the tide has turned!
God dammit I was gonna say this
how the turntables..
NO
Get out.

This image was floating around for a while... I just titled it for the joke.
Tide is a fucking genius. First, everyone was advertising tide pods for them. Now they are putting their name all over the internet for memes.
Memes are the Ads of the future.

Want to see another Tide ad? Look at your life.
But it's so ugly and unclean!
Look again
Tide ad.

I promise you I watched all the tide ads multiple times but I will never think of tide when I see clean clothes on a commercial.

Look how the sign turns. If you look at it sideways you could even way that it was rolling . . . ROLL TIDE!
Nope, Chuck Testa

I think it’s safe to say that the campaing worked Good job, Tide (I was not paid to say this)
Yeah but did you see the MLK "Built to serve" ad?
What in the fuck
r/thingsfightingidiots
You guys know this is exactly what Tide wants right?
Dilly Dilly!
They should put this on tv
Punchline in the title
Tide is winning
That’s a clean looking sweater!
Somebody is going to make a commercial where everyone is in dirty clothes.
My mom always calls having sex with a virgin "punching metal."
The tide has turned
At least he didn’t smoke it
something something equal and opposite reaction.
No. It's Becky.
I watched the super bowl. I saw there was a Tide ad. But why the hype? Is this one of those ironic internet things?
It was somewhere between 30-50% of the superbowl ads were tide. Safe to say I'm not buying tide for at least this year.
That's a really nice fence
Oh, how the Tide turns...
We meet again, at the turn of the tide.
So now the Internet just does the work for them for free? Interesting.
One of my first real laughs at the internet.
Eat. More. Tide. Pods.
Its tide to stop
Those were the best commercials of the whole Superbowl
That’s nothing a little Tide Pod snack can’t make feel better!
Tide can sell globally after all this bullshit. Mental nonsense
They sell globally already.
Nope, It's a tide ad
I saw the ad and immediately saw the meme potential and I am not disappointed
Millions of dollar went into hoping you’d think that way

That place turned into /r/epicfails in a big fucking hurry.
It's pretty great I think. I love watching idiots fight inanimate objects.
It was great when that's what the sub was.
