CarbonGod

Hell, my wife had my Weim on a leash. He quietly came out of the tall grass with a groundhog. Leashes mean nothing, if it's close enough.

Dry_Boots

My dog caught a very stupid rabbit while on a 6ft leash.

TibetianMassive

My dog almost caught a squirrel last week, it was within biting distance... But he got confused and froze because he'd never been that close. He clearly hadn't thought through what he wanted to do when he caught the squirrel.

Shaggy1324

I got mine a very realistic squirrel toy, put it in the backyard, and let him discover it. It was then I realized he didn't have a step two in his squirrel chasing plan.

TTTyrant

Lol so accurate. We have 2 cats that always try and avoid the dog. My dog finally cornered one and he just sort sat there head tilting until the cat was like"...I'm just gonna slip over here" and walked away while the dog just stared at him.

HyperbaricSteele

Dude my Catahoula chased a squirrel up a pine a while back, and the squirrel *fell out of a branch from 40 feet up*. Smacked down hard right next to him.. There was 5 full seconds of eternity staring at each other before they took off again. He didn’t catch it.

jarheadatheart

Mine did the same

Punk_n_Destroy

One of our dogs did that when they managed to grab a small piece of steak off the counter when nobody was paying attention. I walked into the kitchen with him just standing there wide eyed with a chunk of stolen steak sticking out of his mouth.

CatticusXIII

He'll be ready next time.

veggiedelightful

I caught my dog laying back to back with a very comfortable rabbit sunbathing. Dog has no hunt. Rabbit was wild.

Dry_Boots

lol, I wish mine could be that chill about it. She hunts and catches everything that moves. If there was a Disney cartoon about the critters living in my backyard, she would definitely be the villian!

grandmaWI

My wild rabbit would just flop on the grass when she saw my chocolate lab come out. She knew she would never harm her. I lost her in Feb. The lab/pointer I rescued has made it her life’s mission to make sure everything living is chased out of the yard.

dingo1018

Fun fact, an easily caught rabbit is probably a sick rabbit (or very young).

Dry_Boots

It was young, and of all the directions it could have run, on a wide open, grassy park field, it ran directly towards the people and dog, and before we could intervene she had it.

Memeoligy_expert

Natural selection at that point tbh

Burny87

It could have been a pet rabbit someone released too.

ExcellentBreakfast93

Yeah, going towards the humans for help. 😢

dirtt_dawg

When I would run my heeler through local downtown, he'd run almost fully taut and he would kind of pull towards pigeons and I'd pull him back. Over next few weeks he learned to ignore the pigeons. Then twice on two separate runs, he would slow down just enough when approaching a pigeon spot to have some slack...and then snap out and grab a pigeon. He just sort of shook them around before spitting them out. They looked shook with wet and ruffled feathers.

Yoshi_XD

I'm picturing an old pigeon sitting in an armchair with a thousand yard stare, while a young pigeon looks at his mother and asks "what happened to grandpa all those years ago?"

bluehorseshoes

*thousand island

SirVanyel

You guys will do anything to avoid using the metric system

wearing_moist_socks

My golden caught a chipmunk once and promptly dropped it. I'm pretty sure she didn't expect it and didn't know what to do

mcgarrylj

My golden mutt somehow startled a bird out of its tree. After the initial surprise he went over, sniffed the bird, then kept going. I’m very glad he doesn’t know that birds are made of food

craggmac

Your dog just enjoyed catch-and-release birding!

dioxy186

We had a stray cat that was offering me bunnies and birds in return for cat food. Watching them hunt was mesmerizing.

EGarrett

Yes. We have some stray cats that live in our area, I leave food out for them sometimes, they do NOT move like house cats. They're wirey, smooth, silent, and very deliberate and intense. Pure hunter killers.

steals-from-kids

Heelers are some of the smartest dogs out there. And damn they have some great personality.

devilishlydo

Mine chases squirrels and birds. One time, the squirrel he chased panicked and froze. Doggo pounced, but stopped just short of biting range. I swear he had this look on his face like, "You're supposed to run!" And the squirrel did run and doggo resumed the chase until her ran out of leash a half second later

FreeSun1963

The bene gesserit litany of chasing dogs?

mark-five

I must not squirrel. I am the squirrel-killer. Squirrels Are the little-squeaky that brings total exhiliration. I will face my squirrel. I will permit it to run past me or pass through me. And when it has gone past, I will kick the grass but not actually cover up my mess. Where the squirrel has gone there will be a turd. Only turds will remain

Sinavestia

Leash is a lie. There is only Running. Through Running, I gain Speed. Through Speed, I gain Momentum. Through Momentum, I catch Squirrel. Through Squirrels my leash is Broken. The Squirrels shall free me.

mark-five

It is by will alone I set my zoomies in motion. It is by the delays of walkime that thoughts acquire speed, the walls acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I keeps the zoomies motionless

SteakGetter

No way. We’ve seen this game too many times. Chances are so slim for the dog.

SOILSYAY

I must not leash. Leash is the run killer. Leash is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my leash. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the leash has gone there will be nothing. Only I and the squirrel will remain.

Would_daver

There are many leashes like this one, but this one is mine to ignore

co_ordinator

The leash must flow.

[deleted]

“Leash” If it was on a proper 6ft leash there would be no video.

nexusheli

Dogs over 10lbs should never be on a retractable leash. . . . . Dogs under 10lbs should never be on a retractable leash.

[deleted]

What's wrong with retractable leashes? Genuine question, I've always used them and have had no issues. Edit: got alot of replies very fast so I'll add that I usually bring my dog on a retractable leash to parks or on hikes where I want her to be able to adventure a little but still abide by leash laws. I would never take her on errands or to the pet store on one where she should know to be by my side. Thanks for the replies and yeah I'd say they are really situation dependent, not necessarily bad. Requires owner awareness for sure.

NoticeWhenUAreHappy

Because your dog constantly gets varying amounts of distance: 5 feet or 20 feet. It doesn't teach your dog they need to be by your side. Plus they malfunction: I work at a pet store. Customer "let out" tiny yorkie because they weren't paying attention (happens all the goddamn time) so the yorkie was 15 feet AWAY from the owner. Well a huge german shephard came in and attacked it, paralyzing the small dog. Retractables= zero control and loads of danger (elevators, dog walking ahead of you, behind, etc)

Black_Moons

Plus they snap easily due to how thin the material is to fit into the handle.

MrMono1

One gave my mum a black eye after snapping one time. The looks my dad got while they were out shopping were something else.

Witness_me_Karsa

Yeah, what is he an idiot? You don't hit her in the *face*. (This is only a dark joke. I don't support domestic violence)

EMlN3M

So you support foreign violence? You bastard.

Witness_me_Karsa

Oh yeah, big time.

beeinabearcostume

They also are super dangerous and can cause injury if they get tangled up saying hi to another dog because they are a thin cord and not a flat leash, and in order to shorten the leash, you have to move forward at a pace faster than your dog. Just a really terrible invention overall. We have a 30 ft and 50ft long leads for adventures where we want to allow some freedom but still abide by leash laws.

ToMorrowsEnd

good ones are a flat tape and high vis. Most people do not buy those as they are a lot more expensive. People generally cheap out and buy the cheapest.

CrazyLlama71

Not to mention that you and your dog can take up a 10’ wide fire road, blocking it from anyone passing. If I had $10 for every time a dog in a retractable leash was taking up the full trail and oblivious that I was trying to get by, I would be retired. It happens several times a week to me.

merdub

When I was a kid I was walking my dog down our very residential road at night and she was on a retractable leash and darted across the road - so the leash was spanning the width of the street, me on one side, her on the other - when someone came flying around a curve in a little coupe, didn't see either of us, and nearly killed everyone involved. Thankfully my A+ reflexes resulted in nothing but a shattered windshield. Never used a retractable leash again after that.

Black_Moons

Even if he did see you, he might not have seen the string, even in day time. Good choice ditching the retractable leash. A lot of people might have frozen.

bufordt

We have sighthounds, and they get to full speed in around 3 steps. Imagine your 80 pound dog taking off running, reaching 40mph right as they reach the end of the extendable leash. Dog breaks their neck, you dislocate your shoulder or break your wrist, and then fall on your face, breaking your nose.

nexusheli

I had greyhounds myself - the placement group made us sign docs that said we'd never let them off-leash in a non-fenced area, and tht we'd never use retractable leashes.

bufordt

I'm something of a greyhound owner myself. :)

[deleted]

I've got greyhounds, can you milk me, Greg?

SinkPhaze

You don't need to imagine to much. This vid is literally exhibiting the issue. Dog had enough lead to get some momentum and it ended up with the owner face planting and the dog getting knocked over by a hard pull to the neck

A_well_made_pinata

I have a large scent hound. She’s not fast but she’s incredibly strong. We have a lot of wildlife where I live and when she gets on a scent she is relentless. If she got stomped by an elk or gored by a bison while I’m holding the broken handle of a retractable leash I would never forgive myself.

UnusGang

My vet doesn’t recommend them. Retractable leashes can break if aggressively/excessively pulled on then you have an off leash dog that runs off and gets lost or into fights or whatever else.

SgtBanana

>Retractable leashes can break if aggressively/excessively pulled on Yup, and they will break at the most inopportune times. It can literally be life and death. They're cheaply made, they're poor training tools unless you're only ever going to keep them at a set length (at which point, why use one?), and for big dogs they are an accident waiting to happen.

[deleted]

You should see the scar from a retractable leash my mom has on her leg. Sliced right into her when some jackass had no control over their dog.

bluedot1977

My sister has a matching scar around her ankle.

sekmaht

There's countless stories of people and dogs being injured by them, because the retractable part is sort of a stronger twine. My friend had her dog on a retractable, maybe a 50 pound dog, ran a circle around someone and cut the shit out of their ankle, like a papercut except with retractable leash. Dogs rushing out into traffic or other dangerous situations, dogs tangling themselves or other dogs or people up, what happened in this video, and the lock on the leash breaking when its shortened and suddenly its not anymore and combinations of any those things. They really arent the best at all.

bassman314

I live in a Condo and there's a resident who had a cocker spaniel puppy. They let their kid (8 or 9 or so) walk the puppy on a retraceable leash through our busy parking lot. The puppy was never LESS than 20' from the family and was just zipping back and forth between cars. Mom was with them, so it wasn't the kid by themselves. This was at the start of COVID, and due to the shut down in the area, we saw many more wild animals, including coyotes and hawks. A pair of Coyotes actually lived in the hillside behind our complex for several months. A hawk actually camped on our balcony for a day. I think he was waiting on the pigeons who had taken up roost in our balcony. When your dog is more than 5' from you, you may not have the reflexes to stop them from running into traffic, or else to avoid an encounter with another (potentially aggressive) dog or wild animal. Trail use is fine, although I hate retractable leashes because I also feel like I have way less control, since I can't hold the spool as securely as I can a rope leash.

PierreLaMonstre

Rope laceration, digit amputation, concussion, dog asphyxiation and death. You don't have to be stupid to lose attention long enough for bad things to happen but it helps. Don't think it can't happen to you.

tacknosaddle

>exfixiation \*asphyxiation

thoph

This is [a non-scientific source](https://dogtime.com/how-to/pet-safety/33069-retractable-leashes-dangerous-deadly-dogs-humans), but I can attest at the very least to the danger to humans. My dog ran over to greet a buddy faster than anticipated, and the leash gave me a rope burn on the back of my knees (both), they oozed pus for days and needed lots of medical attention. They’re dangerous for dogs and humans.

nexusheli

You're looking at one example. There are many, many others. They're dangerous for the dogs in various ways; allows them to get a run up then could potentially injure themselves at full tilt. Can get wrapped around things and hung, on and on. Then there's the ability to injure a person which you see here with larger dogs. The orig. commenter in this thread noting she held on; most people in this situation would lose the leash, then you also lose the dog... They're just all-around bad.

modix

Anyone with over 60 lbs dog could tell you in 10 minutes of using one. You don't give dogs enough headway to build up steam. Close to your side, hand within a foot and a half of the harness. The amount of trouble they can get into is almost eliminated. 10 feet and super strong twine and my dog could snap a finger or drag me into traffic.

Evanderson

Literally 3 days ago a big white dog took down its owner trying to maul my dog. Needless to say I was pissed. Even if you think your dog is the friendliest dog in the world, it's still a dog with instincts. Just use a proper leash regardless, you're really not hindering your dog's life. You'll instead put everyone else at ease.

PutnamPete

This. I just had my lab mix on a recoiling 16 foot leash and he saw a porcupine. I did not hit the ground, but when he got to the end it was like a truck was attached.

not_swagger_souls

I walk my syberian with a heavy duty 32 foot leash so he can get his running in and explore a ways around me. Good lord when a 65 lb dog runs full speed to the end of his leash and doesn't stop they become a 150 lb dog real quick. I don't mind it and im glad he has a great time but I wouldn't give that leash to the ladies in my life

PutnamPete

My wife got pulled down on a gravel driveway. She held onto the leash like a boss, but her forearm looked like road rash.

Dhkansas

I had a mid-sized lab/sharpei mix growing up. I'd throw on some roller blades and let him pull me around and get some running in. Only a couple of times did he go chasing a rabbit/squirrel and boy could that dog run. Miss you Fred!

Black_Moons

This. Those leashes are horrible, especially for large dogs. Iv seen even small 20lb dogs rip them.

SkroodthePooch

You know, gotta give her props for not letting go. Should change to a static leash though.

TecumsehSherman

And a short one at that. You're not in control of an animal at the end of a 20ft string.

Tiny_Rat

Moreover, that 20ft of string gives the dog a lot more room to build up momentum and yank you down, as many videos like this one show. This physically can't happen on a short, fixed-length leash.

Whaty0urname

Not to mention the tension that builds on the dogs throat as they get up to speed.

[deleted]

Small dogs maybe...a doberman (I think that's what this is) should have a sturdy short leash haha

ribsies

For small dogs it's almost worse because it's them that gets yanked back when they hit the end. Could very easily injure them. Going 30 to 0 instantly isn't good.

GeminiTitmouse

Also, if you have a dog that weighs half or more as much as you do and is all muscle, you should absolutely keep one eye on its body language at all times not matter what you're doing to make sure this doesn't happen.

aCynicalMind

It's like people at the grocery store blocking the aisles with their carts while completely oblivious to anyone trying to get by, just so they can carry on whatever meaningless conversation they're having.

DarkHelmet123

Maybe they have a static leash already, and use this one for bathroom breaks and such in the front yard. It seems like a pretty fenced in area, along with the dog not actually being in danger to anything shown in the video besides the wife and the squirrels. And we saw who won that exchange.

Albert_Caboose

My guess is that it's a fully-fenced yard but they still need a leash because he can jump clear over the fence haha

AzulaSays

This vid is really about pink velvet bell bottoms, c'mon

verisimilitude_mood

It's real velour.

CrankyChemist

Just like Zap Brannigan's uniform!

verisimilitude_mood

A good captain needs many skills, such as boldness, daring and a velour uniform.

VelourFog10

Just let yourself go.

Roscoe_P_Trolltrain

Yah, at the end, the other woman is like, "Oh no! Are your pants ok?? It's ok, pants... shhhh... its ok."

I like how many times this guy has posted his wife falling as well as including different angles and zoomed in videos. 10/10 husband

I have security cam footage of my wife accidentally walking past our motion activated sprinkler and she runs away yelling “oh shit!” and it’s one of my most cherished videos.

If you can't laugh at the other faceplanting, are you even married?

Bjd1207

My wife often starts to pee a little if she's laughing very hard. The funniest moment in our marriage was when she felt it coming one day and tried to leap off the couch. She caught her foot in her other pant-leg and tripped and went headfirst into the wall. She was not hurt and so embarrassed that it made her laugh more and she peed herself right there in front me, laughing hysterically on the floor the whole time.

[deleted]

This is exactly how my brother dislocated his shoulder

mF-Jonezy

This stuff is no joke. Last year my mom broke her arm because of quite literally this exact scenario. My parents have a Rottweiler/shepherd mix and she saw an animal on the leash and lunged and that was it.

nuclearslug

This is exactly how I broke my rib.

Sargatanas2k2

Happened to me when I was 11, landed and snapped my collar bone.

[deleted]

Me too!! But I was 5. My dad probably shouldn't have let me hold the leash

plamboo

I've almost dislocated my shoulder before while I was distracted and my dog took after a goose that was too close to us at the park. I felt it come half way out and slide back in. It hurt like a bitch for a few days after that.

KingDaveRa

And how my mum broke her ankle. The dog was a rescue, and still not quite with the training. Pulled her over and broke her ankle.

The_Chorizo_Bandit

> This is *exactly* how my brother dislocated his shoulder At least he looked fabulous in his pink pants and heeled boots though.

billiarddaddy

Those leashes are the worst thing for dog owners.

ElderWandOwner

Worst thing for dogs too.

[deleted]

Also just injury waiting to happen. The problem is unlike a normal lead you cannot grab the leash and pull the dog back towards you as the cord is extremely thin so once your dog is out there unless you can recall them you won't be able to retract the leash. I've heard of people panicking, grabbing that thin cord and cutting their fingers down to the bone. While a long lead is less convenient it's safer and you have more control, I prefer one made of biothane as they don't suck up moisture from the grass or as much dirt/mud as the nylon/cotton leads.

DreadkingAlucard

Fuck flexi leashes. 1000x more with big dogs

e5115271

This. When an owner's dog runs towards you, and then the owner is an amateur angler reeling the dog in like a goddamned fish on a line, and they're looking at you like it's *your* fault.

joots

Those leashes are horrible

LoktheNomad

Agreed. Those leashes are the reason dogs are hit by cars. No matter how fast you think you are at locking them, you're not fast enough. They also fail regularly with locking up. I have always used a nylon set length leash, and haven't had any issues.

angryfoxbrewing

Extendo-Leashes/Flexi leashes are popular with first time and inexperienced owners, because they seem versatile. Unfortunately, very few inexperienced owners use them appropriately, and more rarely properly lock them at a reasonable walking length. I have a couple, in an open space where others aren’t around they can be a decent training tool, but yeah, mostly … I hate them.

IamDroBro

A Doberman should never be on a retractable leash like that

Unfair_External8332

A lot of people get large strong dogs without realizing how strong they really are. The amount of smaller people with huge pitties/rotties/mastiffs etc who cant really control those dogs is huge. I've seen so many dogs overpower their owners on walks and just happily run off chasing things.

PurpleWomat

Some breeds are deceptive. You expect a rottie/mastiff etc to be big. I got a basset hound, droopy, clownlike, an inch off the ground. Weighs 70lb (and that's middling for the breed), legs as thick as my wrists, utterly unmovable when he 'anchors' himself but still prone to unexpectedly take off after a rabbit. He's pulled me over more than once, put my back out several times, and reduced the neighbours to hysterical laughter as they watch me trying to persuade him not to nap in the middle of the street... You can't ever relax walking him and he's never off leash.

Black_Moons

> and reduced the neighbours to hysterical laughter as they watch me trying to persuade him not to nap in the middle of the street... Ah, yes, the "I am done walking now" phase of the walk... Really glad I grew up on a dead end street with no traffic.. after 30 mins of trying to get the 130lb+ dog to move (And the dog starting to growl at us for the attempt) we'd just go home without him.. he'd show up an hour later...

cvbeiro

A lot of people don’t train them enough either.

SolitaryForager

To be fair, it is very difficult to proof a dog with high prey drive against surprise squirrels. Not impossible, technically, but very difficult.

testtubemuppetbaby

There are a lot of tiny women with monster dogs around me just getting pulled around. Doesn't make me feel safe with my 6lb chihuahua.

DarkStar189

We have a neighbor, she's probably weighs 120 pounds. Got a pitbull, and we saw it knock her over twice. She got behavior/lessons done and the dog walks a little better now. But she has to wear some belt or harness around her waist that the leash connects to. If the dog sees another dog or a squirrel, she has to stop and plant her feet and not move while he whips back and forth. Makes us pretty uneasy when we are outside.

FrakkedRabbit

lmao, that is extremely dangerous and sounds if the dog didn't get any training at all he would still pull her, planted feet and harness or not.

[deleted]

Yeah I agree. I have a 100lb 1 year old puppy and wouldn’t trust 90% of people to walk him. He has a gentle leader and a full leash and collar. Even though he is great on walks, his power is ridiculous when a bunny or cat randomly run right past him. Its always the owners responsibility to make sure your dog can’t escape for your dogs safety and the safety of others.

_Brentil_

Thats a torn rotator cuff

giftman03

No one uses flexi leashes correctly. You should NEVER leave it unlocked. It’s purpose is to give you a variable leash length, then be locked in place. Although, a fixed leash is generally better in every way. In my city, flexi leashes are technically illegal, but bylaw almost never fines people.

P0rtal2

You're not wrong, but I've also seen the locks on many of those leashes fail when a dog lunges or takes off. As you said, you're better off with a simple fixed leash.

ErrorF002

Based on the manufacturing I have seen on some of these retractable leashes, I fear you have place far too much faith on the quality and stopping power of the lock.

guice666

Extendable leashes are _technically_ outlawed here, too, but it seems nobody pays attention to it, and, honestly, cops do have more important things to focus on. While I agree with banning them; I think a cop writing you a ticket for using them is just stupid. I use a leather leash because I walk two handed - one on the end, the other down closer to their collar. I don't use a locked-in extended leash because most of them are _rope_ ... and I tell you that rope burn hurts! I've had a few ... incidents with these, leaving a nice little burn/scar.

SathedIT

Step 1 - Get a real leash. Extendable leashes are garbage. You have zero control over a dog that is 15-20 feet away from you.

FinKing5

Those pants tho

kryppla

That cake at 4 seconds in

Chance-Yoghurt3186

I have a Doberman and I’m a a 220 lb man. If you are not paying attention and a squirrel come about, you are going for a ride

Kermitthefrog05

Those leashes are so dangerous. If your dog is pursuing something, and reaches the end that can seriously increase the chances of collapsing trachea or even death. The amount of kids and older people getting yanked down by dogs is alarming.

Urpieceofmind

To be fair you have to pay attention with a dog that big on a retract, still stupid funny thanks OP

ButtMunchSupreme420

GO! BWAAAAWWW

XLostinohiox

At least her friend was there to touch her butt. The best comfort in this situation.

No-Tomorrow4532

Literally her friend was like “oh shit you fell. Let me see how I can help in my 5 seconds of response time, oh well the only thing I can do now is help you stand up by gently touching your butt”

Anonymouslyyours2

Extendable leashes are so dangerous both for the owner and the pet and should be outlawed .

HendrixChord12

I put it between my arm once and got such bad rope burn when my parents 15lb dog pulled and I wasn’t paying attention.

xLambadix

I could somewhat understand it for these 2 kg breeds but god dang a doberman? So stupid...

SandMan3914

There's video of an older ladies dog bolted out the elevator door and got trapped as the elevator was going up. Thankfully someone getting off the elevator saw it and was able to release the dog's collar just before it got to the top of the door Those leases are garbage even for small dogs

Sibs

There are a lot of those exact video with small dogs nearly dying.

Sobersoaker

They seem pretty convenient until they aren't. Had one for my 60lb dog for about 2 months before I went back to a regular leash, even if you shell out for one made of good components there is still a chance it snaps or breaks. And you have less control over the animal in general with one of these.

the-awesomer

I had one on my 10 pound dog that got wrapped around my ankle while he ran and it unlocked and gave me a HELL of a rope burn. Extendable leashes are pretty bad for multiple reasons.

hectorinho

This happened to my girlfriend. Her best friend’s frenchie wrapped around her knee and gave her a gnarly rope burn in behind her knee. It took weeks for it to heal

thoph

Same happened to me. Both knees. The flesh back there is so tender 😭 It sucked.

beltorix

Came here to say this about the burns. Wife burnt a line across her tattoo, still healing, may have to have a touch up. Dog is about 20 pounds.

evemeatay

Even for small dogs it’s at minimum a major tripping danger and there are just so many reasons not to be tied to another animal by 20 ft of nearly unbreakable nylon line.

shaggy99

Especially on pathways that are shared with cyclists. Absolute menace. The number of times the owner has gone one way and the dog the other... And if the light is bad, the lead can be almost invisible. More than once I just thought two people were walking and chatting, and the dog has been sniffing in the undergrowth, on the other side of the path.

Wow. A large breed dog on a retractor lead. So much control, great idea smh

PiddlyD

I see what the problem is. You need a smaller dog, or a bigger wife.

chitwnupdown

Hi i work at a hospital and have seen dog owners lose fingers and have crippling injuries from retractable leashes. Fuck those leashes.

[deleted]

It’s so scary to see people that have dogs they can’t get control of.

seoul2pdxlee

And it u fairly gives the dog a bad name. She shouldn’t have a Doberman. It’s so clear. Being a good dog owner is more than just basic training and loving them. It’s understanding the nuances of the breed you have. Knowing that training is Always on going. Having situational awareness. Using the Proper tools to train them like a real leash and not this crap. I’m sure they love their dog but this video shows me they aren’t responsible owners.

Major_Magazine8597

She looks good in those pants.

ectoplasmic_sea

Gotta say good on her for maintaining hold of that leash, quite the iron grip there.

notyouraverageturd

Ah, a large dog over which someone doesn't have full control. Hilarious.

The_Original_Gronkie

During Covid, I slipped in the bathroom and broke my left humerus. 38 staples, and a bunch of titanium hardware later, and videos like this, and America's Funniest Home Videos, are ruined for me. I don't laugh, I just wince.

AgentAaron

I have an artificial ankle and a titanium rod replacing what used to be a good section of my Fibula from a bad snowboarding accident when I was 18...now into my late 40's, I no longer find those "fail videos" funny at all.

aloyshusthegreat

Can't wait to be on the other end of that with all 120lbs holding it back. Get a smaller dog Jesus Christ people

seoul2pdxlee

Right?!! They are the type of owners to give these dogs bad names. Hes not leash trained And they don’t even know what tools to use. No reputable trainer or owner would use this type of leash for a big dog like that and honestly no one should use them period.

DadLifeChoseMe

People underestimate bigger dogs and how strong they are. My parents have an 80lb puppy, and he will drag the shit out of my mother or sister while being walked if he so chooses. Gone quite poorly a couple times already I know, training and all.

supermanblunted

People need to stop having dogs they can't control under their own weight.

Mudsnail

Retractable leashes are dangerous and stupid. There is not a competent dog trainer that would ever tell you to get one.

Ramazotti

With a Dobermann you should use a proper dog leash, not that chihuahua reel.

Mercury90210

Retractable leashes are the worst when used with big dogs. Not only are they dangerous but they often break.

INVERT_RFP

I will give her credit, she has great grip strength!

clumsyKitten143

Haha, everyone look at my wife getting hurt

GiantsOfSF1958

Hopefully she's OK. That looked painful.

Belenub_Furblenor

Poor dog with its butchered ears and tail.

Azombieatemybrains

I was thinking what’s with the ears and tail on that dog! The owners/breeder cropped them? Poor dog.

Belenub_Furblenor

Yes parts of the ears has been cut off and the same with its tail. This is what a Doberman looks like with its ears and tail intact: [https://i.pinimg.com/564x/b2/5b/a7/b25ba7cad736d51422c72f994f458062.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/b2/5b/a7/b25ba7cad736d51422c72f994f458062.jpg)
