I play Honkai Impact 3 and I've seen how much people bitched about having a male playable char in the game. But people warmed up to Adam over time so I think a sizeable amount of fans would love if Otto, Kevin or Kalpas got added to the game.
He got a lot more personality since APHO 2. There is less hate now but fanatics will keep doing their thing. Especially with the introduction of part 2's protagonist people started shitting on him instead, both for being a self-insert and being not as cool as Adam.
Also, Adam set up a much-needed precedence for male chars in general, for the purpose of story telling. So when they made a controllable Otto and playable Siegfried in main story there were no more complaints (none that I could see anyway)

After seeing the sort of fanbase it created, Gust got more directors on board for the second game, shifted gears and went full yuri. Nier Automata, the playable character will feel more like a modified human, but the world has many robots, both friendly and hostile.
But majority of the games are like Horizon where the robots are basically enemies that you kill as a human. Which I guess isnt what you're looking for.

Screw design is simply not popular in the gacha niche in Asia, maybe in the West but the majority spenders are from CN and JP
