I don't think asking a bunch of people interested in game dev is the best audience to ask. Game developers do not think or purchase like a normal gamer \[who make up 99.99999999% of your customers\] when it comes to picking products. To answer your question though, I don't plan to purchase anything personally. I am excited for the sale to end so that it's easy to actually see new games again without me going to the upcoming releases page.

This is exactly why I am asking gamedev. I want to know what you are looking for when purchasing a game. Are you interested in testing certain mechanics? Want to try out a new style? I am interested in potentially working on my own game so learning how you all think would be helpful. Plus its fun to talk about stuff like this.

silkiepuff

Ahh okay, my bad. I hardly purchase games and tend to pirate because I have no ethics when it comes to software and entertainment, including games. Usually casual games, "cozy games" because I think they have fun gameplay elements and I want to make similar games. So, every single new 'cozy' game you can think of basically.

RoshHoul

Are you a dev? Rarely see that sentiment across fellow game developers, even the ones working in the bigger corporations

silkiepuff

Yes, but I'm an evil dev and find most other devs annoying. I have been in the industry for 15 years now at random companies, currently just working on my own project now though. I am jaded to the industry imo, especially having worked in gaming press at first and seeing how many companies purchase/beg for good reviews and how game developers behave in front of press.

Pidroh

I either play games I actually like or try to study addictive interesting games. Not buying anything this summer sale though, I think

Currently on the fence about trucking simulator. It's only $1.99 so how could I not? Reason I don't want to is because I don't have the full setup, steering wheel, pedals, etc. Don't think I'd get into it if I'm just using a mouse and keyboard

Upper_Combination_11

Not that much for game dev research purposes but: Witcher 3 because I really wanted to properly play it for so long. And 私のリアルは充実しすぎている because I'm a weeb. Then just game assets as stuff I want are also on sale currently..

_Ferns

Probably nothing as well but I tend to also buy cozy games. I’m digging the trend. Now that I’m older, playing stressful things is less and less appealing.

bsherburne

The Painscreek Killings Scene Investigators Shadows of Doubt. All 3 games have mechanics and aspects that I need for research

Ironically, the only title I bought was Dark and Darker that was not on sale because watching some streamers playing it made me want to try out the free version, which got me hooked.

Pycho_Games

The only thing I bought is Super Blood Hockey. I was hoping for a game that feels like those old SNES sports games. Haven't played yet though.

Anything that seems to be worth the time, I usually see an art or title that I like and go for ratings, if the 2 things are okay I go to the page to see what the game is actually about, reading 3 or more reviews, trying to find good and bad ones. Said so, I'm willing to buy anything under 5€, almost surely under 3€, so I wait for discounts every time, if a game is particularly well acclaimed or famous, I go from 6 to 15€ without thinking too much. Past years I've never bought anything that costs more, besides some AAA that everyone knows. Almost everything not well known that I buy as one or both these 2 things: • unique and well done art style, world design etc.. • unique gameplay, simple, hard, chunky, doesn't really matter, unique and inspired.

I picked up Arkham Knight for a couple bucks. Figured I’d round out the trilogy of unplayed Batman games bought cheap.
