The game itself could be an app on gta online.
I was hyped to hear 'survival shooter' but then realized
A) its a mobile port to pc
B) is literally the most chinese bullshit app filled to the brim with p2w mechanics
C) zombie survival game.... but the buildings are perfectly clean, modern black ops 2 style houses, and built like a fortnite base. Extremely out of theme, these buildings.
D) marketed as an extraction shooter - no such thing ingame
E)... when was will smith added? When i saw ads during its 'alpha' (still in the same state, just released it as an officially full released game) it never showed will smith. Seems like they tried to get a celebrity to rope people in but.. I am Legion, the movie, is worth so much more of your time.
Do you mean I Am Legend?
That movie was okay until they omitted the entire titular scene and huge twist/reveal. It's not a shitty movie, but they totally fucked up the story.
Will Smith has a couple movies with third act problems: I am Legend and I, Robot being the ones that stand out the most.
Both are very good for the first two thirds but can't land the plane.
I mean, honestly no part of that movie worked. It had some interesting ideas and cool scenes, but none of them fit together into a cohesive story or good character chemistry.
It's a cool superhero take, that turns into a sappy sci-fi romance. Hancock learning to act like a hero again would have been really cool, with the PR agent and stuff.
The other half could've been really cool too, star crossed lovers, immortal unless in each others presence.
I saw it in the cinema then never gave it a second thought. The twist just doesn’t fit the comedic theme and turns a silly superhero parody into a wacky sci-fi
I have a theory. Will Smith doesn't like to be portrayed in a negative way because of his insane levels of insecurity. Because of this the characters he plays can never really make mistakes, so they can't grow or change. So much like Will himself they are forever trying to get by on just charisma, so when push comes to shove in the third act and the characters have to learn a lesson, make a sacrifice or make a choice based on what they learned the film falls apart. Because again, like Will, the character is incapable of true growth or change.
It's a decent zombie movie. It's a shit adaptation of I Am Legend. If it wasn't for the title I'd have probably come out of it saying it was a good film.
It's one of my favourite books, and despite being vampires is an indirect inspiration of Night of the Living Dead which spawned the modern day zombie genre. So I can understand them going for zombies, but to remove literally the whole point of the book from the adaptation just doesn't make sense. Even the alternate ending does it no justice.
Yeah, it's absolutely nothing like the book either. I've got severe ADHD, and have only read a handful of books in my 41 years of existence, yet I've read "I am Legend" probably 30 times, if not more. The only good movie adaptation of the book was "The Last Man on Earth" from 1964, starring Vincent Price. The whole plot twist in the story makes the name of the novel make sense, yet the Will Smith version doesn't even remotely go near the twist, since the zombies are generic "run really fast zombies" and are nothing like the way they are in the book. They leave out the best parts, which is mind boggling.
Literally the entire point of the movie. He was their boogeyman. Their "legend". I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a book to film adaptation.
The only thing they have in common is the title. That one made me mad, but what could you expect from a book that reads like a UN report? It would take the right person taking a huge swing to actually do that book justice.
Funnily enough, they are doing a sequel. But are using the director’s cut ending, where Neville survived, but had that moment from the book where he realizes he’s actually the monster to them.
I absolutely hated that film. Vastly different from the book and the ending is why it’s called I am Legend and they changed the ending. Total trash film.
Yeah a lot of people don’t know about the book or the twist it’s supposed to have. I read that Will Smith had problems with the idea that he was supposed to end up as the bad guy so they re wrote it but I’m not sure if it’s actually true. It’s a good movie on its own but it could’ve been an all time great if they kept true to the source material.
Believe it or not, I was apart of his team at the time of the pitch(albeit lower on the totem pole), and you are 100% correct. The amount of second hand cringe I felt in those meetings from their ideas was near catastrophic. The game almost didn’t happen. The frozen musical moment idea made me turn my camera off.
That looks like a shitty fan remaster of a shitty fanfic total conversion mod of a PS2 game that was created by the guy that creates those shitty mobile game trailers.
The funniest thing is (at least from dunkey’s vid), will smith doesn’t even voice the character based off him. That character has zero voiced lines. The game just uses his likeness and that’s it
Thats the funny part is he litterally is just a figurehead in it. It's just his likeness that's in the game. Not his voice which is even more wtf on where all the money went.
[Not great.](https://www.reuters.com/technology/tencents-next-level-up-fewer-big-foreign-franchise-games-more-in-house-2024-03-21/) Apparently it brought in $1.4 million globally and $288k from Chinese Apple devices in March. Considering that doesn't include Hwahuei or Android sales - which I gotta assume had *some* sales - I can't really speculate on what it's overall revenue was; but it's a definite floppy flop.
The game has apparently already been released on Steam and mobile, since last summer. For a game with such a large budget and coming from a large company, it's quite odd that there seemingly was no marketing, and it kinda just flopped and fell under the radar.
Poets of the Fall is an amazing band though!
I swear at one point Spotify random music let me listen to the band Old Gods of Asgard and it took me about 15 seconds to recognise it was just Poets of the Fall but with a different name, purely for the Alan Wake game.
I've never played any of these games but from what I've picked up from reading a lot online, Control and Alan Wake are set in the same universe, right?
Might actually have to play these games some day, I fucking love Poets of the Fall and they might actually be the gateway for me to play these games XD
They are in the same universe. Definitely give them a go! AW2 also heavily implies Quantum Break is also canon, but bc of IP issues with MS, they can't out and say so.
Yeah, in *Control* they reference the events of *Alan Wake* as another anomaly. (And then they did a DLC mission related to it.) So it seems like a shared universe now.
This [reuters article](https://www.reuters.com/technology/tencents-next-level-up-fewer-big-foreign-franchise-games-more-in-house-2024-03-21/) briefly mentions that it made $1.4 million in revenue globally in the month of January 2024. The game also appears to still be listed on Steam and the play store. So, I'd assume it's still existing.
These are pretty sad numbers for a game that had such a large budget.
I mean, I'm pretty sure he charged the Oscars $140 Million just for his improvised line 'GET MY WIFE'S NAME OUT YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH'.
To his credit, that line slapped.
I remember where there was a time you couldn't go two weeks without dunkey being one of the top posts on one of the main subreddits here and you hardly ever see him mentioned now.
He hasn't been posting as much, and his videos are less ambitious this last year or two or so.
Seems a lot of his focus is going towards his family, and their publishing company, which I think is totally fair.
Dunkey fell off.
Edit: man y’all really need to watch more Dunkey videos. Maybe that way when someone quotes one of his popular lines you won’t jump to defense mode.
It might be a reference, but it's also just true.
Whether it's due to his kid, Big Mode, or something else, who can say - but the fact remains his videos certainly have suffered a loss in quality.
wow, that looks at least ten years old. and that poor nurse! although i praise the post-apocalyptic doctors who manged to keep her alive and sew her back together.
They should make a $10 game where you're Will Smith and you go around slapping everyone at the Oscar's. Every year they can have a $5 celebrity addon dlc for all the newest celebs.
Not really, it's just a generic mobile game that had a collaboration with Will Smith in China (like an event in any game) but the internet started calling it like it was his game for some reason, rumor after rumor we got here where people think it's actually a Will Smith PC game that failed and somehow OP added the money laundering thing.
Another recent example of China using famous people for mobile games is KennyS playing a mobile copy of Valorant, but that doesn't make it HIS game, same case as Undawn.
This post is a classic reddit moment. “This thing is money laundering” with no explanation as to why they think it’s money laundering but this is reddit and no one knows what money laundering is.

It really just kills me anytime people suggest something expensive was bad so it's intentional and money laundering, when just taking a *second* to think about it would prove otherwise.
It's crazy how little sense it makes. The initial investment, or at least most of it, has to be clean money, so you're down $100M of clean fucking money just creating your scheme. Instead you could pay some developers to create a bunch of shitty indie games or other digital products for you, then get giftcards with cash to purchase them. Not efficient in the least but at least it could actually launder money.
Public opinion did a lot of heavy lifting for these old school celebrities, the social media age has crumbled the illusion of some and empowered others
Now take this idea and apply it to most other topics on reddit and you'll get an understanding of just how unreliable things you read on this site tend to be
Yeah people dont seem to know what money laundering is.
If you claim you have spent a ridiculous amount of money on something and took a huge loss then it can be tax evasion but it is quite opposite of money laundering.
Money laundering is when you show a huge income that you didnt actually make because you have dirty money that now can become clean.
It's not even tax evasion if you actually spent it! The IRS doesn't require businesses spend their money intelligently, and it would be worse if they did because that's penalizing the losers for losing. Really its only tax *evasion* when you have a bunch of money you don't report.
And if you actually just pocketed it or IDK blew it all at the Turkish Bath that gets into just straight up fraud.
If the game is so terrible then how would the money laundering work exactly?
Sink $140 million into the game and lose most of it? That's not money laundering, that's financial ineptitude.
Never heard of the game, but who would be laundering what money through its production? If they were laundering money, they would not be disclosing its production cost.
Money laundering is not just spending money. It needs clean money coming in. It’s absolutely stupid that people keep applying the principles of money laundering to stuff like this. Money is laundered with the games you actually play, the movies you watch just to give you an idea of what it is about.
I used to love Will Smith, I grew up watching him on TV and in movies, I even loved Wild Wild West (had it on dvd)... and then the slap happened.... and I lost all respect for the man, retroactively ruining everything I ever loved with him in it, and I hate him for that, for ruining so much good childhood memories.

Hancock is the most “needs a third act” movie he’s ever done.

Yeah it's occupied by a bunch of other guys' mouths!
That's called an entanglement.
But it's only May
Nah, the first half is by far the more interesting half imo
> I, Robot ... Both are very good for the first two thirds Well, that's if you weren't expecting an Issac Asimov adaptation.
>movies with third act problems Bright (2017)
I mean, honestly no part of that movie worked. It had some interesting ideas and cool scenes, but none of them fit together into a cohesive story or good character chemistry.
The Shadowrun movie no one asked
It was fuckin awesome for world building, but that's about it.
Add Hancock to that list
Half of a really fucking good movie just wasted on that stupid twist.
I swear Hancock is two scripts glued together
Isn't it? I'm entirely pulling this out of my ass but I thought I'd read that the movie was half done when it had a change in production
It's a cool superhero take, that turns into a sappy sci-fi romance. Hancock learning to act like a hero again would have been really cool, with the PR agent and stuff. The other half could've been really cool too, star crossed lovers, immortal unless in each others presence.

He played an alcoholic super hero who redeemed himself in Hancock
I thought I Robot had a decent ending.

I am Legion is an awesome title
Omg could not be more accurate 💀 😂
Shit even looks like a mobile game
Never heard of this game. They obviously didn't have proper ad campaign
only reason i heard of it was because dunkey made fun of it lol
Will Smith made one post about it on release day or something and then never mentioned it again. Even he or his team knew it was shit
> Even he or his team knew it was shit lol not even. they knew that was all they had to do to get paid. who gives a shit beyond that.

Thanks, I forgot that I've seen it already.
Omg I forgot about the best line in that video: "this ain't a video game...this is a product."
i'm sorry, but what the fuck.
That was ...... Something alright.
Was it money laundering or nah
Just to clarify, were you part of the team at the time of the pitch? Just asking because "a part" and "apart" mean opposite things.
The funniest thing is (at least from dunkey’s vid), will smith doesn’t even voice the character based off him. That character has zero voiced lines. The game just uses his likeness and that’s it
There was a voiced line by that character but it's laughably not remotely like Will.
whatever was in the contract to get the money
Keep his games name out of your fucking mouth.
cucksmith
Yup
What’s a dunkey
Puerto Rican YouTuber
He has the record for Bowser's Big Bean Burrito.
I heard about it from Kevduit myself. Dunkey is good tho
Besides the game itself is really mediocre, boring and poorly designed at times.
I think it slaps
Calm down will smith
👋
Yeah, for a game with such a famous figurehead and overall budget, you'd think they would have spent more on an attempt at marketing.
Thats the funny part is he litterally is just a figurehead in it. It's just his likeness that's in the game. Not his voice which is even more wtf on where all the money went.
Wait. Will Smith doesn’t play himself in the game, am I understanding that correctly?
No, it's just a similar voice. They use his likeness, not him. It's to save money for the laundering part.
I get the concept, but where's the money being laundered to/from?
Aliens. He's still paying off the lawsuit from beating that alien's ass in Indepenpedenpendence Day.
Tbh has he done much since slapgate? I wonder if they paid the money before all of that and since decided to reign in the affiliation a bit?
He did an Underground Railroad movie thinking it would be an easy win. I dont think anyone ever saw it.
Emancipation, which was filmed before Will slapped Rock. He's also producing some remake film, Bel-Air, and a bad boys
Say the movie, it was fairly good tbh, but all I could think of was "the slap" the entire movie
Does anyone remember the game for PS1 that starred Bruce Willis called Apocalypse? That game was fucking fun.
Watched a play though of this recently, forgot how insane it was. I wish they'd make a sequel or something crazy
Since Bruce Willis signed his likeness away to an A.I. company, that very well could happen!
PS1 also had the classic Die Hard Trilogy. Also, there's the obvious Cyberpunk 2077.
The main market for this was China I believe
It was
Oh. Then does anyone here have any idea how it did financially in that market?
[Not great.](https://www.reuters.com/technology/tencents-next-level-up-fewer-big-foreign-franchise-games-more-in-house-2024-03-21/) Apparently it brought in $1.4 million globally and $288k from Chinese Apple devices in March. Do western games like this actually sell well?
It's not a western game, it just has Will Smith in it
It's a Tencent mobile game. US/Western audiences were never the target.
I only heard of it because of video game dunkey https://youtu.be/qQV6guvFmM0
Dude thank you for that, it was fantastic
*"The Zombie was standing up killing him, murdering him. It was murder in there"* Gameplay footage has been leaked. Apparently it isn't pretty.

Nobody wants to be associated with this shitty game.
Nobody wanted to be associated with Will Smith at the time either.
I'm surprised anyone still does now
Damn, was this written by Alan Wake himself?
Nah it doesn’t have Norse gods singing rock songs.
Poets of the Fall is an amazing band though! I swear at one point Spotify random music let me listen to the band Old Gods of Asgard and it took me about 15 seconds to recognise it was just Poets of the Fall but with a different name, purely for the Alan Wake game.

Getting Garth Marenghi vibes from this writing.
I would play that game

I know writers who show rather than tell and they're all cowards.
"That is witchy woman wittering and it needs snuffing at the wick!"
Woah now, Alan Wake is a god.
Some might say, a god that is dead yet dreaming, beyond the cold wastes of Control…
> Gameplay footage has been leaked How do you leak gameplay footage of a game that's been out for nearly a year?
DOes it still exist ? Was sure that it got closed after a week of release.
This [reuters article](https://www.reuters.com/technology/tencents-next-level-up-fewer-big-foreign-franchise-games-more-in-house-2024-03-21/) briefly mentions that it made $1.4 million in revenue globally in the month of January 2024. It's free on steam. I wonder if you're think of that other game that got killed quickly... "the day before"?
True. Wasn't undawn also the name of one of those awkward chinese zombie mobile games
You're probably thinking of the same game as mentioned here.
