Visual-Breath-9443

OMG I meant NEW to gardening!!!!!! I can’t change the title. So sorry!!!!

pierre_x10

Why not both?

sunderskies

Only someone new to gardening is brave enough to do it nude! The rest of us already know why not to.

Wonkasgoldenticket

Onlyfans is getting cRaZy

ScaredVacation33

Onlyferns

Wonkasgoldenticket

You naughty little clematis

ScaredVacation33

Careful now. My plants are getting wet

Wonkasgoldenticket

Just don’t soil yourself

Visual-Breath-9443

Hahah!

Psychological-Joke22

We ARE a no judgement zone 🤣

Kantotheotter

Really don't want to be a new to gardening nude gardener and find out the hard way it was poison ivy.

rayofgoddamnsunshine

This is exactly what I was expecting when I opened this thread. I've seen a lot of poison ivy pics in plant ID subs lately.

Cat_the_Great

Underrated comment

theNewLuce

YOLO. FLy your freak flag high.

_bexcalibur

This is amazing 😅

Witty_Temporary_4204

I was wondering if nude gardening was slang for without protection such as gardening gloves 😂😅 gave me a good laugh until I saw your comment

ploddonovich

Go ahead with it. It’s been the best post so far 👍🏽

Reasonable_Tie_132

I thought this was some cool boho gardening technique. I was about to google

TalkToPlantsNotCops

It would explain the extra caution re: poison ivy

conundrum-quantified

ROFL!😂

Griffen_moss

That’s amazing 🤣🤣🤣

AmphibianPrize1429

Definitely made me laugh and made my day, so thank you! Sorry I am not an expert at gardening either and will leave the identification to the experts on here :)

ElaineMK2222

Put some clothes on 🤣

Visual-Breath-9443

OMG I meant NEW to gardening!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Ashamed_Extent3008

This is great. I saw the post and went to comments to see if this was like a trend or what in the hell was I missing???? Bahahahahha

JohnWasElwood

If you've never tried *nude* gardening, just say it changed my life and my wife's! It's exhilarating to feel the sun and breeze on your body. Especially in when we lived in hot and humid louisiana. Fortunately we had a very private backyard and we could get away with stripping down and getting rid of the sweaty sticky clothes for a while. Now, pretty much every morning that the weather cooperates we also do naked coffee out on our porch overlooking the river and do our daily devotion. Wouldn't trade that time with her for anything!

idontknowmanwhat

I get bug bites on my butt if I so much as wear shorts while gardening. No way I’m putting it all out there for bugs to devour 😆

Ashamed_Extent3008

See, this was my thought. I don't need any more reaso for mosquitos to perch and just wait on me. I live in florida, and the mosquitos are big enough when you slap them, they slap you back. I don't need to fight them off buck ass naked.

JohnWasElwood

It's funny but there is a wooded area that we own alongside of our yard that I have been trying to clear out the dead trees and brush for about a year now. Every damned time I go out there *with clothes on* I come back with a tick or two up underneath of my belt. One had gotten himself so deep that I ended up having to go to the emergency room and get a shot and some antibiotics. I have also worked out there nude with just shoes and socks and a hat on and have yet to have a single tick end up on me. We have a bad problem with gnats out here and one of the neighbors told me to take a bar of soap and wet it and rub it on my neck and back and on my chest. Haven't had a problem with those while working nude either. (Your mileage may vary.)

Apprehensive-Let3348

I'd guess Irish Spring bar soap, in particular. It's recommended for keeping pests away constantly, not sure how effective it is in practice.

wilerman

This time of year you can swallow mosquitos while exhaling on the Canadian Shield. I usually develop an immunity to the itchiness by June because I get destroyed every time I step outside lmao.

Alice-Upside-Down

Too much poison ivy in some parts of my yard to risk that! 🤣🤣

Route2simplicity

Lmao 🤣 same

NefariousnessKey5365

Right I don't need mosquito bites on my choochoo

delirium_skeins

Can you imagine trying to pick zucchini naked? My arms being bare is already miserable I can't even imagine leaning into the prickly plants with a bare chest too.

Sea_Ganache620

Oh sure… it’s exhilarating for you guys. But I do it, and I get kicked out of the garden center and arrested.

Ashamed_Extent3008

Lol, I live in the middle of nowhere, so privacy is not an issue. We have a pool and an outdoor shower, and if we are in it or around it, our clothes are very optional. Usually, only have them on if we have company, lol. The garden is a different story. I'm scared I'd get mosquito bites in places I don't want them. Lol. And pulling weeds all, I'm not sure that would be as much fun as you make it sound. Lol. Hell, you only live once, so I'll give it a go. But if I catch some strange disease from a bite to my genitals I'm coming looking for you. Bahahahaha lol. Time spent with the wife is precious no matter where you are or what you're doing. Every afternoon, we walk and pick strawberries peaches oranges blueberries just whatever is ready and it is a moment we have with just us. The problems melt away, and it's wonderful. I fully understand what you mean by not trading the time for anything. I wholeheartedly agree.

JohnWasElwood

We wish you were our neighbors!

Moss-cle

My neighbors have to suffer through me in my jammies and coffee on the back deck in the morning. But i have a question, or ten, where do you keep your pruners?

zzzap

Toolbet doesn't count as clothing 😉 (not a nude gardener. I prefer poison ivy on zero parts of my body thx)

Apprehensive-Let3348

That sounds desperately uncomfortable

zzzap

can you imagine how much the dirt would love to stick to all those sweaty crevasses 💀

visionsofblue

Perfect reason to install an outdoor shower

zzzap

ROI would be great if I started charging all the neighbors for the show! Lol in all honesty I am too scared of bugs and far too pale skinned to ever consider stepping outside in my birthday suit. But props to those who enjoy it!

LowAbbreviations2151

Embrace WNGD. 👍😊

shade1tplea5e

Yeah you want to try and wear as little clothes as possible this time of year here haha

sweetpototos

Mosquitoes of Reddit are gps-ing your location.

JohnWasElwood

Believe it or not we had a worse problem with mosquitoes when we lived in Newport News Virginia than even in Baton Rouge Louisiana! Look at a map - the town of Poquoson (means "great swamp:) is nearby, and the Great Dismal Swamp is just a few miles away. Here in the mountains the gnats are terrible.

Kurtz1

I was thinking they gardened nude and was worried about a rash 😂😂😅

whiskeyjane45

May 3 is naked gardening day

bemorecreativetrolls

I mean… it did make sense… if you were nude you would def want to avoid poisonous plants!

bombalicious

I was swiping furiously chanting please don’t be naked please don’t be naked…..awe no nude shots…

AdorableDemand46

Right? I was like just put on some pants until you figure out what they are.

Frija-fights

World naked gardening day is the first Saturday in May. Now you know https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Naked_Gardening_Day

Revolutionary-Fly344

There was an almost erotic article in a herb gardening magazine with wondrous illustrations about this topic. I still don't know how I should feel about being turned on in 2008 in a public library reading that article as a middle schooler.

notabigmelvillecrowd

Ha! As a middle schooler you can get turned on by a picture of particularly shiny fruit, it doesn't take much.

Visual-Breath-9443

Well thank you kind person! Good to know!

ElaineMK2222

🤣

ThisIsWhoIAm78

I just laughed for five minutes. Thanks for this. 😂

BigRefrigerator9783

BEST.AUTOCORRECT.EVER!!!!! 😂😂😂⚰️

Nruggia

Is this some new way to drive traffic to OF?

parolang

I'd be worried about poison ivy too.

mirthfun

Voice to text? That's the worst! And the best!

whatisrealityplush

I was like....huh. Guess they're really motivated to get this question answered then.

DropsTheMic

I was like... This is a new way to advertise OnlyFans on Reddit. I'm not sure if I'm annoyed or impressed by the ingenuity. Still, no pics? Tease.

Visual-Breath-9443

Ba! Ha! If I had an onlyfans I’d like to think I’d be that clever! Sorry to have disappointed!

Icy_Foundation_4761

Quite sure you have clematis vine there FYI. With the exception of picture 4, I think that close up in picture 4 actually is something else closely clumped with it but that is clematis.

Captain_Coggles

I was scrolling the pictures with increasing enthusiasm/apprehension. Haha.

l80magpie

This is hysterical. Thanks for the lol

NOSTR0M0

I had to do a double take on what subreddit I was reading this post in lol.

NanaBanana2011

That. Is. Funny! 😂🤣

McTootyBooty

NSFW warning 👀

Alice-Upside-Down

I immediately went to the comments because I was like “how is this relevant to the person’s question?” Lol though you do you, whether you’re new or nude or anything in between 🤣

nova_rock

Hey no shaming here, but at least water gloves?

best_of_badgers

If you don’t water your gloves, they wilt

Jolly_Atmosphere_951

Since poison ivy acts when in touch with the skin I thought "well, if you're doing nude gardening it sure is a major concern".

allforus0811

I was thinking if there’s any question on whether or not it’s poison anything, I’m wearing ALL the clothes. 😮‍💨😂😂

armas187

Is this a thing. I've been wearing clothes this whole time.

fidlersound

No shame! Garden with as little clothes on as you want!

PhilfromNewJersey

Can we talk about the second part of your caption

WaffleMan29

Lmfao i know right. Just throws that in the title with no explanation

Visual-Breath-9443

Oh man. I definitely meant to type NEW TO gardening. 😝

Jimbobjoesmith

i swear i thought that was some new trend my lame ass just didn’t understand 😂😂😂

On_my_last_spoon

I mean, you *really* don’t want to get into a patch of poison ivy if you’re neked! There are places I do not want a rash!

beccarvn

Personally, all of my places are places I don't want a rash.

Itsnotme74

We believe you op !

PhilfromNewJersey

I’m genuinely curious. It’s the opposite of what I do. Maybe it’s something cool that I don’t even know about.

Visual-Breath-9443

I wish I were that cool. Maybe I should try it! But no, alas, it was a major typo. I appreciate your lack of judgement though!!!!

PhilfromNewJersey

You’re new to gardening and already learning the pro tips! Ok I’m done lol best of luck OP keep them clothes on

Visual-Breath-9443

OMG I meant NEW to gardening!!!!!! I can’t change the title. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ok_Investment_729

I'm so glad this happened 🤣 First, I thought "Well that's strange information to share." Then, I considered how critical that information would be if you were nuding it up.

PhilfromNewJersey

LOL I love it! And I’m genuinely glad you’re not out there like that though now I wonder if there’s something to it 🤔😂

CypripediumGuttatum

God think about bug bites in places they should never be. I’ll wear long sleeves, long pants, gloves and a hat just to keep the big bites to a minimum. See also: thorns.

Visual-Breath-9443

Yep yep. I definitely do not garden in the nude.

CypripediumGuttatum

Well that's a phew. I feel much less anxious for you. Hope you figure out what the mystery plants are, one looks like a clematis to me too.

Visual-Breath-9443

Thank you!

BigRefrigerator9783

They are weeds, but for Christ sakes AT LEAST wear underpants. I shudder to think about the sunburns, splinters, and general chaffing.

Visual-Breath-9443

lol this was a typo. I meant to put “NEW TO” gardening. LOLLL but yes, I will most definitely wear at least underpants! Ha! Also thank you re: the weeds.

No_Economics_7295

The first one is a honeysuckle — the second one that’s a smaller vine looks like a clematis?

HauntedMeow

Bush honeysuckle and clematis

No_Economics_7295

Yes Asian bush honeysuckle and clematis

violet__violet

And just imagine if this WAS poison ivy or oak!!!!!!!!! 😵‍💫

I_am_pyxidis

I was thinking at least some boots.

BenjiFranklinsGhost

None of those are poison ivy

Visual-Breath-9443

Thank you!!!!

Lopsided_Parfait7127

that's good because, if you're nude gardening, you don't want poison ivy anywhere near you

TecHNizzle969

That first picture reminds me of all the honeysuckle coming up in my back yard

Visual-Breath-9443

Ooooh I’d love it to be honeysuckle!

TecHNizzle969

No I’m talking about the invasive Japanese honeysuckle.

ReformedRedditThug

Yeah there are native honeysuckles, but Amur and Japanese Honeysuckle completely destroy ecosystems in the US. My local park understory is dominated by these 2 and the invasive Burning Bush n Privet. I would use apps like PictureThis so you dont let random weeds or invasive plants eventually overrun your garden u/Visual-Breath-9443

TecHNizzle969

It’s the same here. It’s absolutely everywhere

robsc_16

Just an FYI, the first one pictured isn't usually referred to as Japanese honeysuckle. It's usually called bush honeysuckle or Amur honeysuckle. The species is specifically called Lonicera maackii.

TecHNizzle969

How can you tell which one is which

robsc_16

Sure! I believe this species is *Lonicera maackii* because of the lighter color leaves and the leaves are more acuminate (drawn out tips of the leaves) than Japanese honeysuckle. *Lonicera japonica* leaves are typically a lot darker of a green and they also have acuminate tips, but not as much as *Lonicera maackii*. You'll also typically see reddish stems on the new growth of *Lonicera maackii*.

TecHNizzle969

Thanks, I’m sure it’s Amur honeysuckle that’s everywhere. I just cut down two huge ones in my yard when I finally figured out what they were. I was horrified, my neighbors just let theirs grow unfortunately.

robsc_16

Yep, in my area they're both everywhere but Amur honeysuckle moreso. It's also a shrub while Japanese honeysuckle is a vine. Good on you for cutting yours out! I removed an acre of the stuff off of my property. Unfortunately most people just let the stuff grow unchecked.

Visual-Breath-9443

This is so helpful/ thank you again! I think I might have a lot of it! At least… a lot of weeds!

Visual-Breath-9443

Thank you so much for the clarification.

CharlesV_

That first photo is honeysuckle for sure. It’s a horrible invasive plant in North America. If you live in North America, pull that one and any others like it. It destroys native habitats.

BettietheBagel

Some of these look like clematis. Not the first photo but the others.

Visual-Breath-9443

Flowering clematis?

Nowrongbean

That’s what I’m seeing in a couple of those. Clematis.

GandalffladnaG

Yeah, 2, 3, and 5 are clematis.

nycola

This is correct, not sure what zone this is but even fall blooming clematis that are established would have more growth at this point. These look to have been recently planted and likely on their second year, maybe third.

BettietheBagel

They will need to establish before blooming. I’d expect flowers in the 3rd year.

honeybadgerbjj

Yeah, they will climb so you can add a trellis and they’ll love you

FromFluffToBuff

Given the title of the post, I did *not* read that second word as written.

Visual-Breath-9443

Oh that would be amazing!!!!!!!🤩

AllGarbage

I live in Arizona and have no idea what clematis is, but it sounds like something you won't catch if you put some clothes on while gardening.

GlitterIsInMyCoffee

My picturethis app identified it as a Virgin’s Bower clematis. It’s supposedly it’s an aggressive spreader, invasive in ten states and toxic to horses, dogs and cats. Just a heads up if you want to keep it. It’s beautiful in bloom. This site has info for where it’s native and other tips. https://www.gardenia.net/plant/clematis-virginiana

Chitown_mountain_boy

It’s also native to the Midwest and eastern US, sooooo.. there’s that.

WolfSilverOak

That looks like a young Clematis. Give it a trellis to climb on. Definitely no Poison Ivy in any of your photos.

Visual-Breath-9443

Amazing amazing. Thank you so much!!!!!! I will get a trellis today. How big should the trellis be? Will the clematis flower? So exciting! I’ve wanted more color in that area.

WolfSilverOak

Start small and go from there. It may not flower this year, but may next year.

Hahahahahahahaha

Visual-Breath-9443

I do actually have hydrangeas how did you know?!? lol

[deleted]

I misunderstood the nude part and I’m laughing so hard at my cubical 😂 best typo imo and the comments are amazing

huffleshuffle8

I’m also holding back tears in my cubicle after reading this post and comments 😂😂

[deleted]

I’m just imaging a dude, probably older, standing there naked (but still wearing crocs and a big sun hat at least) trying to figure out what he’s doing wrong with these weeds 🤣 I love it

oldgardenerlesbian

👀👀👀definitely a new trend I need to get on!

astoriaboundagain

Mulching would be brutal

Kantotheotter

So many splinters! And the bend and lift to get the new bags off the ground would give the whould neighborhood a show.

letreonehpets

VineStGuy

I don’t think you’re really going to enjoy gardening in the nude. Especially if you have dangley bits.

BoozeIsTherapyRight

Hello! Yes, that's a weed. Invasive Japanese honeysuckle, probably. Pull it. There is an app called PlantNet that I use to ID things like this. You take a pic with your phone and then ask it to ID. It's crowdsourced so you do have to take it with a grain of salt sometimes but it's free and quite helpful. Also super helpful if, like me, you stop when you see a cool plant in someone's garden and want one of your own, so you can ID it right there and then! Happy gardening!

the_bird_and_the_bee

I thought maybe "nude gardening" was some new form of gardening I wasn't aware of (not being naked and gardening lol) 😂 but either way I'm super glad for this typo. I'm cracking up at these comments

janeep

https://i.redd.it/t8d2mhltxm4d1.gif

Silent13ob

I thought oh yeah you definitely want to make sure it's not poisonous especially if your gardening in the nude.

wallstreetsimps

Why are you gardening nude if you have allergies.

BalrogPhysrep

Sounds very southern French.

WildMagazine4470

First is invasive Japanese honeysuckle, other is (probably) invasive clematis. I am battling both. If you let them grow, in a few years controlling them will be the majority of your gardening labor.

earthfairyhomestead

Best typo ever

Character-Pen3339

It always amazes me when people put down weed barriers if its black plastic sheets or weed barriers cloth and cover it with mulch and yes it will block weeds from sprouting up from dirt underneath it but as the mulch breaks down and the wind blows dust and weed seeds guess what is going to sprout up and grow anyways.

wenzelr2

It’s honeysuckle. Hang your balls out

Brilliant_Battle_304

Definitely just weeds. Even if you put the weed fabric down, weeds will still eventually come along. Either by birds pooping out seeds or even the mulch might have seeds in it that don't germinate till way later or they came in with the knockout roses or any other plants you may have planted. Plus alot of weeds will eventually grow right through the fabric. If I were you I'd just Google what poison ivy and oak look like just so you know for the future, theyre very distinct looking. Also, nude gardening is definitely a new one for me 😆

Moss-cle

I think it looks like clematis

LavenderAndLemons78

I laughed so hard, OP 🤣 At least we know what grabs people’s attention!

Visual-Breath-9443

Hahahaha ugh I guess so! 🤪

onepintboom

You’re suppose to tag NSFW. They might ban you. 😂😂😂

jomahuntington

Aye! I touched the poison ivy with me willy

NapsAreMyHobby

Weeds that grow on top of a barrier should be fairly easy to pull if you need to. Just wear gloves that you can wash well afterward, and bag anything you’re concerned about immediately. Or ask someone else to pull for you!

whatupwasabi

None of those photos look like poison ivy or oak.

DasGoobermensch

Hilarious typo but this is reddit, they aren’t coming, they are already here. Brace yourself.

Disgruntledgnome14

The third picture looks kind of like sweet autumn clematis. I have some of them in my gardens! I'm not sure about the other stuff!

_skank_hunt42

This is the funniest post r/gardening has seen for a while. lol I mean what better way to get rid of those tan lines?!

lisams1983

Picture This says amur honeysuckle and clematis. It does say amur honeysuckle is classified as invasive in the US, too. ETA honeysuckle is super easy to pull when small. It will be the bane of your existence if you let it grow. That stuff is a nightmare. I don't have clematis so I can't speak to that.

Visual-Breath-9443

Ah thank you! I’m gonna download that app ASAP!!!! clematis would be wonderful. Invasive weeds, not so much.

itieflies

Search “PictureThis” on the App Store and revel in the goodness of plant identification. It’s addictive.

Visual-Breath-9443

Ooooh thank you!!!!!!!!!🙏

BeginningFantastic46

They look like clemantis vines to me

BeginningFantastic46

The flowers could be any color they grow wild here in Montana. The wild ones have pale blue flowers that are about half the size of the garden kinds. I would leave it and give it something to climb.

Koen1999

It looks a bit like Calystegia sepium. I have the same weed in my garden, it keeps growing back.

Loztwallet

Picture 1 looks like oriental bittersweet, dig it out, it’s terrible and you don’t want it to spread. Picture 2 looks like a clematis. I’d think while you’re digging out the bittersweet you can bring that up as well. You’ll be able to confirm it’s clematis from it’s roots. They have very fleshy and long roots, imagine a fragile potato that was shaped more like a long sharpie. So dig deep on that one, the roots can easily go down 18”. If you decide to move it the golden rule with clematis is “head in the sun, feet in the shade”. Make sure you plant it where the roots aren’t in a hot and exposed location.

ksahu_55

2nd and 3rd pics look like Clematis to me

No_Phase_5922

I think you’re safe. I don’t think that’s poison ivy or oak. Poison ivy distinctly has three leaves per stem. Here’s a picture so you can tell the difference, but I don’t think that’s what you got. It probably is just some invasive weed or vine of some sort. https://preview.redd.it/2io83y2jym4d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cca024b69e0003223f92240998d71eed392af99c

fjf1085

Gardening in the nude while fun could lead to injuries or skin irritation. Be careful. 😂

skibib

I just have to say that after a day with lots of bad news for lots of people, this thread has brightened up my day! 😍😂🤣

Visual-Breath-9443

Awww glad my Siri fumble could be of service!!!!

bluekid3

invasive japanese honeysuckle. destroy it before it destroys you

outsidepointofvi3w

I protest ! I see absolutely no nudity here...

VisualWinner2420

Soooo...... Getting back to the query at hand, lol. I believe it's a weed, though I can't identify it, and I don't think it's a skin irritant. Does it vine? Where are you located? Are there others like it near it?

Roving_Rhythmatist

I don’t know this to be true for certain, but I heard that poison ivy never has symmetrical leaf stems. Just throwing that out there for someone to confirm or refute.

-Vegetable908

Hall pass

Public-Platypus2995

r/nudegardening I had to check. And I wasn’t disappointed.

SoggyMountain956

Disappointed there are no nude pics

IlleaglSmile

Hello, I’m allergic to plants I can’t identify and like to garden nude… a coupe of good first step: put clothes on and google the names of the plants you mentioned to see if they look like the plants you posted.

Lucky_Bare010

It’s so nice to see all the positive and funny comments about nude gardening. I’m a naturist and nude garden all the time and even if you don’t want to try it, it’s great to hear your accepting of other people comfort in doing so! 👍👍👣🌞🪴🌳🌴

Downtown-Trouble-146

FYI MAY 1st IS Garden in the Nude Personally I like to know why OP has 'nude' in their spell check app

SageLeaf1

Please take a selfie with the plant…

Financial_Temporary5

World naked gardening day was on May 4th.

sslade17

Second and third picture the plant appears to have square stems. mint family possibly

Fr05t_B1t

Rub it on

mood-park

So… weeds or poisonous??

AsRiversRunRed

Looks like a clematis
