I would cut into one of the weird ones and look for onion maggots

I checked and no pests of any kind. Another weird thing, with one that I started cooking with today, half of the cloves in the bulb were double and tripple cloves. Not two or three small cloves, but full sized. Before pealing they looked like single giant cloves. I normaly might get one double clove on a bulb, but not this many and not this size. I can't wait to see if they come back the same next year.
