Yes same with my girl, when I get home and let her out of her crate she grabs the first toy she sees and brings it to me. If there isnāt a toy directly in front of her crate sheāll grab her blanket on her way out and put it in my face
Funny you mention this. After mastering the "place" command, picnic tables have become my GSDs absolute favorite object to "place" on. There could be a picnic table 200 yards away, if I point to it he will take off like a rocket and "place" on it.

We moved the bench for her to have a spot to lay. My dining room table is legit scratched to hell bc occasionally when she thinks nobody is paying attention, she turns into a cat...
So she's always been around my one cat. She's five now and he is about to be 12. She defo has " I'm a cat" moments. We've moved a lot (orders) and every time I've been laid across till she's comfy. She's my lap horse.
not sure if this is a quirk butttt I would say my gsd is definitely more āpawyā than your typical dog. he basically communicates with his paws. heās been with his two sisters, aka cats, since he was a baby soooo I would say they definitely taught him

He looks just like my foster Lucia ā¤ļø
I'm convinced this is a GSD thing having had multiples and each have demonstrated at least some version of it.
Tight circles around the place she's about to poop.
Sometimes once, sometimes 10 times, every time.
And if there's a distraction before or even during, the distraction takes precedence and could possibly even forget they even have to go.
Mine likes to relocate shoes around the house. As a result I usually either wear mismatched crocs or look all over the house for the matching one. He will also bring shoes to me or my wife like they are an offering or something. He doesnāt damage them, just decides that he knows a better place for them. Maybe the kitchen or underneath the coffee table or on the bed.
If we feed him in a regular bowl, no matter what, he will pick it up and take it to his bed after a few bites and finish it there. We had to get heavy ceramic bowls to get him to stay in his feeding tray.
My pup does something similar, he takes all treats to his bed in the living room to eat them. It doesnāt matter if weāre in the office and he has a bed right there. It has to be living room bed.
I taught my dog to jump up on big flat boulders in our park since it seemed like a fun trick to keep her entertained. She took it to mean that she should sit on EVERY rock she could when on a walk. Have met a bunch of neighbours because my dog loves hanging out on the rocks at the end of their driveway!

Mine sucks his pillow when heās happy
The only spot on our king size bed where our female GSD will sleep is curled around my husband's head/shoulders on his pillow. Like a cat. She's 6 y/o amd 75 lbs š
Mine won't eat big food! Give her a chicken breast, and she carries it around like a chew toy. Take it away and break it into bite sized pieces, and she inhales it.
She's 7 1/2 and been like this since she was a baby. Talked to the vet, and he said every dog has their quirks, don't feed her big things.
Alot- gsd seem to have soo much personality.
The one that boggles my mind- they want to chase weeds. Every time I start to pull weeds theyāll both come over and stare at my hands with that unnervingly intense focus they get when theyāre gonna pounce on something. As soon as I throw it to the side they like to jump up to catch them in the air. Then they come back over and wait for the next one. ā¦ and thatās it. Itās pretty funny but they get weirdly intense abt it.
*sigh* my girl sometimes when bored very enthusiastically ācleans herselfā if you get my drift. The first time she did it I was really taken back but the vet said itās normal just either ignore her or tap the table or something to get her to stop.
Iāll never forget my wife saw it for the first time and in a very low tone said āā¦is she doing what I think sheās doingā lmao
A black piece of fuzzy fabric aka her "blanket". Literally just a pre-cut 2 yard piece of fuzzy fabric. We lined her crate with it to make it cozy for her when she was a pup. I started feeling it and it was damp but I knew she didn't go potty in it because she was trained. Turns out she started sucking on it like a pacifier. She gets it so ratty and gross we eventually had to throw it away and got her the same precut fabric and she never skipped a beat. We keep replacing the black fabric when it gets gross and she keeps taking the new one with no problem. It's her security blanket. We once tried with the same fabric type but purple in color and she wouldn't take it. Only takes the black color. Lol. It's still adorable and funny 6 years later.

Ya- laying in whatever form this is wherever she chose to nap
My girl used to hate walking on or near storm grates. We have no idea why. She passed a few years ago at 13 and every night we still go out on walks and always think of her when we pass them.
If I am absent from home for longer than he deems proper, mine will sneak upstairs and grab my sweaty workout shirt or dirty underwear from the hamper--which is closed, by the way--and bury them in various places in the backyard.
My German shepherd barks at inanimate objects sheās a foster. Iāve had her a year and a half. She was in the euthanasia list from the Central Valley. So socializing her is an everyday task but she is used to me and loves me. I live in a small condo so I have to walk her twice a day. But sheās a good dog ones she gets to know you but she does bark at cats.

Sonic loves to collect coconuts. He had a stash of over 20 , and he was very upset when we threw them away once they started to rot
Not really a quirk but Mum comes around each Monday and keeps him company while I leave for work early.
Last week, I had a cleaner come around. As Mum was putting his toys away, Kylo kept pulling them out š he's done it with me but I was a bit more forceful that they need to stay in the basket. Either that or he deemed Mum a soft target.

If you give her a treat ( no matter how small ) she will walk back to bed, get comfy then eat it, then get back up and come for another. Rinse and repeat.
The tenderest tummy in all creation plus a love of all vegetables and fruits which he really canāt have. Heāll have diarrhea through the night (thank goodness for hardwood floors) if he gets more than a thumb size of anything but his regular food.
He also hates to go in the car or on walks. He will stand up and wiggle out of his harness or sit his but down and refuse to move. He likes to play in our yard but just doesnāt want to leave home.
When I come home from work and let him out of his crate he runs around me and then stands up and wraps his front paws around me and gives me a hug. He's the bestest boy and I love him
She wonāt walk on any coverings on the street -> electrical panel covers, water main covers, man holes, etc. Wonāt jump over them either has to go around.
He walks backwards. Constantly. Heāll even pick up food from his bowl, walk 10 steps backwards and drop it on the floor to eat it. If youāre trying to walk past him and heās in your way, heāll walk backwards. We were actually worried he had a neurological disorder or something as a puppy but the vet said he was fine. Heās 4 years old now lol
Every treat, no matter where it is given to him in the house, must be consumed on his bed in the living room. He wonāt start chewing until heās on his bed.
We never taught him this and we have no idea why he does it.

She likes crawling under the couch and getting herself well in truly stuck almost every single time and whimpers needing to be rescued.
When he's excited, he *has* to have a ball in his mouth, every time I get home, he gets up, runs to get a ball, then comes to see me. I love him

My best friend had the exact same quirk!
I think it might be a shepherd thing. I am on my second shepherd and both did this.

Omg, heās snuggled up so cute with that pillow!!
Zel loves pillows! Legit mouths them to death.
My mix paws at our hands/arms and digs in to bring them towards her š„² she wasnāt done with pets š«”
Mine would be the bed has to be made or he wonāt lay on it. No exceptions.
That is funny and spoiled.
Too funny! Mine zoomies on her back to knock the covers off!
Standards! I like it.

Probably not strange or quirky but ours has really loud audible farts šØ
mine sits on the back of the couch where we rest our heads. she'll even lay her head on your shoulder when you're sitting on the couch

My GSD doesn't like flat things for some reason. She will bark and paw at things like flat rocks or frisbees.
Everything he does is strange.
My girl used to hate walking on or near storm grates. We have no idea why. She passed a few years ago at 13 and every night we still go out on walks and always think of her when we pass them.
Mine just puts most of his body weight into the back of my legs
Mine gets really excited when my other dog comes from a walk. But I mean really excited you think she hasn't seen him in years.
If I am absent from home for longer than he deems proper, mine will sneak upstairs and grab my sweaty workout shirt or dirty underwear from the hamper--which is closed, by the way--and bury them in various places in the backyard.

Mine refuses to eat unless I give him a command. This is my 2nd GSD that learned that on his own.
Mine won't eat unless I watch him. Starting to think they just want a buddy to chow with.
My bf's 12 year old GSD would rather sleep on his very old smushed bed or on the hard tile floor than on a new bed!
Not really a quirk but Mum comes around each Monday and keeps him company while I leave for work early. Last week, I had a cleaner come around. Every toy must go in any sort of water. Doesn't matter if it's her water dish, the pool, a puddle, hot tub, or my favorite, the toilet.
When I smooch him he is happy but then when I blow and make the sound he goes apeshit

Mine likes to lay down in front of the food bowl to eat. š
What a beautiful pooch!
Mine barks at cartoon dogs on tv.
He looks like my foster shepherd Lucia
My buddy is obsessed with chasing shadows.
The tenderest tummy in all creation plus a love of all vegetables and fruits which he really canāt have. If I take mine to the park, he HAS to check out the storm drains. He literally will walk over to them, boop them with his nose, and then keep going.
My guy loves to belch (but there may have been just a little positive reinforcement involved.) Multiple times a day, and at people.
Is this a trick question? They ALL have quirks...
When I come home from work and let him out of his crate he runs around me and then stands up and wraps his front paws around me and gives me a hug. He's the bestest boy and I love him
