Ditto. I’m not great with breads but cookies, brownies, cakes, etc are pretty simple if you follow a good gluten free recipe. And it tastes better than the store bought.
GF breads aren't too hard to make.. pinterest, Instagram and the internet have tons and tons of recipes. My hubby has celiac, and it took awhile, but now there's plenty of gf baking flours and products. Sooo much cheaper than store/bakery bought products.
I'm a newbie here, so I'll have to figure how to share, otherwise I can type out a few. Are you talking quick breads or yeast sandwich type? Since I got the zojirushi, (and especially since I'm still recouping from thumb surgery) I don't make any other sandwich bread other than that.
I wish I could find a good gf bread recipe for bread machine that is lower in calories. They all seem to be 200 calories for a normal-thinness slice. (Of course, bread machines make taller slices.)
I recently got a zojirushi bread machine.. hubby is so happy that our sliced bread is much bigger than store bought gf bread. No idea of the calorie count tho, especially since I've altered their printed one.
I have taken up baking things again when I have time.
Where I live lots of the even overpriced GF treats are gone off the shelves.
Walmart got rid of all their frozen GF desserts at our store.
Target discontinued a bunch.
The local coop has about 10% of what they used to and what they do have is nothing appealing.
We have one option for GF cake and I am allergic to something they use.
Those deserve to sit on the shelf unbought and uneaten.
I'm sincerely over paying the gluten free tax on everything. It's not my fault that wheat is stupid.
This. You’re telling me oats are THAT much more expensive??? Here the good brand of gf bread is $8 a loaf. I buy Trader Joe’s which is a bargain at $5 a loaf.
And this is why I keep a collection of different types of rice. Also, I make home made pita bread and pupusas. Occasionally I buy 4 gluten free hamburger buns for $5 at WM.
I know every post I make pushes this brand, but check out Duinkerken. They're in PEI and they sell the most reliable baking mixes I've ever seen. The cake and cookies and biscuits and muffins taste like normal people food and the bread is better than store bread. Not bad for $6 cad box
I make most of my own stuff. Made a fabulous almond flour cheese bread recently. My friend, who is not GF, ate most of it.
Take a pic of the ingredients and figure out how to make it. But somebody is buying that overpriced stuff as it keeps getting more expensive.
Just boycott it.
I'd love the recipe, please. If you wouldn't mind sharing. I'm brand new to GF, and just had blood work done today. I haven't had bread in a month, other than GF wraps for take-out burritos.
I usually eat crackers in place of bread, but I'd love bread for eating with my eggs.
I don't have the exact recipe but it's almond flour, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, baking powder, cheddar cheese and an egg.
There are lots of these recipes online. It's quick to make and delicious to eat! Better than anything you can buy in a store. I don't like GF bread from the store.
This is a bread but has a cheesey filling.

Have fun! You will adjust. At the end of the day a GF diet can help you eat a healthier diet if you avoid all the store bought GF items (i.e. oreo cookies).
Oh, wow, thanks so much 😍 this looks so yummy. I'm drooling just thinking of the recipe.
Our local store (in Canada) has a large "brick-sized" loaf of cheese bread. I dream about it from when I could still eat without worry 😭
It was heaven sliced thick like Texas toast and toasted with shaved ham.
Are you in the US? Trader Joes has excellent GF bread (white, hamburger buns) and if there are no Trader Joes near you, go to WHole Foods or some shop that has Canyon GF bread.
It took a while to find the good brands, but it is worth it. Whole Foods GF penne is very good and tastes almost like normal pasta.
Sadly, I'm in Canada, so we have no Trader Joe's. Whole Foods is almost 2 hours away.
I used GF Bisquick today and made some pretty amazing pancakes. First time using. I was so happy to eat something for breakfast that wasn't yogurt, and was bread-like.
I'm going to eat a hotdog in a pancake bun next bc I love Pogos/corn dogs.
I am really missing a regular hotdog in a bun
>I used GF Bisquick today and made some pretty amazing pancakes.
Nice. I hope you can find good GF foods. There are a few gf bakeries near me.
This has been helpful.

Meh. A couple of their products are decent (Pecan bar) but the blondies were crap, and they just repackaged the line to reduce the serving size and volume of the product significantly, which effectively increased the price by about 50%.
Shit like this is why I think everyone who has dietary restrictions should get food stamps. I've met other gluten-intolerant people who also can't have grains in general. Or potatoes. Or beans. Etc, etc. I've even met people who can't process animal protein. Finding food that's safe and enjoyable AND affordable feels impossible with ONE dietary restriction, let alone multiple, even when you make all your own meals.
Sorry I forgot Reddit is a hell hound website where if you make a typo or have a different opinion or miss something you get censored off the internet with negative a billion down-votes. I had a migraine so I did read it too quickly. Also my mild dyslexia makes me skip words when I read them sometimes. Not your problem I know, just saying.
Quite honestly though I find sugar free (which it isn't) tends to be the biggest price riser. Though I don't actually think it's all that expensive all things considered.
When I went GF, I just cut out all bread/cookies/etc. These days? I just don't miss that sweet stuff.
Most of that stuff... loses its luster when you kick sugar.
I’ve seen reports where the average is 300% more expensive. I’ve noticed a trend near me where most gf is approximately $15/lbs. on sale it doesn’t seem to go below $10/lbs
This is why I cook/bake/prep at home. GF, keto, you name it, is so overpriced nowadays because a lot of people see it as a "trendy" thing. I was able to make a batch of GF *and* flourless peanut butter cookies that tasted AMAZING for less than a dollar. They also held up really well in the pantry compared to gluten cookies.
It’s ridiculous how expensive packaged GF food is that’s why I stick to real foods like fruit, vegetables and some raw nuts for snacks but it would be nice to have a slice of cake once in a while without having to take out a second mortgage
hey neighbor! two fields can be pricey but as a treat i will get myself one of their gf cannolis for i think $4.50. not cheap but not as expensive as some of their other items and they pipe them to order :)
I once of. $22.00
Gluten bread is not good! The money I’ve spent on bread that I threw out
The bread that I eat is Italian Bread loaf usually found in the freezer. The name brand is Greenlite. U can get it at Amazon and Whole Foods. I found this bread in Wegmans so it’s starting to get popular !!!
Keep looking in your freezer section. It’s a winner👍👍👍
I'm GF for over 25 years, but considering how RARELY I have treats like this, $14 a couple times a year wouldn't stop me from getting it. If I was a fat ass always eating that stuff, I'd have to do something more economical for sure.
This is why I bake.

Do you have a recipe recommendation? Baked goods are easy for me, but my breads aren’t very successful.

The loopywhisk came out with a cookbook called baked to perfection. All her bread recipes are amazing! Highly recommend
Exactly

going gluten-free is my villain* origin story *baker
This is why I don't eat empty calorie junk food.
THANK YOU!
Avoid Canada, lol. The prices for GF stuff might break your mind
I once paid $14.99 for a loaf of gf bread.
And this is why I keep a collection of different types of rice. Also, I make home made pita bread and pupusas. Occasionally I buy 4 gluten free hamburger buns for $5 at WM.
Ah yes, the hockey pucks or crumble bread. I too dabble with the bread.
I know every post I make pushes this brand, but check out Duinkerken. They're in PEI and they sell the most reliable baking mixes I've ever seen. The cake and cookies and biscuits and muffins taste like normal people food and the bread is better than store bread. Not bad for $6 cad box
Food prices right now + gluten-free tax is crazy.
https://www.target.com/p/veggies-made-great-frozen-gluten-free-blondie-bites-10oz/-/A-89093502 These are so good!
Added to cart!
I absolutely love blondies too but that's a lot for GF :( but I swear by those from Target. You just throw them in the microwave for 20 seconds.
These sound terrible but I just want you, internet stranger, to know that I’m trusting you on this as I add these to my cart
Hahaha the veggies are well hidden, promise! We really like all of their desserts, especially the brownies and chocolate chip muffins!
I know the ingredients don't sound ideal for something sweet but I promise they're good! My picky husband tried one and loved it.
Just for this.. I need to restock for a few. Before they sell out everywhere 😂💀
I’ve had other muffins from these guys and they were delish, but I’ve never seen these 😍

Yes thank you. I recently found that site and I contributed to it.
No, no... I don't pay.
"You pay:" No I will not. That does not even look particularly appetizing. You can make way more GF goods for that price.
For this you should just make it yourself
It’s fun free. Lol. I bet it’s dry af.
What’s crazy is I saw the price and didn’t think it’s that ridiculous. It’s depressing how expensive everything gluten free is
They do it because they can get away with it.
We just got a gluten free pizza dough where we work, we have had a regular for ever and its 1.49. The Gf is 3.99 :(
Those legitimately look like drywall cakes 🤣
Check out Ethel’s baking. I think they ship nationwide and are in most Whole Foods stores.
Meh. A couple of their products are decent (Pecan bar) but the blondies were crap, and they just repackaged the line to reduce the serving size and volume of the product significantly, which effectively increased the price by about 50%.
Oh I didn’t know that. That’s a bummer!

So easy to bake this type of stuff.
Nope!!!
That’s not just gluten free though…
??? It says Gluten free right on it.
I never said it wasn’t gluten free. Read again.

TF
You have to multiple the price for every thing it is “free” of.
Where do you live that’s kinda normal where I am
I’ve discovered 1/4t. Of xantham gum with 1:1 gf flour, and you can bake almost any quick bread/ cookie
It's really gotten out of hand. There's no reason our food should be 2 or 3x the price.
Easy to bake your own This price is ridiculous
It’s giving an overly priced regional supermarket… but I’ve seen those in person too and they don’t look worth the $14 something dollars 😭
I’ve seen reports where the average is 300% more expensive. I’ve noticed a trend near me where most gf is approximately $15/lbs. on sale it doesn’t seem to go below $10/lbs
😱
😮💨
I just dropped $28 on two loaves of fresh-baked GF bread from a local bakery. Wednesday is the day they do GF, so there’s no cross-contamination.

Thank you for posting, exactly what I wanted
In what currency?
USD
That’s everything free though.
There’s a small cake slice you find in stores and it’s $15 and it’s so dry. Not worth it.
Well, i hope they use protection and take us out after they duck us in the butt
No matter how much I want something I will not overpay. They rape us enough already.
