hi, im friends with the person that made this and its a really unfortunate coincidence that it looks like that, he got inspired when he saw my portal gun which has many signatures and wanted to do one of his own with a bunch of signatures of people from the half-life 2 speedrun community (along with a few portal runners like myself), making a really colorful portal gun is significantly easier than making a really colorful smg/shotgun which is probably why he didnt change the base initially, and white is just a good color to pair with black. He is working on making a new set of skins for the smg and the shotgun that do not look like that, though he didnt upload it to the workshop so if he can get in contact with the person that put them up they will (hopefully) be taken down.
Speaking of which, I just finished adding a colored variant of the SMG if anyone is interested. It's currently on [Gamebanana](https://gamebanana.com/mods/490327) (since I don't want it on the workshop quite yet)
hes gonna run at gdq soon so if many people on reddit see it as the christchurch shooters gun im sure some people will think of that there as well given the viewership, either way with how hes coloring it actually looks pretty sick

Its not comparable at fucking all. One is white grafitti signatures of speedrunners for the HL2 Shotgun and SMG, the other is unstyilized bland white writing on an AR-15.

what really sucks is the mod is actually pretty cool, speedrunners are really talented people so to deck out a gun in their signatures is cool as all.

Hey guys, original creator of the mod here. I thought it would be a cool idea to have my weapons that I use in my half-life 2 speedruns to be signed by past and present speedrunners. This was a huge oversight and im deeply sorry for any false impressions I have made. I'm debating taking it down from gamebanana and starting a new series (one that hopefully doesn't resemble you know what), but given how someone has ripped it and uploaded it to the workshop without my permission, I don't know if that will completely stop the spread. Thank you

If you feel you really need to differentiate them change the colors of some of the signatures to common sharpie colors.
That's currently what I'm messing with. Having different colors would also make the weapons signatures more diverse and eye catching. Given how I'm going to be running at GDQ in the near future, oversights such as the one that sparked this post is not something I wish to show off onfront of thousands of people.

We were both unaware of the reference said in chat and it's being changed up to a different design, so anyone hoping this wasn't a direct reference to a shooters weapon is correct, it was simply just a way of including new and old runners of the community alike onto some weapons. The feedback is resulting in a reskin as I said earlier since this wasn't the original intentions at all.
I get the fact that those weapon skin mods resembles the Christchurch shooter's gun, but they're not the same thing. The skin mods don't have exactly the same writings that the shooter had, just some speedrunners signatures and not some nonsense stuff that shooter's gun had. It's like saying that the Japanese flag is really similar to Third Reich flag, or the Spanish flag with N. Macedonian flag, two different concepts basically
