That shaved tummy makes it so much more rubbable! A cone is just a megaphone to announce to the world that one is deserving of extra treats and snuggles! A bowel obstruction means you got to eat something delicious!
Just trying to put a positive spin on things. β₯οΈ

Nothing breaks a goldens spirit. Koda was very accident prone in his youth as well!
Our golden literally just went through this, it was such an awful experience. He had his surgery 3 weeks ago tomorrow and he is seriously back to 100% his crazy self. The first week was very rough, I won't lie. It's super important and pretty damn hard to keep him as still as you can. Our vet gave us trazodone, a sedative, to keep him still and it basically made him sleep all day. It was sad and I missed his craziness but it was a godsend. Keep a close eye on the incision, our vet had us put a loose t shirt on him for the first week that we changed daily just to keep the fresh incision from touching too many dirty surfaces. Don't be too stressed out if his appetite kind of comes and goes for the first few days. It was a rough road for sure, and has made us much more vigilant in watching what he puts in his mouth but 3 weeks (and $12KCAD) later he is 100% back to normal. If you have any questions or just want to commiserate on the experience feel free to reach out! Best wishes to your boy, it's a shitty situation but he should be just fine β€οΈ
My boy had surgery a few months ago for retained testicles. The plastic collar scared him, I didn't even have a chance to show him that it wasn't bad because it scared him so much. So I got him an inflatable one, he chewed it to play and ran around the house thinking he had the collar in his mouth. From the first moment he understood that he should not take it out and he just played with it. A little uncomfortable to sleep in, but he figured out how to sleep comfortably.
I wish your boy a speedy recovery!

Sending positive thoughts and healing prayers for a speedy recovery for your beautiful fur baby. Sending you and your family lots of hugs and love during this time, it's never easy for us either.β€οΈ
When we had our Luce the Goose (aka Lucie) spayed last month, we bought a Kuoser Recovery Suit from Amazon. It completely negated the need for a cone of shame and she was much more comfortable. Just thought Iβd share. Speedy recovery to your sweet baby.
Ours had this done at 2 he's 12.5 now. He'll be ok. Became a really picky eater though...

In a few days he is going to want to moving and jumping. For the love of god please make him take it easy so you donβt have to turn around and get a hernia fixed like my dachshund. He had an obstruction and then gave himself a hernia because I couldnβt watch him 24/7.
Poor baby. I'm sorry you gotta deal with so much bad luck. Im sending you my best wishes and all the luck I can muster. πβοΈ ππ° π§ π π² π§Ώ πͺ¬ π€ π΄π
My oldest had to have this surgery when she was 1 year old, she ate the stuffing of her dog bed. Don't be alarmed the next day after surgery, he will be super sore and tired after the meds start waring off.
Also, surgery of this kind should not be costing 10k...unless it's like 3am on the vets wedding day or some shit. Mine cost around 1,400 USD 3ish years ago. Make sure you guys are shopping around and find a trusted Vet that isn't trying to milk you dry.
Aww, poor fella, at least he has a comfy bed, and I hope he's well soon! May I know what the obstruction was though, or maybe that's something you can't tell anyone?
Iβm so sorry your sweet boy has had to go through so much at such a young age. Itβs clear heβs a fighter, and his resilience is truly inspiring. Sending all the good vibes and healing thoughts his way for a smooth recovery. Heβs lucky to have such caring humans by his side. Stay strong, little guy!
My knuckle head did the same thing swallowing a kids bouncy ball. He hated that e-collar like it was the devil. He was back to peak golden in about 2 days. Amazingly resilient dogs are.
Get better soon...
My Lilo had this exact surgery too back in September from eating baby socks π. Recovery does suck. Just take it one day at a time. Also donβt panic if your doggy doesnβt poop for while! Mine didnβt poop for close to a week and I was freaking out about it, and it was fine. Sending healing vibes your way!
Sorry if you see two comments from me! My brain cant reddit this morning.
Obi sends his love! He is 4 but he had 2 major abdominal obstruction surgeries in his first 3 years of life. One was a foam nerf ball he picked up on a friends property, the other was a corn cob he fished from my inlaws garbage. He actually ate 3 cobs and he threw up 2 but the third got stuck in his stomach and we didnt want to risk it getting lodged in his throat. Obi knows how hard the surgery and recover are but the worst part is over and now your baby has you to help heal! You got this!
