Because he only submits his best “scores” and goes years between reporting those. All of them are made up anyway. Everyone that’s played a round with him including pro golfers, businessmen, friends, enemies all say he’s an 8-12 handicap. Only fellow politicians and people who rely on him for their livelihood claim that he’s a scratch guy. Sad because shooting an 82 is pretty impressive but he still feels the need to cheat on every round.

Met someone who caddied for him. Told us he was expected to constantly run ahead to: throw his ball further down the fairway, move the ball out of hazards and bunkers onto the fairway, and in general just make his life easier. Was the fastest I’ve ever trusted someone I never met before.
I shot 67 in our senior club championship this year, both days. In fact, I've shot 67 in every round I've played this year, about 50 rounds.
Sadly, I have always to take a bunch more shots after I get to 67 if I want to finish the round.

The father of one of my best friends played on tour for over 10 years and was matched up with the Don well before he was president (late 90s early 00s) at a pro am event. He said he would blatantly cheat. He would hit a ball out of bounds and had his entourage security detail run ahead to spot the ball and ‘find’ it in bounds much farther ahead than where it had gone out. He asked him what the point of playing was if he was going to cheat. He supposedly responded with “I cheat in business, on my wife, and on my taxes, why wouldn’t I cheat in golf?”

If he is that good he should get Netflix (or other objective 3rd party) to follow him for a round. Film every shot and shut up the doubters. Of course he won't because, well, that proves what we all know.
According to *Commander in Cheat* by Rick Reilly, he's a solid golfer, very good for his age, but not this good and he cheats like a dog. Apparently, he has also won tournaments that only he played in and won tournaments by using his score from when he played the day before the tournament started.
I just finished reading that book, it confirmed all of the things I've heard about him from other members at that club (Bedminster). He's actually a decent golfer, but feels the need to cheat beyond belief because he can't handle losing.

The father of one of my best friends played on tour for over 10 years and was matched up with the Don well before he was president (late 90s early 00s) at a pro am event. He said he would blatantly cheat. He would hit a ball out of bounds and had his entourage security detail run ahead to spot the ball and ‘find’ it in bounds much farther ahead than where it had gone out. He asked him what the point of playing was if he was going to cheat. He supposedly responded with “I cheat in business, on my wife, and on my taxes, why wouldn’t I cheat in golf?”
This couldn’t have happened- a man who only tells the truth about how much he lies?! 😂
