jaywalkintotheocean

i buy new hats.

stashtv

The only real way. Have a set of hats that aren't for golf, then they get retired to only golf.

Knuk1e

This is the only answer.

BluesFan43

Says the people that can wear ordinary hats. I need XXL and deep

Knuk1e

That’s what she said.

BadDadSoSad

Titleist hats are $40 bucks these days. And I sweat through mine in a few weeks.

jaywalkintotheocean

this is why i buy $20 puma hats hah

itsfinallyfinals

I use a water proofing spray on the whole hat when I buy it. I wash it a couple times then throw it away. At some point it’s just gone

flipsideshesh

I may be wrong but that waterproofed can’t be good for your scalp.

itsfinallyfinals

If you find any information that it’s bad let me know. I cant find any at the moment

mustbeshitinme

If Reddit Gold were still a thing, you’d get some.

jaywalkintotheocean

👊

FabulousNews3574

New hat new me

Ayahuasca-Dreamin

Honestly the best cure is prevention. After a sweat round, just rinse your hat good with water.

z3ntinel

This is the way..

WholeHogRawDog

Yup

sungodly

I take mine in the shower with me after a round and just use whatever body soap I use to wash the rest of me. Hang it to dry and all is well. I've been rocking a white TaylorMade hat for the last three seasons and it looks practically brand new.

onlypostwhenimdrnk69

I actually wear my entire outfit fit into the shower. Start with my shoes ( they are waterproof duh) so I get all the grass and dirt off of those. Just rinse the shirt pants and underwear off. I do like to clean my ears with my tees before rinsing them off and then just soap up the socks and wash your body. Where my only other golf outfit the next day while the other dries. Wash, rinse and repeat.

NeverForTheWin

Solid, experienced player there. Going places beyond the course.

TacosAreJustice

But do you have a cold shower coach?

onlypostwhenimdrnk69

Start with cold water til you get to the soaping the socks part. Then hot.

yippy_skippy99

What about your clubs? They need love too, and some nice smelling shampoo

onlypostwhenimdrnk69

lol, I forgot about that part!! Of course you wash the clubs. You plug the shower so they can soak. With the grips outside of the shower( I apply a little bacon grease on them so the dog cleans those for me.

MicMikeFoley

This was all practical until you got to the dog part. What If I don't have a dog?

onlypostwhenimdrnk69

1) Do yourself a favor and get a dog. They are awesome or 2) play with dirty grips. Only one real option here.

Funky-Cold-Hemp

No reason you can't do the bacon grease thing yourself.

hellsludge666

A man that knows no space in time.

DwinDolvak

No clubs? I shower with my whole bag and all of my golf balls.

Monst3r_Live

Def got a 12 wood

ShoLuver

is this real?

cool_ethan19

It is. I use shampoo, leave the hat on, and wash it like you are washing your hair. Without a doubt the best solution I have found.

skg555

Why the hell would you do that instead of just washing it on its own? Jfc wearing a cap in shower smh lol.

sungodly

Absolutely. It's a charm.

slothevolved

This. I do this as well

Dunwin

Best method I've found. Works great on a lot of hats but there are some that for whatever reason just don't wash sweat stains out

A7xWicked

I do this as well. But I use shampoo because it's good for removing oils and crap from the fibers. My white hats look great

FCTekers

This is the way. Saved all my super sweaty hats from FL summers

ballin24712

Google laundry stripping. Just did all my golf hats and it worked incredibly well. https://www.drivenbydecor.com/laundry-strip-recipe/

youritalianjob

Important to include that it can also strip some of the dye and might cause fading. We do this with towels that have that funk that comes back quicker than it should.

elpollosuperloco

I think this is the real answer.

P_Kordus

I’ll be saving this, thank you!

h0zR

OxyClean, hot water, and a bucket - read it here last year and it's a game changer. Let it soak \~10 minutes then rinse and let dry. Hats came out like new!!! Wish I could remember the poster for credit.

CptBadAss2016

Exactly what I do too. I also like to gently scrub the sweatband and stitching with my roommates toothbrush if I've neglected the hat for too long. I use the unscented version, green lid I think? "OxyFree" or something.

DelrayDad561

Been doing this method for years, this is the way.

defzx

Did this last night but with cold water and it worked great.

Human_Box_6509

It’s not the quickest method but the best thing to remove stains is a little dish soap, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Rub it in with a tooth brush and then rinse it off.

Peterd90

I bought those plastic cap washing frames from Amazon for $15. They keep the shape of the hat in the washer and worked really well.

innocuousname773

Use the dishwasher if you have one

No-Future-1840

The citric acid in most dish soap is will ruin your hats

Bit_the_Bullitt

You run the dishwasher without the detergent if you're washing hats

djp70117

I've used detergent. No issues.

Bit_the_Bullitt

He was talking about dish soap. You also for sure do not want to run dish soap in a dishwasher. It'll overflow due to the suds. With laundry detergent I'm sure it's fine. Hw was specifically calling out dish soap.

djp70117

I have put hats in the dw with dw detergent. No issues.

No-Future-1840

Doesn’t seem like it would clean as well but maybe I’ll give that a try

Bit_the_Bullitt

It does very well. Just did 2 baseball hats that get a lot of use and 1 golf hat. Came out perfectly clean. I know you can't use dishwasher soap in a dishwasher as it'll overflow with suds. But I dunno how would a tiny drop of laundry soap work. Also, I ran a dishwasher cleaner through the dishwasher before doing any of this.

innocuousname773

Might be true but havent had any issues for the 15 years ive been doing it. Watch the soap you use if you do this, gents

No-Future-1840

I’ve never had any issues with throwing it in the laundry either, I think either way really works. Better than when I used to just scrub them with an old toothbrush

wvtriguy

A plastic hat frame from Amazon and run them through the dishwasher on the top shelf. Just get them out right away and leave them in the frame to dry. If they are yellowing even after washing, mix equal parts salt and white vinegar and let them soak

cheme32

I do this and use Shout to spray the forehead area. I found old-school powdered dishwasher detergent without scent or citric acid on Amazon. It works pretty well. I've had the same light Grey Titleist hat for 4 years now.

tomskapolska

I just throw it in the washing machine and it comes out fine.

roycejefferson

I have over 50 hats and have never had an issue I. The washing machine

TDurdenOne

Main thing with this is do not throw it in the dryer, let it dry outside in the sun. The heat from the dryer will shrink a lot of materials hats are made with.

My-Cousin-Bobby

Yeah I thought this was common knowledge, I always just throw them in the wash every other round or so

Accomplished-Tax-211

Finally! This is the way.

NeverForTheWin

Nope.

Deep_Application2592

Top rack of the dishwasher

Aromatic_Ad_7484

Do you set any certain settings

Deep_Application2592

Delicate cycle and Cascade dishwasher pods. Just make sure your detergent doesn’t have any type of bleach/whitener in it. We have a Bosch dishwasher which uses some weird convection heating to dry dishes. It’s very good for actual dishes but not very effective at drying the hats. Just make sure you don’t leave the hats in the dishwasher overnight after the cycle ends or they’ll sit there in the cool, dark, damp dishwasher and start to smell funky.

Billiam_99

This^^^

the2ndworstusername

Vinegar helped on mine

mwf86

I tried that but the hat smelled like vinegar. What did you do to get rid of that smell?

the2ndworstusername

Got it sweaty again lol.

wyezwunn

Baking soda gets rid of fabric smells. Mix with water or vinegar.

sidewaysbynine

I will try this, thanks

derdkp

Instead of sweating, try panting.

PATRIOT5280

Underrated comment right here

Deadtree301

Shampoo

TreAwayDeuce

I soak my hat in a bowl of hot water and laundry detergent for 15-20 minutes after it gets particularly sweaty. Stays looking new.

ImportantReward4976

Put it on the top shelf of your dishwasher and let it go through a complete cycle. Remove as soon as it finishes to speed up drying

Hlca

Folex

Omw2fyb_homie

Magic erasers, bruv! Plenty of videos on how to do it.

Biggz1313

Oxyclean for sweat stains my man.

Ill_Association8074

Melin hats are great golf/overall hats. Rinse after use and let dry (not in direct sunlight) and good as new. They are pretty expensive but so so worth the money.

shifty_coder

Try an enzyme stain remover. They give the best results for organic matter stains.

PapiSciullo

They make sweat pads you put in the front of your hat. I also have a sweat preventer spray you can double up with. Has helped with all color hats. But I also was off the sweat on bad rounds lightly to prevent it building up.

phng25

I use sweat liners for hats from amazon that go in the hat where the crown/forehead are. It usually soaks up the sweat and minimizes the stains.

Sittingbear420

Dishwasher. Get the little hat “cage” and hang to air dry in the cage so it doesn’t lose its shape. Always works for me

RedpilotG5

Take it into the shower with you after the round

TommyEagleMi

I spray them with stain removal, wait an hour and run them thru top rack in dishwasher when my wife isn't home because she says. Oh gross. 🤣

Bighead_Golf

Hats don’t last forever…

hawaiianlaker

Spray n wash works for me

Legal-Description483

Wash them as soon as you get home from your round, and the stains will come out. Let them dry, and they are there forever.

[deleted]

If the hat is already stained there is no risk with hitting the interior with spray and wash and throwing it the washer for a delicate cycle with some t shirts.

Say_Hennething

Powder detergent and soak.

Dunesgirl

Stain remover to pre treat, then run it in the dishwasher on the top rack (yes, it can go in with actual dishes and flatware, and yes, you use dishwasher detergent. Not fool proof but have had very good results.

Whitey661

I’ve also noticed that with the TM hats. I’m also a sweat lord

daddydunc

Dawn platinum and a stiff bristle toothbrush.

4eva20lurkin

Soak in hot water with a little laundry detergent and oxy clean. Then rinse/brush. I have a few white hats that I need to do this with a couple times a season.

1969Stingray

Oxyclean

noflatbillcaps

Wear your hat in the shower after your round. Clean with bar soap, while still on your head. Wash soap out and hang dry.

Fishing_freak1010

For really nasty hats nothing works better than soaking them in a bucket with some borax and dawn overnight. Then rinse and air dry.

JJ_JetFlyin

Leave on in the shower and shampoo it. Have a hat that’s been through a lot and still looks new

egomxrtem

Buy more hats

Toph-Builds-the-fire

When it happens that hat becomes my new golf hat.

UnkPaul

I toss mine in the washer on delicate. Then line dry.

MoTownKid

For me cold water with a little laundry detergent in a sink, get the water sudsy and let the hats soak for 10-15 minutes take them out and rinse off. I've heard oxiclean works well too if the stains are bad.

icouldntquitedecide

I haven't found anything that will remove them once they're dry. For preventative though, every time I get a new hat, I spray 4-5 coats of Scotchgard on and let it hang for a day or 2 before wearing. Works really well. Water will be beading off for months, and you can reapply anytime. No change in color or appearance either.

Sonoma2002

Just put it in the laundry with some shout sprayed on it, let it air dry after. I haven't had any issues doing it that way.

wildcatfan9698

Spray them down with 50/50 mix of Simple Green and water. Let it soak 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Works like a charm

StrawberryAlarming50

I use an Oxi spray then run them through the washing machine in one of the plastic hat frames. I just let them air dry in the frame, I don't think a hot dryer would be great for the hat.

[deleted]

Washing machine delicate cold water air dry

AbovePar208

I’ve been using this on new hats and it has worked great! [Hat Saver](https://hatsaver.com/)

cpmb82

Dishwasher, top shelf, good as new

Max-Larson

Don’t look

beagledad69420

A hat isn’t the same after it is washed. I use water repellent on a new hat and works incredibly well at not showing sweat stains.

smithandjones4e

Dawn Dish Soap. Get it really lathered up and let it absorb before rinsing thoroughly.  Source:  caddie at a club with white hats.

Strict_Jacket3648

I throw mine in the washing machine then put it on a balloon to dry.

dirigo1820

I just buy new hats, but then continue to wear the same ratty one that I planned to replace.

Big-game-james42

I use the washing machine with these…. https://preview.redd.it/9qw8jaocx7fc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d79ae52aac5335d6d4b727379bcbb5838303be28

ryguyflyhighwifi

Oxy clean soak

CuthbertJTwillie

Dishwasher

Content_Geologist420

Magic eraser

pheldozer

Woolite in the sink. Air dry.

Flash_a-ah

Soak in an Oxiclean solution in a large bowl for 4-6 hours (make sure the whole hat is submerged, I usually weight it down), rinse with water, let dry. Works like a charm, especially on my white hats.

Chibakins

Shampoo in the shower has always worked for me.

Golfnpickle

I just wash mine in the dishwasher on the top shelf & it comes out fine. I have over a 100 golf caps. I like to coordinate with all my outfits.😀

daddyknowsbest65

Wash them in the dishwasher

mbn8807

I do the washing machine with free and clear detergent. Hats are no longer made with cardboard brims so there is no reason to worry it’s plastic and water proof. I air dry when done.

Similar-Squirrel-980

Baking soda and little water, make a paste and rub it into your hat with a toothbrush. Let it sit for a bit, toss it into the wash on a regular cycle (throw a towel or two in there to take up some space), and it’ll be brand new when you’re done

NeverForTheWin

We muni players pride ourselves on our sweat-stained caps. Reflects the effort to shoot a respectable 97.

rickleyland

Dishwasher top rack 👌

mnsundevil

Mr Clean magic eraser.

Wolverine2121

I bought a plastic cap washing cage on Amazon and wash them in the dishwasher. Never had any issues (knock on wood). I see add for these liners all the time but don't know anyone who uses them. https://nosweatco.com/products/hat-liners?variant=16935769636935

tallslim1960

Dishwasher. Top rack

Aimpoint1028

Run cold water over the entire Cap and wipe down with a wash cloth. It works every time for me. I have saved dozens of Hats and Caps. I also put a rubber band on the brim while the Cap is soaked and let it air dry.

knotworkin

I put mine in the wash (hats only) on delicate cycle and then let them air dry. Works for me.

Honey_Badger29

Hand wash in the sink with laundry detergent and stain remover. Spray on stain remover, Let it soak in the sink for a bit, give it a scrub and rinse it off. It’s a lot easier if you do it as soon as you start to notice the sweat stains. If you wait a year you probably can’t get them out.

automatic4skin

i put hot glue on my scalp so the sweat doesnt get through

Monst3r_Live

Just buy a new one a say oops I dunno how this scotty ended up in my hat hunny

Fiveaces2023

Spray with laundry prewash the put in the dishwasher. Amazingly works well.

GreenBayFlan

I’ve never found a good solution tbh. I absolutely destroy hats on the golf course between sweat and sunscreen. Last season, I went on amazon and bought 3 blank flex fit hats all different colours for $12 a piece. I wore those exclusively while golfing and threw them away at the end of season. I plan to do the same this season.

usa1234567890

Fill up the sink the warm water and a bit of laundry soap… let them soak 15-20 mins, then a gentle scrub with an old toothbrush… after air drying, they’ll be like new

RumbleB33-585

This doesn’t answer your current issue but plays into prevention! My suggestion in preventing sweat stains is get hat liners. I sweat quite a bit and the stains always happen. The built up sweat also can make my forehead break out after a long day on the course. These have preserved my hats incredibly well. I change them out once every few rounds. Has also helped any acne! It’s easy to tell when they soak up enough sweat and get wrinkly. [Sweat liners I use](https://nosweatco.com/products/golf-hat-liners?variant=32024119672916)

eclectictaste1

I throw my hats in the wash with my sweaty shirts. Come out just fine. The trick is to do it after every round, don't wait.

GibsonBluesGuy

I put mine in a hat frame and pop them into the dishwasher at low temp no detergent.

SeymourButts8190

Shower and shampoo with your hat on will work great

Bassbob46

So I can destroy a hat in one sweaty round. Before it gets too bad I have found an overnight soak in oxy clean and warm water to do the trick. Then rinse the next day and air dry outside. If it gets too bad, nothing will help it. I will also just take hats in the shower with me after a round. I’ve found Melin brand hats to be very resistant to staining. I’ll rinse with water after a lot of sweat and they end up look g good as new. Expensive but I’ve found them to be worth it and have even picked up a couple used ones that are good as new.

iferio

Use shampoo. Cheap shampoo with sulfates. It gets it right off

GolfNutOM

Go in a pool with the hat and rub out the stains. LoL. Stains will be gone. It works. Not sure about hat longevity doing it this way. I usually just wear white hats in the summer so you don’t get the white sweat stains.

Bit_the_Bullitt

I've played baseball in college and still do and am a sweaty guy. When I got into golf I realized how much I sweat into my hats. I've tried soft brush and sink with warm water a tad of detergent, but didn't do much. I've done the upper shelf of dishwasher and lighter mode and so far that's been the best results. It does make the brim tad softer, but best clean yet

goagod

I put mine in the dishwasher. It works great.

wash_cold

I wash all my hats in the bathroom sink using a soft bristle tooth brush and shampoo

megaglenbeck

Throw it in the dishwasher.. makes it look like new

United-Term7322

Put in the dishwasher

DwinDolvak

I rinse them right after I play and then put them in the freezer to “dry”. I read that someplace (probably this subreddit). The freezer kills all of the bacteria that causes nasty ass odors.

Historical-Step-4054

I use the dish washer

oltop

yoooo my wife got stoned the other day and saw some tick tock. She soaked all my hats in oxiclean and they came out brand new

SMKEpiphone

Fill kitchen sink with warm water, little laundry detergent with little dish soap. Let sit for a few hours, rinse and hang up to dry.

Party-Ad-7279

Dawn dish soap and peroxide

The-Dog-Envier

You probably need a new driver. Or hat... Better grab both.

g3kkers

Oxyclean, diluted in a gallon bucket and use a soft bristle brush or your hands to massage the hat. Let air dry on the dishwasher rack

SomeSamples

Nope. Unless you have a washable hat. Most are not washable. Buying new hats is a thing.

midgolfer

Dish washer shape will hold and does a pretty good job cleaning

Lopsided-Ad4948

I got one of those hat cages you can get on Amazon pretty cheap. Then you throw the hat in the laundry with some oxy clean on the gentle cycle. Then let them air dry. Seems to do the trick and isn’t too rough on the hat.

Lobsterzilla

I’ve used heat protectant spray with good results

Manner-Former

They’ve got liners that go in hats, pretty cheap like $1 for 10 and I replace them every 3-5 wears

Personal_Acadia3504

Best thing to do is when you find a hat you love buy 12 of them!

meaksy

Put it through the dishwasher. Gets them clean without ruining their shape.

HBC3

Removing them, no. Preventing them - YES. https://preview.redd.it/dmg66aqvw8fc1.png?width=2452&format=png&auto=webp&s=c0fcd1bbb84e9de920201f2229f272609a6982f6 You spray this where you don’t want sweat stains to appear - mostly along the hat/bill seam. Do it where there is ventilation because the smell is very gasoline-y. Let it sit. Done and done. Never another sweat stain.

JeepahsCreepahs

I use the spray dish soap with warm water and a club brush… cleans up perfectly! Do the same thing for my footjoys (all leather premiums or whatever) and they look new all the time!

chrispudge

I read somewhere once to take a shower with the hat in scrub it with shampoo on your head and the then let it air dry after you rinse it..hat keeps its shape and sweat stains removed

makithejap

Once the get sweat+sun the stains are burnt in.

bakakon1

I use to go buy hats at dicks sporting goods and found out some people leave used hat and replace it with a new one. Leaving the used one in the shelves.

ptdume

dishwasher, top rack.

simom_says123

Full tub 6 inches of warm water. Detergent, baking soda and Borax. Let sit for 4 hours. Empty fill up, add in those 3, flip hats, let soak for another 4. Rinse and dry. If stain remains. Spray stain remover (shout) take a dryer sheet and work it in and the stain should come out.

Trebor711

I use a special hat shaper for the washing machine after pretreating the stubborn areas. I usually let the pretreat soak for a while. Then after washing I just the same hat shaper for the dryer. I do this with the three main hats I use and just rotate between them.

mrdctaylor

I saw on YouTube or somewhere how to do this and it totally works. Use a Magic Eraser (melamine sponge) and warm water. I add a drop of laundry detergent too. Works great.

TheSonofDon

Take lessons + get fitted = no sweat

lawnboy22

Dishwasher has always worked for me

nosekcidnewo

Dawn Powerwash

Buffalo_Man_0

Spray hydrogen peroxide on the hat when you get home

MoekenTroll

What works for me is just throwing it in the washer next time you’re doing laundry. Just take it out and let it air dry after.

Gothewahs

Buy a cream coloured hat

Expensive_Sky4654

Hydrogen peroxide

theFP1992

I have a white Augusta National hat that is my absolute favorite that got sweat stains from wearing while playing this summer. Definitely not one you’d throw away. Mixed some baking soda and water together and applied to the stains. Worked like a charm

sliight

When mine are dirty I just shower and use shampoo on it while wearing it... Scrub the crap out of it. Then rinse hot in the sink. Most hats recover... If it's repeated sweat and it's crystallized it may not work though at this point

Level-Engineering625

Fill up the bathtub with warm water. Add 1-2 cups of detergent in the water & mix it. Dunk the hat & with a scrub brush. After brushing & rinsing, put the hat on the bottom side of a bowl so it won’t lose its figure while it dries. You could do this with any hat.

Minimalist_Investor_

Wear a visor. Doesn’t show the sweat.

goodythedude

Ball cap buddy.

Cheeto6666

Hot water plus a dash of oxy clean. Sit in tub of water overnight. Works well for me.

CashMirMir

MagicEraser (melamine foam) Works great with warm water and soap!

jump-blues-5678

Urine is an amazing cleaner. Simply piss in your hat, let dry, then wear. Everyone will be impressed. PS, drink lots of water first, or don't. Your call
