I take mine in the shower with me after a round and just use whatever body soap I use to wash the rest of me. Hang it to dry and all is well. I've been rocking a white TaylorMade hat for the last three seasons and it looks practically brand new.
I actually wear my entire outfit fit into the shower. Start with my shoes ( they are waterproof duh) so I get all the grass and dirt off of those. Just rinse the shirt pants and underwear off. I do like to clean my ears with my tees before rinsing them off and then just soap up the socks and wash your body. Where my only other golf outfit the next day while the other dries. Wash, rinse and repeat.
lol, I forgot about that part!! Of course you wash the clubs. You plug the shower so they can soak. With the grips outside of the shower( I apply a little bacon grease on them so the dog cleans those for me.
Important to include that it can also strip some of the dye and might cause fading.
We do this with towels that have that funk that comes back quicker than it should.
OxyClean, hot water, and a bucket - read it here last year and it's a game changer. Let it soak \~10 minutes then rinse and let dry. Hats came out like new!!! Wish I could remember the poster for credit.
Exactly what I do too. I also like to gently scrub the sweatband and stitching with my roommates toothbrush if I've neglected the hat for too long.
I use the unscented version, green lid I think? "OxyFree" or something.
It’s not the quickest method but the best thing to remove stains is a little dish soap, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Rub it in with a tooth brush and then rinse it off.

I’ve never had any issues with throwing it in the laundry either, I think either way really works. Better than when I used to just scrub them with an old toothbrush
A plastic hat frame from Amazon and run them through the dishwasher on the top shelf. Just get them out right away and leave them in the frame to dry.
If they are yellowing even after washing, mix equal parts salt and white vinegar and let them soak
I do this and use Shout to spray the forehead area. I found old-school powdered dishwasher detergent without scent or citric acid on Amazon. It works pretty well. I've had the same light Grey Titleist hat for 4 years now.
Main thing with this is do not throw it in the dryer, let it dry outside in the sun. The heat from the dryer will shrink a lot of materials hats are made with.
Delicate cycle and Cascade dishwasher pods. Just make sure your detergent doesn’t have any type of bleach/whitener in it.
We have a Bosch dishwasher which uses some weird convection heating to dry dishes. It’s very good for actual dishes but not very effective at drying the hats. Just make sure you don’t leave the hats in the dishwasher overnight after the cycle ends or they’ll sit there in the cool, dark, damp dishwasher and start to smell funky.
Melin hats are great golf/overall hats. Rinse after use and let dry (not in direct sunlight) and good as new. They are pretty expensive but so so worth the money.
They make sweat pads you put in the front of your hat. I also have a sweat preventer spray you can double up with. Has helped with all color hats. But I also was off the sweat on bad rounds lightly to prevent it building up.
If the hat is already stained there is no risk with hitting the interior with spray and wash and throwing it the washer for a delicate cycle with some t shirts.
Stain remover to pre treat, then run it in the dishwasher on the top rack (yes, it can go in with actual dishes and flatware, and yes, you use dishwasher detergent. Not fool proof but have had very good results.
Soak in hot water with a little laundry detergent and oxy clean. Then rinse/brush. I have a few white hats that I need to do this with a couple times a season.
For me cold water with a little laundry detergent in a sink, get the water sudsy and let the hats soak for 10-15 minutes take them out and rinse off.
I've heard oxiclean works well too if the stains are bad.
I haven't found anything that will remove them once they're dry. For preventative though, every time I get a new hat, I spray 4-5 coats of Scotchgard on and let it hang for a day or 2 before wearing. Works really well. Water will be beading off for months, and you can reapply anytime. No change in color or appearance either.
I use an Oxi spray then run them through the washing machine in one of the plastic hat frames. I just let them air dry in the frame, I don't think a hot dryer would be great for the hat.

Run cold water over the entire Cap and wipe down with a wash cloth. It works every time for me. I have saved dozens of Hats and Caps. I also put a rubber band on the brim while the Cap is soaked and let it air dry.
Hand wash in the sink with laundry detergent and stain remover. Spray on stain remover, Let it soak in the sink for a bit, give it a scrub and rinse it off. It’s a lot easier if you do it as soon as you start to notice the sweat stains. If you wait a year you probably can’t get them out.
I’ve never found a good solution tbh. I absolutely destroy hats on the golf course between sweat and sunscreen. Last season, I went on amazon and bought 3 blank flex fit hats all different colours for $12 a piece. I wore those exclusively while golfing and threw them away at the end of season. I plan to do the same this season.

My suggestion in preventing sweat stains is get hat liners. I sweat quite a bit and the stains always happen. The built up sweat also can make my forehead break out after a long day on the course.
These have preserved my hats incredibly well. I change them out once every few rounds. Has also helped any acne! It’s easy to tell when they soak up enough sweat and get wrinkly.

So I can destroy a hat in one sweaty round. Before it gets too bad I have found an overnight soak in oxy clean and warm water to do the trick. Then rinse the next day and air dry outside. If it gets too bad, nothing will help it. I will also just take hats in the shower with me after a round.
I’ve found Melin brand hats to be very resistant to staining. I’ll rinse with water after a lot of sweat and they end up look g good as new. Expensive but I’ve found them to be worth it and have even picked up a couple used ones that are good as new.
Go in a pool with the hat and rub out the stains. LoL. Stains will be gone. It works. Not sure about hat longevity doing it this way. I usually just wear white hats in the summer so you don’t get the white sweat stains.

I got one of those hat cages you can get on Amazon pretty cheap. Then you throw the hat in the laundry with some oxy clean on the gentle cycle. Then let them air dry. Seems to do the trick and isn’t too rough on the hat.

You spray this where you don’t want sweat stains to appear - mostly along the hat/bill seam. Do it where there is ventilation because the smell is very gasoline-y. Let it sit. Done and done. Never another sweat stain.
I use the spray dish soap with warm water and a club brush… cleans up perfectly!
Do the same thing for my footjoys (all leather premiums or whatever) and they look new all the time!
I read somewhere once to take a shower with the hat in scrub it with shampoo on your head and the then let it air dry after you rinse it..hat keeps its shape and sweat stains removed
I use to go buy hats at dicks sporting goods and found out some people leave used hat and replace it with a new one. Leaving the used one in the shelves.
Full tub 6 inches of warm water. Detergent, baking soda and Borax. Let sit for 4 hours. Empty fill up, add in those 3, flip hats, let soak for another 4. Rinse and dry. If stain remains. Spray stain remover (shout) take a dryer sheet and work it in and the stain should come out.
I use a special hat shaper for the washing machine after pretreating the stubborn areas. I usually let the pretreat soak for a while. Then after washing I just the same hat shaper for the dryer. I do this with the three main hats I use and just rotate between them.
I saw on YouTube or somewhere how to do this and it totally works. Use a Magic Eraser (melamine sponge) and warm water. I add a drop of laundry detergent too. Works great.
I have a white Augusta National hat that is my absolute favorite that got sweat stains from wearing while playing this summer. Definitely not one you’d throw away. Mixed some baking soda and water together and applied to the stains. Worked like a charm
When mine are dirty I just shower and use shampoo on it while wearing it... Scrub the crap out of it. Then rinse hot in the sink.
Most hats recover... If it's repeated sweat and it's crystallized it may not work though at this point
Fill up the bathtub with warm water. Add 1-2 cups of detergent in the water & mix it. Dunk the hat & with a scrub brush. After brushing & rinsing, put the hat on the bottom side of a bowl so it won’t lose its figure while it dries. You could do this with any hat.
Urine is an amazing cleaner. Simply piss in your hat, let dry, then wear. Everyone will be impressed.

I use a water proofing spray on the whole hat when I buy it. I wash it a couple times then throw it away. At some point it’s just gone

Try an enzyme stain remover. They give the best results for organic matter stains.
They make sweat pads you put in the front of your hat. I also have a sweat preventer spray you can double up with. Has helped with all color hats. But I also was off the sweat on bad rounds lightly to prevent it building up.
I use sweat liners for hats from amazon that go in the hat where the crown/forehead are. It usually soaks up the sweat and minimizes the stains.
Dishwasher. Get the little hat “cage” and hang to air dry in the cage so it doesn’t lose its shape. Always works for me

I’ve used heat protectant spray with good results
They’ve got liners that go in hats, pretty cheap like $1 for 10 and I replace them every 3-5 wears

Do it where there is ventilation because the smell is very gasoline-y. Let it sit. Done and done. Never another sweat stain.
I use the spray dish soap with warm water and a club brush… cleans up perfectly! Do the same thing for my footjoys (all leather premiums or whatever) and they look new all the time!
I read somewhere once to take a shower with the hat in scrub it with shampoo on your head and the then let it air dry after you rinse it..hat keeps its shape and sweat stains removed
Once the get sweat+sun the stains are burnt in.
I use to go buy hats at dicks sporting goods and found out some people leave used hat and replace it with a new one. Leaving the used one in the shelves.

Full tub 6 inches of warm water. Detergent, baking soda and Borax. Let sit for 4 hours. Empty fill up, add in those 3, flip hats, let soak for another 4. Rinse and dry. If stain remains. Spray stain remover (shout) take a dryer sheet and work it in and the stain should come out.
I use a special hat shaper for the washing machine after pretreating the stubborn areas. I usually let the pretreat soak for a while. Then after washing I just the same hat shaper for the dryer. I do this with the three main hats I use and just rotate between them.
I saw on YouTube or somewhere how to do this and it totally works. Use a Magic Eraser (melamine sponge) and warm water. I add a drop of laundry detergent too. Works great.

What works for me is just throwing it in the washer next time you’re doing laundry. Just take it out and let it air dry after.

I have a white Augusta National hat that is my absolute favorite that got sweat stains from wearing while playing this summer. Definitely not one you’d throw away. Mixed some baking soda and water together and applied to the stains. Worked like a charm
When mine are dirty I just shower and use shampoo on it while wearing it... Scrub the crap out of it. Then rinse hot in the sink. Most hats recover... If it's repeated sweat and it's crystallized it may not work though at this point
Fill up the bathtub with warm water. Add 1-2 cups of detergent in the water & mix it. Dunk the hat & with a scrub brush. After brushing & rinsing, put the hat on the bottom side of a bowl so it won’t lose its figure while it dries. You could do this with any hat.
Wear a visor. Doesn’t show the sweat.
