HoopOnPoop

I wear my golf shoes when watching golf and practice my ball repair technique in the living room carpet.

Floaded93

Last year I went to my buddy’s for the Masters in my full getup, shorts, shoes, shirt, glove and all. You never know when they need someone off the bench.

icheinbir

You think Augusta is letting you tag in with your shorts on? What a ridiculous notion...

Floaded93

You’re right, I’ll better prepare next week.

zeromadcowz

That’s why I always keep the zipped off pant legs nearby.

sliperiestofthepetes

This guy gets it

maggos

Reminds me of how from middle school through highschool I always wore basketball shorts under my jeans. It was just what kids at my school did. Then finally my girlfriend asked my why I would do that. I thought for a second and said “you never know when a pickup game is going to break out”. That’s also when I realize how dumb it was.

[deleted]

What’s exactly is a ball repair?

Sagybagy

It’s when you have to stuff the shit back in it after knocking it out. Happens when you drive over 450 yards.

MoistySquirts

This made me laugh, thanks.

Eat-My-Cloaca

I wear my golf shoes when practicing golf

Actual-Ad5078

I practice the way I play. Why would you not wear your golf shoes when golfing?

DoctorOzface

That's why I wear sunglasses and a hat even if it's cloudy and covered. And why I bring 8 beers to the range

MrZero3229

Agreed. I also bring my Bluetooth speaker and regularly tell old guys and children to fuck off.

clairweather

I spend 4.5 hours at the range and smoke two cigars

anti76hero

Train how you fight.

Revolutionary_Bid300

I also try to wear what I'm playing in, but no beer. :/

HighLifeDrinker

That’s why I have my wife stand behind me holding a tree branch right over my head at the range. Gotta practice the shots you’ll see on the course.

Actual-Ad5078

I mean it’s not really a bad idea. If the range had an area next to trees I would def incorporate it into my routine.

Georgep0rwell

I've always wondered why ranges don't have uphill, downhill and side-hill lies to practice on. I would use them....if I can figure out how to hit a ball off of a flat lie first.

dyhyrid

On that same note, you should practice opposite hand club turned for the occasional tree recovery shots. Seems silly to do on the range but if you only use it once or twice a season it's still a good shot to have in your bag.

Actual-Ad5078

Totally agree and I actually do this

dyhyrid

I've been ribbed for doing in this on the range, but i've pulled it out a couple of times in matches and it's always fun to see the look on their face when you get out of trouble playing wrong handed

Whaty0urname

Don't lie. Your wife left you last year for some guy that consistently plays bogey golf.

ConsciousBandicoot53

Couldn’t agree more. When I play I keep a tee behind my right ear, divot tool in right pocket and nothing on my left side. I do the exact same thing (including golf shoes) on the range. I want to keep all variables within my control the same.

redditsuckbadly

Couldn’t agree more. When I play I keep a camelbak of jack on my back, a joint in my right pocket and never wear underwear. I do the exact same thing (including Percocet) on the range. I want to keep all variables within my control, and I am in control, the same.

ConsciousBandicoot53

lol I love you

Actual-Ad5078

This is next level but I like it!

ConsciousBandicoot53

lol it started as a slight homage to Tin Cup and it just stuck

koung

My wife used to give me shit for wearing golf clothes to the range. I asked her what she thinks I do at the range that is different than a round of 18.

TheBonusWings

Hit the ball straight

koung

I have nothing to say to this because it is 100% accurate so fuck you and great burn.

TheBonusWings

![gif](giphy|13CZvcyiCe23uw)

cuongfu

The moral of the story: Do it if you think it helps you, otherwise don’t. I sometimes wear my golf shoes when I want to really practice and get the right feels and sometimes I wear street shoes when I’m going to just hit balls and hang out with friends. All situational.

WeAreAllFooked

If you're on a mat your spikes aren't going to penetrate in to the mat like they would on grass.

Actual-Ad5078

If you wear golf shoes on the course you should be wearing the same ones at the range. Golf’s already hard enough why would you add another variable. I’m not showing up to the range in jeans and sneakers!

WeAreAllFooked

Hitting off flat range mats makes no difference when you get on a course since they’re not flat and no two lies are the same. Balls are constantly higher or lower than your feet are, so that variable changes anyways.

chorizomane

This guy gets it

iNteg

i 100% throw on a golf polo, or pullover, and golf pants, and my golf shoes when i go to the range. it's mental but i feel more connected and i dont have to worry about a t-shirt or something feeling different than a polo or pullover in my swing making me feel weird. i dunno, i just dont want that mental change.

Actual-Ad5078

I totally agree. The only thing is I believe it is more than just mental. Jeans won’t let you move as freely and different shoes may let you sit closer to the ground and throw off impact. People who don’t do this probably as way more casual.

iNteg

I’m not good at golf. I need all the help I can get right now.

cursh14

You notice the common theme here is people bad at golf ascribing all this superstitious nonsense to their results and how to practice? Meanwhile the good players just worry about their swing. I used to have all these weird things I attributed to my failure or success in my golf game. Like needing to have my pockets empty when swinging. Etc. It turns out my swing was shit. Not all this other nonsense. I guarantee wearing vs not wearing golf shoes on a golf mat is not dictating your golfing success at all.

WalkinSteveHawkin

It still makes a difference. For example, I realized my swing was utter shit, as opposed to mostly shit, when I tried wearing sneakers to the range one time and couldn’t keep my balance with longer clubs.

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Because it’s on artificial turf

Careful_Cheesecake30

Is artificial turf slip proof?

Actual-Ad5078

And? You are still golfing. I just never understood why people do this. Replicate the course as closely as you can. Golf’s hard enough as it is why throw another variable in there?

cursh14

Do you honestly think your shoes are affecting you this much on a mat? The point of golf shoes is to prevent slipping. Are you wearing the same clothes every round? Same underwear? Legit. This is some unnecessary shit. Of all my friends who are legit golfers, none of them do this. And you are pitching it like it's some obvious way to practice. What a looney tune.

Actual-Ad5078

Well the upvotes on my original comment would tell me there are lots of people who do this. Would you wear sandles to go hoop too?

cursh14

Sandals to hoop would impede your ability to perform. Not wearing golf shoes on a mat does not. And wearing golf shoes on a mat is whatever. But pretending it doesn't make sense NOT to is fucking absurd.  I would love to see people who agree with you vs think you are out of your mind stratified by handicap.

Actual-Ad5078

Pros warm up at the range in golf shoes. If you want to be a casual that’s fine but don’t act like it’s absurd.

gfunk55

That ain't even close to what anyone is talking about here

megatroncsr2

what if you have multiple pairs of golf shoes?

Pybus89

Yeah but you’re hitting of a surface you don’t usually hit off with balls you wouldn’t use to play with. I don’t dress for the range like I would on a course. Range is just to keep the swing going.

Actual-Ad5078

You do you but I’m not going to the range in jeans and sneakers.

adamforte

you're not wearing a polo and pants, though, right? t-shirt and shorts like a normal human, right?

Actual-Ad5078

Depends on the weather but it is always some form of golf apparel

Pybus89

Jeans are a push lol I’m just saying I wouldn’t wear spikes. I have spike less golf shoes for the range (and dry courses) it’s just unfair to ruin a mat for the others who use it.

HighLifeDrinker

I wear my golf shoes to go buy balls at the PGA Superstore. Never know when the urge to try a new club will strike.

[deleted]

Absolutely. My sneakers are taller and it messes up my contact

UseDaSchwartz

Hope you never have an uneven lie.

RoostasTowel

Not on the range mats I havent

Low_Understanding_85

This is not a good thing. No two lies are the same out on course.

patiofurnature

They can be pretty damn similar if you land on the fairway.

CJP_94

Land on the what?

thekingofcrash7

I didn’t think we were allowed to do that

Specialist-Suit-2167

I wear spikeless shoes

Murfdigidy

This, I have spikeless golf shoes for the range and for bone dry days. Anything rainy, dewy, or remotely wet I wear normal spikes.

Specialist-Suit-2167

Pretty much the same as myself. You don't need spikes on range mats, they do nothing except make you a cm or so taller which is not really ideal when practicing

Known-Marketing-2233

Are all you golf shoe wearers also wearing your full golf kits? I like to practice how I play - drunk.

cA05GfJ2K6

I will wear normal athletic clothes with spikeless golf shoes

HappyToBeHaggard

If you're not wearing knickers while golfing you're not really golfing.

wronglyzorro

Sometimes. There isn't really that much to a standard "golf kit". Collared shirt and shorts. I typically practice in athletic clothes, but If im wearing a polo that day, I'll practice in it.

Key_Respond_16

I wear spikeless golf shoes and I wear the same clothes and shoes no matter where I am playing. I already suck. No need to make it harder by feeling different in practice to course.

thosetwoloons2

Pro Tip: For traction, use “old” golf shoes to push mow and/or weedeat steep ditches.

Rea1EyesRea1ize

TIL. Genius. I'll stop fucking up my nice sneakers that I'll "never mow in" until I did that one fucking time...

bannyd1221

I used to throw javelin in high school - I had metal spikes that I could screw into the bottoms of my shoes. I would choose 1” spikes when I’d mow my lawn. Firstly our front yard had a steep hill so i got traction. Secondly it aerated the lawn! My parents loved it!

unvvendel3000

Not anymore. It’s an easy injury to avoid. Your shoes soft spikes lock into artificial turf while your knees keep turning. Natural turf gives. Artificial doesn’t.

jimmyjimjimjimmy

My knees thank me for wearing sneakers on mays!

unvvendel3000

Yes they do jimx4

One-Statistician4885

Nope just sneakers with decent tread. What about indoors/sim?

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Well, the indoor Sim that I’ve gone to is like a bar and a social club so I feel weird wearing golf shoes there

im_super_excited

Golf is about goofy pants and a fat ass No one cares about your shoes

BathtubGin01

It’s been 4 hours and nobody made the joke… My neighbor, the accountant, wears goofy pants and has a fat ass. I bet he’s great at golf. Whatever Also, I’ve played a lot of golf barefoot and in flip flops over the years. You aren’t climbing any hills in those bays so you don’t really need spikes.

WhosYourPapa

>Golf is about goofy pants and a fat ass I'd buy this if it was on a t-shirt

Functionally_Human

Depends on the range. Natural grass? Yes. Turf/mats? No. For some reason I get no grip on those with my golf shoes but am just fine in sneakers.

BroodLord1962

None spiked golf shoes

Wu_Tang_Financial77

Hitting balls in your sneakers tears them the fuck up. Of course I’m wearing my golf shoes.

CPD001988

Agreed. Used to feel like a dork wearing golf shoes to practice but tore up a few pairs of running shoes. Also golf shoes are nice if that mats are wet in the morning

Character_Wishbone84

I'm concerned for your sneakers.

Wu_Tang_Financial77

The toe gets worn

Cantseetheline_Russ

Also, I’ve blown out the sides of multiple pairs running shoes. The lateral shift and twist is too much for the mesh.

Wu_Tang_Financial77

Golf shoes live a hard life. That’s why they age like organic fruit.

crimsonblueku

Same

supernicedog

Sometimes. If I have it planned out, I’ll wear them but if it’s spur of the moment, I’ll just wear sneakers. Haven’t seen much of a difference either way

PartyThe_TerrorPig

You’re a 20 hdc aren’t ya

PFalcone33

No.

w1tnessGG

i wear my golf shoes from the minute i leave my house until i get home from golf

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Really ! I feel like I’m wearing my spikes down when I walk in the cart part

ChesterDrawerz

I wear them to bed. Hope that helps OP.

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Gives you traction when your fucking, I can get behind that

PingDingDongBong

Depends. I probably wear my golf shoes to the range 50% of the time.

SasukesLeftArm69

I always have terrible range sessions when I don’t wear my golf shoes so I always wear them now

jigre1

Absolutely, but only spikeless at the range.

Max-Pow3R

I'm wearing my Adidas Ultraboost golf shoes as daily wear shoes about 1/3 of the time. I find them comfortable, and then I'm always ready.

Ok-Armadillo-9923

I wear normal ultra boost and have worn them to the range before. But I find the cushion to be too high off the ground, so when I swing I notice it tears up the front left side of my left shoe. Are do you experience that with golf ultra boost golf shoes ?

Max-Pow3R

I've never had the regular ones so I haven't tried to hit in them. As for the golf version I've only been able to play one round in them so far. I've taken them to the indoor simulator off of the mats 3 times already though and they still look and feel new. I was concerned about how well they will hold up over the course of a season (since they are expensive), but I only get out about 12-15 times a year, and not too much range time. I don't know if you would find them as comfortable as the regular for normal use since I can tell the nubs on on them when walking around, but the cushioning is so smooth I don't even think about it. I also don't hit the ball very long so if you torque a lot of power into your front foot they might hold up less.

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Yeah tend to turn my left foot onto its outside edge when I finish my swing and when I wore my boost it wasn’t a smooth turn it was more jerky cuz the hight of the sole. I looked into getting the golf version but didn’t because of that.

flaginorout

Usually just sneakers.

Wibbly23

Fuck no lol. Unless it's before a round.

MarineBand5524

Yep 100%

Bobbyoot47

I wear my old golf shoes at the range whether it’s on mats or grass. They’re comfy like slippers but I just don’t think they east last 18 holes walking. I wear my new ones when playing. Frankly I don’t notice the difference enough to worry about it.

Training_Swimming358

Only when I hit a bucket at the course after hitting pitch shots. I wear Nike React Phantom Flyknits indoor at the domes for winter practice.

opiate82

I have a pair of spikeless shoes I wear for practice sessions (range, putting, short game). Also use them if the course is super dry and firm. They look more or less like a normal running/athletic shoe so I don’t even feel the need to change in and out of them. Can throw them on at home and don’t feel weird wearing them if I need to run an errand or something going to or from the course.

Dunesgirl

Yes.

Forward_Record932

Spikeless all the time.

Alan6969

Always, I even wear them when I’m watching golf

Player7592

No. Probably should. Too dang lazy.

Most-Luck9724

Always

EsageTN

Yes

EsageTN

Yes

Legal-Description483

.Yes, all my shoes are spikeless, and I wear them on mats.

norcalgolfgolf

My place has a grass driving range. So yes.

westrph

I never wear my golf shoes to the range. Even once the grass tees are open. My sneakers and my golf shoes have about the same lift.

mabowden

My feet hurt a little if I don't. My feet flex less in golf shoes than in trainers or the like. I wear spikeless to the range and sometimes on the course if it is dry.

I_cant_hear_you_27

I normally try to wear my golf shoes at the range. My back foot tends to slip out if i dont. Plus they are a little taller than my regular shoes so it messes with my low point.

spacejam9

At the range, yes. Probably because I already have them on and change shoes at my car. At the indoor sim? No. I wear street shoes.

myredditthrowaway201

I don’t normally but I went this Sunday after the rains in San Diego and felt like Scottie scheffler

crimsonblueku

Yes because if I don’t I’m prone to ripe off the soles of my tennis shoes. Aggressive right toe drag through impact

BatMean2045

No, just my tennis shoes when its mats for practice. Soft spikes if Im playing a round and warming up.

hhtran16

Yes. But you do you.

None_too_Soft

Well I have like 6 or 7 serviceable pairs gotta show em all off somehow. But in truth I believe 'practice like you play' and grind contact is a huge part of the swing, why invite more variable into an already crazy swing

randomname10131013

I don't wear them ever.

SmokeThursday

I’ve worn the Jordan ADG 4 golf shoes to Top Golf, so yeah. Just do whatever you want and makes you feel comfortable. This game is hard enough as it is, so might as well eliminate as many unnecessary swing thoughts as you can when you’re practicing.

AnxiousMind7820

Yes, but I rarely practice on mats.

MPHBridgetown

I was just thinking the other day why more of the big golf shoe brands don’t market “range shoes” but then figured most golfers typically practice in their main golf shoes to keep consistent feel from range to course. I still think it’d be interesting to see if “range shoes” would sell though

Two_dump_chump

No

Reddit-is-trash-lol

Isn’t flip flops and jorts at the range proper attire?

[deleted]

I just wear TRUE Linkswear shoes everywhere. The office. The store. The course.

hiktorvovland

No

Wooden-Consequence81

Practice as I play. Including practicing kicking balls out of the rough on the fairway.

Mancey_

Wear my spikeless set

Hagoozac

I just wear tennis shoes always.

SlyFrog

I've changed my opinion on this. I sometimes just wear trail shoes now. I used to do the "OMG I have to wear the same thing I play in!" thing. Recently, I've changed tactics and have been trying to reduce the things that have to be perfect/exactly right for me to swing a golf club. I don't need a brain that is thinking "OMG I have to be wearing the right shoes" or "OMG I can't have anything in my pocket while I swing the club." So I mix it up to reduce the neuroticism that I'm convinced doesn't help a game long term.

Shibalsheki

Yes because it started destroying my regular shoes. My soles detached on the left side of my left shoe

jmais

Quit changing to golf shoes if it's just a local range. Put them on for the range at the course. Am lazy, though

Musclesturtle

Everyone should be wearing their golf shoes when hitting golf balls in any capacity. Your golf shoes likely have different height soles than your street/casual shoes. This difference in mm will fuck your swing up fast. Just take your golf shoes to the range.

Ziid10

Na

eramification_4_U

Thise spineless golf shoes only. Not on the course

DarthSamwiseAtreides

Nope. Hell sometimes I don't even golf in golf shoes.

Glasterz

I either hit grass ranges or I go to our imitation TopGolf, and I sure as hell ain't switching into golf shoes to go there. It's kinda funny that a big, expensive entertainment range with TopTracer winds up being cheaper than most of the ranges around me. They just give you 50% off if you say you have a season pass to a pair of local courses, nobody checks a thing lmao

SomeSamples

I wear my golf shoes at the range even on matts. Practice as you play. Plus golf shoes are made to withstand the lateral stresses. I have blown out some running shoes at the range.

BigRig432

I wear spikeless shoes so yeah, but when I had spikes I'd wear them on the mats too

The_Nutz16

Golf shoes on mats is bad for your knees and ankles. They feel like they get too locked up to me.

jkurtis23

I have an older pair that I wear only at the range

dragonrite

My golf shoes are the first thing I do when I get out of my car to the course lol.

yk78

Im lazy and just wear crocs and tennis shoes. The latter because I play tennis and hit the range sometimes before or after practice.

dubious311

If I'm playing after the range or doing a serious range session, then yes. If I'm hitting a bucket during my lunch break, then no.

workthesaw

I wore golf shoes with spikes to range and twisted my knee because of the immense grip. My leading knee couldn’t move. I’d say spineless gold shoes would be better

skycake10

I have an older pair of spikeless shoes that are partially worn that I wear on range mats (wearing them on range mats is how they originally got so worn in the first place).

AltruisticAd8338

I take my shoes off before I enter the pad. Asian style

International_Ad6696

Mats

rrickgauer

No I’m not a tool

P1nKm0nK

Yes I do.

buyerbeware23

No sneakers and they feel so good I think of golfing with them!

redlightning2112

Yes why wouldn’t you

logmen1

Yep, I wear all my gear when practicing. It just helps with that mindset when it's time to play a round. If you can reduce the novelty as much as possible when it counts then I find it helps.

iLikeLift1

I do but because my range is my country club and dress code is enforced

chorizomane

I wear mine when I practice because it’s both psychological and physical for me. I don’t want to have a different feel under my feet on the greens, and seeing golf shoes verses tennis shoes at address. I like to see and feel the same. I prefer consistency on and off the course.

fckmetotears

No but I hit off a mat that sits on concrete

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Yeah in Cleveland where I’m at that’s, what most ranges are

Chemical-Design-3300

Yes, different shoes flex differently. Height difference with spikes. Etc.

Bubbly_Bullfrog_106

Depends on how much time I have. If I get to the range and its really busy and I want to rush to get a spot I leave the shoes behind. Generally I like to control all variables. Feel every feel as if I am playing a round. Sometimes I forget. I have a sim in my garage so I take my golf stuff out a lot. Sometimes I grab my bag to go to the range and forget the shoes. I know I have a sim why go to the range. Its just nice to change it up sometimes and be outside on a nice day.

Canadian_Adam98

I’ve never worn or owned golf shoes, always just worn sneakers

[deleted]

Man of culture.

According-Fly1644

No if anything I do the spikeless bc they are smaller

drivermcgyver

Usually just my socks..

bigwillie814

Nah just sneakers

thecrouch

No because mats aren’t like grass, just wear normal trainers. If it was a grass range I would.

triitrunk

No. I wear my flip flops. /s

[deleted]

TRUE Linkswear has a golf slide. No joke.

Hambone76

Spiked shoes on the course, same model spikeless for the range. Keeps things consistent feeling.

deefop

I always wear my golf shoes if I'm playing golf, with the one exception being the rare trip to top golf

Dad_Is_Mad

My son's swing coach requires that he wear his golf shoes. Almost every lesson is indoors on his simulator.

Direct-Maintenance29

You should practice with the shoes you play with bc even a few inches can change your low point

DocktorChef

Every shoe is a golf shoe if you wear shoes while golfing.

FireMaster2311

On pads? The ranges are grass. Yeah though.

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Mats/ pads. You know what I’m talking about

FireMaster2311

Yeah, I don't know any places around here that use them for ranges anymore. It just doesn't make sense for practice until courses are made of it. Guess it depends where you are. You want same condition as course including shoes.

Ok-Armadillo-9923

Yeah I wish it was like that but I’m from Cleveland and we’ve had rain the past 2 weeks, courses are sloppy. The pace I go to has grass area but still not open.

pistonsoffury

I have a nice pair of running shoes that I wear when I play golf, so yeah, I suppose I do.

Fragrant-Report-6411

Yes. Even when I’m indoors on a launch monitor.

rojorzr

Makes my back hurt, so no. I just wear athletic shoes. But I swing hard so your experience may vary.

Tha_watermelon

If they make your back hurt, why would you wear them on the course?

rojorzr

I still get friction and slight movement on the grass. With mats my shoes dig in hard so when I follow thru there’s more torque on my spine from my shoes not wanting to move.

Tha_watermelon

Makes sense. Now that you mention it, my back muscles get fatigued much quicker on mats than a grass range. Probably a similar problem

saintspike

No, I try to be very casual when I practice. I’m actually a bit upset that my club wants members to be fully decked out to use the range and putting areas. It’s almost summer here in Texas and I want to be comfortable while working on my game.

Aggravating-Map-1228

Believe it or not I go barefoot on the pad. I think my golf shoes feel weird while on the pad. I don’t like it.
