Man I was at the Tuesday practice round. Bryson went out twice in the day and I was pretty much the only one around him in the afternoon right around 5:30. Told him good luck this week and he turned fully, looked me in the eyes and said “I really appreciate that man.” Threw me for a loop. Not that I agree with him moving to LIV but he definitely seems like a nice guy.
Open Championship at St Andrews a couple of years back, they had an area specially designated for kids to get autographs at the practice putting green. Me and my wife were standing to the side watching the players practice greenside bunker shots (this is a Wednesday practice day mind you).
Can’t tell you how many players plainly ignored the kids who stood waiting, I was shocked, then Bryson came. One kid yelled “please Bryson can I you sign this” and gestured to a 18th open flag they sell in the merchandise shops on site.
I Was fully expecting the same indifference of the last 30 players (some really shocked me as they’re known as the “good guys”), then Bryson turned around, my blood ran cold as I was expecting a rebuke coming the little kids way, but Bryson said
“Just give me 30 mins little dude and I’ll come and sign all of your guys stuff, I’m just working on something really important right now, but I’m not ignoring you, the bunkers and chips out here are really tough and I need practice”
And you better believe he signed every damn thing every kid in that area had, was probably there for 30mins draining his sharpie of ink !
I became a Bryson fan there and then, the only two other players to stop for the young ones were Speith and Mcilroy.
Everything I’ve heard about his interaction with fans has always been super positive. Saw him at the PGA in Tulsa and don’t think I saw someone go out of their way more to sign stuff for kids throughout the practice rounds
> Threw me for a loop. Not that I agree with him moving to LIV but he definitely seems like a nice guy.
Honestly him moving to LIV made a ton of sense to me. He trains like a pro athlete, and that means he's going to get injured. On the PGA tour injuries mean you make zero dollars. Essentially every big name golfer with an injury history should move to LIV.
He was one of the few LIV guys that didn't bother me all that much. The dude was on tour for a few years beforehand, and fans treated him like shit. Hell, look at this thread and everything and you can see they still do despite most not having seen him much in over a year. When I went to the Fedex St Jude open before he left, all anyone could do was shout "Hey Brooksy!" at him like they were funny and creative.
So when the fans have already turned against you, and you're all about innovating the game, why would you not go to LIV? I really wish he hadn't because I do love his style of trying new things, and he's definitely a guy with an appreciation for the history of the game. But I did get it.
I bet on him because I like his YouTube channel and he didn't make any content for about a month before the Masters and I thought oh wait a minute he's building some hurting bombs.
I have trouble believing anyone who says they’d turn down that money in the same situation. It’s a lot easier to say that when you’ll never be in that sort of position. It’s easy to have principals for a situation that will never be tested.
He and Paige did some great videos together. Paige admitted she had completely misunderstood who he was, and now thought he was a great guy. She was very complimentary and appreciative.
Yeah the comparison to Reed is unfair, he’s a cheating asshat whilst Bryson seems like a good dude. Sure, he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I like him.
I don’t like Bryson at all but it’s completely unfair to compare him to someone like Reed, or even Brooks. Bryson seems like a genuinely nice guy, just incredibly unlikable while doing it.
It's extremely petty but I just can't stand watching him hit a golf ball. It looks so robotic and unnatural. It's obviously extremely effective but good lord it is uncomfortable to watch. It looks like he's in a full body cast.
The important thing to remember is how people can change when getting older, and our first impressions of them especially boys in and right out of college, are probably not what they're going to be even a few years later. Not a fan of him, but he's not nearly as all around negative as he was and was portrayed before.
Other than Patrick Reed. He never changed.
I saw him at the BMW a few years back when he went back and forth with Cantley.
His tee shot struck a fan like 10 feet from me, he signed the ball and took a handful of photos with the guy.
Never got his hate.
Same here. I mean I didn't have a strong opinion on him before but having watched him on YT he seems like a good guy and I'm now rooting for him. Same thing as Homa.
Agreed. Completely same for me. I think he gets so much hate. I’ve chatted with local golf affiliates who have met him in person, and they say he’s much more genuine and gives people time of day, unlike a lot of other pros. I think he deserves respect and just gets unnecessary hate.
Yeah, I used to hate him. Then I met the guy and realized it was brooks that was a little bitch.
Bryson is a really cool guy. Really smart when it comes to golf.
People see him and hear his swing thoughts and think he's a know it all asshole. In reality, he's cool as shit and an amazing putter.
Admittedly, half the hate for Bryson is due to broadcasters' desire to fill the airwaves with their voices and constantly repeating the same stupid shit to build a "narrative".
I don't give a shit about watching his YouTube channel though.
I essentially found him thru his Youtube which has pretty much prevented me from ever really disliking him. He was really the first name that wasn't Tiger and Mickelson that I learned when getting into the game (and tbh I only knew Phil because my Dad would point him out to me since I'm lefty).
I relate a lot to Bryson. People that didn’t know me very well growing up thought I was an arrogant asshole but I had a lot of friends who obviously liked me. Bryson is really a genuinely intellectually curious dude who’s confident but also kind of a dweeb. But he comes off as arrogant because he values being smart. He doesn’t think he’s better than everybody else.
I agree the LIV thing hurts a lot for a lot of people though and understandably so. He’s matured a lot in the last few years. Kind of like Rahm where they were hot heads (Rahm still kind of is) and they would throw tantrums on the course. People forget that these golfers are in the spotlight at very young ages so we see them grow up over the years
Tbh I know this is dumb but I feel like that dumb hat he used to wear turned a lot of people off lol
Bryson: You think I got these two boulder shoulders from sitting on my couch?
Naw, during lockdown, I was stacking plates and mixing shakes.
I was ripping drives and flexing quads.
They call me Julius, cause my shit.... is juiced.
I mean at this point trying to grow the game is enough for me to hate him. I would rather not have to set an alarm for midnight on Friday night to get a tee time.
I actualy realy like having him in the field at tournaments, he doesn't buy into the traditional strategy or methedolys and tends to be very honest to media, very refreshing as a viewer. Much prefer him to DJ or Brooks if I was gonna get to watch one of them every week.
I just finished first season of Full Swing and am now on episode 3 of season 2.
Totally agree, DJ and Koepka both seem like douchebags.
Would be interesting to get an episode on Bryson.
If you want, you can watch some of the stuff on his YouTube to get a feel for who he is and what his life is like. He has a lot of good content on there already.
I like watching Koepka, I think he has a really interesting game and a unique mental attitude, but he definitely comes off like a prick to me. I would not want to be friend with him in real life but Bryson seems super nice.
Honestly, I think most of his haters are simply jealous of him. He’s really good at golf, but doesn’t SEEM to care that much, he’s pretty built, he’s a pretty good looking guy (no homo), and he’s rich as hell.
I think its hilarious u kids talking about Brooks. u wouldnt say this stuff to him at LIV, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
It’s awesome, the break 50 with Sergio this week. The match play with Phil. The speed training with Rick Shiels, it’s great content and he seems like a really genuinely nice guy. Obviously he has bags of confidence and I wonder if that puts people off of him.
I genuinely think he just matured. He used to be a bit of an arrogant person.
I think his arrogance changed to confidence, and he started to help people a lot more and kinda ended up mellowing out a bit
It was a really good round, and he would be a two time major winner should he win
I think we should want more good golfers playing in the masters for life no?
bryson seems like the absolute antithesis of what the snooty members of Augusta would want in a champion
i agree with you that we should want more good golfers, and popular characters at the masters for life
Multiple things can be true.
1) Bryson is an extremely talented and fascinating golfer to watch play. The golf entertainment product is better when he’s playing well.
2) He’s a smart guy when it comes to the technical aspects of golf.
3) He wants to expand interest in the game of golf.
4) He puts his foot in his mouth a lot when speaking publicly and could use a large dose of humility.
He’s a fascinating character and the professional golf landscape is better off when he’s in it. But he’s also part of the reason why the professional golf landscape is fractured right now.
I don’t think he needs any humility.
Most of the time he seems like a humble guy, considering his ability.
I just think he’s awkward and says weird stuff without thinking
I’d love to see Bryson win so more people could see how much of a student of the game he is and get over the douchebag persona he was portrayed as having
That’s a fair point, and to be frank I think he was kind of douche-ey when he put his mass on and started bombing* (originally I typed bonging) it but he’s been open about how that wasn’t the best for him and seems like he’s grown up
I never understood the distaste for Bryson. Yeah, he’s made some laughable comments in the past and can nerd-out at times, but nothing “hate worthy.” The guy can hit the ball a mile, and win too. I’m a fan, and it seems like more fans are interested and vocal when he’s in contention.
He’s a super nice guy too. Volunteers his time, always signing autographs for kids, giving free lessons. You never hear him say mean things to anyone. When his game comes together, he’s the most electric player in the game. Has multiple tournament wins on the Liv tour and shot a 59. The hate is completely unjustified.
For me, he used to be painfully slow on the golf course but it was also probably just what was being shown on the broadcasts and likely a misrepresentation of what he's actually like.
Following him closely now and he doesn't seem any slower than anyone else.
He single handedly got myself and my nephew interested in professional golf with the over the pond Arnold Palmer win.
Breaks my heart I don’t get to see him in the pga every week.
In reference to the most prestigious golf course in the world, Bryson said that it plays a par 67 for him, essentially shit talking. Of course the Augusta people are not going to like him
I'm in the same boat. Tiger is a great golfer, probably the greatest to ever play the game. But his off-course behavior isn't great. Rory just comes across as an absolute douche 90% of the time, and Brooks is... Kind of douchey but definitely seems like a bit of a head case.
Thank you. The same people using "integrity" and "Tiger" in the same sentence always make me scratch my head. Don't get me wrong, Tiger is the GOAT and one of my favourites to watch still, but lets call a spade a spade.
I thought he is very much a likable and interesting person. Maybe it’s just some people who doesn’t like LIV guys or his very scientific/unorthodox/unique approach to golf. But I do really enjoy watching his YouTube contents. I think he is genuinely a nice dude who is smart and competitive and fun to hang out with.
Genuine question, other than the fact he can be bought (if that’s an issue for you) - what is the issue with the guy? Other than you don’t care for his personality or whatever, what is it this player has done to make folks loathe him?
Anytime a person is different and good at something people will always dislike them. Look at LeBron James, one of if not the greatest players of all time and just a great person off the court and he is one of the most hated players of all time. They both have a lot of fans as well but the haters are always the loudest. In golf Bryson has always just been different than the normal golfer, same thing happening with LIV. Lots of people don't like different or change.
The Bryon hate is just stupid at this point. Watch any of his YouTube videos he’s putting out all the time and you can get a great feel for his personality. He’s matured and seems like a way better dude.
I served him in my restaraunt. Only guy at the table who said thank you, sir, ma’am, sorry, etc. Had great manners and took pics with anyone no complaints. Guy is not the dbag he’s made out to be.
Boiled chicken and protein shakes for the champions dinner next year sounds good to me.
That was my next meme, damn it!
Soylent n grits
Don’t forget the white rice!
It would be brown over white.
Oh man the farts on the course later would be brutal.
Just wait for the Augusta kitchen staff to somehow make that shit look like a michelin star meal.
Bryson’s YouTube channel changed my opinion of him by a lot. Not nearly the dbag I thought he was.
Seems like he is just a huge dork. Harmless in the end. Now P Reed on the other hand...
Patrick Reed read this and stole your wallet
![gif](giphy|IhIsxGk9FqOSI7a0Nn)
SUED.
Then used it to buy a green porsche amd crash it
Just has a little bit of the ‘tism. Seems like a good guy
Touched by the tism
He got nicked
He got that rainman 'tism. He's a human calculator when it comes to distances and an android with the driver.
I’m a bit of a day walker myself
I'm not makin em at night Dad!
I'm making em at night.....
My wife is a special ed teacher and lovingly calls it my “touch-o-tism”
Not enough people realize he’s just your average dude from Clovis (Greater Fresno, CA)

Wholesome as fuck.
Mcilroy always seemed like such a genuine guy, cool to hear Bryson is also!
Nice
That's very cool, thanks for sharing
Everything I’ve heard about his interaction with fans has always been super positive. Saw him at the PGA in Tulsa and don’t think I saw someone go out of their way more to sign stuff for kids throughout the practice rounds

Just spent 10 mins saying this exact thing to my wife. Weirdly she didn’t really care. But yes I agree, I like Bryson now.
Half the things I say to my wife get the response "Why are you telling me this?"
Dare you to try saying that to her
I decline, lucky for me you didn't double doggy dare me.

Skipping the triple dare and going right for the throat, eh? Serious etiquette breach there
Well brother time to sack up!
All the sweeter when she busts out the same knowledge at a later date and the people shes telling are interested 😂
Haha, another response in that vein is "What important information am I going to replace with this useless information?"
I just preface my conversation with you probably don't care....
She doesnt preface any workplace drama with that, so I'm dropping all my youtube knowledge fueled swing thoughts without preface.
> Weirdly she didn’t really care. Wives. Whattya gonna do, right?
Bryson is much more likable than Patrick Reed
Well yeah but so is Hitler
I was able to turn the masters on at work for a few right before I left. First face I saw was reed. I immediately went to a different feed.
Yeah I agree. I watched one with Gm Golf and ended up watching a few videos after since I enjoyed it. Definitely changed my perception of him.
Very unique mind, but seems nice enough.
He’s definitely acoustic
But his drives are electric!
Brsn Dchmb
He’s very smart and articulate

He and Paige did some great videos together. Paige admitted she had completely misunderstood who he was, and now thought he was a great guy. She was very complimentary and appreciative.
Kind weird she felt the need to basically say she thought he was a douche lmao
Ya she did it texting from her phone without actually meeting or talking to the person. Strange how that happens.
And how do you look hitting a golf ball? No one fucking cares. Where does the ball go? That's what matters.
Same here. Actually enjoy clicking a video of his and listening to his thought processes on each shot.
The important thing to remember is how people can change when getting older, and our first impressions of them especially boys in and right out of college, are probably not what they're going to be even a few years later. Not a fan of him, but he's not nearly as all around negative as he was and was portrayed before. Other than Patrick Reed. He never changed.

Him and Chris Pratt did a golf video together and it's so fun. Like just two dudes out having a good time. I agree with you.
Agreed. Completely same for me. I think he gets so much hate. I’ve chatted with local golf affiliates who have met him in person, and they say he’s much more genuine and gives people time of day, unlike a lot of other pros. I think he deserves respect and just gets unnecessary hate.

The YouTube shows him exactly for what he is: massive awkward nerd
Admittedly, half the hate for Bryson is due to broadcasters' desire to fill the airwaves with their voices and constantly repeating the same stupid shit to build a "narrative". I don't give a shit about watching his YouTube channel though.
Same. I get why the old heads don’t like him bc of all the math and science, but I enjoy it.
I essentially found him thru his Youtube which has pretty much prevented me from ever really disliking him. He was really the first name that wasn't Tiger and Mickelson that I learned when getting into the game (and tbh I only knew Phil because my Dad would point him out to me since I'm lefty).
He's great.
Agreed. He can still say some things that make you roll your eyes but he is a good dude.
Best golf youtube out there!!!! Go Bryson!!!
I just find him annoying. Not a bad person but not one I want to hear speak
Same but now I think koepka is the huge d-bag, I'm going by his face alone on this one.
I think they are both dbags in different ways. But I do love how Bryson gets under Koepkas skin without a care in the world.
Same! Seems like a nice dude that really cares about the game.
You have to admit though, his 2-under-par 65 was really impressive today
He'd still be tied for 6th in that case - not too shabby for day 1.
I would love to see that. IMO Bryson is much more likeable than Reed ever was. Can’t picture Bryson in a green jacket though lol.
“Doug, I’m a 44 Regular. My left arm is just a little longer than my right”
I believe that belongs to Mr. Scheffler!
I’ll bet he’d use millimeters.
Bryson absolutely knows if his arms are a millimeter different in length
He's slimmed down a little now but peak Covid Bryson would need two jackets stitched together to get around those shoulders
Bryson: You think I got these two boulder shoulders from sitting on my couch? Naw, during lockdown, I was stacking plates and mixing shakes. I was ripping drives and flexing quads. They call me Julius, cause my shit.... is juiced.
I'd love to see Bryson beat Rory to a green jacket, just to watch the golf world burn...
Doesn't count anyway, cause The Gooch isn't there...
Patrick Reed sues other golfers for mean comments. Bryson wants to grow the game and is very giving of his time and energy. Not even close to same.
His youtube channel and padraig Harrington's are some of the best golf content out there
I thought we were trying to shrink the game now
Just enough I can get a tee time when I want.
I mean at this point trying to grow the game is enough for me to hate him. I would rather not have to set an alarm for midnight on Friday night to get a tee time.

God you just know he obviously didn’t say this why is this being upvoted 😂
Because Reddit is filled with lazy people who want to be mad at something.
Yea that definitely wasn’t the quote good job on twisting it up though.
Wait did he really say that?

He definitely did not say that

I mean the US don’t exactly have a clean conscience either on the world stage.
The alternative is to fester hate, but you seem to have plenty of that already
Yea when he did a few videos with Rick, I started to watch him a tad
DJ yes, but I don’t get why everyone thinks Koepka is a douche. He just seems to have a more serious demeanor.
Him giggling to that queef Jake Paul about his 9-figure contract with LIV didn’t help him not seem like an arrogant prick.
Idk man it seems reasonable to me. They straight up gave him a laughable amount of money to play golf.
To play less golf. Anyone who says they wouldn’t take 10X more money to do less work is a damn liar.
There’s plenty of golfers who did say no though so you’re theory doesn’t hold much water
I like watching Koepka, I think he has a really interesting game and a unique mental attitude, but he definitely comes off like a prick to me. I would not want to be friend with him in real life but Bryson seems super nice.
Punchable face
Honestly, I think most of his haters are simply jealous of him. He’s really good at golf, but doesn’t SEEM to care that much, he’s pretty built, he’s a pretty good looking guy (no homo), and he’s rich as hell.
I think its hilarious u kids talking about Brooks. u wouldnt say this stuff to him at LIV, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
Koepka’s wife is like a worse version of Brittany Mahomes.
Bryson’s YouTube channel did EXACTLY what he needed to. Very much like him now.
Him going to liv (being away from the media) and putting all of his nerd shit on YouTube you as perfect for him.
It’s awesome, the break 50 with Sergio this week. The match play with Phil. The speed training with Rick Shiels, it’s great content and he seems like a really genuinely nice guy. Obviously he has bags of confidence and I wonder if that puts people off of him.

I'm confused why Patrick Reed is being brought up here? I can not like bryson and still think Reed is a piece of garbage that's much worse.

Of course the Augusta people are not going to like him
There's been 1 wire to wire winner since 1977. If the lead holds today, they know they're safe
He could lose the lead and then regain it
If his miscalculates relitive dew point humidity along with the coriolis effect he might blow it.
Rip him all you want, he’s clearly doing something right
Historically mentally tough player Bryson Dechambeau going on a bad run and regaining form mid tournament?
He better keep his head on a swivel, never know when the ropes will try and blind him
Well, if you count ties, there have been more. Most recent DJ in 2020.

So, once since 1977
He's the one, boss
Why do people hate Bryson? Seems like a super nice guy.
i dont get how people can dislike Bryson so much but then cape for Tiger, Brooks and Rory. Those guys seem more stuck up and douche like to me.
It's hard to see the faults of your heroes. Love tiger and always will but guy is not a good person.
Are they more afraid of that or of him bringing Rick Shiels and doing “these clubs are banned” videos on Yellow Jasmine
Hate him all you want for LIV but Bryson is one of the best. Will definitely get a jacket at some point.
He has changed a lot from a few years ago. Go listen to his post round interview.
100% seems like a solid guy.
They have to live with the degenerate gambler , mickelson. Bryson would be fine.
I'm pretty new to golf. Do we not like Bryson? Should I get my pitchfork?
Older gen might dislike him but younger folk tend to like him.
Bryson winning the masters would be fucking hilarious and I'm here for it
It is rare anybody goes wire to wire and it is only the first day
I served him in my restaraunt. Only guy at the table who said thank you, sir, ma’am, sorry, etc. Had great manners and took pics with anyone no complaints. Guy is not the dbag he’s made out to be.
Hope he wins. Seems genuine. Zach Johnson on the other hand should be demoted
I like Bryson now. He seems like a good guy who loves golf. Nothing wrong with that.
Sheffler is 1 back and did it in the higher winds..... I'll put my money on him vs Bryson over the next 3 days.
Plus Max is 3 back with 5 holes to play in round 1. I’d love to see him pull it out
Welcome to Thursday
Tiger played well today too.

I don't care what anyone says, I really like Bryson!
Scotty like “hold my beer”
I’d love to see Bryson win
It’s only day one relax
You must not follow golf. Him winning wouldn't be a bad thing.
IN B4 HE SHOOTS 71, 83, 74.
Press x to doubt
