Lmao I always feel judged by those types when I get paired with them. Super nice, compliment your slice that barely stayed within eyesight and went 190 yards. Pipes it down the middle 250 yards with the easiest swing you've ever seen.
Few years back I played with a guy that is exactly like this. Early season and we were both playing as singles, so we played together. Nicest guy on the planet. Always smiling and being complimentary. Carried no woods. Drove with a 1 iron and split fairways all day long at 280. We had lunch afterwards and I learn that he played in MLB for 9 years. Nobody famous but had a nice little journeyman career. We've become great friends and play together all the time now. Still can't hit a driver...
I played with a guy who could rip his old (not quite this old) 4 iron like 275 yards. He couldn't hit any of the other clubs in his bag for shit. But that 4 iron was something to see. That and his jean shorts.
Lee Trevino got hit by lightning a couple of times. A reporter unwisely asked him if he had any advice for golfers in a lightning situation. Lee said, "You hold your one iron straight up in the air and walk briskly to the clubhouse." The reporter bit and said, "Wouldn't that act as a lightning rod?" Lee told him: "Even the Lord God Almighty can't hit a one iron."
A course near me had this storage container with a bunch of old clubs in it. I grabbed a Wilson Staff 1 Iron and a 0 (yes, zero) iron I found in there.
The 1 iron was kind of hard to hit but if you tee’d it up and hit it slightly high in the face it would go for miles. The 0 iron though was brutally hard to hit. I don’t think I have it anymore but it would be cool to see how I do compared to when I was in high school
Anytime I see someone in cargo shorts it’s accompanied by a t shirt and a miller lite in each hand. I can’t imagine they care.
Although I personally also don’t give a fuck what anyone wears to anything and hardly know any guys who do. This sub has more dudes talking about fashion then anywhere else I seen 🤷
I pointed this out the last time he wore baggy pants - keyboard warriors chirping him on the internet to get paid to wear clothing who themselves wear khaki/cargo shorts that are too long, a plain black polo and titleist hat 👍.
Be glad that J. Lindeberg didn't put Hovland in the same outfit they put Nelly in.
https://preview.redd.it/tkwgpcvwl2uc1.jpeg?width=503&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5da55b85151dc2ccf78deecbcbea571831343558
J. Lindberg is so confusing to me, do they actually sell anything stateside?
Their target demographic in Europe is literally the antithesis of wealthy American golfers...
I have a J Lindberg golf bag I bought at a Korean market in Lewisville TX. By the time it reached me it had probably been imported and exported from three countries
Trevino’s actually flows better because the big pants are paired with a big shirt with wide, long sleeves. Day had a pretty normal modern fitting shirt paired with the weird puckered wind pants (not true pleats) with belt loops.
He looked like a hockey player in the locker room who took off the sweater and shoulder pads
Look, I don’t care for Malbon much at all. Some of their windbreaker collabs with Nike look nice, but overall their stuff is tacky and overpriced. But I don’t get this take. Every other golfer has logos plastered all over their polos or hats, so what’s the difference really. You can say the same thing about them. Walking billboards
Part of me wants to commend Malbon/day for trying something different, but damn if it isn’t all just hideous and impractical. Those jncos beating in the wind yesterday would drive me crazy.
I feel pretty confident that if Day was at all negatively affected by the clothes he was wearing he’d have opted to wear something else. Don’t their sponsors give them a bunch of different options? There’s no way he’d have played the Masters in uncomfortable clothes.
I can't wait to see how much the collaboration with Jimmy Choo is going to cost.
https://preview.redd.it/ezo7h99m92uc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5afeba5e576990fa1960d105320efcb103e3b56f
It's 1000 times more interesting than every player wearing the same pants and polo combo. It at least adds some personality, whether or not people like the look of it. I love watching old 90s golf because of some of the insane outfit combinations.
It's the same way marketing/logos/branding is so dull now; everyone is afraid of doing something that doesn't have mass appeal so they all end up with painful boring branding that looks like every other brand that decided to not use vowels in their name.
True but if you saw some 45 year old fat golfer wearing this you'd laugh, I guarantee it. This whole street wear/golf collaboration isn't going to fit most golfers style.
I think it easily could. Sure the sweater vest might be on the extreme end but most of what Malbon makes is just a modern day evolution of golf apparel.
“Modern day evolution” to me looks my grandpa passed away and I’m too poor to buy my own clothes. If that’s the look they’re going for, then they crushed it
> This whole street wear/golf collaboration isn't going to fit most golfers style.
That's because most ~~golfers~~ people have no style. They wear the polos and pants their wife gets them from Costco for their birthday and that's it.
I’m 33 and those pants yesterday just seemed annoying and goofy given the wind. No one is saying wear skin tight stuff but parachute probably isn’t the way to go for golf lol.
The 90’s fashion is back in style. Baggy pants, puffed tongue skate shoes, baggy shirts.
They’re not trying to sell to the 35 year olds. They’re selling to the 16-28 crowd. And if you go to their site, it’s selling at a rapid pace.
I don’t think people realize a web editor can simply write “sold out” next to something to make it appear as so. We have no insight into their inventory
I am still in the obnoxious bad birdie shirt era. I wear super loud shirts on the course. Played in a work tourney this week in Orlando and wore hot pink palm trees. Being 33 doesn’t mean we don’t buy the “in” stuff. But I’ve literally never seen anyone wear pants like that on a course. Ever.
Baggy clothes are back in but not on the golf course (yet) at least. Younger players in their 20s are still wearing normal fitting pants.
I don’t think the baggy clothing style will ever hit the sports world again. They’re just impractical, basketball players are wearing shorter shorts for example. They’re not reverting to fab 5 style.
But really 90s fashion is already going out, it’s already moved to early 2000s. It’s kind of funny that malbon is pushing the 90s stuff so much while actual fashion companies are already onto the next decade
I have multiple pieces of clothing from Malbon, but think Jason Day looks ridiculous with those pants.
I understand the kids are trying to emulate the 90s now, but seeing a guy in his mid 30s go for it just doesn’t work.
It’s not for me but I can’t help but think this stuff would look way better on the street, untucked.
These loose/baggy fits tucked in look atrocious to me, especially on a guy with Day’s build.
It's called fashion! My favorite golf polo is a Marlboro branded size M that fits like a XXL that I got from a thrift store that I waited overnight in line to get into.
The irony of this comment is that Jason Day himself has been a longtime Ohio resident. And that’s my personal problem with the outfits - Jason Day can’t pull them off. Put Min Woo Lee in these fits and it would work, but Jason Day isn’t the guy for it.
I would absolutely wear his Malbon / Championship vest/shirt. Not on a golf course tho. Maybe for a night in town clubbing or other. It looks so fucking fly.
What? Plenty of the nike guys wear all colors of the spectrum pants and shirts all the time.
The Malbon shit sucks, just admit it. It's like someone took the style of the great gatsby, and added an extra chromosome.
Yea I wish we had more brands challenging golf clothes but malbon is some of the worst. Not because I’m some old head who loves cargo shorts, because their shit is basic as fuck and isn’t interesting at all.
Exactly how I feel.
I have pants in every color of the fuckin rainbow lmao I never wear khaki anything on the course.. but I still think the malbon stuff is trash, cause it is. lmao
I think in time Tigers brand accomplishes what Malbon is trying to. The first line of SDR seemed kinda lame, but when you compare it to Malbon, it's def better lmao and I expect SDR to get better with time. idk wtf malbon is doing tho they keep pumping out trash
Can I dislike malbon because it’s TOO basic? Their shit is unoriginal and really hasn’t done anything interesting or unique. Taking exact fits from the 90’s and putting your name on it isn’t interesting. Zero work on materials or anything else. I honestly find their stuff lazy.
I’m all about challenging golf ware standards but malbon is just the supreme of golf.
As a woman I like their women's golf stuff a lot. I used to work in fashion as a model and later in fashion sales on the designer side. I prefer a more minimal but modern style that is somewhat trendy with Gen Z/younger millennials. I'm all about good material, fit, interesting texture.
This whole look is totally up my alley:
https://preview.redd.it/yzzucdo1f4uc1.png?width=742&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68cb19b7996d27efb9214745ea5462cdbb20fda5
Men's fashion still has a bit to go towards more modern directions and I have to say I like Hov's style, Adam Scott, and now Tigers new brand is lovely.
The golf world at large has some of the worst fashion sense I've ever seen in my life. A lot of grown men looking like giant toddlers. Day's pants just needed to be a bit more tailored and it would've been great yesterday, IMO.
i honestly thought they were rain pants and he just said "fuck it" and kept them on in case there was more weather later in the day.
let my bro wear his baggy pants. better than the nut-huggers that all these folks are wearing these days.
It’s even weirder to see people praising Malbon as some fashion icon. Like look at Days fit today once he took the sweater off…. Slightly baggier polo and slacks… GOLF FASHION HAS ASCENDED!
Cmon get real their shit is boring and does nothing to challenge golf clothing. I liked the sweater honestly, but the vast majority of their shit is incredibly uninspired.
I did actually like the fit with the sweater as well, although the actual design was meh for me but only because I find putting your own logo real big on the front just kind of lazy.
Nah, his fit ain’t it chief. Malbon has some cool stuff but those pants, my childhood called and want its JNCO jeans back.
Today’s vest is sweet though. End of the day it doesn’t matter, Malbon is getting the publicity they want.
Spot on. I’ve never seen a bunch of dudes with absolutely no fashion sense get so upset about fashion before lmao.
The Travis Matthew gang was shooooook.
lol the pants just look like the normal pleated Dockers we used to wear back in the day. I didn't even notice anything off about them. The sweater was pretty out there though.
What the people who think it looks cool don’t understand is that we (the olds) lived through this era. I’m not even that old (35) but I grew up with baggy clothes, pleated golf pants, and they always looked terrible. They don’t fit well. They exaggerate features. And despite having more room, weren’t that comfortable.
I thought Sergio Garcia's was more interesting - Lemon and Lime!
Dude looked like he played for the Oregon Football team
![gif](giphy|TKGbL7gTKZQFkje7B3|downsized)
Dude was dressed like the logo
This was brought to you by Sprite™
Sprite
Anyone hitting a 30 year old 1 iron as seen in this pic can talk all the trash they want
Shakes your hand, calls you "buddy", 240 stinger right down the fairway in his dad's loafers.
Compliments you all day, gives no "advice"
Finds your ball in the woods for you
Brought a 6 pack of cold beers
Pays a month of your child support
Introduces you to his daughter, the beer cart girl, because "you look like a fine young man"
Lmao I always feel judged by those types when I get paired with them.
Ah the one hit wonder. Always incredible when they pull off Tour distances with that one club, then shoot a 124 for the round
I was wondering wtf he was doing with a 4 iron on the tee of the par 5 first. It made more sense as the day went on
Daisy Dukes
Lee Trevino got hit by lightning a couple of times. A reporter unwisely asked him if he had any advice for golfers in a lightning situation. That looks like the old Dunlop set I started out with from a garage sale 20yrs ago.
1 iron on the courses I play is slang for devil’s lettuce
A course near me had this storage container with a bunch of old clubs in it. I grabbed a Wilson Staff 1 Iron and a 0 (yes, zero) iron I found in there. The 1 iron was kind of hard to hit but if you tee’d it up and hit it slightly high in the face it would go for miles. The 0 iron though was brutally hard to hit. Only fatter, balder, and wearing cargo shorts.
Alright, didn’t deserve *this* much shade in the morning…
They aren't cargo shorts. They are cargo pants, but I just unzipped the bottom part once the rain let up
You must be drowning in pussy
Unzipped once the rain let up only to get drenched anyway.
I enjoy reading books.
It's crazy that there's no middle ground between Malbon's hideous gear and Walmart cargo shorts. Seems like a real opportunity there.
I’ve got more complaints on the GFore hats crew than Walmart cargo shorts.
Those ain’t the people who care about fashion lol
Don't play much with randos do ya? These dudes don't care about fashion, but they care about calling out anyone that looks "different".
They can’t leave the herd frat mentality behind.
They definitely are. They’ll see a pair of joggers and have an aneurysm
Ok first of all I drink much better beer than that. I'm in cargo shorts and a t shirt cause I spent 40 bucks on the bomber.
As a soon to be 31 year old I used to hate on joggers. After about 3 years of wearing them, I’m sorry. They’re the most comfortable pants i own.
I had a buddy who always hated on my joggers. I bought him a pair and now that’s all he wears.
Don’t even get them started on the hoodies…
I pointed this out the last time he wore baggy pants - keyboard warriors chirping him on the internet to get paid to wear clothing who themselves wear khaki/cargo shorts that are too long, a plain black polo and titleist hat 👍.
The signs of a true hacker. Shorts too long, shafts too stiff, drives it "280"
As a guy who’s been losing hair since he was 18, you absolutely cannot allow yourself to be a bald fat guy with bad fashion.
Boomers gonna boom.
The black socks with brown shoes really sells it.
Sergio Garcia's outfit was infinitely worse yesterday.
Be glad that J. Lindeberg didn't put Hovland in the same outfit they put Nelly in. https://preview.redd.it/tkwgpcvwl2uc1.jpeg?width=503&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5da55b85151dc2ccf78deecbcbea571831343558

I will never take fashion (or financial) advice from r/golf. That being said the sweater is a bit much for me.
He was a walking billboard, but given the gold he’s been playing he could use the extra income!
Look, I don’t care for Malbon much at all. Some of their windbreaker collabs with Nike look nice, but overall their stuff is tacky and overpriced. But I don’t get this take. I don’t mind Malbon at all and understand what they are going for. But man what happened yesterday was so funny. 100% a wardrobe malfunction.
I feel pretty confident that if Day was at all negatively affected by the clothes he was wearing he’d have opted to wear something else. Don’t their sponsors give them a bunch of different options? There’s no way he’d have played the Masters in uncomfortable clothes.
He took much longer over putts than anyone else when it started gusting. It was definitely not optimal.
The pants are notably less puffy today, so you could be on to something
Pants telling you the wind direction and strength is aid.
Apparently Day has made fun of the Tiger baggy pants era before too

I dig all the Malbon drip
Golfers are so queeny about golf attire.
Hey. You look great you play great!
Factually incorrect.
Big “it’s called fashion sweetie 💅” energy
Call it what it is. It’s a shock marketing piece to drive publicity
Just note I will never take fashion advice (or any advice, really) if you wear the two-tone brown and white brogue golf shoes.
Speaking from the minority here but I have loved Jason Day’s outfits
Proves how old this sub is
True but if you saw some 45 year old fat golfer wearing this you'd laugh, I guarantee it. This whole street wear/golf collaboration isn't going to fit most golfers style.
Makes no sense. I think it fits way more every day golfers style
I think it easily could. Sure the sweater vest might be on the extreme end but most of what Malbon makes is just a modern day evolution of golf apparel.
“Modern day evolution” to me looks my grandpa passed away and I’m too poor to buy my own clothes. If that’s the look they’re going for, then they crushed it
Lol fair opinion, but you also look like the guy in OPs pic https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/s/4ab0cBfZAY

goddamn son you didn't have to do him like that

Just like Calico Cut Jeans! Selling like hotcakes! https://getcalicocutpants.com/
I don’t think people realize a web editor can simply write “sold out” next to something to make it appear as so. We have no insight into their inventory
Ah yes, all those web editors who mark items in stock as "sold out" in order to prevent new sales. Genius business practice!
He went to their site, duh.
Just got a pair. Will be perfect to cover my motorcycle in the winter

Artificial scarcity is still wreaking havoc on our youth’s fashion choices I see
Hey 35 year olds like to look cool too hahaha. I honestly bet the majority of Malbon's customer base is above 30, especially with their prices
Ever.

Right! I wear normal pants and a lot of bad birdie shirts haha.

I’ll never get how grown ass men get so upset about what other people wear.
Men arguing over golf fashion. Shrink the game.
It's the strongest part of my game
Where’s the visor with the fake hair?
Noooooo you should only want to see the same Nike polo’s only

LOL I never actually analyzed it that deep but you are 100% right. I would also throw in Keagan and his Jordans.
100%! Keegan is the perfect comp.
Agree actually
How about something that looks like the last jersey in rec center box? That's peak fashion there
Honest question OP would you wear his outfit today, when you play?
I would, but I wouldn’t be able to afford it
I would absolutely wear his Malbon / Championship vest/shirt. Not on a golf course tho. Maybe for a night in town clubbing or other. It looks so fucking fly.
why not on a course? who cares
I understand that seeing a Value City $4 misprint Jersey for the first time is a shock for someone from Ontario.
Shut up, Canada
Sorry, is Ontario supposed to be cool or something? Genuinely perplexed at the air of smug superiority.
What? Plenty of the nike guys wear all colors of the spectrum pants and shirts all the time. The Malbon shit sucks, just admit it. It's like someone took the style of the great gatsby, and added an extra chromosome.

Ohio, the Carharrt capital of the Midwest. Source: from and live in Ohio
You mean Michigan? Since it's from Michigan
Nope, I play golf in Ohio and I see ALOT of Carhart clothing on the golf courses around here!
Post one of your outfits, OP
This model’s name? Daddio
The golf world at large has some of the worst fashion sense I've ever seen in my life. A lot of grown men looking like giant toddlers. Day's pants just needed to be a bit more tailored and it would've been great yesterday, IMO.

He looks like a camp counselor who in 25 years will have a lot of explaining to do.
idgaf that fit is drippin
His outfits are hilarious but I also won’t pretend to understand anything about any kind of fashion . Not for me is all I’ll say lol
Add 100 lbs and you’re in the right ballpark for sure

Oh dear
Including the cut… Which most of ‘em are probably proudly rockin’!
LOL….i love you guys.
I don't understand, why are you showing me a picture of Jason Day's outfit for tomorrow?
As a blue collar golfer all I can say is I want his DeWalt bag. And I'm a Milwaukee guy.
This man has stellar drip
I think history will look back fondly on Day’s fits this year
It looks like a pack of cigs. Sorry, it's ugly.
Don't hate on my Kirkland polo bro! lmao
Bro!!! Got my stomach hurting I’m laughing so hard. And even commented. At first I thought you were Daniel Tosh
lol the pants just look like the normal pleated Dockers we used to wear back in the day. I didn't even notice anything off about them. The sweater was pretty out there though.

Facts
What the people who think it looks cool don’t understand is that we (the olds) lived through this era. I’m not even that old (35) but I grew up with baggy clothes, pleated golf pants, and they always looked terrible. They don’t fit well. They exaggerate features. And despite having more room, weren’t that comfortable.
