I’m about six foot and I play with 1” over standard. Sometimes I choke down on my club. However, I’m not that great at golfing. 25 handicap at best. If I were you, I’d get a fitting before purchasing clubs. You’re going to need a fitting for what flex suits your swing in addition to length. A new set of clubs will last you a good few seasons if you’re a beginner. You will be happy you went for a fitting rather than taking a chance on just buying what you “ think “ you need or what some rando suggested.
You go get fitting as far as learning what is best for you at the simulator for a $30-$60 fee without buying anything. My local golf shop offers it. If you end up buying they wave the fee.
I'd definitely recommend a fitting at 6'4". Everyone's proportions are different, but I'd be really surprised if you didn't end up on extended shafts. I'm 6'2"and have inch long shafts and I've heard other people of the same height say they play standard length. I've played with standard before and struggling to stay down and not thin it sucks.
Everyone is different. You need to try different lengths and see how it feels.
If you're a beginner your swing is going to change allot in the next few years. Get comfortable tinkering with your equipment (and swing).
As a beginner you could get a fitting and have a really good (or really bad) day and buy your clubs based off that. Only to find out they weren't quite right.
One thought is to buy the same club (7i) in two different lengths and see how it feels at the range. Buy the club used. You don't care about the condition.
This is the correct answer ^. Height has a little to do with it, but the wrist to floor is by far the most important measurement. For example, Kevin durant may be 7 feet tall, but with a wingspan the length of the equator, he might actually need shorter clubs than standard.
Yes and no. What dictates club length is how far your wrists are off the ground. I am 6ft tall and most people my height use standard +1" length clubs while I use standard clubs due how long my arms are.
You definitely need clubs at least 1/2" longer than standard, if not 3/4" - 1" longer. If you feel that you were bending over more than you think you'd need to, you're answering your own question. A good golf posture should not feel uncomfortable - that's why clubs come in different lengths.
I'm 5'7" and my clubs are 1/2" longer than standard. I don't bend that much so my longer clubs let me swing in a comfortable posture.

Appreciate it, will take a look !

Sounds like a plan, thanks. Was generally avoiding the fitting due to costs etc but I'm thinking it may be worth it at this stage.

Wrist to floor measurement is more important than overall height.

I’m 5’11” but have little T-Rex arms so my clubs are extra .5”. I would suggest measuring your wrist to floor and then looking up what that calls for
Interesting, my knuckles drag off the ground so perhaps a longer club isn't the answer for me. Will for sure have a look at this.

Yes and no. Height impacts wrist to floor measurement which in turn impacts your ideal club length. So yes, by way of arms.

Get some graphite shafted irons, they're typically 1/2" over stock if you don't want to do a fitting.

Tony Finau is 6'-4" and plays standard length.
For every 6'4" pro golfer playing standard length clubs you'll find ten who are playing longer than standard clubs.
