To be fair, putting the most important building in the center of a large city is just good city planning

I think it is more likely that everything else is just built around it. My expectation is that the inner wall was not built as a secondary defense, but rather was the original castle wall. The outer wall was built later as the structures outside of the original wall expanded and needed defending. It would be optimal to build a so you like this from the beginning, in terms of a defensive standpoint, but I think it is simply a side effect of city growth

........Let me guess. Someone woke up the wall titans or Megumin learned a nuke explosion spell and she used it in the middle of town.

Ani_HArsh

Explosion and Megumin go hand in hand lol ![gif](giphy|xAzW9Oi28p1VS|downsized)

handholding before marriage is haram. at least ask the nuke on a date first!

It used to look a lot better, you can blame Islamic extremists for why it is so destroyed now. The government was excavating the site and had mostly uncovered it all when ISIS took over the site and proceeded to destroy it all. The same thing has been happening all across the Middle East for the last few decades under various groups. Just recently an artifact site in Gaza Strip was destroyed by Hamas. And ISIS almost reached the pyramid, which they vowed to destroy.

So you're saying all Isekai's are actually just in Syria?

John_Icarus

Getting isekaid to modern Syria would be like playing on hard mode. Even Arifureta sounds safe in comparison.

eddmario

Don't you mean *Made In Abyss*?

Izaniel

And Baghdad too iirc

XxSilverwolf

There are tons of European cities and towns that look more like the top image. Nördlingen, Dubrovnik, and Carcassonne are some examples. Nördlingen is almost identical to the top image in fact.

SecretEmpire_WasGood

Nördlingen was probably the mold from which all isekai took its inspiration. Eerily similar.

BosuW

Still more unique than the average Isekai town

chiku00

Hey, that square in the middle in the bottom picture is the perfect place to install an Intel CPU in.

Weebs-Chan

Wait till you learn how every old city in Europe was build

Anonymouchee

Does anyone have some context I'm clearly lacking? pls n thanks

kroxti

Most isekai are usually based on a very cookie cutter designed town. It’s going to be a circle with a river (usually with a bend) going through the middle of it.

Anonymouchee

oh so this wasn't referencing anything specific got it. knew that much but the bottom image didn't seem generic enough for me to think it was just that

All Town-scape "planning" on plains before gunpowder: they didn't fix what wasn't broken...(yet) Memers on fantasy towns: they are stupid and lazy, copying each other mindlessly!

227thDan

doesnt look similar

wordswillneverhurtme

Isekai town = stone walls in layers, layers have different purpose, like economic, and usually divide classes of people. Totally realistic to the inspiration of medieval towns except for everything.

ottoskerzeny

They probably added new walls after city expanded
