I got the WM2 6800u/32 October 2022. It was a trooper. Around August 2023 I traded up to 7840u/64. Modern sleep, and sporadic crashes. Eventually I got fed up, so a couple of weeks ago I went back to 6800u and I'm back in love. I'm 90% productivity with the WM2, so stability is paramount. 6800u > 7840u, maybe 20-30% improvement, especially in games. Some games are borderline slideshows on 6800u at native 2560x1600 but quite playable on 7840u. 7840u > 8840u, negligible. A couple of frames at best. However, some claim improved general stability with 8840u. *However*. THe 6800u was the last to fully support S3 sleep, meaning that Modern Sleep is purely optional on this processor. 7xxx and above you *have* to use Modern Sleep and deal with its numerous issues. Also, the 6800u Win Max 2 has a full speed MicroSD slot at 160mbps while newer units go up to 90-ish. On the 6800u, both SD card slots can be used simultaneously, while newer units disconnect the other when a new card is inserted. Note that this functionality on 6800u was a roll of the dice - some people had issues with stability using both drives.

I'm someone who just got a win max 2 7840u. I had a 6800u win 4 since launch. I personally see a big difference. Plays assassin's Creed origins at an amazing graphic setting easy.

I have the 6800U version and I use it for almost any computing work I need instead of my macbook or Razer Blade 15. I didn't experience any driver issues too.

If you do PS3 Emulation the 7840U is a major leap in performance

poulan9

igpu performance is about 30% better. Now you decide if it's worth it to you.

I heard that there are Oculink problems on the 7840u?

pharredd88

mine doesn't have any issues with the native oculink port

CppHater

I wouldn't know, I have the 8840u. I heard that the early batches of the 7840u had issues with the native Oculink port

Seems a bit pricey. I just passed on one for the equivalent of 440USD and that had the LTE adapter and Oculink adapter already.
