The buttons on the GMW models protrude more, and are much easier to press. I also struggle with the above model, as well as 5610's, but have no issues with my GMW's.

Captain_Nomad_Jr

GMW buttons are bigger too

sa_style

Yes! I was just about to edit lol. Pity about the weight. I do love em though.

Yourgrandmasskillet

I have the gmw and 5610 and the buttons are much better on gmw. Im arthritic so it’s an issue for me and am still comfortable using the gmw buttons. Use the timier multiple times a day for brewing coffee.

KenDevis_Marva

The only square in which I can press the buttons without using nail are the GMW-B5000 series: larger buttons, easy to press

CentaurSniper

And you get used to the big buttons to the point that the little buttons look weird

KenDevis_Marva

Yeah

Bluecolt

I own that same GW5000U and also the very similar GW-M5610U (same module in both watches, but one has a steel case and the other resin). The buttons on the GW5000U are indeed noticeably harder to press than the GW-M5610U buttons. Even though the GW5000U is fancier and more expensive with its full steel case and screwdown back, I actually prefer the cheaper 5610 version primarily because the buttons are easier to press. Get a GW-M5610U and see what you think, it literally has the exact same module and functions as your watch, and it's lighter too.

Bomsek

Thanks l, I'll have a look.

Bluecolt

Another thing, the GW5000U has a softer resin strap than the less expensive GW-M5610U, but I just bought an extra GW5000U strap and put it on my GW-M5610U for the best of both worlds. They're interchangeable. I also bought a G-Shock combi braclet, and now my GW-M5610U on combi is the GOAT of my collection and gets the most wear by a large margin.  GW5000U gets a lot of love with G-Shock fans, but I legit prefer the less expensive GW-M5610U.

doctorstitch16

Do you mind sharing where you got the extra GW-5000U strap and the combi strap?

-2SAD-

All square G-Shocks with steel cases(cases, not necessarily bezels) have extra gaskets on the buttons so they are a little bit stiffer than resin case models. But the difference is not that HUGE.

Wooshio

All the classic squares have shitty buttons. Lots of other G-Shocks though with nice, big buttons. Just get another watch for training / running only (if that's why you use the timer a lot) IMO. The new GDB500 is also square shaped, thin and has very good buttons.

Frosty-Fold4697

How can it be fantastic and literally unusable ?

Roubaix62454

I agree with OP on this one. The feature set is great, easy and quick access to said features is anything but quick and easy. The ridiculously recessed adjust button? Why? I’ll never buy that it’s to prevent accidentally pressing it. Glad I only paid $13 for my 5600. Like the durability, size and weight. If I actually want to time something, set an alarm? Nope. I’ll be wearing my GD350 or even my old Waveceptor. I get that squares will never have buttons this big, but easier button access has to be possible. As much as I’d like a 5610U or 5000U, I’m having a hard time buying one knowing this.

E28forever

The adjust button is not recessed on this one.

Roubaix62454

I guess it’s all relative. I’ve not had either in my hands, so I can’t get a feel for how recessed it actually is. Until then, I’m ok on holding off purchasing either.

Bomsek

General look and functions are perfect for me, but it's really hard to just set a quick timer. I always have to press with my nails.

Frosty-Fold4697

Pressing with the fingernail is the only way unless you have tiny pointed fingers

He can always send it to me if he can’t cope

Bomsek

Sorry, but this is my first and definitely not my last. It won't leave me ever.

kixx05

Hard to press? Unusable? HAH! Try closing the GPU hatch on a boeing 737 max, while having 168cm height. The top lock button literally breaks my finger in half, as i can barely reach it, and it's that HARD to push. I have to climb on a pair of chocks to do that, and even then it still hurts like a mother\*\*\*\*\*! I have to deal with that a few times a day, almost every day. So what is a watch button? LOL! I can press watch buttons so hard they pop out on the other side ... All my G-Shocks tremble each morning when i decide which one to pick up and use for the day. skydiveguy

We get it... you're a pilot....

kixx05

No... Besides, the watch is not new, has seen some action. It is obvious for a g-shock guy, that has a few and uses/abuses them. So maybe the buttons are dirty, maybe the watch had a few swims in salty water. I think it needs a proper clean, and some silicone grease on the gaskets and inside the buttons. Some g-shocks can be in mint condition, but have a few years of wear. This one ain't new ... And IF the watch is new and you can't press the buttons, my man you have issues. I mean, really, nothing against you, but hit the gym. At least get a set of rubber donuts and train your fingers. I don't want to go to "can you even lift a 6 pack of water bottles?". I know it's mean ... but come on people. Are we that sensible? 2100's and 5000/5600 all have small buttons, and they aren't hard to press. Just small ... i have a few of them. Heck, i'm even wearing a ga-2100 right now that has seen it's fair of shit, and buttons are ok.

Dickhole_Dynamics

I've got one of these... What's wrong with your fingers?

Bomsek

I need to press the buttons with my nails. As soon as I use my fingers I can't tell if a button is presse d or not and it needs a lot of force to press them.

sheesh_doink

I'm with you. No G-Shock buttons I've used have been hard to press, and I've never had to resort to usingy fingernails.

Outrageous-Ad-4194

I'm with this guy. Mine are very easy to push...

Bomsek

Should have mentioned it's a GW-5000u.

This is way overhyped. It now has an ugly white single LED light. The light doesn't dim. The GW-B5600 and GMW B5000 have a much nicer dual led light that does dim. Both have much larger buttons than the GW-5000. The GMW-B5000 also had an STN display which is way more legible. I prefer the dw-5600 because of the font, no nonsense and better reading angles for the display. Also easier to find with an EL backlit display. What I think would be the ultimate square: looks of the GW-5000, bigger buttons, STN display with dimming dual led light. It can't lose its battery level indicator in the screen though. Titanium case instead of steel and a sapphire crystal. I'd happily pay 400-500 for it. Maybe release it in some cool colours and a Collab here and there as well. It's a shame that Casio doesn't have more colour options for the GW-5000 case.

E28forever

The GW-B5600 does not have larger buttons.

ToughDesigner7072

Thank you for stating this. Folks come to this group saying the GW5000 is the best. ‘Excuse you - please state your opinion politely and leave room for others’. There’s plenty of folks who don’t care at all about a square and go straight to that DW6900s. As this is a fan forum full of subjective opinions, if anyone has the urge to say “xyz is the best”, they need to remember to add “in my opinion”. Also it’s a matter of taste that some folks prefer the plain grey black color. Plenty of others prefer the GW5610. Plenty love the classic DW5600. I just can’t understand the need some people have to force their personal opinion and taste on everyone else. We don’t have to lay our personal worth or identity on the choice of our G-Shock.

Turbulent_Gene_7567

Very true but this polarization is seen in all social media, of which Reddit is one. Watch forums are just as polarising as iPhone Vs android or xbox vs ps. I feel like the Casio crowd has the least percentage of people who take watches too seriously. Which has also drawn me to the brand.

-2SAD-

5000 is also way overhyped and overpriced. They would never make an ultimate G-Shocks in that price range. Maybe someday they would upgrade MRG-B5000 but it would cost even more. So it would be around 5000$. With STN/MIP display, good even backlight, titanium and sapphire crystal.

Turbulent_Gene_7567

Overpriced not so much. I got mine new for 225 euros which I consider reasonable, given the features and nicer materials. I also prefer the toned down look of the 5000 over the 5610. I'm afraid it could indeed be an MRG given the way Casio is heading. I don't see a reason why it has to be though, as they also released the GMW-B5000d for 500. They also recently released a couple of 400-500 euro titanium Frogman's. I bought the red one and the black and yellow one, and might be going for the new white and gold one as well. If they do decide to make a more premium GW-5000 that's positioned under the actual premium line at around the same price as the Frogman, I think they have a winner. I would be satisfied if they put the b5000d module in the gw-5000 and made it titanium. So it would be a kind of resin gmw-b5000d superleggera.

-2SAD-

5610u.

ToughDesigner7072

Another option to add to the above alternatives- the DWH5600. Looks like a classic square but slightly bigger and chunkier buttons. But the screen is MIP and interface is all different. If you want to move out of squares, nearly all other G-Shocks have chunkier buttons that are easier to press.

-2SAD-

GWS5600U is also a variant to consider. It doesn't have that "premium" heft and screw back but It's the lightest of all squares because the buttons, back cover and buckle are made of titanium. Some people also call it a "premium" square. But it has shiny bezel and shiny carbon fiber band which is too long and too stiff.

Imagine_TryingYT

I use the 5000U as my daily. With the way the case works yes the buttons are hard to press but you eventually get used to it and learn what angles work the best. However all resin and metal squares have this issue due to the recessed buttons and protruding edges so the 5600 and 5610 line will still have the same issue. But if you really want a square with easy to press buttons try the GDB200

Bomsek

I'll have a look, thanks for the advice.

-2SAD-

The module is not the same. GBD200(and DWH5600) was Casio's attempt to make a fitness watch, not a true square G without all that bells and whistles. The display is good but the software is horrible. In that way Garmin Instinct 2S/2X Solar would be much better choice if you want something like GBD200 either for EDC or fitness.

TJXStyles

I had the same problem with my GW5000, the buttons were hard to press unless I used my fingernails. I took the bezel off my GWB5600 and swapped them. The buttons are now much more visible and easier to press.

Bomsek

What bezel are you using now?

Bomsek

Ah sorry, didn't read good enough. What are the differences between both bezels?

TJXStyles

I'm not sure, but now my GWB5600 buttons are harder to see and press after switching bezels. The only reason I switched the bezels was that the original bezel on the GW5000 was too soft and moved too much on the watch like when I pressed the buttons you would see that part of the bezel get pushed in as well. I guess a benefit was that the buttons are now easier to see and press on my GW5000 now that I switched bezels. The plastic bezel of the GWB5600 is stiffer. The GWB5600 is stealth so the words PROTECTION and G-SHOCK doesn't have any white in it. I took some acrylic paint from dollar store and filled it in, it's been 5 years and the paint is still in there

Bomsek

I understand thanks for clarifying. I kind of like the idea of having a stealth watch.

158405159

GMW B5000 would be a good upgrade

Ordinary_Problem_817

Nooooo! It’s perfect. Is it really so much of an issue to press these buttons, singularly one of the best designed watches on the planet. I’ll give you £50 for it 😜

PriorityLucky7701

Get a GMW-B5000.

i420iBuddahMaster

I have a dw-5600 and my only pain is the adjust button which is a bit buried into the watch, resetting the stopwatch can be kinda annoying but I love it still, I am currently using my DW 6900 which has better pushers in my opinion.

The_Nepenthe

I end up using a pocket tool almost every time I need to use the adjust button on my DW5600 honestly.

Savings-Range782

“It’s literally unusable” maybe look into a Cartier bracelet you fucking ninny lol

santoryu33

Make stronger fingers
