Get one from the CMP, don't fuck around with the gun show scalpers.
Go to the CMP and pick one out yourself if you can. It's a cool place and the guys running it really know their Garands. If you're not a collector, they have some rebarreled ones available currently, even some in .308
The south store is awesome, never been to the north store. Don’t be afraid to ask the folks working some questions. I learned a lot about my rifles personal history that way and now I get to say I know who owned it and what they used it for prior to it getting into my hands.
I got a Garand about a year ago, and it is by far my favorite rifle to shoot. Also, there’s nothing like hearing that last ping and having literally everyone at the range turn and look at you.
What kind of ammo do you run through it? I see conflicting information on shooting .30 caliber ball ammo and just low grain 30-06. I got a Garand a few months ago and haven’t shot it yet due to fear of running the incorrect ammo

That's my plan. The one I got to shoot today was "field grade" and I was amazed at what good shape it was in.

The north store is where I got mine, I had a similar experience there too. Just a bunch of chill, friendly, knowledgeable people.

My Garand is my favorite rifle I own. It's a sexy beast, and it's so much fun to shoot. Patton was right about the Garand.
I own a M1903a3 and an M1: with how hard the 1903 kicks by comparison to a Garand, I’d be pissed if I got a 1903. They’re both awesome.
