dual wield long barrel .357s of your choice with snakeshot

procheeseburger

Blunderbuss or GTFO

[deleted]

What are the potential threats bears hogs people snake or?

Giff13

Mostly worried about small animals or coyote maybe a crackhead, making meth in the woods Haha

Wraccores

Ruger Mini-14 Ranch would work

[deleted]

So that eliminates .22.lr. while 9mm 45 and 10mm stay on the table you're px4 should be fine maybe test it out on a particularly dirty day and just at the end of the day give it a once over may wd40 if you think it needs it.

Cobra__Commander

WD-40 kills primers. Anything marketed as a gun lubricant would be a better choice.

solanu719

Hate that WD40 is thought to be good as a lubricant, especially for firearms. I mean, the smell is amazing. If you’re putting a few squirts on for the scent, totally understand. Otherwise? Hell nah.

[deleted]

Good to know. I've only ever used it in a pinch.

Giff13

Nice. Good idea. Thanks!

Ok_Security2723

Coyotes are scared af of humans

iNapkin66

Are you worried about animals or people? If animals, what kind? Sounds like you'll be doing physical work. You might look into a shoulder harness, it might be more comfortable. An outside waistband can also work, but make sure to have one with multiple points of retention. Depending on the exact work, it can get annoying to have it catch on things.

Giff13

Mostly worried about small animals or coyote maybe a crackhead, making meth in the woods Haha. Thank you I was wondering about a shoulder harness also.

Corey307

A PX4 is a solid pistol, mine has been great.

jerebediah

Plus 2 on this. Mines the LTT compact carry with RDO cut. Never failed to fire. Great accuracy. Phenomenal trigger with LTTs help. Wouldn't be a gun I'd take out on the farm but I'd gladly by a cheaper version and do the trigger in a bag and take that on the farm.

EldoMasterBlaster

I used to go to a ranch in S. Texas where snakes were the biggest threat followed by wild hogs. I carried a 1911 with two rounds of snake shot followed by 7 rounds of hollow points.

Tommygun1921

The snake shot cycle?

EldoMasterBlaster

Yep. Never had a problem with them.

300zx_tt

What are you concerned with? Animals or people? 110 acres in Montana or Idaho I’d carry a .44 mag. Worried about cats in Arizona or Utah I’d carry a higher capacity 9mm. Case use will help us a lot.

BeadDauber

Glock 48 or Glock 19

hohohoagy

Little single stack 9 is all I carry or need in Kentucky. I went a while without as there’s really nothing I’m worried about but had a standoff with a big feral looking dog, so rather have it and not need it than….

Giff13

This is exactly what I’m worried about, I’ve never had a problem, but there are wild dogs out here and rabid animals and coyotes

[deleted]

What kind of holster do you want or need? Do you go around on a SxS or a truck, or mostly on foot? Personally, I'd just get a surplus m12 holster and carry the Beretta. Good retention, easy to take on and off without undoing your belt, and not too obtrusive if you use a thigh strap with it.

[deleted]

Skip the PX4 storm, and get a Beretta APX. They are stupidly affordable and fantastic quality. Bear have been fended off with 9m, so for Coyotes its more then adequate.

Cheapbandit

A snub nosed judge with some 410 bird shot is probably the best snake gun that can be easily be carried on a person. You could even alternate the round where it’s one bird shot then one 45 long colt. The long colt would probably be decent against big game.

Giff13

Nice

coldafsteel

What are you worried is going to pop out at you?

ThumperOG

When I don't want a gelco with my 40 cal m&p on my hip, I slip my 9 mm Ruger pocket pistol in my pocket.

imatwork999

I carry my .357 Ruger Security Six and alternate shotshells and HP .357s

Short_1_Leg

My XD40 is like a Timex, it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!

MAJ0R_KONG

I'd carry a 10mm or 45 strapped to the thigh. With at least one extra mag.

ZuluPapa

.357 revolver with whatever applicable ammo you want. Maybe some snake and something for a larger animal on either 2 or 4 legs.

[deleted]

Ive been doing farmwork for 14+ years. Ive carried a full size p226 in the past but my main squeeze has been a glock 19 in AIWB. Most days i carry a backup mag. I added a rmr type 2 -3 years ago and never looked back, it does accumulate some dust and what not but thats why u have your maintenance days.

PSAisforlovers2

The PX4 Storm is the definition of 'meh'. It would probably be fine, wouldn't be my first choice. Go to a store and handle a few. You'll find something you like.

[deleted]

Glock 20

danngree

I’ve got a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 Compact Super Bantam that I always have with me on the riding mower and when I go deeper in the woods in the rhino. I keep it loaded with #4 buck, and it’s always done me well. I always have a 9mm handgun with me but have used the shotgun much more.

metaldetectoristmatt

Lever 45-70

Alpoi

I do similar farm work and I have a gun boot on my 4-wheeler and tractor with a Maverick 88 in them. I have them both loaded with 00 Buck, may be overkill for somethings but enough for anything, with that load you just have to get close....lol

BigBintheD2319

Bond arms snakeslayer or other version like rowdy. 410 or 45 colt or one of each in each barrel. I feel well armed with that on me. But if the Meth-heads are truly a concern I’d carry my 10mm 1911 in a shoulder holster.

Minmach-123

P365xl maybe.

JumpOutBoyz1096

What about a lever action truck gun?

CZShooter60

I only have five acres, but have additional acreage around me. I bought one of those chest rig holsters and carry my big 2011 in it unless it's super hot then I have a Kydex OWB with a sturdy belt. Why bother with a small gun on your own property?

Snakeplisskin47

P226 elite SAO

Jo-6-pak

I’ve carried a Ruger GP100 as my “woods gun” while fixing fences, clearing trails, etc. the key is to find a spot to carry where it’s out of the way. I carried on the belt just behind the hip (4 o’clock position) I’ve also carried full size CZ75 in the same spot. Both in flap holsters to protect the gun

tdogg650

Cab tractor? I know guys that have mounted a small AR inside theirs. Mostly for offensive use against animals not defensive. I can all but assure you no coyote or hog is interested in attacking you while you're brush hogging. For other types of work, any knock around gun inside your truck or side by side will do. I live on some acreage in a very rural area and I don't know anyone that carries on their body while doing that kind of work. Usually I've just got whatever kind of tools I'm using - chainsaw, etc.

zmannz1984

I carry a compact ar or ak when i am alone in the deep woods or out checking fences. Otherwise i just have my 9 or 10mm on my side, owb.

staysharp75

I carry a Rossi 357 on my person. An old 20 gauge single shot & a double barrel 410/45lc in my truck. Its usually snakes that I come across that need to be taken care of haven’t needed anything else but have considered carrying an ar or marlin 336 instead of the 20 gauge.

ChevTecGroup

Typically my glock19. Don't conceal it when home so it's more comfortable. Helped to fed off a few mean stray dogs last month. Not til after they killed a chicken and tore up a couple more though

Fit_Yak_4184

10mm!
