A perk of being a native Spanish speaker is that I'm drawn to pronounce Simon's name like this and it's apparently more accurate than the way it'd be pronounced in English
Simon's name is derived from the word Shita no (下の) meaning Under, so I've always used Shi-mun. Most of Gurren Lagann characters are named after directions. Kamina comes from Above. Yoko means Beside. Gimi is Right (Migi) and Dari is Left (Hidari).
No, you're absolutely right. 👍
I think that was possibly just a typo in that earlier comment. (Though D and K aren't next to each other on a keyboard, so I don't know.)
That's funny, as I've found other roots for Kamina meaning "low-born" or "minimum" in Hindu, which I find fitting as he was born underground and is a very "minimum" person, not in his personality of course though. But if you break it down in Japanese it separates into tree, and reality or truth, which I guess is also an accurate description for him as he is kind of the tree that allows Simon and the others to "blossom", and he "kicks logic to the side" which is the reality, or truth, of the GL universe. But of course, as you said, his name also comes from Kami, which means Above, or God, which both represent his willingness to go to the surface and the heavens.
Funnily enough, Gurren Lagann's original scrapped english dub by ADV pronounced it as Sigh-muhn.
Of course, I've been conditioned to read the name Simon as See-Mone, which I'm kind of proud of.
Shi-mon. It's technically Sea-mon. I'm used to the Japanese pronunciation. Honestly, anything you like best is fine. You're not gonna go to jail for saying Sigh-mon. :P
lol I just read it and know it as “See-mon” but I won’t mispronounce someone called Simon “S-I-mon” and say it as “See-mon”. However it’s pronounced in the show or in person is how it is 😂
But I’ll admit names, words and languages can be funny 😂
I think if you asked the creators, they would say to pronounce it Sigh mun. Our boi has an american name. They just pronounce it funny cus they're japanese. That being said, I pronounce it see moan cus that's how its pronounced in the dub and it just feels right.
Sure, and if you're Australian you'll pronounce it more like "soy mihn." That wasn't really my point though. I think I may have worded it oddly. Basically what I mean is we're all trying to say the same name. We just say it differently because of our accents.
Sea Moan
Correct
Simon makes me sea moan
You moan so hard, the ocean spills out of you (\*did I do this right?\*)
Same
Yerp

Why is this so perfect?
I do.
And Shi-mun sounds similar to the Spanish pronounciation which is Simón (I like to call him Simón, tho).
Some people call him Simón in the show too haha
Don’t know if it’s just me not being very good at Japanese but I believe that left is actually hidari while hikari is light.
No, you're absolutely right. 👍 I think that was possibly just a typo in that earlier comment. (Though D and K aren't next to each other on a keyboard, so I don't know.)
That was a typo. My bad.

I never knew about the direction thing, thank you very much for sharing
It’s definitely not Sigh muhn. I would go with the dub and say See Mone.
Funnily enough, Gurren Lagann's original scrapped english dub by ADV pronounced it as Sigh-muhn. Of course, I've been conditioned to read the name Simon as See-Mone, which I'm kind of proud of.
Sea-mone
Names should be pronounced as original, so, the correct way should be "Shimon". Anyway, I speak spanish and just call him Simon
Is that see moan or si mohn
Basically, it's "See", but with "mon" as the way you say it in "Pokémon", no weird inflection like in "moan".
Yeah that was the joke
Sheemoan
Shi-mon. It's technically Sea-mon. I'm used to the Japanese pronunciation. Honestly, anything you like best is fine. You're not gonna go to jail for saying Sigh-mon. :P
Yea u are
In the sub they say it kinda Sheemoan so that's what i use
"Xi mon" xD
Sea moan lmao
As a French speaker, I say "Seehmon"
i say it how the characters say it
Sea mon
Sai mon
Japanese: "Shimon" English: "Simone"
Like Simón Bolivar
Pronounce it the Spanish way
See moan
See-moan tho I will admit I’ve only watched the Dub.
Cum
See-mone and sy-muhn both work, the latter is just them saying it fast
Seemone
See Mone
She Moan
I like to pronounce it similar to the Japanese: Simón (or Simon in Spanish).
Sea-Moan 🇫🇷🥖
Like Biles
See moan
See-Mone.
si as in sid, mone as in mode
Exactly as they do in the dub
Well, since my native language is Spanish I pronounce it like the name Simón
See Mon
Shimon
Shi Monn, like the Japanese original voice
Sea Moan. Like in the original Japanese Sub!!
Sea-mon cuz spanish madafaka
Shimon. For me is literaly chi- mon.
Semen
lol I just read it and know it as “See-mon” but I won’t mispronounce someone called Simon “S-I-mon” and say it as “See-mon”. However it’s pronounced in the show or in person is how it is 😂 But I’ll admit names, words and languages can be funny 😂
Sea moan
Well, I'm Spanish, so I pronounce it as it sounds in Spanish: seemón (the accent mark in the "o" means that is this letter the stronger that sounds)
She-mon the Piercer. Can you dig it?
Şimon
I pronounce it She-moan because she never moaned
His name is pronounced the same in Spanish, so I guess Simón
Like simone
In spanish
Simone like limone Si mo n like li mo n
She moan
Sea-Moan
The way the show pronounces it?
Like the dub
Slovakia: Šimon
She-moan /s

Bro Simon is also used in hispanic countries and its pronouced similar to the Japanese versión, not everyone in the world is gonna say *sigh-mon*
