Surprised with the song choice honestly

apricot_princxss

i understand that! it was nice to see something different than ‘wait for me’ tbh but i’m suprised they didn’t do it. i’m glad they did a fates song though! they’re so great in the show

Specialist-West7744

I thought it was an odd couple of song choices but then the shows rarely bring the whole cast out to do West End Live, especially since they had a matinee to do later too. Also love to hear Irish Orpheus and Midlands Eurydice - both the swings were on when I saw it in May so I'm eager to see all the videos of performances like this until we get 🤞 a West End cast recording 🤞

NewEngClamChowder

Sounds great, though I must admit it's still hard to adjust to hearing these songs like "Ohl oive eva known..."

fumblingvista

I hate hearing it without the accents now.

Zealousideal-Way9010

I have seen it on Broadway 3 times and on tour twice and just saw it on the west end a couple days ago and her accent REALLY stood out to me lol. Glad I’m not alone because I was like…wow, that’s different 🤣

richardjfoster

I was sad that neither Hermes or Hades made an appearance. I'd have loved to see the workers there, too. (As a side note, when I saw the show a couple of weeks back, the stage presence of both Waylon Jacobs and Beth Hinton-Lever was incredible. I hope they both get a shot at leading roles, not necessarily in Hadestown, and I'm able to see a performance of whatever they get to star in.)

Kiss_The_Alderman

I think I read earlier that Waylon is on as Hermes all next week. I'm sure he'll be amazing.

apricot_princxss

i saw waylon as hermes and he was great!

fumblingvista

I love that they chose songs that aren’t usually part of promo material. So glad they did the choreography too - it’s so impactful where it’s the opposite of the lyrics (like when she’s pushing him back). But who let Donal wear white socks?!

apricot_princxss

me too!! i didn’t notice the socks tho haha

fumblingvista

Now you will never unsee them!

callegranada

Thanks for posting this, because I went to check it out on YouTube. I loved it. Loved hearing Orpheus and Eurydice singing with their accents since I’ve only seen the show in the states.

apricot_princxss

yes it’s a nice change! i’m jealous you’ve seen it in the US tho!! haha

ptolemy18

The Broadway cast does Chips Are Down pretty frequently for these kinds of events. It’s such a bop.

apricot_princxss

i never noticed that! but i’m glad they do

nycdataviz

They all sound dreadful. None of the cast can hold the notes, there’s no power in their voices. Incredible how low the talent bar for theater is overseas.

Zealousideal-Way9010

Maybe it’s because of the setting? I’ve seen the show 5 times in the US but just saw them in London a few days ago and while I much prefer the US, it was still solid 🤷🏼‍♀️ Persephone was especially good!

apricot_princxss

yes gloria onitri is incredible as persephone!

Kiss_The_Alderman

I honestly think there's something wrong with the West End Live setup. The majority of acts sound worse here than any other time I've heard them perform. They often sound shaky, pitch can be off, and it all sounds a bit lifeless and weak. And it's not just Hadestown.

TomOfGinland

I agree, apart from the theater overseas part. The west end shows I’ve been lucky enough to see have been as good as or better than Broadway. This performance was bad though. Poor vocals and terrible song choices. The fates’ voices didn’t harmonize at all. It sounded strained and weak.

Evening_Head_4959

who are these two?

apricot_princxss

donal finn and grace hodgett-young from the west end production! :)
