It's a gorgeous bag, but it will still be there to purchase in some firm when you're more comfortable with the purchase. Meanwhile, if you buy it while you're not feeling 100% secure about the decision you may find yourself growing disappointed or resentful of the bag.
How that?
In addition, one thing Iāve learned over the years is that there will always be a handbag to buy when I have the cash, even if itās not the one I want now. Sometimes, I look back at a handbag that I desperately wanted, but didnāt get and say to myself āwhat was I thinking?ā Not that this bag isnāt beautiful, but your tastes may change.
You can get it at a lot lower price resale compared to retail. The LD is a beautiful bag and I love mine but I would not pay retail prices for them but thatās just me
Have you checked eBay? Maybe even eBay Japan? I personally wouldnāt buy this unless I had no worries about savings. It just leaves room for buyers remorse to fester. Also im pretty sure this bag will be around forever.
Oh if youāre going for a specific color then I feel like itās more justifiable. Personally I would wait a bit and try going pre loved before pulling the trigger but again itās up to you
This is very sound advice. But as someone who looked for two years at preloved Lady Diors, trying to find the exact couple of color and hardware combinations I wanted, I found that preloved ones were often damaged or worn in a way that made me think: ādo I want to pay $4500 for a bag with scratches, structure loss or corner wear, or do I want to pay the extra $1500 to get a pristine bag? (This was my one true dream bag, so my tolerance for wear was lesser than on some other types of bags that donāt hold their value, like my preloved Fendi peekaboo that does have wear.) I did ultimately find a pristine preloved Lady Dior for $1,000 off retail, but it was a slog to find it (from a seller that I trusted).
I mean, that is how much a handmade bag would cost. You cant really find them sub 3000
Though I doubt this is hand stitched
Edit: Downvoters Iād like to know where you get your hand stitched bags sub 3000. Most luxury brands donāt use hand stitching.
I have the small and it's kind of top heavy. It teeters around on its tiny little pointed feet and falls over easily, so I don't really trust it to stand up on its own unless it's really loaded up. That's my only personal con. I've also heard people say they don't like the flap closure and the charms also jingle and make noise, but I've never taken issue with either of those things. I really like mine and I'm especially glad they got rid of the zipper on the smaller sizes
Username checks out but in all seriousness, when I have something super expensive, it is a pain because i'd be worried about using it carefully to not scratch or bruise or break it or where to place it or if someone's gonna spill something on it. It's like paying a fortune to be in constant torture of anxiety.
There is nothing more satisfying than being in control and financially secure.
Elegance is refusal.
It is better to have money than to look like you have money.
PREACH! Honestly, nothing makes me feel more baller than looking at an overpriced bag and thinking, 'I could buy that but I choose not to." Knowing that makes me feel better than any bag ever could.
Ultimately itās just a bag. If it seems overpriced for someone then itās not really for them. Itās like any other thing that we buy. If a pair of socks seem to be overpriced to me then it means that I am not monetarily comfortable or mentally comfortable with the amount of money I have to spend on socks.
Itās a whole different thing that a lot of people blow months of their savings to buy designer stuff though. Theyāre obvious financially unwise
Does that hold true for all Dior bags? I do think they are very pretty but money aside, even if I have enough saved for one IDK if I could deal with the jangle.
Yes, anything with charms, but it varies. I would try on any Dior bag with charms before purchasing it & wander around the store to see if it's too noisy (if you're sensitive to that).
The color is divine. I hope they make men's bag in that color.... But I'm worried about the "blow up my savings" part. If you can afford it and if you're living comfortably then by all means go for it.
Lovely bag! I have a smaller version, and while itās beautiful, I get quite annoyed by the noise of the charms clinking together. Thereās not much you can do about it. Some people love it but it can be a bit of a nuisance.
Iām literally at the doctorās office right now watching a lady in the waiting room with this bag and her charms are so annoying.. it also does not seem very functional, if Im being honest.
It's pretty non functional and not an everyday bag imo. It's nice enough but you would be miserable if you blew your savings for that bag that you can't even wear most days. Also it has poor resell value so I'd get it used. Do not buy that bag new.
It's a pretty bag and Dior afterall, but if you're ready to "blow" your money (savings!) for just a bag at the end of the day, then it's not worth it. I know it's tempting.
Never compromise your essential savings for something as non-essential as a handbag. They are very nice to have, but if something were to happen and you needed emergency funds, you'd really regret this. I'd say save up, and wait until you have a more sizeable safety net, then reevaluate
Only spend savings on a bag if they were saved for that bag lol. I have my money squirreled away across a high yield savings account in one bank, two retirement accounts at separate firms, and a brokerage account at one of those same firms to keep it away from myself. Iām only allowed to spend money saved in my checking specifically for fun purchases, and my checking is at a bank i use ONLY for my checking lmfao
Have you only seen it online? My #1 rule for designer bag purchases is I can only buy it if I see it in person. And donāt feel like you have to buy anything in store if you donāt absolutely love it. You can tell an S.A. exactly what youāre looking for and they can text you a different color or style that comes out that you might 1000% love if youāre not quite sure if you love the bag.
I wanted a Lady Dior for like 10 years lol finally went in to make the purchase, ended up with a D-Joy for half the price. I just love the D-Joy much more and they had a color that was super limited and sold out everywhere else. So stores often might have colors they donāt have online too.
I wouldnāt spend your entire savings but if you are only spending some of it, itās not a permanent purchase either. I know alot of people will talk you out of spending savings but we only live once š¤·š»āāļø In the past, Iād spend my savings on a bag and then tell myself if shit hits the fan, I can sell it. Sure, Iāll lose some money on it, but if I got to enjoy it for a little while, then it feels more like I just borrowed the bag to enjoy. I personally never ran into a situation where I had to resell. The thing about money is you can always make more. I just sold other things or side hustled when I needed more savings. You can look at it that way if this bag is something you really love and the color is seasonal.
Doing the financially smart thing is obviously going to be the wiser choice but as someone whoās known people who died too soon before they could enjoy their hard earned money, Iām always an advocate for enjoying it while you can and selling things if you have to later. Now, that all being said, if you have bills to pay, credit card debt, or loans to pay, absolutely do not get the bag lol
It's a delicate balance between not enjoying one's life to the fullest vs not being in a financial bind. I know people (my in laws cough) who have quite a bit of money but understandably penny pinch (they were refugees and very poor) and IMO they don't do anything fun for themselves. I also know people who live paycheck to paycheck who spend like Paris Hilton and then ask me to not cash their check to me as a wedding gift bc they don't have enough funds in their bank acct. Somewhere in the middle is nice.
My rule of thumbs is I can spend after I've saved up for emergency savings (3mo's worth of expenses should sh\*t hit the fan) and target funds (we have an old car so saving for a new one in case this one breaks down at any moment) etc I can spend my leftovers. easy way to not have to watch the budget while still maintaining a safety net.
Absolutely this. It is a delicate balance. Iām someone who came from nothing and have been on my own since I was a teenager. So luxury spending was not an option until much later on in life. I also think that something to remember is that unlike some other hobbies in life, buying handbags is ageless. You donāt need to be 21 maxing out credit cards to buy a bag. Designer bags will always be around. I bought myself a bunch of cheap bags throughout my 20s because thatās really all I could afford but I went into debt to buy a Chanel bag once. Luckily, I ended up reselling a few years later for profit, but I would never ever ever advocate for credit card debt. It is not worth the bag. Iām in my mid 30s now and buy whatever I want within reason. Definitely treat yourself but only if youāve taken care of every other expense.
Lambskin gets damaged/scratched soooooo fast, and with the lady dior I always worry about what I'll be able to carry.Ā I know that plenty of girls wear dainty bags, but I'm a practical lady who needs to carry water, documents, a kindle, etc. Are you genuinely a little bag person?
As a middle class person, i wouldnt want to spend a significant amount of my savings on expensive bags. Sure they are nice but after a while it just sits thereā¦. Idk man i hope you really think this through. 5k is quite a lot. But if you have 200k savings i guess it changes my opinion.
Give yourself a goal to achieve and once you achieve it, you deserve the bag. I guarantee that by that point, youāll probably want it a lot less.
I used to love YSL - Iāve been looking at a bag for 3 years. Once I graduated, got a job, and had the money - the style didnāt resonate with me anymore. Now it looks a little outdated and while I still like it, I donāt have that urge to spend my savings on it.
I agree with everything you've said ā except the Lady Dior is not a trend bag. It is most definitely a classic which has remained popular for three decades now. A bag made for, and made iconic by, Princess Diana could never be called a passing trend.
Agree. It might become not on trend but it will always be wearable, and I guarantee that every 5-10 years thereāll be a nostalgia craze for LD bags because thatās just how trends cycles work
Have you tried this bag on? I used to love the LD until I tried it on at the store and realized I hated the opening so that killed the dream for me. š
Personally Iād hold off until you know for sure you want to get it, regardless of the price. I learned that if you truly love a bag, you wonāt regret buying it. Years ago I bought a Chanel CF even though at the time I didnāt make as much and my boyfriend (now husband) got so mad at me. š¤£ Several years later I rarely wear it out but I have to say I have no regrets!
Look, itās a gorgeous bag in a gorgeous colour. Iām all for spending cash on something that brings me joyāno matter how frivolous and financially unjustifiable it is. (Yeah, I donāt care if thereās less than 500 dollars worth of leather in it.) HOWEVER, I would never spend money that I couldnāt really spare or would have to buy in credit.
Buy within your means, donāt overspend just for a bag. I donāt think Dior holds amazing resell value if you plan on selling it in the future. I would recommend looking into second hand bags if you really want it, but again - donāt overspend š
Can you buy two without hurting financially? Is it worth taking your savings out (which I hope are on a high-yielf of at least 5%)? I mean it's nice, a bit oldish and not so practical but a classic that you'd be able to buy pre-loved.
That bag looks really really... uncool and grandma in that pic š
This looks like a Sears/JC Penney ad š¬ so unfortunately that's all I see.
Are you willing to blow your savings on something that looks like it belongs at Sears?!
When I was doing my first internship, I was pretty much broke. I saw a ring that was the equivalent of a few hundred Euros, but it was still too much for me.. Every time I would go past one of the stores (it was a chain store), I would pop in to see it or try it on.. A few months later, I couldnāt find it in most stores so I thought it was sold out city-wide, and I really lamented not getting it..
A year later, it came back and by then I had built up my savings to a comfortable level, so when I saw it again, I immediately bought it, paying with my debit card..
The satisfaction of being able to buy it with my savings rather than on credit, and not even second-guessing, was such a high! I know that it wouldnāt have been such a rush if I had been agonizing about my savings at the time..
Waiting will just make it that much sweeter when you do get it..
Itās not matte, itās the classic lambskin, pictures are not accurate. If you truly want it and can comfortably buy it, then get it. I have the medium and Iām considering getting either a small or a mini, personally I love this bag. Negative things: it doesnāt hold its value, lambskin is very delicate and needs to be babied, the hardware charms get scratched very easily.
I do think they're very pretty bags however I'm very skeptical to get one because 1) I feel like the charms will annoy me and 2) I don't attend events where wearing fancy bags is warranted; like one wedding a year isn't worth it, and I def don't feel comfortable wearing smth like this to go grocery shopping.
I want a Diorissimo, feels way more functional and I looove the smooth leather

As a person who ALWAYS contemplates using her sayings for a bag, donāt do it. Instead, first go see it in person if you can. I would never spend that kind of money on a bag I havenāt actually tried on and touched. You may hate it in person. And if you still love itā¦.start saving for it. You donāt want to blow your savings on a purse.
Just let you know you might have buyers remorse. Itās not very classic, it will loose value over time. But maybe a second hand market option might make this buy less risky.
I love handbags but whenever I got one I couldnāt comfortably afford, I didnāt feel great about it. Donāt blow your savings on a bag. Itās really not worth it.
If youāve built up an emergency savings, maxed out retirement , serviced any existing debt, and paid your bills - and have money left over - go for it.
If not - develop the mindset that you can appreciate beautiful things without needing to possess them.
Being financially secure is way cooler than this handbag. Itās a delicate balance between saving and living a little. When in doubt I would lean towards the former.
Buying the bag when you can afford it feels like a celebration of your badassery. You've made it!
Buying it before you can afford it feels stressful and insecure. You're taking better care of your image than of your real self.
You deserve better.
The handles do now lower all the way. You have to keep them upright at all times or if they lower, they only do about 120 degrees. Looks really awkward.
Itās a beautiful bag but I have heard as well itās difficult to open because of the flap and hardly holds anything. A handbag influencer I follow replaced her small Lady Dior that made her crazy with the Lady D Joy, which looks the same as the Lady Dior but is made in an East West style. She bought it in a beautiful burgundy too and loves itš
I suggest buying other real leather brands thatās within the price, not over priced bags all bc of THE BIG NAME BRAND. Check out la portegna, strathberry, sezane! They all sell good quality leather bags for a decent cost! :)
This color is GORGEOUS! My issue with the lady Dior is the usability, the little flap in the middle would drive me nuts and the handles are a bit awkward to hold because they are so flat.
Lady Dior is really hard to wear. It looks too formal for most outfits and too casual for evening wear. Itās a beautiful bag, but one I wish I just admired from a distance. Itās the only luxury bag I regret purchasing
I didnāt know they had a matte Bordeaux version, and now I canāt unknow this. I love it š
Iām not a very financially responsible person, so I say as long as youāre not blowing your emergency fund out the window, go for it!
Now that you've mentioned it, I see it! I must check it out in the store first! Okay, so good, you didn't talk me out of the purchase but certainly delayed it a little bit! š
Definitely see in person. They are a bit awkwardly shaped so sit oddly on some people and the flap is hard to get in and out of. You might not love it in person.
Love the Lady Dior bags and have several. They are such underrated pieces for me! BUT please donāt buy. Keep growing your savings and building your future. Bags will always be there when youāre financially there.
Hey OP, I totally get it, but don't do it. You never know what the future may bring, and no luxury purchase is worth compromising your financial security. A year from now, you probably won't even remember this bag, and if you do, then you can probably find it if you diligently search the secondhand market.
āReady to blow part of my savings on thisā. This statement says a lot. I am sorry, but please wait until you are ready. Please donāt jeopardize your security over a bag, what others think, etc. be patient and find an amazing pre loved option. Or, wait until you can buy it twice without blinking. Then you can afford it.
Says who? You?
It's almost like it's entirely subjective. That bag is old and tired. Tacky looking trinkets hanging off it. Soz.
Don't let Tik Tok tell you what to like.
Uh...I don't care for this bag either, but how can you say "it's entirely subjective" and then denounce it as "old and tired" as if that is an official established fact, implying that no one might genuinely like it regardless of tiktok trends?
BOTH of your opinions are subjective, lol.
Lambskin is really soft and needs to be babied. If you worry about your bag all the time whenever you take it out, you may not take it out much. And that would be a shame!
Plus the flap is annoying. I bought the embroidered D-lite because Iām a sucker for embroidery but kinda wish they didnāt have that stupid flap. Itās so rigid too - it would be hard to get in and out if it without scratching the soft leather .
If you arenāt comfortable spending part of your savings on a bag then donāt do it. I love the Lady Dior and will always want one, but at the same time itās a very expensive purchase. Have you looked at the preloved market?
I wanted the bag for forever as well. The bag is gorgeous, but I will say the handles are annoying since the don't fold back ( it think they do in the East-west version of the bag).
As others have said, buy second-hand/vintage; cheaper and the quality can be just as good. Dior has enough money, they don't need any of yours!
If you like it because of the brand, maybe this is a purchase you can plan for. Perhaps a deferred payment plan would be better for your budget? But if you like the style (the quilted look is so cute and, heads up, definitely becomes more popular with designers during the fall season), I'm willing to bet there's a better price out there for you, probably with a small leather purse brand. My experience with small brands has always greatly surpassed name brand items in customer care, product quality, and general purchase satisfaction. You might even find something with more/different options to suit your need and style.
As a purse lover with a compulsive streak and a bank account with low numbers, my trick to not screw myself over with a large purchase is this:
-First, I ALWAYS look for other options from different brands (image searching helps with this!) Even if you're convinced this one is perfection, what's the harm in taking a look elsewhere?
- Next, I take a 24 hour cooling off period (This is VITAL. Make sure this period is spent away from the item and obsessing over it. I'm not even gonna tell you to stop shopping, just get your mind off the specific item. Maybe you need some new sandals, focus on that for a bit and get your mind off the obsession.)
-And, if after that, I'm still obsessed, I'll find a way to get a discount (through first time purchases, email subscriber discounts, and waiting until holidays for sale events (Father's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day are the upcoming U.S. holidays that sales usually run on)
Either way, when you're over come with the urge to click purchase or swipe your card, always check the return policy! Happy handbag hunting!
It wonāt fit a lot at all. Itās beautiful but it might not be the most practical/usable and I have also heard that the opening is not the most usable. Q
It looks gorgeous š
What type of leather is this? Maybe it is more susceptible to damage? Also, before making a purchase, you can check it out in the store. It might not look as good.
Please follow the sage advice given. Set up a special savings, put the money in a CD and keep adding. Then when you are close to the price from the earnings on the money, buy it with your earnings.
Donāt blow your savings on a bag. Live within your means. Set up a saving account just for the bag if you really want it, but at the end of the day, itās still just a bag š¤·š½āāļøš¤·š½āāļøš¤·š½āāļø
I'm just not a big fan of this bag. I do love the color, but the style is just kind of plain. Have you looked on Mercari? I find really cute bags on there.
It's Lambskin, so not an everyday bag that you will be able to use lots and lots.. and if you are not sure, that's a LOT of $$$. Put the brakes on. AND like someone else said , maybe try to find one later lightly used so you don't freak out with that first scratch
Have one in fard/blush and it's beautiful but I almost never get to use it. It's just too dressy. Think about what you like about the bag and maybe see if that is only bag that ticks those boxes. Example: for me I love the cannage texture, the charms, and the overall aesthetic. However my style is more casual than the Lady Dior would suit, so I've been looking at the Toujours bag which is slouchy and much more casual. Also as others have said you can buy pre-owned at a steep savings.
Think of your upcoming bills, do you have a 12 month emergency savings? The purse will still be there and color is available all over, but does your savings account have 5x the amount of the bag? My boyfriend always asks these before o make my purchases, it helps knowing if I am to lose my job I won't have to sell my bag in order to afford more pressing necessities.
I would say, if your financially secure, have a healthy retirement savings and a personal savings that would cover you for six months should you lose your normal income, why not splurge? Thatās the first thing that comes to my mind, about the.$$$$ spent.
If yourāre hesitating because you donāt know if you actually LOVE it, donāt buy yetā¦
I want it too and saving it for a goal (passing certificate) but $6000 is so much I keep going back and forth if itās even worth that much but, Iāve tried it on in person and I really liked it ..
Wait until it goes in sale.. you will regret spending that kind of money in the long run. Whatās the resale value on it if you purchase and need to sale it on Poshmarkā¦
Itās beautiful but I never use my lady Dior. It feels too dressy for every day but not dressy enough for an event. Thereās something sort of old fashioned and stuffy about it so I canāt figure out how to style it.
I have a black Prada that I use all the time instead. I honestly should just sell the Lady Dior because it just doesnāt fit my fashion vibe but I never keep the bag or the little card etc so I figure I canāt get what itās worth.
Check your savings. After you buy the bag, would you have a sufficient amount left in case you or your loved one gets sick? Or in case you lose your job, will there be enough money to cover your needs and bills until you find a new job? If the answer to any of these questions is no, donāt buy the bag. Thatās what I tell myself in such moments.Ā
Never put yourself in financial harmās way to splurge on a luxuryāand depleting your savings is definitely doing that. Make it a goal to put money aside for some time until you can comfortably afford it, and it will be a much more fulfilling purchase. Youāll also be able to enjoy owning it without worry.
I used to stay awake at night wondering if I could afford a car repair or roof leak. I had a change in circumstance and I have a comfortable amount in savings now. NOTHING beats the peace of knowing you can afford it if it comes up. Leave your $$ in savings and set aside a little bit at a time until you can afford this comfortably.
Also, no judgement here if you buy it. You just said talk you out of it š
Not now. It's really cute, but....also found as a dupe. There is better out there that will be more affordable that will resonate with you. The fact you posted means this is not The One. :)
This color is so beautiful. I just donāt think the Lady Dior bags are worth it brand new. I have a few that I got on the resale market for a much more reasonable price. Also, donāt blow your savings on a bag, please. Itās not worth it, plus, if you ever resell that bag, you wonāt get close to what you spent.
Why did you post this LOL that color is GORGEOUS! But also is this a staple? If so itāll always be there and you can keep an eye on it and get it when youāre ready
I was fully prepared to tell you it was ugly, impractical, and wonāt be in-fashion for very longā¦. But I cannot say those things about this bag. Iām now convincing myself I donāt need it, myself. Thanks, OP š
Many ignored OP said āpart of my savingsā. I see some judgement in the comments about that as if she was gonna blow all of her savings on a bag, which isnāt what she said. And how do you imagine paying $5k-$7k for a bag if it wasnāt the money pulled from your savings? Unless you make $15k every paycheck and can buy it with whatās leftover after paying bills. But most people will keep such sums of money in their HYSAs.
As for talking you out of buying it, OP, I would make an argument that LD is very flashy in my opinion. Personally I donāt like it at all. But thatās a matter of taste, so maybe thatās a shitty argument. Try to think why you want it in this color? Is it because you wear a lot of it already or is it because this color is the it color this week/month/year? There will be overexposure of it soon, watch. Just like it happened with ābottega greenā. So maybe think on it a bit more - is it you that wants this bag because of the color or is it that you see it everywhere now?
How many times a year will you use it? If itās occasionally, like maybe 6x per year, then itās not worth it. However if you plan to use it as your workhorse bag (which is highly unlikely) then go for it. Itās all about cost per wear.
Save up and make it a special occasion purchase. Milestone birthday etc. Set the goal to save for it but donāt blow your savings on it. Absolutely love the color.
Sorry but I canāt help you! I love Lady Dior. Personally donāt have one yet but as soon as I saw her in real life I fell in love and thatās coming from a person who is not a huge bag person.
I havenāt stopped thinking about it because itās really hard for me to find a bag I really love. One of the only bag style/design I admire the most. Sheās flawless. Iām saving up for one but I would not get lamb skin. Keep saving girl! I tried? Lol
OMG GUYS! So many responses! Thank you to everyone who took the time out to respond! š So I may have phrased this a little less specifically! I'm ready to blow a "PART" of my savings and definitely wouldn't spend all of my savings on it! š Also, these savings are not any emergency savings, it wouldn't put a financial strain on me by any means. They're savings I do for buying stuff for myself, which includes shoes, bags, outfits, etc.! I hope this clears that part š But loved hearing all your thoughts on it!
Final decision: Would wait till the end of this year and search for it in the pre-loved market, if I cannot, I'll consider buying it! (Only after trying it in the store first)! Thank you all! šš
I had lady dior bags fro
2010-2016 , I used to have like 5-6 of those A d after that I sold it. reason; too delicate. color transfer easily, scuffing around the corner . the value dropped tremendously. No second hand value. I only keeping my chanels.
[Unclaimed Baggage](https://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/products/burgundy-medium-velvet-lady-d-lite-bag) has one - itās from an unclaimed airline suitcase that people buy and sell the contents of. Iām pretty sure they have an authenticator and a storefront, but if youāre looking for one over half off of retail, hereās a similar one! (Might be overpriced given the quality, etc., but I saw it listed and thought of this post!)
Is that 5K?! I'd feel like a fool spending that on any clothing article or accessory, short of good jewelry, that is. But here's what I ask myself when faced with an urge like that: "Will owning this item enhance my life?" It has come to my rescue a few times, since the answer is usually No. Hope this helps.
This is a beautiful bag! I absolutely love the colourā¦ I also have a tendency to spend my money on luxury goods, and treating yourself can definitely be exciting. This excitement will unfortunately wear off in time after receiving the bag though.
Although, I will say that if you have worked hard for your savings and feel as though this purchase is something worth getting, then I say get it! People should spend their money freely. I tend to find things such as alcohol and cigarettes to be a waste of money, but that is my opinion.
You only live once! Get the things that excite you!
This is a beautiful bag and anyone would love to have it, I hesitate to recommend you pull out of savings given the current situation with inflation and job security. If you do have good job security, then perhaps you do need a special treat and this would certainly be it.
The tiny feet and large handles make it a pain to set down without it falling over and if you let the handles flop out it will make dents in the leather so you need to store it carefully or use a ribbon to tie the handles together.
There will be a time, maybe 5 years from now, where youāll look at it and feel guilt for buying it because it may feel out of style. I know lady Dior never does, but you never know.
Heads-up: this bag says small but the size shown is not a small. I have a mini, small and medium. This definitely looks like the medium. Verify dimensions before you buy! I love my small one but it will literally hold a card pouch, my phone, lip balm and eye drops. The mini wonāt hold my phone.
I mean, if you're going to splurge on a designer bag, a Small Lady Dior is a lovely choice!
Classic and recognizable by those into fashion, but not super common or basic.
The color is also absolutely gorgeous!
Okay, so questions to talk you *down* from the bag lol!
- Do you love the color? Would you wear it often? Would it match your typical wardrobe?
- My understanding is that it's not meant for being the *most* functional. Also not sure if it closes securely with a zipper or lock -- if not, might be a risk if you live in a busy city area where pickpockets are a concern.
- Is splurging on this bag going to cause any issues for you financially? Or will you wish you hadn't?
If I were you I would get a high quality rep of this bag, and see how much you actually like using it, whether the style, functionality, etc suit you, and if you are really in love with it still, splurge on the real one.
I honestly feel like these bags are gonna go out of styler sooner than later. I'd say spend the
Money on a more timeless piece vs a current "it bag"āŗļø
Iām gonna disagree. I know youāre just trying to help OP but I just want to put it out there that the Lady Dior is an iconic timeless bag first created in 1995. It will never go out of style. š
I'm a 23 year old reseller in college. Think about how when you are done with it how when you go to sell people will 1: automatically think it's fake 2: call you a scam because you don't meet their offer 3: block you when you counter offer. Don't be afraid to send it you just might get it. you use two approaches ( 1 asking: what's your lowest.? / Telling: : you dont understand. I need this bag. Its my oxygen. YOU WILL GIVE ME THIS BAG! OR FEAR THE STRONG BACKHAND lol. But foreal say can I do ( insert price). Be direct. Even tell them a Morgan freemaneaque narrated backstory as to why you need it. But don't beg. EVER they aren't the only sellers in the world. ( You always have me( cough cough just saying). If they block you then oh well. They product probably stank or it was fake anyway / had bugs in it/ hiding damages.4: see something else even more luxurious but you bought that one. Before I buy something expensive I always go to lowest price and free shipping online . It's cheaper somewhere .I'm a man of assortment. I can't have one exotic wallet I need them all ( lizard, alligator, ostrich, salmon etc). 5 : can't sell it for at or around the MSRP. 6 you end up with a bunch of clutter in your house. luxury products ( high end man made materialistic things with no real value other than a person's name). The only reason it has value is because man put his price on it. Rip the label off and it's just another purse. Just saying when you go to resell. You can do what you want. Look at it from a producer pov instead of a consumer. I like things because I like things. I don't care if it was $10 or $100,000,00 .When I buy I think: can I sell this and make it back? 7: think about how much more you could have in your retirement and savings account. 8: think about how long you worked all year and then glance at that bag sitting in the closet. Just sitting there. Litterally in that same spot. The one you willingly gave your hard earned cash for. Think about it. RESELLING IS KEY TO COMBAT SPENDING Y'ALL. 9: if you do try to sell it only accept offers at or near your price and don't back down . My rule is " IF IT CAN BE SOLD IT WILL SELL".I don't care how long it takes. Because if it doesn't what's the point of all this? that should be in a school text book. The theory/ law of selling. Lol š 10: don't throw something away especially if its good and you spent money on it. THATS MY 10 SELLING COMMANDMENTS. ( BONUS )- ( YAY IF YOU READ THIS YOU MADE IT!). A GOOD SELLER WOULD RATHER LOSE A COUPLE DOLLARS AND KEEP A CUSTOMER THEN BE STINGY FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE. AND LOSE ONE. GOTTA TAKE THE GOOD, THE BAD,AND THE UGLY. THE END GOAL IS THAT GOLD ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIO GRANDE. GO FOR IT BUT BEWARE THE WARNINGS!.
EVERYONE WANNA KNOW HOW I KNOW ALL THIS? I ACTUALLY CURRENTLY WORK AT GOODWILL AS MY FIRST JOB! STARTED THERE WHEN I WAS 21. BEEN THERE FOR 3 YEARS. besides that my mom started a family business and will pass it down to me once I learn it enough. I was always into saving spare change,Roth IRA, 401k etc.
Defo worth the money if youāll be using it! It is STUNNING just fyi Iāve heard of color transfer on some of the pieces so kindly look into it!! Also, try it in store some people love it some hate it! It isnāt as easy to access
Years ago after I bought my Chanel flap and WOC bags, I had my sights set on the Lady Dior as my next luxury bag purchase. It was such a beautiful and elegant bag looking at it from afar.
When I tried it on though, there were so many sensory details that were extremely off-putting. The handles are hard-edged and cut into your hand or your arm if you try to carry the bag in the crook of your elbow. It feels heavy without anything in it. It was annoying trying to open and close the bag to take things out. I didnāt want to pay thousands for a bag that would annoy me every time I use it and I havenāt given it another thought since.

It's a gorgeous bag, but it will still be there to purchase in some firm when you're more comfortable with the purchase. Meanwhile, if you buy it while you're not feeling 100% secure about the decision you may find yourself growing disappointed or resentful of the bag. How that?
Sounds fair and mature! š
This-yes. I have had buyers remorse, hated the bag after awhile and sold it. Hold out-make it a Goal Bag. Set up savings JUST for this bag
Put that money into vanguard for a while instead and then decide. Let it work for you.
The LD is a beautiful bag and I love mine but I would not pay retail prices for them but thatās just me
I agree! And I would love a preloved LD but I can never seem to find it in this Bordeaux colour! I don't want the shiny Bordeaux either that's usually available in resale! š©
Donāt blow savings on a bag š¬
Imagine how youād feel if your car broke down and it cost $2000 to fix but you canāt afford it because you bought this.
This bad new is closer to 6k. I held and tried on that exact bag. Itās gorgeous but overpriced
Is it handmade by nuns in the Vatican? Geez.
Iām am losing my mind, Iām definitely saying this from now on!
BLIND nuns please
Right? Thatās crazy
I mean, that is how much a handmade bag would cost. You cant really find them sub 3000 Though I doubt this is hand stitched Edit: Downvoters Iād like to know where you get your hand stitched bags sub 3000. Most luxury brands donāt use hand stitching.
It's very pretty to look at, but it's a pain to actually use. Sometimes, we can admire beautiful things from afar. We don't have to own them.
Why is it a pain?
Pain to use in what way? Even the bigger one? š
There is nothing more satisfying than being in control and financially secure. Elegance is refusal. It is better to have money than to look like you have money.
It's better to have $1000 in a $10 wallet than having $10 in a $1000 wallet.
And then comforting myself saying I'm so awesome for not following the lavish lifestyle while in fact I'm just poor š¤£
I love this.
I absolutely love this. Words to live by.
The charms jangle and will constantly annoy you.
I love the charms that jingle jangle jinglem
The color is divine. I hope they make men's bag in that color.... But I'm worried about the "blow up my savings" part. If you can afford it and if you're living comfortably then by all means go for it.
Lovely bag! I have a smaller version, and while itās beautiful, I get quite annoyed by the noise of the charms clinking together. Thereās not much you can do about it. Some people love it but it can be a bit of a nuisance.
The flap is also not the most convenient opening.
Agreeā¦ I had this same bag in the rose color and sold itā¦
Iām literally at the doctorās office right now watching a lady in the waiting room with this bag and her charms are so annoying.. it also does not seem very functional, if Im being honest.
It's pretty non functional and not an everyday bag imo. It's nice enough but you would be miserable if you blew your savings for that bag that you can't even wear most days. Also it has poor resell value so I'd get it used. Do not buy that bag new.
Nothing looks and feels better than not being in debt
This^^^^
I have this bag in the grey color. Its a cute bag, but the flap part at the top is really annoying when im trying to take something out
It's a pretty bag and Dior afterall, but if you're ready to "blow" your money (savings!) for just a bag at the end of the day, then it's not worth it. I know it's tempting.
Never compromise your essential savings for something as non-essential as a handbag. They are very nice to have, but if something were to happen and you needed emergency funds, you'd really regret this. I'd say save up, and wait until you have a more sizeable safety net, then reevaluate
Here for the comments because I want it too and shouldnāt š not helpful but solidarity
Iām here for the same reason AHHA
Notebook, iPad, extra battery.....
It looks like a small diaper bag for $5,500
Itās giving Vera Bradley
Now that you said this, I canāt unsee it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree with everything you've said ā except the Lady Dior is not a trend bag. It is most definitely a classic which has remained popular for three decades now. A bag made for, and made iconic by, Princess Diana could never be called a passing trend.
Agree. It might become not on trend but it will always be wearable, and I guarantee that every 5-10 years thereāll be a nostalgia craze for LD bags because thatās just how trends cycles work
Have you tried this bag on? I used to love the LD until I tried it on at the store and realized I hated the opening so that killed the dream for me. š Personally Iād hold off until you know for sure you want to get it, regardless of the price.
That bag looks really really... uncool and grandma in that pic š This looks like a Sears/JC Penney ad š¬ so unfortunately that's all I see.
Oh god I love the lady Dior but my sister has five and they all lost their shape SO quickly. Not super amazing bags IMO but gorgeous.
Iāll never understand the appeal of this bag. Save yourself $5,500
This may pop up on resale during closer to fall season, since itās a darker color
I dont get the Lady Dior hype lol
I do think they're very pretty bags however I'm very skeptical to get one because 1) I feel like the charms will annoy me and 2) I don't attend events where wearing fancy bags is warranted; like one wedding a year isn't worth it, and I def don't feel comfortable wearing smth like this to go grocery shopping.
I want a Diorissimo, feels way more functional and I looove the smooth leather https://preview.redd.it/4r7wzklhee4d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17c885abe21351bde3e47c63bcd32e4fb60a0c56
I havenāt seen this color in the lady Dior before
As a person who ALWAYS contemplates using her sayings for a bag, donāt do it. Instead, first go see it in person if you can. I would never spend that kind of money on a bag I havenāt actually tried on and touched. You may hate it in person. And if you still love itā¦.start saving for it. You donāt want to blow your savings on a purse.
If you want me to try to talk you out of it, I have a tote full of expensive bags (gasp- I know). They were great must-haves once upon a time.
I made the mistake of trying it out for fun and now I want it too šš sorry canāt talk you out.
Yeah, donāt blow savings on bags and there are always more gorgeous bags out there.
I had a black bag exactly like that one and the leather did not hold up on the corners at all, and I babied it
Buying the bag when you can afford it feels like a celebration of your badassery. You've made it! Buying it before you can afford it feels stressful and insecure. You're taking better care of your image than of your real self. You deserve better.
The handles do now lower all the way. You have to keep them upright at all times or if they lower, they only do about 120 degrees. Looks really awkward.
I have the bag and I like it but I wouldnāt touch my savings for it!
Donāt buy this. Not worth the money. If you sell it in the future, wellā¦the resale of this is awful.
Color is very limiting
NOT WORTH THE MONEY. š āāļø
Hard no? $7000?? Ma'am please go get a $25 bag from target and pretend it is Dior.
Nooo please donāt, I say that because I made the mistake.
That bag will be around forever. Save your money.
Lady Dior is really hard to wear. It looks too formal for most outfits and too casual for evening wear. Itās a beautiful bag, but one I wish I just admired from a distance. Itās the only luxury bag I regret purchasing
The mini and micro are perfect for evening wear. The bigger sizes though, I agree. Not really sure what their function is haha.
It's REALLY hard to get things in and out of it and it scratches and hurts your hands.
The new ones don't have a zipper on top, just a flap
Do not blow your savings.
The burgundy color on this bag for some reason is my least favourite to be honest
Not worth it
The colour is lovely, but I donāt like the thick strap on it
It's detachable š„°
:) I would honestly wait for a smaller one in a similar colourway so you get a pretty strap. Theyāre not everyday bags
Dior bags lose so much value right away that I just wait for the ones I want on the preloved market.
Itās boring and popular, a brand-name status symbol rather than a beautiful piece you want for the beauty itself IMO.
Blowing savings for a bag is asinine. I donāt mean to be insulting but come on
I didnāt know they had a matte Bordeaux version, and now I canāt unknow this. I love it š Iām not a very financially responsible person, so I say as long as youāre not blowing your emergency fund out the window, go for it!
Although it doesnāt look as matte in the other pictures. Might be worth checking out in store if you can!
Hahahah, sameee! I've only seen those patent leather Bordeaux bags but this is so stunning!š
It's overdone and too trendy. You'll be bored of it in less than a year. Then it will be dated.
LMAO this bag is timeless, going strong since 1996.
Says who?
Stunning color! See if you can find it pre-loved?
Lambskin is really soft and needs to be babied. If you worry about your bag all the time whenever you take it out, you may not take it out much. And that would be a shame! Plus the flap is annoying. I bought the embroidered D-lite because Iām a sucker for embroidery but kinda wish they didnāt have that stupid flap. Itās so rigid too - it would be hard to get in and out if it without scratching the soft leather .
square edges wear badly and dont travel well packed.
It's smol.
As a purse lover with a compulsive streak and a bank account with low numbers, my trick to not screw myself over with a large purchase is this: -First, I ALWAYS look for other options from different brands (image searching helps with this!) Even if you're convinced this one is perfection, what's the harm in taking a look elsewhere? - Next, I take a 24 hour cooling off period (This is VITAL. Make sure this period is spent away from the item and obsessing over it. I'm not even gonna tell you to stop shopping, just get your mind off the specific item. Maybe you need some new sandals, focus on that for a bit and get your mind off the obsession.) -And, if after that, I'm still obsessed, I'll find a way to get a discount (through first time purchases, email subscriber discounts, and waiting until holidays for sale events (Father's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day are the upcoming U.S. holidays that sales usually run on) Either way, when you're over come with the urge to click purchase or swipe your card, always check the return policy! Happy handbag hunting!
It wonāt fit a lot at all. Itās beautiful but it might not be the most practical/usable and I have also heard that the opening is not the most usable. Q
It looks gorgeous š What type of leather is this? Maybe it is more susceptible to damage? Also, before making a purchase, you can check it out in the store. It might not look as good.
Please follow the sage advice given. Set up a special savings, put the money in a CD and keep adding. Then when you are close to the price from the earnings on the money, buy it with your earnings.
Donāt blow your savings on a bag. Live within your means. Set up a saving account just for the bag if you really want it, but at the end of the day, itās still just a bag š¤·š½āāļøš¤·š½āāļøš¤·š½āāļø
I have this bag, bought several years ago and wearing in rare cases. Itās not practical for me! Thinking to sell!
The letters clack around and make an annoying sound sometimes!
I wear mine with jeans or bike boots - it's black, seriously goes with anything š
the idea is to talk OP out of it lol
I know, but if you already *have* one, you must use it šā¤ļøā¤ļø
I have a black Prada that I use all the time instead. I honestly should just sell the Lady Dior because it just doesnāt fit my fashion vibe but I never keep the bag or the little card etc so I figure I canāt get what itās worth.
Check your savings. After you buy the bag, would you have a sufficient amount left in case you or your loved one gets sick? Or in case you lose your job, will there be enough money to cover your needs and bills until you find a new job? If the answer to any of these questions is no, donāt buy the bag. Thatās what I tell myself in such moments.Ā
Get a used one for under 2k
Get it on resale - ShopThing, Whatnot are the best two
Sheās cute but wonāt work every season with this color!
You just said talk you out of it š
yeah this bag isnāt going anywhere. just wait until youāre ready.
Itās beautiful I agree. Dont blow money on it. Set up a savings for it.
Not now. It's really cute, but....also found as a dupe. There is better out there that will be more affordable that will resonate with you. The fact you posted means this is not The One. :)
Maybe you can buy it used but I think it looks so cute šššš„°
If this bag is less than 2.5% of your annual after tax income, then get it. If it's more, don't.
Do you need anything? Can you get by with what you already have? Can you style all of your existing bags to reignite your interest in them?
THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THE "PART OF MY SAVINGS" BIT! OMG šš
I agree, invest itā¦. You will resent and regret it later if you buy the purse
I have a rule, which is the highest I will go is 199.00
Sorry but I canāt help you! I tried? Lol
I can source it for you at resale. Obviously authentic.
THE COLOUR OMG
Thank you all! šš
Thred up
I had lady dior bags fro 2010-2016 , I used to have like 5-6 of those A d after that I sold it. reason; too delicate. color transfer easily, scuffing around the corner . the value dropped tremendously.
That color is gorgeous!!!! Sorry, not the response you are looking for but it really is so pretty!
Blow sounds like a big portion of your savings. If itās not less than 5% of your net worth, donāt bother.
The tiny feet and large handles make it a pain to set down without it falling over and if you let the handles flop out it will make dents in the leather so you need to store it carefully or use a ribbon to tie the handles together.
I know Iām in the minority, but I think this bag is so ugly š¬
There will be a time, maybe 5 years from now, where youāll look at it and feel guilt for buying it because it may feel out of style. I know lady Dior never does, but you never know.
That GHW will tarnish in no time
You will barely wear it unless you want to look like you want to get robbed and then actually get robbed and lose the 5k the bag is worth /:
$5k is an insane amount for a bag that is not a neutral color. Especially a Dior.
If I were you I would get a high quality rep of this bag, and see how much you actually like using it, whether the style, functionality, etc suit you, and if you are really in love with it still, splurge on the real one.
I honestly feel like these bags are gonna go out of styler sooner than later. I'd say spend the Money on a more timeless piece vs a current "it bag"āŗļø
Itās too dangerous to wear in public at the moment. Someone will rob you for this bag. Just save your money.
