I would speculate that that plane did not start life looking like that. There was likely a wood infill at the back in the hollow under the rounded part. I base this on the fact that that pin running across the plane body has no purpose otherwise. Also, I wonder if the curved part is original. The whole thing is a bit bonkers.
The curved bit at the back where it looks like you would place your plan seems to be friction fitted to that pin there was also a screw that allowed for the curved bit to be adjusted
I can't help you, but just wanting to say that's a very cool looking little plane. I'm a sucker for a nice brass and wood combo, no matter what it is

Looks like a chariot plane. No idea on the maker, but it's an interesting design.
The only thing i can tell is that it is a low angle plane, looks like a low angle block plane
