An 8 mana spell for the orb seems neat, i like that You can play it proactively ,it doesnt sit in your hand doing nothing if youre up against a slow deck with no board
Hopefully with the new support, Dj manastorm, the keyboard, artificer and volley/projection orb Big spell mage could be a thing, i love this kind of deck.
I genuinely think is has a good chance of succeeding in the upcoming meta.
If Paladin ends up with a good early game minion package, like they tend to do, I can see Mage using their tourist to yoink a Paladin early game while using big spells as their top end.
And we get a 3 mana 3/3 taunt that summons a copy of itself if You have a spell that costs 5 or more in hand.deff helps against aggro i think, i just hope it's playable cause sif is stale af to me after 3 expansions and i don't like no Minion burn😭
I got up to D1 playing exclusively Reno Mage with Volley and Orb this month until I dropped back down to D3. Orb definitely has potential.
Keyboard is OK sometimes but is often too slow in the early-mid game and in the late game an extra 10/10 or two or two doesn't really turn the tides as much as you would hope.
I'm not saying anything is OP needs nerfed, but it's going to feel absolutely terrible when it eventually does happen because one class is OP with cards from another, and that other class is ok at best with what they have.
One small thing. Unlike dual class cards that you change for one class and accept the other one gets affected too, there is at least a small other bonus balancing tool of the actual tourist card. If druid is too OP because of the mage cards, you could nerf the druid tourist card instead of the mage cards (or do both allowing for a more minor nerf of the mage card) to try and reduce the impact on mage.
I know it's not gonna be that important or likely to massively affect balancing but at least it is another tool they could use for minor power outliers.

I understand the rules, I just don’t get the reasoning behind it.
Why does druid have access to these cards specifically? Why should druid get water elementals, AoE damage, big spell synergy (this one I can kinda see) and more mage cards. Druid is very far from mage mechanics-wise.
It feels like the tourist classes were chosen arbitrarily even though I’m sure that wasn’t the case. I’m reserving judgment until I see the whole set though.
I think that why they are TOURISTS
They are exploring new things to them, like being a class that doesnt have a lot of things in common with their original class
The tourists generally visit classes that play very different, and honestly, if they visited similar classes that would just make them too strong. Like imagine if Mage visited Priest and Priest visited Warlock
So what makes a spell a Nature spell? [[Earthquake]], [[Whirlpool]], and [[Landslide]] are Nature spells, which are all natural occurences. But Tsunami is a Frost spell?
Similarly, [[Tidal Wave]] is a Nature spell, while Rising Waves isn't? This just seems like inconsistency to me.
They don't want to give Mage nature spells and it's extremely relevant.
They could have made Rising Water like... "Chilling Tides" or something and made it frost probably, though, might have been better flavour.
It's warcraft lore related. Mage frost magic is different from shaman frost and death knight frost. Mages draw upon the arcane and chill the kinetic energy, shamans call upon the elements, and DKs draw their magic from the runes on their weapons.
Balance matters for sure, but consistency also matters
If the designers didn't want rising waves to be a nature or frost spell, they shouldn't flavoured it as something that clearly should be at least either of those

Tsunami is casted by Mages, who don't control Nature magic but can conjure Water Elementals with Frost magic. If you look it's also less of a natural Tsunami and more of "I summon 3 Water Eles that crush you"
If I had to guess, they don't want to give Mage a Nature spell because of Rainbow Mage, plus Mage historically gets Frost, Fire, and Arcane anyways. The only compromise of this currently in standard is Chaos Creation which is a Fel spell, but is so comically bad for Mage that it's barely worth mentioning.
I’ve wished for a while now that they’d do “reprints” of base cards with new art that you could choose which art to use in the collection manager, I thought the new Paladin hp tokens were an indication of things to come but at least for now players have no control over which versions are summoned. Heck, why not bundle and sell “reprints” of core set cards for one or two classes per expansion? A man can dream
That's amazing, thanks. I was wondering if I'm crazy or have vision issues because I could not read the picture at all. No top comment mentions it and instead people discuss the cards, but I cannot even discen what they do.
Tsunami is a great addition to Mage's spell pool.
Honestly, it's surprising how the best way to make good spells at a high cost is to just make them both build a board and do damage at the same time.
I'm a little surprised they gave water elemental new art.
Setting aside signature reimaginings (old gods, league of explorers, etc.) and the "nerfs" to cards like secret keeper and succubus, I can't recall them ever doing this.
Tsunami is a "cooler" (albeit more random) [[Deep Freeze]]. Cephalopod is one third of [[Sheldras Moontree]] 's effect, but on a much better body.
A little reminder that Druid can also use Mage's cards, so they can use Cephalopod to relive Sheldras's glory days
/s.
Mage has a WAY better spell pool for "casts when drawn" random targets than Druid did with Sheldras. With a way bigger immediate impact.
Now Druid's pool has... Crystal Cluster's not bad. Woodland Wonders is okay.
I expect Druid to get at least one good new big spell, though. Maybe.
Water Elemental has low key always been pretty great. 4 attack isn't especially meaningfully more than 3, and 6 health is meaningfully more than 5. So it's just this fat early-mid game minion that stops the opponent from attacking with their hero if they can't deal with it.
I don't think it's ever been in the core set, though, so it hasn't actually been in the game for years.
Tsunami is amazing! Great board control tool, great tempo play, and even good burn option against an empty board, as it is basically deal 9 damage to the opponent and summon 3 Water Elementals.
This card together with the new Mage legendary is such a great combo, and in a general this card is a premium spell to cheat out if big spell Mage sees any play.
Really excited to play Mage after so many shitty themes they have given to the class lately.

I don’t really like the big spell mage play patterns, but these are really cool and exciting cards on their own.
I’m going to hate all of them real fast.
Oh man.. seeing big spell mage have a potential to be good is really cool but terrifying. Last time it was a thing, it was with Balindra, and people HATED it and how it felt like a scam deck but now we have King Tide to cheat our a big spells AND potential Loatheb our opponent. If this deck is good, people are gonna get super upset and we're gonna have another Sif situation :((
Ehhh, this feels less scammy than Balinda. One of the big things with Balinda was she was a big fat body on top of cheating out big spells.
Also Rune of the Archmage was way more degenerate than Tsunami or Volley or even Orb.
It feels less scammy but instead has a chance to fully Loatheb your opponent as you cast your Tsunami or Voley. Here's my prediction. If this deck is good, nerfs will be called upon it and it'll be neutered to an irrelevant state. If it's bad, then we've got another Fractured in Alterac Valley situation where the deck is painfully mid AND scammy at the same time, leaving us praying that past archetypes carry the class until mini set/next expansion.. and mage right now is pretty darn scuffed, sadly. :(
Oh, also Balinda didn't let your opponent cast their big spell for cheap. So there's a risk involved. Even if it's often disruptive instead.
I think this is easier to balance than Alterac's big spell package. It really was hard carried by Rune of the Archmage just cheating games. That was just so much value. Tsunami can win you a game for sure, but it's not doing 20 mana worth of stuff. Sunset Volley can totally mess up too if you get a bad damage spread. Drakefire Amulet could super high roll and put so many damn stats on the board. Like I think that's the big difference. The big spell pool just isn't as crazy.
I would 100% agree with most of the classes in the game when it comes to balancing, excepting the egregious stuff but when it comes to mage balancing, I no longer trust them with how messy the past few sets have been, both from power level and design. As for the big spells we've got now.. yeah, they're far less scammy, that's for sure. Still not sure where this is gonna land but after seeing the new cards.. I'm gonna need to pray for this stuff to be good and not get nerfed lmao.
Why does Tsunami specify that the Water Elementals Freeze? Seems weird, I think that might like that on some other cards too but it's still strange to me.
Thoughts on under the sea? The name / flavor seem to have 0 correlation to the effect, and there’s only one spell here that actually costs more than if.
And this is why dual class is horribly imbalanced.
Druid now has 2 new forms of aoe that makes them busted. When a druid ramps into tsnumai is gg for alot of aggro decks if they even manage to survive the new 3 mana deal 4 aoe.
I bet my whole account that every single card that gets nerf is gonna be because the dual class partner abuses more then the class it was truly designed for
Well actually... speaking of the Yogg spell, Tsunami existing does make it better. (The big spell pool is so tiny that one good new big spell makes a meaningful difference)
It can be good but it does hit random targets so it may hit the same thing twice, and there’s been stronger spells (puzzle box of yogg saron, pre nerf wheel of death was powerful, ultimate infestation was one of the best cards for Druid for a long time, if big spells are 5 or more then time warp literally broke wild for years, as a quest reward) it’s good but not the best ever, though it will help against many swarm decks or weapon decks, it also has the issue of losing hard to bigger units without more support.
Puzzle Box was crazy because of it's insane potential swings and comeback so yeah it'll stay as one of the best big spells ever printed, but in most cases I'd take Tsunami over it especially with it costing 2 less mana.
As for UI, big spell mage is usually not a deck with which your hand gets empty so I also think Tsunami is better in most cases.
Jaina at one point almost made a tsunami to commit genocide, its cool that we can finally experiance that on this vacation
Jaina also slaughtered an entire city of civilians and blizzard still treats her like a princess Edit, I saw that vanwergh, consider yourself judged
which one?
Dalaran, during mists of pandaria I believe, after a blood elf helped garrosh steal the bell. It was an event jaina was walking around the city with two water elementals out, killing any horde members in sight. My memory of it could be a bit off, cause it's been a long time, but it was crazy at the time and is basically never mentioned again
wasnt that a handfull of blood elves and the rest were exiled? the exiling was definitely mentioned again by, i believe, Kael'thas
It was any and all horde members in the city, as a horde character you're running around trying to save people while avoiding her
i refreshed on it she went around to arrest every sunreaver and other horde citisens, those who resisted was attacked, those who didnt resist were imprisoned
"those who didn't consent to being arrested for someone else's actions" were killed
you dont "consent" to being arrested, arrested is by definition against someones will its also not abnormal for harsh actions be taken during a war, The Sunreavers chose the horde over Dalaran and still Traumaticed Jaina was trying to make Dalaran a city detatched from the war
The game pretty obviously wanted you to think it was over the top and Jaina was going a little crazy. Even if you were playing Alliance and participating in the killing / arrests the vibe was very much "are we the baddies?"
I mean you're right but I didn't exactly have the right word for too afraid to run away from the angry blonde shooting ice from her hands so you'd rather go to jail for something you didn't do. Defending arresting /killing a tailor because someone wearing the same uniform as them did something bad is crazy.

I addressed this choice of wording in another post
Sunreavers we’re technically expats, the city expelling them when it goes to war with the horde is far from unusual behavior for any nation.
They were canonically kicked out of the city. Some fought back and were killed, but she didn’t recklessly slaughter everyone
No, the Horde members were expelled. None other than the Sunreavers (blood elves) were punished; imprisoned or killed if they defied her orders.
That's absolutely not how I remember it. And by punished you have to mean killed.
That's exactly what I said. Those that attacked Jaina were killed. If you are not sure, go to the wiki and search Purge of Dalaran. Jaina teleports those that do not fight to the Violet Hold.
Honey this is peoples homes, they weren't the criminals. Jaina arrested anyone wearing red and killed those that didn't consent. That's a war crime I'm all but certain
She kills YOU during the scenario, because you are an openly horde operative and Dalaran just declared war on the horde. She teleports the civilians away to jail.
It was her retaliation to Gary's Mana Bombing of Theramore. And much like in real life, if you harbor people doing acts of war while being a foreign dignitary, you get kicked out.
I mean she also went on a rampage of dalaran after the bombing too..
Nope, she almost nuked Orgrimmar, but didn’t do anything in Dal.
Because she's blizzards princess
Elsa
Elsa has white hair because shes a disney ~~Villain~~ Jaina has white hair because she was strafed by a magic nuke
She did not slaughter an entire city of civilians, she killed and jailed a couple people and forced many to flee because she believed they were aiding the genocidal maniac who just dropped a nuke on her people. horde players always treating themselves like victims like the blood elves arent a broken, desperate race that fucks shit up and forsaken literally make chemical weapons that make all races suffer
Not since Battle for Azeroth. She's bffs with Thrall again now.
Blizzard absolutely treats jaina like a princess. I've played every expac, on both sides. Jaina literally gets away with murder, she's a sylvanas treated like a Lorewalker cho
Jaina and Sylvanas are not comparable at all in terms of body count or evil actions
I'd say they are since whichever blood elf was serving the Jailer clearly wasn't the banshee queen
The only difference between jaina and sylvanas is that sylvanas has been at it for years, jaina has only had a couple expac. She's a genocidal maniac treated like a child being bullied

Yeah nvm you're just trolling. Her homeland got destroyed and she wanted revenge but ultimately was reasoned with, she is not any of the things you say lol
Civilians =/= filthy horde scum
you keep using that word ( genocide) i dont think it means what you think it means.
she was gonna destroy all of Ogrimar, the city state of the horde, women and children included, for the sake of killing the horde
I meant that genocide usually refers to humans, im sure theres another word for animals.

This was Priest being punished for Druid’s sins with the last set of dual class cards
And [[Guardian Animals]] getting nerfed for being too good in Druid while it was marginally playable in Hunter

What is class identity again?
Oh crap…
Tourists lowkey a Reno buff
I keep wondering if the tourists are gonna make sense once we see them in game
its not that abstract if you put your tourist legendary in your deck you can then also use that coresponding class's PiP cards in your deck
I guess it would’ve made more sense lore-wise if the Druid Tourist card was Jaina so it’s her making all the water elementals in Druid-land
except the tourist has to be from the faction they are comming from
I think that why they are TOURISTS They are exploring new things to them, like being a class that doesnt have a lot of things in common with their original class
The tourists generally visit classes that play very different, and honestly, if they visited similar classes that would just make them too strong. Like imagine if Mage visited Priest and Priest visited Warlock
The reasoning is because the Druid tourist went to go visit the Mage part of the resort, and they bought a bunch of souvenirs to play with.
What don't you get? It's quite a simple concept.
This just seems like inconsistency to me.
because mage doesnt have nature spells and this is technically a water elemental spell which have historically been frost
I mean, neither does priest, except Whirlpool.
Balance matters for sure, but consistency also matters If the designers didn't want rising waves to be a nature or frost spell, they shouldn't flavoured it as something that clearly should be at least either of those
already breaking the standard with two shadow spells and mage currently has a spellschool set
Maybe it was mostly balance decision not to give Rising Waves any spell school like they did with [[Rune of the Archmage]] back in the day?
Of course it is! Makes much more sense to give mage freeze spells.

Tsunami is casted by Mages, who don't control Nature magic but can conjure Water Elementals with Frost magic. If you look it's also less of a natural Tsunami and more of "I summon 3 Water Eles that crush you"
Frost spells are just really cold nature spells.
It’s so that mini dude can discover it for other classes.
Looking at the spell's effect this doesn't seem to be an actual, natural Tsunami to me but one by Water Elementals conjured up through Frost Magic.
The 3 mana aoe for druid is nice
Druid getting access to board clears and freeze is a bit spooky
And direct damage too.
We take it
Surprised they didn't just reuse water elemental art
I’ve wished for a while now that they’d do “reprints” of base cards with new art that you could choose which art to use in the collection manager, I thought the new Paladin hp tokens were an indication of things to come but at least for now players have no control over which versions are summoned. Heck, why not bundle and sell “reprints” of core set cards for one or two classes per expansion? A man can dream
Alternate art like in mtg would be amazing...
Could even do some panorama style like in Gwent (I guess Colossal cards already did that)

I guess signature spells are a thing now
They really want Big Spell Mage to be a thing. As someone who recently got Orb from a pack, I'm all for it.
Tsunami and Rising Waves go right into my highlander spell mage deck.
Tsunami is a great addition to Mage's spell pool. Honestly, it's surprising how the best way to make good spells at a high cost is to just make them both build a board and do damage at the same time.
New Water Elemental art is cool too
signature tsunami looks great, reminds me of those jp exclusive artworks of mtg cards
A little reminder that Druid can also use Mage's cards, so they can use Cephalopod to relive Sheldras's glory days /s.

Maybe.
Water elemental looks broken AF.
It's been in the game for years
Water Elemental has low key always been pretty great.
Seems like a playable package, will be nice to have a new mage archetype introduced to the meta after a year of rainbow mage (and spell mage recently)
I’m not a huge Mage fan, but for some reason these seem super cool to me and the art is really fun.

How does cast when drawn work? Does the card still stay in your hand able to be played again?
Nope. It plays the card immediately. You do not get the card and it does not cost mana.

Oh man.. seeing big spell mage have a potential to be good is really cool but terrifying.

Did they just reprint water elemental???
Token art
Thoughts on under the sea? The name / flavor seem to have 0 correlation to the effect, and there’s only one spell here that actually costs more than if.
The thing I'm getting is they're making Signature Spells.
Under the Sea is so comically bad it's incredible. Glad the rest of them look fun as hell though.
Noooooooo. My spectral cutlass rogue…
Signature spell?
Finally we get Water Elemental
Finally board control for Druid
Can I get some more pixels?
Can I get some more pixels?
Do you have a picture with even less pixel ? we can still read a bit here
I don’t like that they changed the look of the water elemental, not everything needs to be modernized
Not changing, just tokens
And this is why dual class is horribly imbalanced. Druid now has 2 new forms of aoe that makes them busted. When a druid ramps into tsnumai is gg for alot of aggro decks if they even manage to survive the new 3 mana deal 4 aoe. I bet my whole account that every single card that gets nerf is gonna be because the dual class partner abuses more then the class it was truly designed for
Is it just me or do all of these seem bad for both classes? (with the exception of the 3 mana aoe)

Well actually... speaking of the Yogg spell, Tsunami existing does make it better. (The big spell pool is so tiny that one good new big spell makes a meaningful difference)
Holy shit Tsunami has to be the best big spell printed ever
Rune of the Archmage is definitely better, but Tsunami is a good card.
Water elemental a new Card?
