Note: Hades didn’t actually kidnap Persephone in the original myth. Hades asked Zeus for Persephone’s hand in marriage, Zeus agreed and then proceeded to *forget to tell literally anyone*. Hades thought all of it was settled and agreed to by all parties, Zeus just fucked up
Or perhaps…
Unexpected text from Persephone “I have to get out of here. These shapechanging sex-fiends are driving me crazy! Can I hide out at your place for 6 months or so?”
In the original mythos it's very much a kidnapping followed by arguable Stockholm syndrome but *maybe* genuine affection towards Hades.
That said, Hades isn't really a bad guy in Greek mythology - or at least, no worse than any other god. He's just doing his job, mostly, except for kidnapping Persephone.
IIRC Hades is one of the fairest gods in greek mythology. He lets Orpheus’s wife go with him out of the underworld, for example, with a challenge which Orpheus failed to do so. Other gods would just go around punishing mortals for fun
Except Nemesis, he would go around punishing mortals who expressly deserved it. And in karmically justified ways. Example: He’s the one who made Narcissus fall in love with himself.
I think this is meant to be Hades because of the ‘Persephone’ thing. But yeah it fits more with Thanatos or just the grim reaper since I don’t even think Thanatos looked like that
Thank you!! I've always been into Greek mythology, and I have always loved Persephone the most! I hope my daughter loves her middle name and I hope she likes it's origin
Haha I appreciate you holding back for a fear of ruining the name for me! Chances are I know whatever it is you're going to say though. Like I said I'm a big fan and I know a lot of the mythology is quite awful at times 😬 Still the name means a lot to me and hopefully when my daughter hears why I picked it and why I think Persephone is so great she'll think of that instead of some of the more problematic mythology when she leaves eventually learns about that. That's my hope anyway haha
Hades only kidnapped her in some versions of the myth, and it was her mom/her being gone that created the seasons. Hades had no care about earthly seasons.
Depends on your version of the myth. The usual art for marriage and kidnapping in greek mythology is the exact same. That’s the thing about mythology; each story isn’t just one story. It’s a huge amount of different stories told by an evolving culture with similar themes.
I like the relationship between Hades and Persephone, I definitely ship them, but making it out like the start of their relationship was anything other than a kidnapping isn’t accurate at all lol
Your website covers the top of the comic on mobile. Can't read the top line of the speech bubble. Just letting you know.

*christianity*
Hades: I really like her, but I just don’t know how to approach her. Zeus: Just kidnap her. It always works for me. Hades: …get out of my realm
Hades, a little bit later: maybe just a *little* kidnapping...
Or perhaps… Unexpected text from Persephone “I have to get out of here. These shapechanging sex-fiends are driving me crazy! Can I hide out at your place for 6 months or so?”

From what little I recall of Hades, he generally seemed chill unless you tried to cheat him, mess with his dog or attempted to steal his wife.
Seems relatable. I would be mad in those case too
Have you actually read the original myth
Well the ORIGINAL myth has many parts cut out that have been lost to time if I remember correctly
Oh yeah definitely, shit’s old as hell lmao
If I remember correctly, the myth goes out of its way to make clear that Zeus had set up the kidnapping and basically tricked Hades into it
Poor Death/Thanatos. I hope it works out for them!

Ah which one didn't.
Pretty sure this is hades

i'm rooting for him!
Too cute!!! My daughter's middle name is going to be Persephone after the Greek goddess herself :)
Persephone is such a cool name ngl
Thank you!! I've always been into Greek mythology, and I have always loved Persephone the most! I hope my daughter loves her middle name and I hope she likes it's origin
I really want to tell you something but I feel like it’ll ruin the name for you lmao

Watch out or that Hades might try to kidnap her and make the 4 yearly seasons
Hades only kidnapped her in some versions of the myth, and it was her mom/her being gone that created the seasons. Hades had no care about earthly seasons.
I mean, [there's always the pomegranate option...](https://youtu.be/cHhvEiYgkqA)
This becomes a lot less cuter when you learn Hades ended up kidnapping Persephone
In some versions it a kidnapping. In others, Persephone actually comes to Hades first to seek asylum.
Depends on your version of the myth. The usual art for marriage and kidnapping in greek mythology is the exact same. That’s the thing about mythology; each story isn’t just one story. It’s a huge amount of different stories told by an evolving culture with similar themes.
That is actually an interesting point. The kidnapping one was the one I heard in school though and I had no idea about how marriage was depicted.
I can assure you he just helped her escape an abusive parent
Bro at this rate you are going to have to kidnap her
Why does Hades look like the grim reaper tho lol. Though yeah, Hades straight up kidnapped her.
Well if you can’t ask em, take ‘em. Amirite?
And here you see why he opted for kidnapping in the end.
It’s not as wholesome when you realize incest is involved. Persephone was Hades’ niece.
All the Greek gods were related, basically. It's all incest up and down Olympus.
Yeah, I know.
You cut off the last panel where Hades kidnaps Persephone and forces her to be with him.
This guy chooses the bad ending in every game they play
I like the relationship between Hades and Persephone, I definitely ship them, but making it out like the start of their relationship was anything other than a kidnapping isn’t accurate at all lol

If you tap the comic, the bar should go away (and this is webtoons, not anyone's personal website, so there's not much op can do, lol)
Great.

Sure, I understand that I can circumvent it. Just letting you know since it's probably an issue for others.
I didn't write the myth. It wasn't my choice.

He’s a better god than almost every other Greek gods though, even taking into account the kidnapping. Greek gods are messed up
It wasn’t a kidnapping in all versions. In some, Persephone actually comes to Hades first to seek asylum.
He drugged her with pomegranate.
In the kidnapping version, yes. In other versions, Persephone knowingly and willingly ate pomegranate seeds from the underworld.
Aww hes gonna steal her heart; and also the rest of her.
Just give her some pomegranate.
I still remember that idea when persephone uses Pvz to fight the underworld zombies
