the-big-aa

Not for nothing, shout out Brent Faiyaz for putting the kid on and finding his YWA. Million Dollar Baby was a grower since [Upset](https://youtu.be/sSudJNPsxAc?si=EfEjh6mm4BR52PtA) feels like the high quality version of it but it does stand on its own. I do fuck with the snippet and I can’t wait to hear the whole song in between *Why Lawd*

Hiplobster123

Upset is so fucking good

Odysseus_Lannister

That song has been on repeat for the last several weeks

slfoifah

I like your style but I know that you're the wooooooooorst

ShawnBrogan

Everyone likes to hate on top 40 but million dollar baby is a bop. Let’s see if he can follow up.

TomPearl2024

The snippet of this song sounds even catchier than Million Dollar Baby, I've listened to it like 30+ times lol

ansonexanarchy

I WORK TOO HARD CAN YA FUCKIN PAY ME 🗣️🗣️🗣️

BrrangAThang

I'm not no Travis baby not no Chase B

destroDon

Ehh it’s not that I don’t like the song, it’s good, I just feel like I can’t go 30 minutes without it popping up. Which makes me hate it lol

Thekrispywhale

Everyone slept on his album Alligator. Electrify Tonight was one of my most played songs last year and I’m glad he’s getting some recognition

TheHandSFX

Electrify Tonight is SO good.

pacman404

did he make the beat for that song? because thats very obviously what made that song hit...i genuinely dont know if he made the whole thing or just sang his part

NicholasRG

it's a great beat but I think you're kidding yourself if you think Richman's vocals didn't play a part in the song's success. producers: Max Vossberg, Jonah Roy (who’s worked with Richman a number of times previously), Kavi (Izaya Tiji and Ken Carson), Mannyveli, and Sparkheem

RafiakaMacakaDirk

sparkheem 🫡

pacman404

He's a talented dude for sure, but not placing the fact that this song broke through on those producers is kind of absurd.

NicholasRG

just my opinion, but there's plenty of phenomenal beats that never blow up even a fraction of the level of Million Dollar Baby

Ok_Raisin7772

everybody knows that not every good song blows up, that doesn't really say anything about why this song did blow up.

adrian123484

surprised to see an izaya mention here

duckinradar

No real feelings one way or the other. But this ain’t hip hop

NSEVENTEEN

its neo funk, hes signed to brent faiyaz

bruhstevenson

Definitely seems influenced by him. Not a bad thing at all though, I like what I’ve heard from him thus far

Nearby-End-6048

So clearly you’re feeling a certain way lol

anormaldoodoo

I'm curious what his influences are, such a Southern taste in beats, but even more interesting as hell with the falsettos and shit.

Radiant_gladiator

That song made me realize that being 27 years old means I have old ears now. I don’t understand how anyone likes that song.

ositola

I would have liked it more if I didn't hear it on 2,936,827,926 social media posts first

OMBERX

It's just not your song

JohnnySnark

Idk, I'm 37 and a fan of million dollar baby

tythousand

I’m 30 and I love it

DanteBaker

I’m in my early thirties and that song bangs to hell and back, it’s just your ears

robofarmer177642069

Damn, really? I'm 32 and that shit is perfection. Like it's so catchy, it feels like it might actually be ai or something.

ShawnBrogan

I’m 32. Most Top 40 is indeed shit. I like this one tho.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MisterSassyJenkins

I’m afraid to ask you who you listen to because I knows it’s gonna be a lame, nerdy list

robofarmer177642069

You know it's going be Eminem and Logic or some shit like that lol.

VanillaSkittlez

I only like *real lyricists* like Eminem, Logic, and Hopsin 😤

psilocybin_sky

It’s not far off from the pharrell/neptunes/timberlake sound

ansonexanarchy

I thought the exact same thing the first 10 times I heard it

klutchjones

im 27 and I bop that shit hard

LongTimesGoodTimes

If it doesn't feature Jay Z I don't want it

Gavina4444

Bitch I’m the truth

rulerBob8

“Is Hova atheist? I never fucked with True Religion” is one my favorite goofy Jay bars lol

Golden_d1ck

Haha one of my favorites is “daaaaaaamn daniel, fbi keep bringing them all white vans through”

Nature_Crunch

Funny. A lot of people didn’t like that line when it first dropped. The thought was it was a forced, meme reference. I’ve always found it enjoyable too though.

Golden_d1ck

It is absolutely a forced cheesy meme reference, but for some reason it’s still good to me. 😂

literallyacactus

One of my fave J verses on that joint

Golden_d1ck

So good

Winter-Olive-5832

d'evil is a lie

PaxDinero

...i like his other song for one...

Pingushagger

Whole lotta “thing me and my friends don’t like is popular, something fishy is going on” in this thread.

DropWatcher

Yeah you never really see if it the other way where something blows up and people accept it Best case scenario is the thread is overpowered by people saying this sub is out of touch for being late to something

40ozkiller

Plenty of people just get in their car and listen to whatever is playing on the radio

haseo111

song is painfully pushed fucking everywhere you cannot make a Spotify radio in anything hiphop without the song being in the first 4 shown

krazyatack321

Yeah Spotify has been pretty good about autoplaying similar songs but this fucking song gets queued up no matter what I'm listening to.

DistortedAudio

I actually think over the past 5 years this has been a big problem with Spotify’s shuffle or auto play. You can clearly see the songs that are getting pushed because they show up every single time auto play starts. Like I love Isaiah Rashad’s “Lay Wit Ya” but I’ve heard that song more times from auto play than me queueing it up.

ajd271

I LOVE ISAIAH RASHAW!!!

DorphinPack

The song that isn’t even out yet? Or the other Tommy Richman song that’s incredibly popular 😂

DRxCarbine

Yeah this comment is v confusing

40ozkiller

“Why is a top 40 hip hop song in my top 40 hip hop radio, industry plant??” Its literally a record labels job to make sure their artists music is in those playlists.

osmnaos3

Yes, they’re inflating its streaming numbers by immediately playing it after not like us

koopa28

It’s almost like they’re playing two incredibly popular songs back to back Not everything is a psyop

40ozkiller

How dare these professional recording artists use their major record label’s to push their music??

dat_waffle_boi

I think it’s because those are two of the hottest songs out rn rather than just inflating streaming numbers

40ozkiller

Everyone’s an armchair conspiracy theorist these days.

Beneficial_Candle_10

He’s independent my guy. Who tf is they.

MontanaMane5000

Was independent. He’s signed now. Thats why the song popped off, it was a push.

Beneficial_Candle_10

He’s been signed to an independent record label since 2023 whatchu talking about? He doesn’t have a major deal.

MontanaMane5000

I have a friend who got a verse from him last year and was gone put the song out this summer. Tommy contacted him and said he can’t release the song “because I’m signed now”

Erin_Boone

Funny they did the exact same thing with not like us last month

tenacious-g

Turns out songs that are extremely popular are placed higher in playlists. Wild.

haseo111

dude if im trying to put a radio on for goddamn Rick Ross im not tryna here that shit

cultshitposts

yes but backwards

onelove101

Nah there’s something fishy going on, it’s getting pushed into playlists that aren’t even close to it in genre. Condescending ass answers get upvotes tho

tenacious-g

The song blew up on TikTok, it’s not any fishier than anyone else who has blown up on social media the past 10-15 years. It’s truly that simple. Justin Bieber blew up on YouTube doing covers. Shawn Mendes was a Vine star. Post Malone uploaded White Iverson on SoundCloud and got a record deal. TikTok clips and teases are what makes a hit now. He also smartly released a distorted bass blown version that emulated the teaser clips from the studio that people begged for.

onelove101

I’m not saying the popularity of the song is fishy, just the way it is appearing on unrelated playlists generated for unrelated genres.

BrrangAThang

It's because it's Spotify and their radios aren't tailored to the song/artist you choose it's tailored to the genre and this song in genre bending and fits into hip-hop. Crazy that this isn't a conspiracy to get you to listen to the song it's just basic algorithm technology.

sasukeluffy

Then why is this song playing first after listening to a playlist of drum n bass and other similar genres?

onelove101

And let me guess, every song after that actually fits in the genre of the playlist and million dollar baby is also always the FIRST song being played on it. Idk why people are trying to gaslight us. If it was just a genre bending song it wouldn’t be literally first every time and be the only song that is a strange and unnatural fit in every D&B, R&B, and soul playlist when every other song fits

astronxxt

it’s not a bad thing to be condescending when you’re replying to a needlessly conspiratorial and stupid comment.

onelove101

Is it really a big insane conspiracy that Spotify would push a certain song onto people’s playlists inorganically? I feel like that’s tame compared to other business practices we hear about all the time

astronxxt

no but i think some people just get tired of everything having to be a conspiracy, rage bait, inauthentic, etc on the internet. it kinda takes the fun out of everything. that stuff definitely happens but it’s hard when it’s applied to almost anything.

ashtonishing18

Literally day one I was losing my mind wondering why his song kept coming on. Now I never want to hear anything from him again.

DropWatcher

The way algorithms work it boosts stuff that a lot of people are listening to. You can turn off autoplay I don’t use that stuff personally

ashtonishing18

That's a good idea. Spotify did this to me with Drake last year because of autoplay and then bam..he was my #4 most played artist.

Crtbb4

Fr. I actually really liked million dollar baby at first, but it just feels so forced on me now I never want to listen to it anymore.

TetrisTech

This song isn’t out

neojgeneisrhehjdjf

The Spotify algorithm in general is fucking horrible and has made me fucking hate this person. The song is fine I guess but constantly trying to force me to listen to something that isn’t for me when I have already hit the “dislike” button has truly ruined it for me.

chickentalk_

if you like this you need to listen to Rocci and Ramirez’ Playas Manual basically resurrected the falsetto vibes in hip hop years before this shit. you’ll dig it

lemonchicken91

Rocci has some amazing vocals and production. His solo stuff is solid too

koopa28

A lot of underground dorks in here. Those of us who go outside during the summer are ready for this

childishwhambino

Fr, the club goes crazy when million dollar baby comes on

XXXthrowaway215XXX

yeah it’s very easy to not be sick of million dollar baby if you’re not on tiktok all day or putting on spotify’s garbage autoplay (i’m on apple so not having this issue)

Tatum-Better

White

Holditfam

Yeah redditors don’t go outside 🔥 you’re the special one who goes outside in the summer

ComaOfSouls

I didn't really grasp how overplayed or whatever the song was. I heard about it last month after learning it debuted at like number 2 or 3 in the Billboard Hot 100. One listen, had no reaction to it. About a week later, I was in a camgirl's stream and it played multiple times during that. Not totally by design, just a playlist of popular songs tailored to her or whatever, from Spotify probably. I started to have 2nd thoughts, then listened to it on my own shortly after and it all clicked for me. Now I really love the song. Read a headline yesterday that Funkmaster Flex hated the song and said anybody who enjoys it are clowns. Sheesh. All this to say that I'll check out his next single.

astroworld_

This shit gotta be a joke 🤣

Rice-And-Gravy

Nah I get where he’s coming from lol. Just last week I heard the song for the first time (other than short snippets on TikTok). I was jacking my dick to some oily gay porn when all of a sudden in the background I hear thumping bass, sure enough I message the fella and he puts me on to Tommy Richman’s discography. What a great track!

astroworld_

You had me for a bit there 😭

MessyCarpenter

😂😂😂 fr flex been a clown for a minute now

Tatum-Better

In a what's stream?

TheBigIdiotSalami

Lol, it better be good cause the Jayz Rick Ross one is literally perfect.

Beneficial_Candle_10

The hate in this thread is brain dead. When did people suddenly hate to see an underground independent artist win?

skinconcrete

popular thing bad

RyanB_

The colonizer talk is weird af too considering he’s, like, the 100000th white dude doing this kinda shit since the 90s. So long as he doesn’t pull any Post Malone type shit I just don’t really get it The overall “he’s too popular shit” I think I do get tho; folks attach a lot of their identity to music, especially being ahead of trends or listening to shit most others ain’t heard before. It is surprisingly easy to stumble across shit one likes sonically, but doesn’t provide that same factor since everyone’s heard it and bumping it don’t really make you special. Or maybe I’m just projecting cause I’d be lying if I said I never felt that either lol, even if I recognize how dumb it is.

GreatMountainBomb

It’s always fair to be suspicious of white producers putting music out like this. Ya think Tommy knows the 8 Sigils?

RyanB_

A little bit maybe? Idk there’s lots of white rappers with genuine appreciation for the genre and its culture, and a fair amount of non-white rappers clearly just hoping on cause it’s trendy. I’d say the situation of him blowing up so much is more where I’d get a bit skeptical, but yeah, a lot of the reactions seem disproportionate imo And ngl I ain’t even heard of the 8 sigils before now lol so I’m probably not the best one to ask. Tho from what I found online it looks like some witchcraft stuff? (Also, I did briefly peep your profile to try and get context on what it is, and seen you from my city. Shoutout the Edmonton connection lol)

GreatMountainBomb

Shoutout to dirt city brother 🤙. There’s something about phonk that I’m personally very apprehensive about the producers coming up in their scene. It seems in the beginning popular producers of the music were very up front about their dirty south influences but now it seems like there’s more angry white dudes making anime beats just mimicking other phonk beats.

RyanB_

Honestly never really thought of Million Dollar Baby or his upcoming one doing the rounds as phonk, but I can see it. I also definitely get what you mean about phonk in general tho, and idk shit feels distinct personally, tho 100% get where you’re coming from. In general it’s a huge shame what happened to that sound, I think a lot of the trouble started when it got picked up by drift/tuner culture. Generally cool dudes with a cool hobby imo, and a very understandable pairing, but also a very white scene otherwise largely detached from hip hop and such. Ofc the more modern ties to the sigma male misogynist shit a lot of boys now unfortunately seem to love is even worse, both for who it brings into the phonk scene and for its overall cultural perception, but idk if it would have gotten there if it hadn’t already kinda stepped out the zone to begin with. Either way tho, unfortunate that it’s now a genre filled with shitty kids, and for an unfortunate amount being a culture vulture is just the tip of the iceberg. I got a lot more opinions of phonk than I thought apparently lol

Beneficial_Candle_10

If you are suspicious, why is the first instinct to type on Reddit instead of do some basic googling about an artists management situation/background?

Beneficial_Candle_10

No I get that 100%. That’s actually a prescient take. In a way, I think my listening to him before he blew contributed to my tendency to defend him. I believe my defense, but why am I typing it out is the question. Flip side of the same coin. Even though it’s totally ego driven in such a dumb way.

ZenMon88

But i have a feeling he might be another Drake or Post Malone. Another victim to "Culture Vulture". It happens too many times already. The last one who was authentic was Mac Miller?

RyanB_

I’d be lying if I said I knew much about the dude (literally just heard about him the other day lol) but the Brent signing plus his songs I have heard does seem to signal some kind of authenticity. In terms of other white rappers, if we’re talking chart-toppers yeah idk, but there’s lots of genuine dudes out there. Action Bronson, Lord Sko, Droog, Wiki, Big Body Bes and Kojaque off the top of my head, and that’s also just NYC. Shit even dudes like BBno$ and Babytron, while definitely in that poppy/college kid kinda space, still seem to have a genuine love for the music and culture from what I seen.

TheHandSFX

The term industry plant has done terrible things to the perception of up-and-coming artists.

klip_7

Cuz it’s a good song but no one here goes outside so they wouldn’t know

Tatum-Better

Legitimately makes 0 sense lmao. We hear it, realise it's ass, then never play it again.

IJustWorkHereLoser

fucking finally

tenacious-g

It hasn’t really been that long of a rollout, time just moves at warp speed on TikTok.

Swoo413

Zoomer time

SnackeyG1

Yeah and you probably heard it 100 times on there.

tenacious-g

That’s how promotion works my guy

SnackeyG1

I just mean that’s why it feels so long. I want it!

TheHandSFX

It's been like 2 weeks fym finally 😭 If you were a Carti fan you'd have killed yourself if you think 2 weeks is a long wait

billcosbyinspace

I dislike the tiktok marketing strategy of promoting the exact same snippet of a song for weeks. Song isn’t even out yet and I’m already kind of sick of it lol

Bigmaynetallgame

Sub is full of people who don't go outside, didn't use to be this way.

OneOfTheOnly

yes it did

Bigmaynetallgame

This is my third account, been on here since 2011 probably. People in general simply socialized far more back then and as a result redditors did too. Maybe not as much as the normal joe, but far more than they do now.

OneOfTheOnly

been here since 2013, the terminally online people of this subreddit have remained terminally online there’s still cool people now but there was as many lames back then

Bigmaynetallgame

Maybe I am blinded by nostalgia ☹️

OneOfTheOnly

this sub is still good when hip hop is good, it's just been a slow few years and a lot of people's favourite artists died plus the pandemic plus the reddit lockdown, it's just been a rough time pretty much up until this year 2024 has been the best on HHH in a long time i think, so you might just be blinded - be open to this sub not being 100% dumbasses

Cazter64

Honestly I feel like it’s better now

alowester

it’s always been this way dog

tsu1028

Bro need some insight on ur w140 journey lol

Bigmaynetallgame

I bought a 1996 black on black S500 in 2019 with 71,000 miles on it. Put 30k on it since then. Stupid reliable, very easy to work on too when something isn't quite right. The sound system is better than most everything other than newer high tier luxury vehicles (make sure you get 4v preamp stereo for it, don't replace the speakers or Amp in the car). Very smooth ride and insanely quiet, also has a really nutty turn radius for how big it is. And the build quality is better than all the S class models up til the w222, and even then you could make an argument for it still being better if you get the s600.

tsu1028

Looking to get a 1994 s500… online most reviews are polar opposites. Good to hear from an actual owner. Any major repairs u had to deal with?

Bigmaynetallgame

Idk I've actually never heard anything truly bad about the w140, most car people that are actually knowledgeable in European cars agree that they are reliable. I mean you'll never have serious issues with the drive train, 90s mercedes was a totally different company. I would try and opt for 1995 or newer so you have the obd2. The 1993/1994/1995 ones are nicer though in small ways, like certain materials are even higher quality than post face-lift ones. Like the front of the headliner is leather in some of those. I actually bought a second 1995 s500 w140 and replaced the throttle body on it and sold it to my dad, his still runs good at 160k. I had to do the cam oiler tubes under the valve cover because they replaced them with plastic pieces in 1996 (wasnt super hard) but if you want a prefacelift one then you don't have to worry about that cause they are aluminum (which is what I used to fix mine). That's literally it other than it needing some suspension parts rn but also not super hard. The rear hydraulic struts usually don't fail, all the other parts are not very expensive. Mercedes never stops making parts for any of their cars so as a result part prices are super reasonable.

tsu1028

Amazing brother thank u for the details. I was targeting a post 1995 model too but the perfect ones are hard to come by. There’s a super clean 2 owner 1994 with only 98xxx km on it, I might just have to pounce on that deal.

Bigmaynetallgame

Oh yeah 98km is fucking mint, especially for those cars. The paint and interior really don't wear much at all even on high mileage unless the owner beat the shit out of it. And the pre-facelift ones are lowkey better cars in some ways, I'd definitely pounce on that deal! Good luck future w140 king 🤴 🫡

Leo_TheLurker

Such a fun style in his music I hope he keeps going

Mc_Square_Root

Colonizer funk taking over this summer 😈😈😈

registeredsexgod

He literally a white Ramirez it’s crazy lol

chickentalk_

is tommy white? boy is pretty suspect co-opting so much LA latino culture in that snippet especially outta virginia song slaps regardless but damn

I_COULD_say

Ok but Funk Flex said this guy is NOT hip hop and we're all clowns for listening

Praetorian_Panda

Fuck Funkmaster Flex people can listen to what they want

I_COULD_say

Hell yeah

The_Homie_Tito

THAT SOUND LIKE A SHOE STORE 🗣️

Spade9ja

My god instagram has been pushing his other song like crazy Annoying as fuck - I’m gonna go out of my way to not listen to this

SingingVagabond

It's not just Instagram lol I think that shits everywhere bro

HHAD98

you are fighting some extremely tough battles

braidsfox

Good for you buddy

koopa28

So brave

CanadianWithCamera

Public perception causing you to avoid something is pathetic lol. I promise you’re attention isn’t that special.

skinconcrete

some people are terrified of being perceived as liking popular things it really is odd. it’s one thing to just not like something and admit/accept that fact, but to go out of your way to avoid something simply because a lot of people like it is just weird. ik people who make it their whole personality too, like them not liking a popular thing makes them more interesting and cool when it really just makes them look like a try hard low self esteem loser lmao.

confetti_shrapnel

Million dollar baby was the best song of the year easy. Everyone bitching about us because it's overplayed. Yeah it is. And it's overplayed for a reason. Honestly looked into his shit because of that song and love his style. This snippet sounds awesome. Happy for the kid. I hope he capitalized on the momentum.

Tatum-Better

lmao imagine calling this dogshit tiktok song " best of the year " be for real

confetti_shrapnel

Don't have to imagine it. I did. It's funky, it's fun, it's rhythmic, it's smooth, it's easy to listen to but unique. Lotta good stuff has come out, but there's a reason people are overplaying it. I distinctly remember exactly what I was doing and where I was when I heard it playing in the background. I immediately got my phone out to search it. That's the first time this year I had that experience.

Praetorian_Panda

Idk if it’s the best song of the year but it’s certainly a breath of fresh air after hip hop had a rough 2023.

gabriel1313

Love me some Tommy Rich Baby. Wishing him all the success.

Unlucky_Me_

Snippet goes hard. This dude on a streak, let's see how long that last

angrytreestump

A streak of 1.05 songs? 1 whole song and 1 snippet? What’s a streak

chefanubis

Good for him.

PearSad7517

But is he goated with the sauce?

Tatum-Better

Praying he falls off

Thebola

this was a realization I learned Today that might be real, what do y'all thiink? Do artists still take multiple years to work on art? I genuinely feel like because of how record labels and customer expectations work, 99% of successful artist will only ever work for 9 months MAX on an album.. am I confused? I hope I am, that would be awesome to hear that our loved musicians are actually taking their MUCH needed time to make the timeless experiences we enjoy for decades!

DropWatcher

This sub also covers R&B and Tommy Richman got his start producing for and working with Maryland R&B singer Brent Faiyaz.

Beneficial_Candle_10

He has a wide catalogue of hip hop material that was being posted here before his R&B smash. Why tf Pharrel get posted in here? Same reason.

Sudden-Blackberry912

I don’t see how this guy is hip hop

Beneficial_Candle_10

Listen to his catalogue then. He has tons of hip hop material.

wildingflow

Could’ve sworn he was an indie artist that switched up..

Beneficial_Candle_10

He works in Indie music, hip hop, and R&B.

Sudden-Blackberry912

Can you recommend any songs? Because from what I heard it’s indie/pop

eZ_Link

Bunker/Preroll

Beneficial_Candle_10

ALLIGATOR and NETWORTH are both pretty good but his new R&B stuff is clearly better.

confetti_shrapnel

If post Malone and russ and Rea sremmurd is hip hop so is this.

iwasinpari

I liked million dollar baby, but that was all I heard for a while, this actually sounds really good and might actually be good enough to not become too overplayed

VapidRapidRabbit

Sounds just like the other song.

Crillmieste-ruH

Who?

FedoraFlameshirt

“I ain’t never rep a set” …you don’t say 😂

3_Slice

JMSN has worked so hard only to get overshadowed by a dude with a popular tiktok song. Crazy how the music game works.

santaclausexistsbro

He’s fucking garbage
