Nylander and Matthews won't sign until they're UFA. Salary cap has a good chance of going up substantially in their UFA year allowing a much larger contract for both of them on the open market. Mathews in particular structured his contract so that he could take advantage of the open market as a UFA as soon as possible. No way he doesn't go for the bag on his next deal.
IDK about Nylander, but there is most likely a GM out there willing to pre-pay Matthews to account for the salary cap increase. Someone would take that gamble probably, especially if they can get a good deal done.
